    Yeah, I like how this one is more square shaped rather than Triangle shaped. It gives you way more usable space. I was wondering why ford shaped theirs the way they did. I thought it was because of the wheel wells, but yours doesn't seem to hit them. Nice find!

    I do like the looks of your more economical bed extender. However, the Ford Lund model bed extender was designed to go near the edge of the tailgate. Yours is about 4-5" off from the edge. The reason the Ford bed extender was designed to go to the edge was to accommodate a bike in the back of the truck. I think yours will fall short for that function. But, otherwise, yours is a better solution both looks-wise and budget-wise.

It installed perfectly, but when I turned it to put it in the bed, the rail cover mechanism sticks out and Blocked the bed liner from going into the bed. X-Terrain Model

    • @Sembazuru
      @Sembazuru 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That was my concern. I'm considering the BAK X4s (I believe the ford hard rollup is basically a BAK X2 with ford branding) which has the same type of rail cover mechanism for locking the sides of the cover when closed. Bummer that a bed extender won't work. I'll just have to rely on ratchet straps or some sort of cargo net to hold items that extend onto the tailgate.

    • @nomnomtech4070

      You would have about half of the kayak hanging off which may be against certain states regulations but if you strap it down properly and make sure you follow local guidelines such as having a safety flag displayed I’m sure it wouldn’t be much of an issue. Just check your local laws. They do make carriers specifically for kayaks I believe

    Thanks! What does the square piece of metal behind the tail light do? Is it structural or is it because you need to add the nut to the back of the short screws? Could you just use the right threaded screws instead?

    • @99shadows66
      @99shadows66 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The plate added behind the taillight is indeed a structural part. When properly installed, you are sandwiching the factory upright bed support in between the bed extender's hinge mount and the supplied plate. You could use nutserts for a faster install but that would eliminate the plate and possibly space the hinge plate away from the upright support a bit. The factory holes that are on the uprights won't offer enough support as they are not threaded holes and there isn't enough metal there to use threaded screws safely.
