The energy SRV put into his performing was huge. And he played brutally but with precision. Blues should be played this way. He reminds me to another largely missed player: Gary Moore. The year Steve died, both bluesmen were going to perform together 😢
I know music. I know guitarists. Every time I listen to a SRV song, it’s like the first time. I can’t comprehend how any human can play like SRV. He is from another planet. He literally brings tears to my eyes he is so fucking righteous. Just listened to Superstition - I’m speechless.
Awesome memory! I was born in 79 and my one uncle turned me on to him when I was a teen and I loved his music soon as I heard it. Thanks for sharing that, I bet that was really cool to see him in person
Man, I miss SRV so much! I'm a drummer but a musician and I can tell he's at his prime here just by the way he plays. So flaccid, natural, and technically brilliant. Just a monster at this time and no telling how far he would have gone with his god-given talent. Not only that but at this show he couldn't have a better band backing him up and, especially the keyboardist, and he hadn't been with him the whole time. Kudos and shout out to my man Mr. Chris Layton. The best blues rock drummer with the most awesome groove ever.
Agreed. Not such a big fan of Chris Layton though. To me he's a little repetitive and boring. But I don't know if that's the way Stevie wanted it or what. @@DanPolett Those are some great choice drummers Dan, but not one of them is a true blues drummer. Layton played what the music called for and it had nothing to do with what SRV wanted. You really think SRV was forced and have to settle playing with any musician? No man, I don't think so. It doesn't work that way...lol
@@JoseMTamez Forced?? No, I said that perhaps Stevie being that it is his band and he is obviously the star, "might" have had some say in the way his drummer played for each particular song. AS far as being a "true" blues drummer anyone who could and was invited to play with Johnny Winter HAD TO HAVE BEEN AN INCREDIBLE BLUES DRUMMER, because Johnny Winter is arguably the greatest blues guitarist ever. So, Bobby Caldwell is one of the best drummers(Blues or otherwise) to have ever lived and there is no comparison that can be made with Chris Layton. Good day!

Every time I think about the fact that I caught 3 shows, I feel like the luckiest man alive. SRV and Double Trouble, what a musical show piece.

Imagine what it was like living on his street. Neighbors sat with lawn chairs and drinks while they rehearsed.
