I just bought a second hand Asus TUF 3060 TI and was disappointed by the huge fan noise. After some research, I was convinced that the thermal paste was to be changed. I follow the guide (only changed the thermal paste) with success easily and gained 15° C (70°C average on 3D Mark Time Spy to 55°C) so I would say 3 times noise reduction which make my graphic card really quiet now! So don't blame the fans first as it could be the thermal paste (which was completely dry). Thanks for the tutorial and I hope it helps someone :).

IDK if there are different Versions of the cooler available, but that pad size did not fit. The pads you mentioned which are 2.0 need at least 3 maybe 4mm. Also 1.5 for memory does not really squish the pads. I guess for memory it works, as I installed the 1.5mm and temps are ok (75 on hotspot @ 200W) but not at it full potential I guess? But the coils definitely need more. I packed 2 x 2mm on them and on the one the vrms under the extra heatsink 2 and 1.5 for the Coils. you can clearly see gaps when you assemble the card at the vrms where the pads don't contact both sides at least on my tuf gaming oc.
Its really fine going up with thickness with pads as long as you pick a soft kind of pads that would still works.

But the thermal pad thicknes is different on mine or maybe this is a v1 tuf card insted of a v2 version.
Anyway for those who have the same issue the vram pads are around 1.75mm so I would recomend very soft 2mm pads like gelid gp extreme that I used.For the mosfet it is around 3mm so you could use that or be like me and stack two 1.5mm pads on top of each other. I don't know about the one underneath the bracket as but the rest is fine for me
Thanks bro! Regarding the thickness of pads.. There's no accurate answer really regarding the 100% correct thickness of the pads..because some gpu has been passed on already from different owner, they've been bought and sold as 2nd or maybe as third owner of that particular gpu. Unless the gpu was still sealed before you tear it down. So possibly the thermal pads has been change with the wrong thickness..🤔
+1 ram 1.75 or 2mm, mosfets 3mm
I'm still waiting for a 2.5mm soft thermal pad, I'll try to add it to the backplate. there either 2.25 or 2.5 would be ideal

Two different thickness of pads used on this Particular card.. 1.5mm & 2.0mm..NOT 3.0mm. But 3.0mm should be fine on the area has 2.0mm IF your pads is SOFT, some pads are Hard or stiff

@@Mustaach Those chips around the GPU Chip are 1.5mm and those on the side with the long pads is 2mm.. it actually shows in the videos which area are 1.5mm and 2mm.
For some reason the 2mm pads under the shroud (the ones under the metal tab under the cooling fins) arent touching the modules.
Double check if it screwed in properly and all mounting areas seats in. Thats more likely what happened.

Hi bro! the VRAM areas has 1.5mm thickness and the rest of other chips has 2mm thickness. hope this helps.

Great tutorial. Bought a second hand card and they never replaced the thermal paste or nothing. Hitting 83c on everything I ran it. After changing thermal paste. Furmark, Heaven, even Cyberpunk 77 on RTX only hit a max of 73c. Anything till 78 is good for me but the less the better. 3070 Card version of this though

My TUF RTX 3060Ti have different pads. 1.5mm on VRAM but 2.5mm on coils at least.
That's possible, because in real world scenario non of us could give the most accurate measurements unless stated by the manufacturer. In my case, all the measurements been said on my videos are approximate or the result given on my measuring caliper.
I have the same measurements, I wish I saw this comment before buying pads

Bro, just want to make clear here..you saw in my videos that i've used a vernier caliper to measure those pads thickness..I'm just giving ideas and information as possible to those who need it. That's not a false information..there is a proof.

Hi bro! I suggest better to go for 1.5mm but make sure use a Soft thermal Pads like an Arctic TP-3 or equivalent softness..that's only my own opinion..up to you to decide..😀

Bro, I took the risk of disassembling and buying them, I had mostly 2mm and very little 3mm.

Hello my friend, can you help me? I have a graphics card asus tuf rtx 3060ti. I have a problem that confused me. I did not find the solution. My problem is that when my graphics card starts up, it gives me a white light once, and when I restart it again, it works for a specific period (15 minutes/30) and gives me a screen. Black with the computer and card still running
Sorry for the late reply, Do you mean, that White light from the screen monitor.. Then few minutes after it goes black screen..is that what you mean bro?
Thermal pads are pretty good on this card, unlike the 3080 version. Unlikely to need to replace them ever. The thermal paste is definitely not very good though. Always manually spread thermal paste on a gpu, that is a bare die. You will get bad hot spots and need to do the whole thing over again, or use a pad if you don't have normal dexterity. You will lose a little bit of thermal performance with a pad vs paste, but likely not enough to matter.
edit: to clarify, when I say pad for the gpu, I mean the thermal pads made for cpu. They are usually made from graphite or some other material Do not use the big ones that you would use for vram and such, those would absolutely smash your gpu die.
There is new product from Thermal Grizzly called Carbonaut Carbon thermal pads, its a High performance and Reusable. and the other one is Kryo Sheets also from Thermal Grizzly, which is High Performance and be aware this one is Electrically conductive, so should handle with care. Both can be use on CPU or GPU die as Thermal Paste replacements.
how is asus rtx 3060 ti gddr6x made? and what about zotac gpu are well made as they do give 5 year warranty?
Personally, ASUS made a better product than ZOTAC.. i had few Zotac in the past, they are majority on the budget side, mostly plasticky but performance is fine similar. Asus built is like a Premium side but downside they are usually pricey! 😔

I didn't meant that the Zotac is not a good quality, still is.. But what i'm talking about is Asus made a better design, use better or maybe a better plastic and metal, thats only my personal opinion based on what i've noticed. But to be honest overall they both last very long that depends of the user how they lookaftet their hardware.
Just maintain to clean your system more ofter dustoff, make sure have a good air flow intake and exhaust, don't stress your card too long period of time.. And for sure your gpu will last for years bro. Change pads and paste atleast once a year thats the way to go.

it looks like asus did a good job on their tuf 3060 and 3060 ti using thermal pads on vram and mosfets and contact to the heatsink ... saw another video where there was no pads on the vram and mosfets of their 3080 line causing them to overheat and fail
I don't think if that was from the factory that has no pads on the chips..probably the previous owner strip it down ang forgot to put pads on it..hehehe

@@vingaming6535 If the corrosion is building up on the Fins of the Heatsinks..all i could recommend is rub it with the finest STEEL BRUSH you can find it in Amazon or ebay or maybe on your local Hardware shops..be careful while doing it..then after rubbung with wire brush, clean it with 99 percent Isoprophyl Alcohol to wash out those corrosion residue.

If its oil based cleaner, i won't recommend it. What i did on mine i rubbed with very fine wire brush then just brush it with normal paint brush after with isoprophyl alcohol then blow with air blower or hair dryer to let it dry.
