The employees of Maker hated RWJ, they said and I quote: “He would come in to yell at everyone and he was 5 feet tall”. He’s also been know to abuse copyright and strike down videos using his likeness for memes.

My first reaction to seeing this vid was just “Why is he back?” I feel like the internet has outgrown him. It’s been like 10 years since his peak popularity.
Yk if he actually tried and made the videos the punchline it could be considered funny. Like offensive humor is big, especially right now (for whatever reason) and it can be funny. Something like Tim Minchin’s “Prejudice” or “Storm” is a perfect example of how shock humor can be good and super dark. Bo Burnham’ “K!ll yourself” is another. it’s for a point and it’s a joke, it’s not a thing that can be interpreted another way and that’s the point.
The entire joke is "Puerto Ricans are stinky" and "Mexicans breed like rabbits" and stuff like that... I don't see how you can make that decent. It's like being bullied at a playground as a kid and the bully just says later "I joke I joke haha you fucking loser, don't take it so seriously!" The songs you mentioned don't have actual hurtful ethnical slurs in them, they just play with the idea.

Pewdiepie's content wasn't particularly offensive either, yes he did go through a phase where he tried to be edgy which was clearly him trying way too hard to move away from the image of him being a children's entertainer, but I dont remember his content being particularly offensive (at least not moreso than anyone else on the platform at the time), the main issue with him is the n-word controversy which was very fucked up but doesnt really have much to do with his actual content so again not really comparable to RWJ.
So much of YFM was just such edgelord awful stuff (which i just cant remember why i enjoyed way back when) but when there were songs that were about being a kind a person who couldnt change their situation and felt this impotent anger towards a big world that they just coudlnt understand there was actually something there, take over the world, alien and complicated were all very honest songs that were honestly kind of interesting (but sadly for each of them there were 5 or 6 songs that are best forgotten but sadly are emblazened in my brain)

I’ve got a condition called hemiplegic migraine, which causes paralysis in one side of the body before/during migraines. It looks pretty much like having a stroke where the left arm/leg/half of my face go limp. Flashing lights can trigger an episode and they’re not just painful but dangerous. It can make me unable to swallow or understand language and can even cause a coma. I can handle white flashing light just fine luckily but this was red on black and it’s no joke! On the upside I stopped hearing the song when the flashes came ☺️

There's a lot of his stuff that didn't age particularly well (and the fact he never got massive trouble for transphobic techno is surprising as hell), but a few of them were just chill songs that weren't bad. The two new songs feel like they're trying way too hard though.
It seems like he didn't get in trouble for them because at the time people weren't as sensitive about it then as they are now among other topics. And it's just the fact that everyone basically forgot about those videos. But I could be wrong on that though 🤷. Glossing over the fact that this is clearly from a different point in time when things were different, I still think the biggest issue is that, yes, you can touch on sensitive subjects like racism or crack dark jokes, but you have to do it _tastefully_ . Some kind of finesse and understanding of the subject is necessary. The fact that he actively reuploads these videos and the way he frames them (like he's relevant enough to get cancelled) only underlines how much he lacks said finesse. It kinda sucks that he had to do shit like The Stereotype Song or Transphobic Techno when Zombie Love Song, a rather innocuous and inoffensive song, is right there - it's nothing special but it did give me a kick of nostalgia when I listened to it again. It feels like a song written by a bunch of guys just having fun. The rest feels like very badly handled shock value content that aged like milk festering for ten years. My first reaction to seeing this vid was just “Why is he back?” I feel like the internet has outgrown him. It’s been like 10 years since his peak popularity.
Yk if he actually tried and made the videos the punchline it could be considered funny. Like offensive humor is big, especially right now (for whatever reason) and it can be funny.
Something like Tim Minchin’s “Prejudice” or “Storm” is a perfect example of how shock humor can be good and super dark. Bo Burnham’ “K!ll yourself” is another. it’s for a point and it’s a joke, it’s not a thing that can be interpreted another way and that’s the point.
The entire joke is "Puerto Ricans are stinky" and "Mexicans breed like rabbits" and stuff like that... I don't see how you can make that decent. It's like being bullied at a playground as a kid and the bully just says later "I joke I joke haha you fucking loser, don't take it so seriously!"

So much of YFM was just such edgelord awful stuff (which i just cant remember why i enjoyed way back when) but when there were songs that were about being a kind a person who couldnt change their situation and felt this impotent anger towards a big world that they just coudlnt understand there was actually something there, take over the world, alien and complicated were all very honest songs that were honestly kind of interesting (but sadly for each of them there were 5 or 6 songs that are best forgotten but sadly are emblazened in my brain)

I’ve got a condition called hemiplegic migraine, which causes paralysis in one side of the body before/during migraines. It looks pretty much like having a stroke where the left arm/leg/half of my face go limp.
Flashing lights can trigger an episode and they’re not just painful but dangerous. It can make me unable to swallow or understand language and can even cause a coma. I can handle white flashing light just fine luckily but this was red on black and it’s no joke! On the upside I stopped hearing the song when the flashes came ☺️

There's a lot of his stuff that didn't age particularly well (and the fact he never got massive trouble for transphobic techno is surprising as hell), but a few of them were just chill songs that weren't bad. The two new songs feel like they're trying way too hard though.
It seems like he didn't get in trouble for them because at the time people weren't as sensitive about it then as they are now among other topics. And it's just the fact that everyone basically forgot about those videos. But I could be wrong on that though 🤷.
But now it seems like that is exactly what he wants in order to be relevant again, and it's super baffling 😕!

Oh no. A much younger and cringier me actually liked RWJ way back when. My friends and I recently discussed that most stuff we enjoyed ten years ago is barely watchable today (like Big Bang Theory, for example), including his videos for sure. I kind of assumed he grew up and moved on, how naive of me
Glossing over the fact that this is clearly from a different point in time when things were different, I still think the biggest issue is that, yes, you can touch on sensitive subjects like racism or crack dark jokes, but you have to do it _tastefully_ . Some kind of finesse and understanding of the subject is necessary. The fact that he actively reuploads these videos and the way he frames them (like he's relevant enough to get cancelled) only underlines how much he lacks said finesse. It kinda sucks that he had to do shit like The Stereotype Song or Transphobic Techno when Zombie Love Song, a rather innocuous and inoffensive song, is right there - it's nothing special but it did give me a kick of nostalgia when I listened to it again. It feels like a song written by a bunch of guys just having fun. The rest feels like very badly handled shock value content that aged like milk festering for ten years.
And Orphan Tears part II... is somehow worse than what he put out a _decade_ ago. How?
