This video is so helpful for a young technician who has not done too much diagnostics on his own. The way you explain your logic while working through the scan tool is great. Got my sub and views.
Love how real world the videos are, "I gotta get going, this lady is going to be here soon" Watch the videos each time a new one comes out and have picked up some many tips and a few "ah ha" moments in my own troubleshooting.
At the beginning of the video when I heard the symptoms, I guessed it was likely a wheel speed sensor and I was right. I feel so accomplished, lol. Thanks for another great video PawPaw!
First, thanks for using and demonstrating the hobo freight diagnostic tool, good to see a pro use it for us DIY folks to see. Second, I wonder if the boyfriend damaged a couple wires internally when taking off the caliper, who knows 🤷🏽 also, I bet honda shuts off the circuit to protect the rest of the system but i agree they should provide more information. Anyway, love watching you fix stuff!
You Eric, in my opinion, are an awesome mechanic. Common sense and experience speak volumes. Humble and not so pride ridden that you can't admit mistakes made. Honorable quality, very rare in today's world. Applause is given in droves.
Had wheel locks on my Prius (which I didn't want, but was a "feature" from the dealer. I got rid of them after a safety inspection when the key didn't come back from the mechanic. When I discovered the missing key, I went back to the service station, they had two full buckets of wheel locks which they let me sort through. None of their wayward locks fit my car, so the service manager spun the locking wheel lug nuts off with an impact. I ordered a set of non-lolcking replacements and lived happily ever after.
@@shannonharris That is some crazy "What was she wearing" logic. No detective or police officer is going to ask about what kind of lug nuts you had, It's irrelevant. Also a wheel thief would be equipped with a cordless Impact that defeats any locking lug nut.
That’s really the best solution. People think it’ll stop their wheels getting stolen. Which already isn’t really a big problem. Then add in you can buy kits that cover nearly all the wheel lock “keys”. The extra low level of security isn’t worth the hassle and potential problems of having a wheel locked on when you need to take it off.

Your humor alone brings me back to your channel. Most of the time, I don't have a clue of what the hell you're talking about or a clue of what you're doing, but I enjoy to seeing/hearing you do your magic. This being said, I do learn the right way to do things, I mean, if I ever had the need to understand the process of fixing the xyz problem on a car, at least I could follow the explanation of the mechanic working on my car. Long story short, I love your attitude, young man. Gives me confidence to argue some deep diagnose sh*t I've learned here with my mechanic.. hihi Cheers.
I learned a similar lesson on a 2013 Ford Fiesta. Ohm check showed me the sensor was ok, 12v check failed but I hadnt realized the circuit was shut down. I cleared codes for fun and 12v was there. Come to find out it was a problem with the physical bearing which is what the sensor reads on those. Took me a couple hours but trust your gut is the lesson.

When it comes to suspected brake problems I'd never take out on the road with making sure they're going to work. There's a line from an old commercial. "A car that won't start is not a problem, a car that won't stop is a BIG problem."
Worked tire shop in the mid 90's, I swear seemed like ever other car had a wheel lock on it. Don't forget the locking hub caps too. And half of those owners had no clue were the stupid thing was, plenty of time we did the old hammer on a socket and buzz it off.
Tire valve stem caps work great to protect sensor holes when cleaning rust , push the cap in with the stem unthread from cap, clean rust rethread the stem in the cap and then pull the cap back out, brake clean wont hurt the cap.

I came to the comments specifically to see whether I was the only one wondering. I'm betting she said something like, " I just want to get rid of the lights so I can dump this car."
I watched a series of shows from the UK, of a garage that maintained cop cars. The one mechanic used a handheld tool, that I have never seen before. It tested brake fluid, by burning it.
Waste of time, if the fluid is 2-3 years old it's due based on moisture content alone. Brake fluid is extremely hygroscopic, only takes a few minutes for an open bottle to be contaminated. That's why you should always throw excess away.
How funny😅 the modest mechanic making light of all the complications "will put this ear plug in here to keep the rust out from the rusty bearing😂 yes I understand your mindset I would do the same thing being from the Midwest at one time dealing with the rust belt after 52 plus years of doing this you get massive thumbs up for me 👍👍👍👍 I seen enough of your videos to know that you understand the automobiles and what you're dealing with so when you're done with that one it will be time to🎉🎉🎉

Great job and fantastic diagnosing
I was hypnotized by the Little Tree swaying back and forth....now I am a slave to Eric's voice.
SMACKS @joeythedime1838 WAKE UP!
You got cars to fix!
📸🤨
The shops I worked for trained the counter girl to always ask for the wheel lock be handed to her. That way it was the owner who tore their car apart to find it. Saved us literally hours each day of hunting.
When Eric says "These older Hondoos..." I think of a mid 90s Civic. I must be getting old.
Your mind reverts back to the 90's because that was the last time vehicles were actually reliable and society wasn't batsh*t crazy.
Was thinking the same 😂
Old Honda's..... And it's got traction control, stability control, and an electric parking brake.... Feels odd calling that stuff old!
You young whipper snapper. I remember working on an eighties Civic in the mid nineties, when it was already an "old hondoo" and a class mates grand moms car.
@@volvo09 I'm only barely into my 30's and I was a dealership lube monkey when they Were actually new.
Oh God.... How does this happen
Lov your easy to follow explanations along the process! Lots of little other things not explained in the repair manuals!
"Someone at Wilberts will thank me for that"🤣
The boyfriend probably did the brakes 18 months ago - woman speak translates that to "he just did them....". He's going to be blamed for any dash warning lights for the next fifteen years.
Agreed! My ex-wife blamed me for issues associated with vehicles she owned AFTER our divorce claiming (to my sons it was indeed MY fault because): She would have never purchased these POSes if I was around to maintain her vehicle. Clarification: She divorced me, but everything was still all MY fault!
@@repentnow1720 I hear you ! 🙂
I really never "listen" to any female! They live in a different world than what I have carved out for myself over the 72 years I've been developing my "systems!"
@repentnow1720 lol.... My mom still blames my dead Dad for house issues on a house he built 34 years ago. "Well the floor is rotting out cuz your Dad used the cheapest shit he could find." Meanwhile, she waters all her plants inside and absolutely soaks the floor with water from the plants draining or her spilling it everywhere. The house is shit cuz she hasn't maintained it properly. The house was absolutely beautiful and perfect when my dad built it. SMH.

Thanks Mr. O! Waited all weekend. 🎊 🎉. PS. It was all in the wrist getting that sensor out!
Your stills amaze me every time, I am learning a lot from you. Thank you Eric !
You're a good man, Mr. O, making things right once again.
Truly a pleasure to be over your shoulder. Thank you very much.
I put my wheel lock in the cup holder and didn't get it back. No hug for that mechanic.
Busy day in the shop and you still took the time to make a video.
Thanks man!
He may not be the best mechanic, but at least the boyfriend didn't leave the parts on the shelf for months and months, eh Mrs O?
Sick burn!!! Roasted Eric anyone???
Too soon, too soon.
@@MeFreeBee ouch ! 🤕
WOW......
right in the feels.... 😢
Maybe....maybe not.
You Eric, in my opinion, are an awesome mechanic. Common sense and experience speak volumes. Humble and not so pride ridden that you can't admit mistakes made. Honorable quality, very rare in today's world. Applause is given in droves.
Maybe it’s the pain meds I’m on from a medical procedure I had the other day, but I love your videos, god bless you Eric O!
Thanks!
Nice test drive, great to see Avoca again. Some times I miss the place
Now I know why the train honks so much😂😂 thanks.
It reminded me of the old TV series Casey Jones you have got to be old to remember that one.
Honk if you love Jesus. Text while you drive if you want to meet him.😁
Had wheel locks on my Prius (which I didn't want, but was a "feature" from the dealer.
Don't call the police if any of your wheels are stolen, they'll laugh at you! 😂😂😂
@@shannonharris That is some crazy "What was she wearing" logic. No detective or police officer is going to ask about what kind of lug nuts you had, It's irrelevant. Also a wheel thief would be equipped with a cordless Impact that defeats any locking lug nut.
@@shannonharristhey’d steal the car before they stole the alloys now a days lockers are pointless
Send McGard a pic.with it's approximate age and if it came in oe packaging.
Oh boy! Are we gonna get another wheel bearing video? As the official bearing aficionado of this channel, I do love me some bearing videos.

Happy to help! 😄
First time viewer.
I'm a 50 year old woman who knows nothing about cars. I found this video very entertaining & watched it through.
Legend has it Mrs. O is still ridin Eric to fix her Hondo. 😂
No no, all been done. It was great!
There's so much to me learned from this man, thanks for sharing your knowledge and wisdom.
Much respect to that DeWalt 3/8 impact. So Many no mercy reversies😂
Thank you, Eric, for your channel. I've been viewing your videos for five years now and have learned the following, make a plan, work the plan, and sometimes you have to go slow to go fast. Oh sugar, mother lover, ding dong, and my favorite, things are about to get serious now.
I love harbor freight! I will definitely check out the scan tool!
Hammered with work is every tradesman's dream! As long as you're healthy, make it rain!
Good Video as always Eric O on the wheel speed sensor diag and replacement 33:44 @South Main Auto Repair LLC
"these older Honda take for-ever" I just scanned a new to me 2001 Acura RL today and thought something was broken with how slow the scan was on my Autel. I guess not!
i see how much specific TLC you put into this kinda work, and i love it. it doesnt seem like shops near me have this attention to detail and care, so im curious if your style of work (things done right) runs customers much more?
love what you do and how you get things done. you've got integrity, homie.
Sometimes I'll connect the right to the left and vice versa see if the code follows the sensor or wiring. Just ordered those brake files.
You claim to be not well-educated, but you've taught me a lot about diagnostic work. I don't have the tools that you do, but it translates nonetheless. So, thank you!
The train horn reminded me of an apartment I once had. It was about 30 feet from the tracks. And I had a fast freight almost every night. He'd lay on the horn till he passed my place. My street was the last that had a crossing. And remember you were the boyfriend once.
The most shocking thing was an aftermarket sensor worked.
.451 Mega-Ohms...I looked up and it was 4:51pm. Perfect.
I got one off a spare tire of one of my vehicles by heating it with a propane torch and locking vice grips on it.
Tire valve stem caps work great to protect sensor holes when cleaning rust , push the cap in with the stem unthread from cap, clean rust rethread the stem in the cap and then pull the cap back out, brake clean wont hurt the cap.
"The rust, the crust and the beer." If Johnny Cash was your South Main Auto mechanic...

Great video as always Mr O 👍👍
Didn't hear the lawnmower guy today, but just when I started watching my neighbour started mowing his grass. Just can't get away from it, lol.

My lawn mowers Baa ( Have Sheep )
The next door neighbours along use a petrol mower .... occasionally ( when the sheep can't keep up with eating the grass on the front lawn )
Ride on mower ( not a sheep ) is in the shed and I haven't used it in months .
In the dark, go drive some green colored rebar 4 feet down and about 4 inches up, wait for the sudden knock and sure stop and enjoy the quiet for a few days! 😂😂
Are you sure he's not just saying, "hello Eric." 😁🤣
I have no idea why, but from the moment I saw the street as you started up the car to check the idiot lights, I got big upstate ny vibes lol. I got halfway through the video before I checked the channel description, and yep you certainly are in western upstate!
And what about the wheel bearing, are we going to see that on another episode, or did you make the call to not show us another wheel bearing. Love the content.
I came to the comments specifically to see whether I was the only one wondering. I'm betting she said something like, " I just want to get rid of the lights so I can dump this car."
Great job! A true professional finding a small needle in a large haystack 👍 priceless
I watched a series of shows from the UK, of a garage that maintained cop cars. The one mechanic used a handheld tool, that I have never seen before. It tested brake fluid, by burning it.
It tests the boiling point of the brake fluid, each fluid has a specific point according to the DOT (DOT3, DOT4, DOT5...)
Waste of time, if the fluid is 2-3 years old it's due based on moisture content alone. Brake fluid is extremely hygroscopic, only takes a few minutes for an open bottle to be contaminated. That's why you should always throw excess away.
How funny😅 the modest mechanic making light of all the complications "will put this ear plug in here to keep the rust out from the rusty bearing😂 yes I understand your mindset I would do the same thing being from the Midwest at one time dealing with the rust belt after 52 plus years of doing this you get massive thumbs up for me 👍👍👍👍 I seen enough of your videos to know that you understand the automobiles and what you're dealing with so when you're done with that one it will be time to🎉🎉🎉
Getting hammered by cars..means you know what you’re doing and you fix stuff right. It’s what you do👍🏻
Another excellent video. It’s just too bad that so much of this stuff can only be learned the hard way, by doing and figuring it out yourself - unless you have TH-cam access.
Thanks for spreading your knowledge around.
Love the Little Trees air freshener. "There's one in every car."
Funny as F*. I love the side comments and double entendres. This one had more than usual. Thanks for the entertainment after a long day, Eric.
Meemaw’s wisdom never ceases to amaze me.
Glad you explained the horn thing, I started laughing when it was continously going, almost sounded like he was watching you speak , then parrrrrp
He can learn to fix them right. I like the fact that he tried. He’s a keeper. He was just trying to save her money.
ABSOLUTELY, BUT HE SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST WATCHED A TH-cam VIDEO FIRST. WE ALL STARTED SOMEWHERE, FOR ME, IT WAS SHEER NECESSITY. ASK EVERYBODY YOU KNOW HOW TO DO IT, THEN DO THE BEST YOU CAN, EVENTUALLY, YOU GET PRETTY GOOD AT BEING A SHADE TREE MECHANIC. SOMETIMES YOU FO ON TO BECOME A REAL MECHANIC AS I DID. I WENT TO LINCOLN TECHNICAL INSTITUTE AND GOT A FANTASTIC EDUCATION, THEN WENT ON TO OWN MY OWN SMALL BUSINESS OUT OF MY GARAGE. BUT BRAKES ARE NOTHING TO PLAY WITH. IT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LIFE AND DEATH IF YOU GET IT WRONG. 😊❤️
Nicely done! Great examples of "The right tool for the right job."
“Somebody at Wilbur’s will thank me for that.” Perfect.
Great work. Reminds me of when I fixed my late wife’s brakes just before she passed away…
Ever since I drove my car into the ground with every warning lamp on and my boyfriend fixed the grinding brakes I have all these problems...your boyfriend needs a new girl for sure.
Yesterday, I saw a news story where a woman had her AWD car towed by the city and they didn't use a flatbed. She's claiming that it has caused over $10000 in damage according to the dealership. They quickly showed the bill and I was able to pause it. The bill included items like needing a new sun visor, starter, battery, windshield wipers and security system.
I know I've ask this before, but I'm from the deep south and I lived hanging around my dad. He could fix anything on a car. On his days off, he'd have a a fee cars from folks that we'd fix...and he called it "panther p!$$". Word gets around. I wonder where the phrase comes from? You have great videos. My wife is from Chenago Valley. Around Binghamton. Beautiful country up there.
" Spraying and Praying " isn't just for machine guns !
All car mechanics should be like you! Such a delight to watch
Rule number 1, never work on your girlfriend's car.
Sorry , but that's a dumb rule . I'm sure you meant to say , don't work on anything if you don't know how
moreso if you wife knows her
@@chrisbeall9098 , For sure!
I made her my wife 30 years ago, so i didn't have to.
Work on the wife's car, never the girlfriend's. A proper girlfriend services you so you can have a happy life at home.
Seen a few of your videos - i like how well you diagnose things-& your positive attitude
