If you would have said don't get this hybrid version because it's new and they may not have the bugs worked out I would have bought into that, but for you to just act like hybrid systems are going to cause you to pay through the nose because you haven't educated yourself as to the reliability of hybrid systems it may be time for me to move on.

I've had mine on August and it's great. I'm not a truck person and I'm not pretended to be either. I was looking for a Honda Civic as a second car for me and my family of 4 (two kids 4 and 5 yo) and I came across with these truck. They cost the same and I get so much more practicality with the Maverick. Now I'm enjoying going to the beach and no care that much how much sand gets in the car because I use the bed. Also I can take the family to the park and take the bikes, scooters and even the battery car of my son. The bed may not be enough for working but it's perfect for recreation and family trips. It's great.

Get yourself a catch can, that will help buy you time. These engines are unfinished as far as I'm concerned, most manufacturers are adding in MPI to the fuel delivery to prevent this from happening. Don’t go with the eco boost if you don’t have to. This type of hybrid system is the most reliable type of power train on the road. It was modeled after the Toyota Prius Prius with the eCVT which has no gears and last a very a long time. Hybrids tend to be more reliable than standard ICE setups.

      “Only 20 mpg” 😂
I enjoy reading real owner testimonials such as yours, as a EcoBoost AWD Maverick w/Tow Pkg may be something I consider to eventually replace my current “small work truck”.
I’ve a ‘08 Sport Trac 4WD with the 4.6L and 121k miles, and am lucky to get 15 mpg babying it, usually closer to 11-12 mpg average. Great little truck for working on my property up in rural Ohio consisting of 5+ acres with woods, partially separated by a creek that has a small bridge to access the back half (bridge is too narrow for a full-size truck, and creek’s approach/departure angles are too steep to traverse). I don’t tow anything heavier than about 3k so the Maverick Tow Pkg could handle that, and the Trac’s main duties consist of dragging fallen trees and transporting rocks/gravel/dirt/stumps/miscellaneous heavy stuff in the bed throughout the year, whether perfect conditions or snow and ice. Sounds like the Maverick could easily handle what I deal with!

Well most that have the hybrid are getting at least 40 mpg the regular at 26 mpg so at 13 K miles a year and at 3.20 a gallon you save about 1000 dollar in gas each year 10 year 10 grand saving . Oh the gas engine in 2023 now same price as hybrid .It was only the 2022 that the gas cost more. BUT my research on the direct injection 2.0 I see many talking about excess carbon build up on the valves some saying they need to be cleaned after 60 K miles. The 2.5 hybrid is port injection no carbon build up.

I am speaking broadly. But as someone who worked maint & light repair at a Ford dealership, those hybrids & electric cars do have problems in the long run. They can be decent vehicles (the hybrid) & I have seen Ford's hybrids do alright (They are Toyota powertrains).
A problem is getting people who know how to work on them. At the dealer I worked at we had some very good techs, but even they were brought to their limits either taking too long to fix the issue, or it couldn't be solved. If you buy a vehicle where no one is going to be able to fix any potential problems you're going to have, then do you really want to deal with that? Parasitic draws are some of the more prominent problems that hybrids & electric cars can have & they are a major pain to diag.
Don't get be wrong, the ecoboost certainly does have its problems & I tell people to be very meticulous when maintaining their vehicle. They are problem childs. But the alterative isn't going to do you any better unless you do a lot of city driving. Then you may have more of an advantage with a hybrid. Personally, I drive naturally aspirated.

Now having said that. Former Ford tech here; couple things. Toward the beginning of the video, the comments about the longevity of the technology from the Ecoboost to the Atkinson Hybrid are backwards honestly, at least from a Ford perspective. The 2.5 atk is a Duratec from 2010 with different cam profiles and VCT strategy, and the hybrid drive unit is fairly unchanged from the Gen II units from first gen Fusions/Escapes. The 2.0 ecoboost is both a newer platform, and in my experience more tedious and expensive to work on from a parts perspective. I mean, the 2.5atk has zero front drive accessories and is still Port Injected lol
Also book time on the head gasket is lower for the Hybrid by about 2 hours.

It’s so funny to me how misunderstood this car is by avid truck lovers.
This is not a truck for people who want a truck, it’s a truck for those who don’t want a truck. That’s the demographic Ford was aiming to appeal to with this car. Personally, I don’t want a large vehicle, but this truck is appealing to me, hence why I bought one. If I ever need a truck bed, I have a 4.5 foot bed, or 6ft bed with the lift-gate down, with numerous tie downs, so there’s plenty you can do with the bed. I also got the 4k Towing Package, so I can tow certain things if I need to. I got the 2L Ecoboost with AWD, which is great for Michigan winters, and I actually get decent gas mileage.
It’s essentially the perfect car for me, and I think of it more like an SUV with a truck bed, because that’s essentially what it is. There’s a huge market for this vehicle, and it’s not aimed towards those who already own large trucks, it’s aimed at people who drive Sedans, SUVs, etc, who don’t want a huge truck, but might want some of the utility that comes with one.

Most people also see the E-cvt and immediately think it is a cvt (like Nissan). Do some research people.
Someone has already commented about the escape hybrids that have been used as taxis. They have a ton of miles on them.

The 2.0 Ecoboost with the 8 speed is actually quick and efficient at the same time. Interesting part is mine skips second gear and goes to third. The reason is second is approx 3.30 and third is 3.01. Too close to be usable and I find only way to use second is to do a second gear start.

The snow and ice problems we're having here in northern Idaho this winter is redic, but never an issue with AWD, gonna get rid of my 2005 Chevy trailblazer with 4 wheel drive, the Ford Maverick doesn't spin a tire, but the Chevy ...🥲...

Great review Scotty. My neighbor ordered a 2022 Maverick hybrid and waited 9 months ro get it. He was surprised that his base model did not come with cruise control. It's a nice vehicle and similar to my 2009 Adrenalin Sport Trac in size and style. But I prefer my V8 and 6900 lb towing capacity on my 4 wheel drive.

Yes, keep it simple, (so where are the crank windows?), the Hybrid is the Base? What I would had liked to see on this one would be a 2 door version with a small package shelf, I only use the back seat for packages anyway. the small pickup (S-10, 80's-90's Ranger, Original Tacoma) was functional and affordable, so I often wonder why it disappeared. Thanks for your opinion & review, never purchased new, (I only drive 5-10K a year now if that) but a vehicle I may consider used if they hold up.

Thanks for your perspective Scotty! With hybrid you are relying on Ford to make a reliable system. If it is, the gas benefits are great, but any repairs definitely could be a huge hassle. Time will tell.
So far everyone wants hybrids so maybe more mechanics will be able to service them.

Thing is their Hybrids have proven reliable for the past 15 years or so. They cross patented technology with Toyota, what's more reliable than that when it comes to Hybrid vehicles?

The 2.0 Ecoboost engine is very peppy and fun to drive. I have that engine in my 2013 Escape with All Wheel Drive. I currently have 120,000 miles on it with no problems. I change the oil with Penzoil Platinum full synthetic every 5k and it does not use any oil between changes. And no carbon problems because Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W-30 keeps pistons up to 45% cleaner than the toughest industry standard, Another benefit of the AWD is essentially no torque steer, and a more stable ride. The unibody has no squeaks after 10 years. So I am hoping that the Maverick proves to be a solid truck after ten years too.

Just wish we had a real Ute in states. Toyota has that yellow thing with the large funky roll-bars but I don’t think that counts. If the maverick was just a little lower. It effects mileage too so ugh, frustrating. Clearance is nice but I just want fuel economy.

It will be interesting to see what Toyota does for a unibody pickup, but like all Toyota trucks they're not going to get good gas mileage and if they're going to cost as much as a Tacoma and only get 1 or 2 mpg more, there's no reason to choose a Toyota unibody pickup over the Tacoma except ride quality.
