I’m forty as well. I’ve had three children and am keto/carnivore because…nuts. Anyway, I’m curious. Have you asked yourself why this “ideal weight” matters to you? Is there an unconscious belief hidden behind that goal? Are you not worthy of a proposal without a lower number on the scale? Are you not worthy of your own approval without that lower number? In my twenties and thirties I could reach those ideal numbers with “will power”, but I was always thinking about food and my hormones were a mess. I had acne, drank coffee like a junkie, and was a “mean mom”. I developed disordered eating which started with extreme restriction and ended with binging and purging. To recover/heal in my mid thirties I had to allow my body to gain, overshoot, and then level out where it wanted to be. I’m so much healthier now than I’ve ever been, but the number on the scale does not have me looking like a lean body builder. That’s okay. I’m a not mean mom anyone and I don’t yo-yo and feel shame constantly. So what does that lower number promise you? Is it true? Does this non-committed boyfriend play a role? I can’t imagine that it helps.

I'm in my forties, ok almost 50 and so much like you, but I had to give up the "ideal" weight number. I am so rigid with myself, and if I don't, I binge eat too. Also, it seems like if I have something to achieve, I tend to sabotage myself.....why? Uff, life is hard!!!

Kelly Hogan gained over 20 lbs the first year of carnivore. She stuck with it because of the healing she experienced and then the weight fell off for good.
    Thanks for the update!🎉

    • @ErinCRN

So true! And she only lost the remainder of weight she wanted to lose (something like 30 pounds) when she increased her steps every day! She gets like 30K steps a day! I’ve hiked 14’ers that are 11-14 miles long and only get 20K steps! That walking pad she has indoors is key I think! I want one.

Kelly doesn’t eat that much and walks a lot… coming from a binge eating background.. upping my walks to 3 hours and fasting caused me to be hungry after being on carnivore for 3 years now Im trying to get back mentally to be carnivore and ok with a little extra weight…. It’s such a roller coaster and counting calories has been an eye opener as the labels and apps are always off… all the ribeyes I get from the butcher are different. Isn’t the point of carnivore to be simple 😂

    • @ErinCRN
      @ErinCRN 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

@@SheriMorgan-l8i Kelly Hogan eats way more than I can eat. She eats like 4 hamburgers in one sitting. I can only eat two. She’s also two inches taller than me. I also have way more muscle mass than her and lifts weights heavy and play tennis. My point being, there are lots of variables. We all try to compare ourselves to others but we need to just be only looking at ourselves. But 30K steps a day is boarding on outrageous kinda. That’s a lot! Overkill.

    • @ErinCRN
      @ErinCRN 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

@@marneangel7 I think she looks too thin as well. She is 5’9” though. She has extra height to spread that weight across. She and I weigh the same but she’s two inches taller and I have way more muscle mass than her. I feel my best when I’m doing all the things-walking about 12-15K steps a day, weight lifting, and playing tennis. She needs to addd some muscle to her frame and walk less I think. She’d look more balanced. I think that Keto influencer Maria Emmerich looks downright malnourished and cachexic with sarcopenia.

It sounds like you need to go 90 days Lion Diet. Over and over I heard "I'm just adding this in, or that in". In my opinion, you still have not healed. I also see your husband and his mother being a problem when it comes to supporting you. Quit everything other than beef water and salt for 90 days. Eat as much as you want as well. I know if I eat bacon, I don't have that stop eating feel and will eat it all up. Doesn't matter how much bacon there is on the plate, I will eat finish the bacon, but it's not that way with fatty beef. I'm 6 months in and do not have those cravings anymore but I went quite a while Lion Diet only.

Thank you for sharing so authentically! I can so relate to you. I’m 48 and have been a compulsive binge eater since about 13. Carnivore (mostly) for a couple of years helped overcome that but like you I was slowly gaining weight. The only thing that has helped me to get the weight gain under control is fasting 20:4 for 5-6 days a week, and really feasting on carnivore foods that I love during my eating window. I have found doing this I can eat until I’m completely satisfied, not having to track macros or calories, and not feeling restricted because I can eat as much as I feel like I ‘need’ during my eating window. I pray for you that you will find what works for you, we’re all so different ❤

Oh my dog..I've found my tribe! I've almost quit carnivore for good several times, b/c I got off on the wrong foot for the same reason as you! I started out wanting to loose a little around the belly on my 5'5". I am lean - 5'5" from 98-100 lbs, ideal with an eating disorder history - binging etc. And I'm sorry - I can binge on meat just as easily as any carbs! So, to hear I could eat as much as I wanted , and "calories don't matter' sounded wonderful, and I did. What a shock, I gained weight.. I stopped going on the scale after 7 lbs. I had less energy , and now was depressed about the weight gain.
Bottom line, of course calories matter. I get they are trying to say it is a bit more nuanced; but if you take in more energy than you need, it gets stored - doesn't matter if it is from fat, protein or carbs. Those without a REAL history of binge eating, like large muscular professional athlete males, don't understand. It's about the stress relief gained through eating/filling up that void.. it's a behavior. True bingers know we can (and will binge on whatever is available if needed). Now , I'm struggling to lose this weight , which is proving harder than ever before. I have not weighed this much in decades.
Right now, my experience has not been positive. I think if I had better advice going in, I might have had better results. I always try to be careful with online advice.. but it's hard sometimes.

I can not help but think that the medication you were on did some damage to your body. I had an illness that lasted for over 3.5 years, could not hardly eat and lost 45 pounds. To clarify how bad that is I was probably only 5 to 10 over weight to start with. I went carnivore to stop putting poison in my body and get some strength back. It is working good a year into carnivore. My long winded point is that it was a very slow recovery and still recovering from all that damage that was done to my body. So if you are not losing the weight you want to right now I urge you to stay as strict carnivore as you can and not go down the side paths. This may take longer than you would like but I truly believe that carnivore will heal most of the damage that was done to you and then you will see better weight loss results. Worse case is that damage done to you was too much and will not heal but carnivore is still your best chance at the healthiest life moving forward. Just my thoughts, thanks for sharing so openly. Wish you the best of luck moving forward and will add you in my prayers.

I am happy for you, and your new plan! This is what has worked for me. Lots of overlap with what you are doing; but some variances. I've lost 43 pounds (5'5; 54 years old; I've gone from 165-122 since 2/20/23):
Mainly beef; some eggs. A little pork (bacon) if I'm getting bored, or craving it. I can go 3-4 weeks without; and then make a whole pack of bacon and eat it over 2-3 days. It doesn't seem to impact me too much-but it's so yummy that I could/would probably overeat if it became a daily thing.
I have coffee in the am; split a chocolate salt LMNT between my 2 big cups.
LOTS of sun. As much as my schedule and the weather allows. I used to burn. I don't anymore; now that I don't consume seed oils.
I don't count calories. I eat until I'm satisfied to bordering full (not stuffed.)
I don't count steps; but I do walk every day; and my job is reasonably active.
I no longer crave sweets. Cheese is a rare treat which I indulge in.
I sleep the best that I ever had in my life.

The only way I found to lose weight is One Meal A Day (OMAD). The trick to losing weight is intermittent fasting. It takes about 4 hours for your body to process a full meal, while it's processing that meal it's in fat storing mode. You have to stay in fat burning mode, fasting, as much as possible. If you eat multiple meals a day you are stopping your body from burning fat. I keep 4% cottage cheese in my fridge just in case I can't make it to meal time. I eat a few spoonful's, enough to hold me over, until dinner.
If Matt won't propose to you I will. Jenn, will you marry me?

I was strict carnivore for 2 years. I never lost weight and probably gained some. Terrified to get on the scale. It didn't help my psoriasis either, in fact made it a little worse. The only benefit was thicker hair. I tried all the different tweaks and none of it worked. My energy was super low. I finally quit. This way of eating was supposed to give me food freedom, simplicity and a healthy weight. It just didn't work. My energy was so low I couldn't even exercise anymore. I finally went back to a whole foods balanced diet with carbs. I feel better and I can exercise now and I'm probably eating fewer calories because I feel full after eating now. I'm so tired of having to obsess over food and exercise. It's not healthy.

The one thing that helped me get past the binge eating after restricting myself for long periods of time is getting myself to remember that I can have whatever I want if I really want it. I never acted on it because part of the problem with binging is because in the back of our mind we feel like we have to eat it all now because when we start restricting again it will be off limits. So we kind of panic and irrationally convince ourselves” get it all now because we won’t be able to have it again!” 😳. It’s a retraining of your thoughts. It won’t happen over night but the longer you can have that kind of mentality, “ Oh can have that anytime I want, I just don’t want it” the more you will believe it. At some point it will become second nature.

Eat all you want but make it your meal. If you was eating 3 -4000 calories a day and only gaining a little weight what about 2500 calories a day with it being 2 or 3 meals? 1800 seems too restrictive. You look tall. Ha! Agree about the word "journey." It's an accurate word but overused to the point of cringe by some people.
I'm so glad you're doing this series. I started carnivore over 7 months ago (in October 2023) and haven't experienced the magic that so many others report. I lost a little weight -- maybe 10-20 lbs -- early on but then it stopped and I go up and down the same few pounds for five months. I get frustrated and do little cheats during dinner out with the family once a week or so, and am getting more sloppy because it's like what's the point? It isn't working anyway!
I stopped watching your videos for a few months because I thought you were reporting success and I didn't want to be annoyed at yet another carnivore reporting magical weight loss while still it eluded me. Sorry for my judgement.
I admire your tenacity and commitment to success. You are inspiring me to tighten up my game. Sorry I don't have any magic solutions but know you will figure it out. Meanwhile, you're still very beautiful and I hope you're appreciating the skin you're in now.

What I wander is if you may be starting to big 🤔 Why not start with not gaining weight rather than loosing weight, then when your clear on what maintenance is for you attempt to loose from there. If you cant stick to maintenance without going off plan then your focus perhaps needs to shift to healing the binging mindset rather than the physical. X

Hi Jen, thanks for your videos, really helpful as always. Today you really made something click for me - I was constantly dieting as a young teen and on and off throughout my adult life. I definitely created a terrible relationship with food, addiction and issues with sweet tastes, dopamine hit, boredom eating, constantly grazing etc.
I get everything you've said and also struggle to reach my target weight, only loosing a little after 36 hour fasts but gain back weight afterwards.
I've gone semi carnivore and am learning what foods to completely avoid, trigger foods as well as foods that make me puffy or sluggish and tired. Good levels of meat /chicken/eggs in every meal really helps stabilise blood sugars, curb cravings, keep me satiated. A mostly carnivore diet would be my ideal, but I still enjoy rice, a little fruit and veg, lots of seasoning, herbs and spices. I think the truth is these foods are me hanging on to carbohydrate addiction.
Good luck getting to your target weight, I'm here in the UK doing the same. Let's get there! Zoe x

I feel like you just don’t really believe in yourself to be honest. Just fast?! What’s the problem? You want to loose weight and eat 3 meals a day ?? How is that supposed to work. Sorry to say it like this. Fasting is EASY. Especially on carnivore. Plus it is something you can work your way up to. If you can’t do a water fast do a fat fast. It’s almost as effective ! you can do this 💪🏻 I dropped 16kg in 8 months. BMI of 22 now. the fastest way for results is alternate day fasting on carnivore and eating AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE in one meal on eating days every 48 hrs. Cortisol - Elevated cortisol levels can cause food cravings, especially for sweet, fatty, and salty foods. Under stress, you are more likely to order a milkshake with fries than you are a balanced meal. Leptin - Leptin is the satiety hormone and is the main hormone that tells you when it is time to stop eating.

Excellent video. I love your stuff cuz you're so straightforward. I'm a binge eater too and you can binge on carnivore foods just like you can binge on any foods. I basically have to be black and white about it. But I hear what you're saying because when I'm bored, and that's essentially when this happens, I will add a carnivore food to a meal I've already eaten. I know I'm full. It's about boredom. Also, I totally understand from an educated point of view that calories in calories out is not a thing. According to scientists the body can't even use calories like they are defined. But certainly if you want to use them as a guideline and you know where you start running into trouble, I don't see any harm in that. However, I guarantee you that if you eat a thousand calories of junk food which are addictive, and you eat a thousand calories of meat and eggs, your body's going to use that food very differently. To that degree, calories are misleading. Your body just plain uses protein and fat much differently than it uses the standard American diet. I'm not saying this works for everybody. I really appreciate Dr Shawn Baker, who has not joined the cult of people who say you have to do it exactly the way we do it or it isn't going to work. You know, take your carnival card away. People who say moderate and eat a little of everything don't understand addiction. Some of us just can't do that and we have to be honest with ourselves about it. My daughter was here this weekend. I made sweet rolls for a brunch I had and there were other foods that I had to avoid. Frankly, it didn't bother me at all, but I did find myself, as you said you did, Lisa, eating an extra piece of breakfast casserole, which was totally carnivore, but still too much. Anyway, I'm rambling. Keep up the good work. I hope this works for you. By the way, I have to take the electrolytes or I get muscle cramps. Usually takes me two packets a day, but I've worn a glucose monitor and my sugar doesn't go up with stevia. Lucked out there. It also does not cause cravings. So I see no reason to give it up. And I do so love my butter coffee in the morning. Now if I could just get myself to walk and lift! By the way I'm 77 years old, with Sterling blood tests and no prescriptions.
I also wondered what your fat protein ratio is because I found that if I ate a little more fat, I was much more sociated than if I ate higher protein.

Honestly, that's how I felt at first too. And then I came to my senses and realized that everything I buy on amazon is from china too

I love your video and really appreciate everything you share and your honesty. I would worry about your future MIL once you have kids, offering them sugar and carbs.
Overall you're doing great! Cheering you on 🎉
