Hi! Pacifica Hybrid owner here! Alex - sorry but your note at the end about remote starting the PacHy in your garage is…. Well I wouldn’t recommend that. If the car believes the outdoor temperature is below 40 degrees F, it *will* start the gasoline engine to heat the cabin. So yeah, please don’t say that. I had been planning on getting a Carnival, but after comparing ownership experiences on the Carnival message boards vs. Sienna, I decided I wouldn't be comfortable with the variety of issues some of the owners were dealing with and the slow responses by dealerships and Kia. The $3000 price increase from 2024 to 2025 decreased its value argument against the Sienna. I'm excited to receive my 2025 Sienna XSE AWD in a few weeks.

(For context, I own size 56 road bikes) Extremely comfortable driving position! I thought the HUD was a gimmick but in real world use, I’m loving it! Then there’s the MPG’s; 35-40 gives me over 600 miles on a tank of gas. Big win! The price is lofty, but Travis brought up an excellent point that many SUV’s are at and above that cost with, in my opinion, far less utility. IMHO, Toyota should make more Siennas than any other model in their lineup…
I did and that was pretty cool, however: For the last 2 years I’ve been renting minivans for every cycling event I have attended. So minivans were the way to go, I just had to choose the right one. After renting everything except the Carnival, buying the Sienna just made sense. IMHO, it was the no compromise option! 🙂
I've test driven all of the vans in existence today and the Sienna by far is the most comfortable riding vehicle in existence. The others have some nifty features but if comfort is your priority, the Sienna owns this category.
We bought one of these late 2020 so was one of the first of this generation to roll off the assembly line before demand went nuts and dealers weren’t marking anything up. Zero issues, AWD and gets the same fuel economy as the compact car we replaced. This is the most practical vehicle you can buy out there hands down if you want economy and awd as well which none of the competition offers. Never had a need to remove the rear seats but can see how that would be annoying for some that need max cargo space. Who cares if the drivetrain is buzzy under acceleration, minor gripe. I’ve never noticed acceleration being negatively affected at high altitudes and steep grades and I live in the mountains. Toyota needs to find a way to make this a PHEV then this would be the cherry on top. Minivans >> SUVs any day!
I've been wanting a hybrid Sienna since before they made one. Finally was able to get a 2024 XLE FWD in red in summer in June. My wife and I have 3 kiddos and it's a HUGE upgrade from our 2010 Mazda 5. The interior is very well thought out. I love all the storage up front for knick knacks, phones, wallets, etc. And the ride is sublime, so smooth, soaks up the bumps really well. It's got plenty of power for merging and passing--did a road trip with 3 adults, 3 kids, and all our stuff from NC to PA (plus a day trip to North Jersey) and it performed really well--we kept an average of 36.7mpg for the entirety of that trip. As for the infotainment, the older version works great and I'm glad there is an option to dim the screen for night-time driving or just turn the screen off entirely if you're driving at night in bad weather. That said, I do think Toyota would benefit from having a dedicated button for toggling the screen on and off like Chrysler does.
I am the biggest Sienna fan, owned a 2006, and now a 2016 at 250k miles. But I hate the design, I just don't understand why Toyota is using this design language? Any other minivan, looks so much better
Bought one last year through a dealership friend with no markup. This is by far the best minivan. MPG and luxury feel takes it over the top. Zero issues and feels great. Power is lower than before on uphill highway passing. Plug in hybrid isn’t possible for those of you asking. Take a look at car care nut underbody review and you will see there’s no space underneath.
Toyota Sienas in the Houston area have been $5K+ over sticker or a whole bunch of dealer add ons $5-10K just to get or a wait list. Ended up choosing a Honda Odyssey $4K under msrp instead because I can’t say, even if it is slightly better, it’s worth the price difference.
Clausterphobic floating console is a show stopper. Move the gear shift forward and delete the floating console. Guess I'll keep my 2014 Sienna where the driver is given MUCH more space.
Alex and Travis, Before diving too deeply into the Sienna, may we take a moment to appreciate Toyota's greatest achievement* of the 21st century? Naturally, I am referring to the first generation Matrix we glimpse around 14:36. 🥳🥳 Getting back to the minivan market, Toyota recently announced a 20% increase in Sienna production for 2025. That should go some way towards meeting demand for the most rational choice in the segment. Finally, the term 'cargo van' was brought up once or twice in the discussion. Toyota manufactures a full range of cargo/delivery vans for other markets. In this age of endless door to door delivery on every suburban street on the continent, it remains a great mystery why Toyota allows Ford, Fiat, GM etc to have the market to themselves.🤔 * North American achievement.
Odyssey is the best driving, most practical other than as a cargo van, and highest quality inside. MPG is low but so is complexity, reliability is high (for a minivan).
@ Yeah but no significant issues with the 10 speed. So if you look for a used one, only consider Touring and Elite trims for 2018-2019, then any trim for 2020+. Personally I like the improvements in 2021 though.
@@SimonGonzalOSMight depend on the year. Odyssey and Pacifica shared a clunky transmission at first, but I think around 2019/2020 Honda switched to a new one.
Why does this review basically act like the Odyssey doesn’t exist when it is the top selling minivan to retail customers in the US and is rated the best minivan by automotive journalism review aggregators like USNews?
It's the top selling due to volume produced. If siennas produced the same amount they would eat all the market share. There's a reason there's markups and 1-2 year waitlist for Siennas. The mpg alone is a standout factor for a minivan and it's reliable with strong resale value
I should add that you need to take Honda's "retail sales" thing with a grain of salt. Just because Honda has no fleet discount program does not mean that fleets don't buy Hondas. Hertz for instance rents Hondas and they currently have more used ex-rental Hondas for sale than they have Buicks, Mitsubishis, or Volkswagens. Fleets simply have to buy via a dealer like most companies and they can get volume discounts, just not "rebates" from the OEM like Ford and Gm do.
@@AAutoBuyersGuide So can you provide any evidence of Odyssey being refreshed again one year after the 2025 refresh, or are you just mistaken? Because last I checked Automotive News says full redesign in MY 2028.

That thing is hideous. I have no problem with Minivans looking like minivans. Honda Odyssey is fine, normal looking Minivan. This has mutant space fish styling. IIRC this has non foldable, non removable middle seats making it less practical for part time cargo duty. So last choice to me.

Nice review of a solid vehicle. I still think the Pacifica with a plug is more appealing overall, but the reliability gives me pause. One question - Alex's voiceover says Sienna to 60 from prior test in 7.6 seconds, but the screen scores say 8.4 but still refer to prior test?
Unfortunately not all Toyota siennas comes with factory equipped spare tire, front doors smart access. And in some packages and trims it is hard to combine eight passenger configuration with a factory equipped donut spare tire, and all-wheel drive in the same time
Not to complain about the good ol' days of minivans, but the trend away from foldable or even removable second-row seats is unfortunate. Chrysler set the standard with the Grand Caravan back in 1987, introducing the ability to hold a 4x8' sheet of plywood with the hatch closed. Chrysler still has a monopoly on creating a truly flat cargo floor with Stow 'n Go seats, since Odyssey now has sizable seat tracks even after you take out the second row. I guess everyone gets their plywood delivered these days?
My cynical theory for manufacturers that continue to use piano black pieces is that they are hoping that people will spend more money to replace all the scratched pieces. :p
@SimonGonzalOS What specifically? I know people like to crap on Chrysler products but my 05 Magnum still runs fine and Alex had 0 issues with his durango.
I think he was referring to running out of battery assist. If you’re climbing a decent grade, it’ll only take a mile or two before the ICE is doing all the power producing.
Sold my 2011 Sienna for 16 k last month, paid 30k plus tax 13 years ago. Toyota for the resale win. Waiting on a my new 2025 XLE with AWD , all grey seating ,no black seats and with spare tire, now it’s at the factory being built.
Run out of battery is simply an expression for "effective 0% SOC" and yes, Toyota hybrids can get to an SOC where the vehicle can draw no more power from the battery. It's not a perpetual motion machine, it cannot deliver 245 HP continuously for long periods when the engine alone makes under 190.
@@AAutoBuyersGuidethe best way to get a response from Alex is to suggest you could possibly know more than him about any car or to say he was inaccurate
The pre refresh Carnival was real competition to this and the Odyssey but now they made the Carnival super ugly in the face like its a rejected character from Finding Nemo Give me this in XSE format any day over the new Carnival
I've had almost got the 25" Sienna platium trim last week after two months of waiting, but i end up didn't get it because it has the mini fridge that took up alot of space for my need, i have tree little kids that that fridge it block the middle walk way when my kids to move around, just keep my 21" limited for now
That rear bumper looks like it wouldn't protect anything in a slow speed collision, the hatch would come into contact with anything hitting it in the rear because the rear bumper doesn't stick out at all, totally useless for protection. Would help if you would mention how the 4wd works, from what I understand the rear drive is just an electric motor so when the juice from the battery is used up you have no more 4wd, is that true?
mini wan owners know this well. A slight bump will damage the rear door, and being plastic you likely need to replace the whole thing. This is a trend. Some how the designers think this looks better. I think the lower side of the rear looks very ugly.
I was heavily considering Carnival, however there seems to be lots of battery draining issue with the Carnival, and Carnival’s hybrid system is very questionable, it uses much smaller displacement engine.i end up ordered a Sienna with AWD. The 2025 interior is not as bad, new infotainment system is actually more smooth than the Carnival.
The true people mover from Toyota is the diesel Toyota HiAce. I traveled in one while on an mission trip in Honduras and was amazed at the space, fuel economy and reliability
I would add lots of other models from Toyota and Honda into the list of aggressively ugly vehicles. Those 2 companies simply don't care about pleasing the eyes as BMW kidney grill in front does: eye offending design is a norm these days.
Yeah I’d take the carnival or Pacifica or odyssey every single day. They look better, they’re more comfortable, the carnivals a lot nicer, has more features and unlike the sienna they’re not all overpriced and loaded with markups. Even the cheaper grades of those other vans are nicer than the sienna
Carnival has lots of markups. Word has gotten out and even used ones are going for a lot. Odyssey is great but getting long in the tooth. Same for Pacifica (and I'm a Pacifica owner).
If you can rap your head around the reliability on a Kia go for it, my hard earned money, for the long haul ,i would shop for reliability and resale first so I would definitely go Toyota Siena
Another comment where Naveen Lanza has no idea what he is talking about. This guy makes less than $20 k a year, he barely affording used 2008 Caravan. Brother-in-law has a non plugin Pacifica and we got multiple family friends with current gen Siennas, they all have their own strengths and weaknesses give me a break..
The only real competition for the Sienna is the Carnival, but if you want AWD, then it’s out of the story, Of course there is the Pacifica AWD but that won’t get near the same MPG’s that this does. So that’s out of the story too. The Odyssey literally has no redeeming qualities over the competition except if you want the Honda V6
Kia Carnival looks and practically much better than this. I will wait until next all new Sienna. That is why Hyundai Kia Genesis auto group became 3rd largest auto manufacturer in the world. why don't you make direct comparison video be twin Carnival and Sienna Hybrid minivan.
The pre refresh carnival was handsome. New one looks like a rejected finding Nemo character in the front. I'd never want to spend that much money on something that ugly in the front
They aren't sponsoring it, they are just paying to put ads on YT. We have nothing to do with the selection of Google Ads that run on our channel, all we can do is ban certain categories.

Can never be ultimate van IF seats can't be removed 😂
When you reverse does the guide line changes depending on how you turn ? Wife’s only request if she get a minivan
BRING BACK THE PREVIA !!
No lane steering assist on a 50k+ vehicle is a deal killer.
Sienna gets Safety Sense 2.0 which does have lane centering.
The interior design of Sienna is kind of too old school. In these days, only very few prople still use the roof mounted TV.
Sienna is good-looking minivan. If I were in the market for one, Sienna would 100% be my choice. Its hybrid powertrain is the main reason.
I love Toyota/Lexus. But, their grills have been super ugly for the past 10+ years.
The pre refresh Carnival was real competition to this and the Odyssey but now they made the Carnival super ugly in the face like its a rejected character from Finding Nemo
Give me this in XSE format any day over the new Carnival
ID buzz has a roof several inches taller than this. not having to do a crouched duck walk inside of it alone would send me to VW
I have a 2024 Sienna Platinum and the front seats actually hurt your butt as they are so damn hard on the bottom section.
We still do not know how the composite (not metal) rear door performs in rear crash test. When will a journalist ask Toyota about it?
Toyota Sienna needs a name change. How about Toyota Hugly. It's short for Hideously ugly.
That’s a personal opinion. Others say that they like its looks.
does it still have noodle rear springs?
I've had almost got the 25" Sienna platium trim last week after two months of waiting, but i end up didn't get it because it has the mini fridge that took up alot of space for my need, i have tree little kids that that fridge it block the middle walk way when my kids to move around, just keep my 21" limited for now
It's a nice vehicle but the look is awful. Needs a refresh
9:53 That's what she said.
Does it…float? It looks like it floats.
What’s the point when you have to wait 2 years
That rear bumper looks like it wouldn't protect anything in a slow speed collision, the hatch would come into contact with anything hitting it in the rear because the rear bumper doesn't stick out at all, totally useless for protection.
I think the lower side of the rear looks very ugly.
nope, just make it simple outside, great inside, ugly outside
SIXTY THOUSAND DOLLARS? 😅😂
No one complains that trucks look boxy????
Vey dated car, comparing to Carnival ...... the only plus is the Toyota reliability ,AWD and a better MPG
All of that make it better then the Kia. the Kia will only last 100k miles...
The only thing better is a lot of stuff that makes it a lot better
@@cosmin42 but the reliability is a myth on Toyota
@@naveenthemachinewhat do you mean by myth?
I was heavily considering Carnival, however there seems to be lots of battery draining issue with the Carnival, and Carnival’s hybrid system is very questionable, it uses much smaller displacement engine.i end up ordered a Sienna with AWD. The 2025 interior is not as bad, new infotainment system is actually more smooth than the Carnival.
Did they actually engineer a decent looking trailer hitch this time?
Not that afterthought from the last one, that hangs down to fast and looks awful
Toyota, why no passenger lumbar? There is no Lexus minivan!
The true people mover from Toyota is the diesel Toyota HiAce. I traveled in one while on an mission trip in Honduras and was amazed at the space, fuel economy and reliability
That centre console is ugly
Its to tight in between the captains chairs in the second row. That console take up to much space.
Looks like a rowenta iron box
Sienna and Murai are the ugliest vehicles on the market!!!
I would add lots of other models from Toyota and Honda into the list of aggressively ugly vehicles.
Those 2 companies simply don't care about pleasing the eyes as BMW kidney grill in front does: eye offending design is a norm these days.
Jimmy stop touchiing yourself
😂 yeah, please go buy a Chrysler and Kia products! Some people just don’t learn.
@@ahbrian the next gen sienna will be another gigantic disaster
@@naveenthemachinethis one isn’t a disaster though. You and others may have your preferences but that is a very different thing.
I would have a carnival over the Sienna everyday now they have a hybrid. Mostly because of the extra trunk space.
2018 Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 in 2025 model. Total failure by Toyota.
Those minivans are to expensive
Why is Acura sponsoring this video?
They aren't sponsoring it, they are just paying to put ads on YT. We have nothing to do with the selection of Google Ads that run on our channel, all we can do is ban certain categories.
Second row seat not removable can’t be called a minivan💩
