Overall the RED takes the wins, but the fact the iPhone can even compete slightly is gnarly. Steven Spielberg once said: "You shouldn't dream your film, you should make it", if you couldn't before now you can.
Slightly? thats a bit of an understatement. It can compete, even though a RED is best for cinematic, the iPhone sure could compete and in some situations it was even better. With a professional rig, accessories and post work, you can make great cinematic shots with it. and still, its just a phone with small lens, small sensor.
Can't wait to see this. LOVE RED cameras - the RED Komodo is one of my absolute favourites :) Just finished watching the new mountain biking film on Red Bull TV and it was shot on RED cameras :) :) :)
Great video! Quick tip: When you jump for vertical height, try to stop rather than continuing to move forward. Stop and swing your arms back and then upwards with your body as you jump up. This way your height isn't stolen by the horizontal momentum.
I like a lot of the iPhone shots. And the fact that it's even competitive with high-end cameras is incredible for something you stash in your back pocket.
It costs $2,000 for the 1 TB iPhone so it makes sense. And if you sharpen the photos after in the camera app it’s looks even more better than the professional cameras. Still looks better default as well.
I have always been an android user, recently switched to iphone for video production, I still prefer android but the footage I get from the iphone is unbeatable even with my camera, it's incredible that you can pull a device from your pocket and capture that level of quality video with stabilization and dynamic range.

It's a proof that all you need is an good idea and creativity. Technicality doesn't matter that much anymore. We already have cheap technology on our hands.
@@ItsTomRich It looked like and I was not sure about it, thanks for letting me know, do you think the color can be a little bit better for iPhone after color grading, ofc it can't achieve the color profile of red though
@@rethinkwithroy The Komodo should not use a color profile in the camera. It uses RAW. The iPhone can use a nice log footage. That log footage can then in the editing software be converted to a wider color space. Then you color grade and after that you transform it into something like Rec 709. So, yes, you can color grade the iPhone footage. Actualy, if you would shoot in log, it should be at least converted into Rec 709 because otherwise it will look very dull and gray.

the iphone slowmo image is better, but the compression and bokeh of the lens on the red helps it look professional. use a mirrorless camera with better slowmo would wipe the red and iphone. red is overrated, what saves it is the high dynamic range.
Red is not overrated. You have to get a Sony a9iii to get a global shutter which is more expensive than the red, and the red has better colours and compression format than the Sony
I know nothing about photography 🙂↕️ great video. I just bought the iPhone 16pro and it’s great to see its capabilities and what people who have better equipment have to say!
The title said everything to me. It mentions the iPhone including the build and version. While we only mention the brand RED and what the camera roughly costs. If we would turn that around, you would get a title like "Komodo 6K vs. Apple | $1000 Mobile Phone. But because this video is targeted towards iPhone users who want to believe their new mobile phone can somehow be compared to a cinema camera the title is formulated the way it is. The rest of the video serves the same purpose. The Komodo footage is cropped to make it look bad. Just shoot at the maximum what both cameras can do and then compare the footage. Don't forget to include some low light shots. Not saying that the iPhone does not have a decent camera for a phone but it can't be compared to a real cinema camera.
Thanks for the comparison. Would have loved if you put an Vari ND filter on that iphone tho for the tests ! Also, why doesn't apple allow LOG in cinematic mode !?

People don’t want to admit it, but camera picture quality has leveled out. The flaw with the the iPhone is bokeh, but on the other cameras I mentioned, bokeh isn’t an issue.
would have been good to compare the phone with a lens on the Komodo that didn't have so much chromatic aberration. The depth of field on the Komodo was definitely nice, the lens was very soft though.
Im starting out in real estate and i cant afford a camera for real estate photography, and videos, which camera would you recommend iPhone 16 pro max or i wait for s25ultra .i really love your content
both phones will do what you need, I’d honestly suggest spending less though on a camera. Go for a canon EOS R second hand you’ll get one cheaper than a flagship phone and an wide angle lens
The iPhone is slightly sharper in most of the shots. Overall, the color is often better. As someone who shot Tv commercials way back in the 1970s, I can tell you that the weight of the rig might help for a short time when beginning a shoot. It quickly becomes tiring and hand arm shake takes over. If a higher quality version of the codec on the iPhone was used, there would have been a difference. The past couple of iPhones have the capability of looking very cinematic if handled properly. You really need a tiny external SSD to shoot the higher quality codec. But that’s not really a big problem. I’m finding the 16 Pro Max that its a slightly bit better than the 15 Pro Max. The main problem is, obviously, that the smaller chip has a lot more depth of field. But the chips inside keep getting larger and the main camera sensor is now almost a 1” sensor. There are a few pretty good lenses for smartphones and each generation gets better. If somehow Apple made it possible to remove the lens and replace it with full lenses, it would be amazing.
nah the 10k camera is better in everyshot it has way more detail and less noise . the sharpening your talking about maybe just the artificial sharpening by iphone but its not as accurate and detailed as the look on the 10k camera . but overall that difference isnt worth 10k unless its for movie production the iphone is still more worth it
@@abz7800 no, it’s not. We’ve seen comparisons last year between the 15 Pro Max and a $100,000 camera with professional film makers who actually know how to do post properly and most of the shots they did even they said it was almost impossible to see the difference of depth of field was balanced between the two. I agree from my own testing over some time. Most of the differences we’re seeing here is that they didn’t use the best codec von the iPhone and they did t match depth of field. Obviously the phone is going to be different in that and you can immediately tell which is which because of it. The Komodo has a reputation of being difficult to balance in post, and its dynamic range is off.
It's not even close when you factor in flexibility. With the iPhone, you only have one "good" focal length. You can't control the bokeh, nor can you smoothly adjust focus by changing the aperture. The quality drops significantly in low light, and flare remains an issue with smartphone lenses. Additionally, you don't have much flexibility in color grading. Sure, with the iPhone, you can shoot impressive-looking videos, but you sacrifice a lot of flexibility. You can't film everything the way you'd like with the iPhone.

I'd still choose that RED camera, it's just so much better in terms of the tue to life colours.
not saying the iphone is bad in this regards, it's quite the opposite, but you said it yourself Tom, the iPhone just wants to computationally balance everything, most especially exposure levels
I appreciate the time you put into this, but you didn't have to. 😇
Thanks for watching!
This is kinda like watching how a Bugatti and a ford Taurus can both park reasonably well.
Don't forget the test where they drive both 50 mph in a straight line.
🤣🤣🤣
Is it true that the new iPhones are bugged?
How so?
@@ItsTomRich I watched videos where it is said that the battery drops very quickly in an unused state.
Yeah there it goes the first in many IPhone vs Stuff we know it wouldn’t beat videos😂 why are people making this vids every year? I mean come on make some relevant an stunning with the iPhone no more clickbait.

No differences between plus and normal. People have done tests with the 16 🙏
supporting casetify? as a photographer yourself? guess integrity goes out the window when you can make a quick buck.
