We really need to get a new form of entertainment online beyond "shocking" or "offensive" videos made by perpetual 12 y/olds, because we're so far gone from the days of most content taking creativity & talent to make & become popular.

truly worrying. youtube is so destructive if you are not able to discern the dangers. have you tried talking to your aunt? maybe showing her this video or another one on the topic, for example the one on logan paul’s new energy drink that pinely uploaded not long ago. video was spot on as well denouncing how these grown men market to children
That is concerning. I worry about all the kids being raised by the internet and social media without supervision. I would not let my kids online or have social media if i ever have children. It's so easy to stumble on misinformation, porn, bigotry. I recommend talking to her about the dangers of the internet, even online children's games like roblox.
This dude is an absolute atrocity to Brents everywhere. As a spokesperson for the community of Brents I hereby move to revoke his Brent status. He’s now a Bert
I remember when my mother temporarily banned my brother and me from watching TH-cam over the "Sitting on the Toilet" video. If she caught us watching Brent Rivera video, my brother and I would've grown up Amish.
It's interesting to me how a lot of the editing techniques Bret uses are superficial similar to Japanese Reality/Variety shows - but the latter read as completely for adults while Bret's comes off so juvenile
A friend of ours had to go to a funeral so we (myself and my gf) volunteered to babysit her son. He's about 6. So I thought it would be fun (and would keep him quiet) if I let him play Crash Bandicoot. He was enjoying it but what amazed me was how he was talking while playing it. He's a very shy, quiet, polite kid, but while playing he was doing the stereotypical Let's Play gamer talk like "WOAH, no way, I totes got it" and "Aw man, I can't believe that". He wasn't talking to me. To him, this was how you play games, since it's what you see. Kids are incredibly smart and I hate when people belittle them, but I think when you're exposed to something and see nothing but that type of content (even as an adult), it's easy to think "oh, this is how I do that thing, exactly like that". I don't think there's anything wrong with just random trash, but because of the algorithm, not only can you be fed nothing but that TH-camr, but what little range you're exposed to is bound to in the same style. So it's if it's not this Brent guy, it's someone he either leads to or from.
as a girl who grew up on youtube, i can definitely say a lot of the misogyny that was pushed on me by the youtubers i watched definitely affected me a lot and still subconsciously does now.
I used to watch Brent when I was in middle school. (Early 2014-ish TH-cam) A lot of this content is like y/n fan fiction-fan service. It might not have been that bad when Brent himself was a teen (since at that time his audience was other teens) but now it’s *definitely* weird.

can i just say a few things, only 5:30 in and i’m PISSED. OFF. I’m a preschool teacher. i’m new to it but let me just tell you that children should not be viewing this bullshit. not simply because it mentions sex but because of the ALIEN way that it does so, acting like sex is this big huge WOWOWOWO thing when really, most people will have a sexual experience in their lives and that is OK and normal. I absolutely hate the shower thing because my partner and i are in college & each have roommates- YOU HEAR PEOPLE FUCKING SOMETIMES. JUST LEAVE THE HOUSE OR PUT IN HEADPHONES. No one really actually goes “ OOOOOH MY GOD OOOH NO NO NO” if anything they say a really quick apology and get the hell outta there because they want to respect your privacy. god. stop cartoonizing sex please it hurts people
Elronn Hubberd figured out the easiest way to get rich was to start a religion. I think the modern equivalent is to start an obnoxious and sometimes questionable youtube show aimed at highly impressionable kids.
I remember being like 14 or 15 and he followed me on twitter out of NOWHERE. I had no idea who he was but since he had so many followers I was excited and followed him back. But he was boring so I unfollowed not too long after... This was like 7 years ago
Trisha Paytas was my favorite TH-camr when I was in middle school. I didn't know what sex was until I watched her. I think her videos gave me an unhealthy image of men
its good to know your brother has someone who can teach him about these kinds of things. so many boys grow up being homophobic, transphobic, sexist, etc. because no one has taught them any different. as someone who is afab, i have known 3 boys in total at my school who are open minded and well-educated on these types of issues. im not exaggerating when i say only 3. and on top of that, 2/3 only recognized those issues because they're part of that minority. the rest of my school throws around the f and r slur like its no big deal, casually body shames and insults the girls, and makes harmful jokes disguised as "dark humor". im glad people like you are helping to break the cycle of young kids being taught that this behavior is okay.
Why are so many kids into political stuff like that anyway? Why are so many young people either into social activism or the edgy anti-SJW culture? Just be kids! Play some Nintendo games and watch Cyberchase or something. I can't believe that I have to say this, but... There's nothing wrong with just living and enjoying life. You don't have to be glued to the news to be a good person, no matter what journalists and influencers say.
9:30 I love the idea that he's excited about the possibility of her asking him for a ride as if that wouldn't force him to admit it's not actually his car or deny her the car ride
It's like he wants to make more adult content cuz he's an adult but he doesn't want to lose his audience of minors cuz they brought him the success he has rn, but rather than making a decision to either stick with child-friendly content or move to more adult content, he'd rather just do both by doing creepy shit like this. It's sickening how common it is for child-friendly channels to do pranks and challenges that really shouldn't be marketed towards children. And I suspect the reason they get away with it is cuz they bring in a lot of people and money to TH-cam so TH-cam doesn't really care what they do so long as it's just below the line for reasonable deniability on their part.
It’s funny that you make this video because I just watched Ethan’s video like a couple of days ago but thank you for bringing light to this, people like this need to be held accountable for labeling this exploitive content as kids content, this can be so harmful to a developing kids brain! But thank you for being you, keep making videos & changing the world!
Kids TH-cam videos are mostly just this. There’s that blonde lady who always has like 5 other creators and they do money challenge that are just fulllll of sexist, regressive concepts- but they are also full of WaCKy sound effects, big houses, limos, candy, extravagant clothes and all the challenges are stuff kids would think is PEAK suspense. I lose time off my life hearing them blasted from a kids iPad 🙃
When I was younger I saw these kinds of videos, and even I knew it was weird and gross. Thankfully I understood it was weird so I just went outside and played with dolls and ate dirt like any growing child should.
This is off topic from the video, but I have to say, I’m glad you moved your channel in the direction it is. I loved the little box man, but I think putting yourself out there, and the different scenes for different sections are a really nice addition to your videos. The box man was great, but I think this just gives your videos more personality, and hopefully you finally get the recognition you deserve.
hey pinely, ive been subbed for a little while and watched your channel change a lot. the editing is has become so good and the style change has been a surprised but a good one. keep it up, can't wait to see where you go next!
Reminds me of the channel that Ann Reardon talked about that tells (fake) true crime stories for children over really colorful footage of cake decorating. She made a good point that if a kid is using headphones, you'd have no clue the "baking video" was actually concerning stories with plots like "school girl agrees to meet up with pushy older online fan and he's super nice and solves all her problems," or "child abuse; that's it that's the whole story."
Thank you and Ethan for highlighting this disgusting practice used by Brent. When you try and explain how this stuff isn't suitable to his very young audience many just regard you as a "hater" or "jealous" of Brent. The idolise Brent and the "ships" he creates. His sister and Andrew are little better.
I've asked my kids to wait until they are older to watch this kind of stuff, they don't even want to see crap like that, it's fake and misogynistic, and kids shouldn't be forced to grow up so fast
Not even grow up so fast, more like growing up incorrectly with like you said, fake and misogynistic crap. Also, thank you for being aware and protecting your kids from this type of content.
I think the biggest reason he does this kinda content, is because kids like to doing wrong stuff. They like the feeling of doing something only grownups can do. And they know “kissing” is not for their age, so they watch it without fully understanding it.
I remember last year I visited some relatives in another state and while talking to my little cousins (5-10 years old) I was shocked by just how much adult topics reached them through the internet. Thankfully my aunts and uncles try to supervise them but they still knew shit like bo burnham's bezos song, watched the first episode of squid games, and had some awareness of sexual topics that I didn't reach til i was in middle school. I remember being wary of some child-aimed content when a cousin of mine went through a jake paul phase a few years back but brent rivera is another level. I remember watching some of his comedic skits around 7 years ago or so. I'm disgusted and disappointed at what he's come to, and I'm really scared for all these kids growing up on the internet
THANK YOU . This has been on my mind for a long time and someone needed to say it. also did anyone else notice that in the screenshot of the “am I stronger than a 10 y old” vid the caption directly below says “if this video gets 500k likes I’ll ask Pierson to be my New Years KISS” and yeah he capitalized it not me 💀
No because a few years ago on Instagram his sister posted a picture of her in a pink and blue fit with the caption "Feeling like cotton candy" and why Brent comment "I love cotton candy😋" underneath....
As someone who had early access to the internet , I can confirm , I definitely would've watched that video The disgusting things on TH-cam have scarred my developing young brain for ever..
The music you often use in your videos reminds me of the modnation racers soundtrack specifically the mod spot track… which makes me very happy thank you
I personally think that a big part of this is the fact that these kids probably know those sections are inappropriate. So watching them becomes this exclusive thing that promotes that "boys' club" mentality of joking with one of the guys. They think it makes them look cool that they're exposed to this stuff and fit in their mind can joke like a cool older guy. It adds this sense of obligation so that as he promotes any brand/channel thing, his subscribers are urged to participate/buy in and these kids have no idea how it affects their view on women, sexuality, what's appropriate in a normal setting It could easily be 100x more dangerous when you think of how that very format is what shane dawson did to put kids in horribly inappropriate situations and the worst od the worst, how onion buy literally groomed children with this format. They film kids content and throw in all these sexual references, normalizing that behavior, so it doesn't stand out as odd to a kid if they ever meet them irl. And to be fair, im not accusing brett rivera of doing that bc his videos meeting kids just look like regular kid stuff but the potential is very much there.
Late but I can definitely attest to the fact that watching bad content is definitely a status symbol at schools / among children. I remember at my school people were bragging about having seen people being shot online, and seeing something gory or inappropriate was celebrated like a badge of honour so much that I can totally see an impressionable kid diving down dark rabbitholes to get in on the popularity or even just be included.
I used to be a fan of him when I was like 10-11 , now I still watch his sister and some of his friends who are funnier ,I kind of got addicted to them since I was so used to him since I was a child . Though I now take these videos with a grain of salt ofc and only watch them if I’m like really bored
This is totally intentional to lure curious young teens and kids, and he knows that they are going to watch and get more views of it so he doesn’t care if those are children

When will TH-cam stop having such stupid double standards of banning creators for saying a cuss word but allowing people like Brent to have a child audience
Brent is making TH-cam more money, so TH-cam will turn a blind eye since what he is doing is giving TH-cam more money.

We really need to get a new form of entertainment online beyond "shocking" or "offensive" videos made by perpetual 12 y/olds, because we're so far gone from the days of most content taking creativity & talent to make & become popular.
tbh it’s a complete myth that any entertainment business has ever been a meritocracy.
The almighty algorithm is driven by "shock" value, so change will have to come from pressuring changes at YT and Google. For now, reporting his content might be a good idea.
@@consentclub8431 i don’t even mean that, i mean even like elvis was picked up by a record company because he was handsome and they thought kids would buy his records.
agreed.
12 12 no it's way, way WORSE it's as young as 6
I might be a woman but I feel so much comfort whenever he calls us "Son," and idk why.
This is why I worry about my baby cousin. My aunt just lets him watching TH-cam unsupervised and I wouldn’t be surprised if he stumbled upon videos like these!
truly worrying. youtube is so destructive if you are not able to discern the dangers. have you tried talking to your aunt? maybe showing her this video or another one on the topic, for example the one on logan paul’s new energy drink that pinely uploaded not long ago. video was spot on as well denouncing how these grown men market to children
All the Brents out there accept and encourage your decision to revoke his Brent status 🙏
I'm not a Bert myself, but on behalf of the Bert community, we'd like to reject him as well
I remember when my mother temporarily banned my brother and me from watching TH-cam over the "Sitting on the Toilet" video. If she caught us watching Brent Rivera video, my brother and I would've grown up Amish.
It's interesting to me how a lot of the editing techniques Bret uses are superficial similar to Japanese Reality/Variety shows - but the latter read as completely for adults while Bret's comes off so juvenile
brent rivera is the kids bop equivelant of Brazzers.
GODDAMN
The "parents talking in unison" bit cracked me up unexpectedly 😂
That "don't sit on the wrong item" video literally has James Charles in it and I need to know nothing else
as a girl who grew up on youtube, i can definitely say a lot of the misogyny that was pushed on me by the youtubers i watched definitely affected me a lot and still subconsciously does now.
I used to watch Brent when I was in middle school. (Early 2014-ish TH-cam) A lot of this content is like y/n fan fiction-fan service. It might not have been that bad when Brent himself was a teen (since at that time his audience was other teens) but now it’s *definitely* weird.
I use to watch his dating advice things 😭😭😭
his relationship with his sister is very questionable

can i just say a few things, only 5:30 in and i’m PISSED.
Elronn Hubberd figured out the easiest way to get rich was to start a religion.
I think the modern equivalent is to start an obnoxious and sometimes questionable youtube show aimed at highly impressionable kids.
I think his name is L. Ron, not Elronn lol
I am all to aware.
I do that to try and avoid the fanatics.
I am loving this surge of Pinely content! Makes my day better and entertaining
keeping the 2014 hair really adds to it
I remember being like 14 or 15 and he followed me on twitter out of NOWHERE.

So true and so disappointing
Why are so many kids into political stuff like that anyway? Why are so many young people either into social activism or the edgy anti-SJW culture? Just be kids! Play some Nintendo games and watch Cyberchase or something.
I can't believe that I have to say this, but... There's nothing wrong with just living and enjoying life. You don't have to be glued to the news to be a good person, no matter what journalists and influencers say.
Well at least some of the kids have the awareness to go: hey wait a minute dude
I love how he in put Danny as a great example.
9:30 I love the idea that he's excited about the possibility of her asking him for a ride as if that wouldn't force him to admit it's not actually his car or deny her the car ride
I am 19 why am i seeing this :(
brent rivera. i am scarred by his content. watched him as a kid - never again.
I'm really loving these introspective videos with real studies and research as basis for criticism, love all your hard work!
This is every annoying theater kids dream: being able to act like a child even though you're 24.
someone PLEASE date brent rivera so we can be free of this
It’s funny that you make this video because I just watched Ethan’s video like a couple of days ago but thank you for bringing light to this, people like this need to be held accountable for labeling this exploitive content as kids content, this can be so harmful to a developing kids brain!
When I was younger I used to watch him A LOT when I was 9-12 I’m actually so happy more people are talking about his disgusting behavior 🤦🏽♀️🚩
The only good Vine TH-camrs are Danny Gonzalez and Drew Gooden.
Edit: And Kurtis Conner. I looked him up and it said he was a former Viner.
When I was younger I saw these kinds of videos, and even I knew it was weird and gross. Thankfully I understood it was weird so I just went outside and played with dolls and ate dirt like any growing child should.
Im so happy i grew up watching vsauce and other youtubers that actually make u think
that poor dog in the video, i love aussies, and they don’t deserve that :,-(
This is off topic from the video, but I have to say, I’m glad you moved your channel in the direction it is.
Honestly as someone who was exposed t sexual things at a young age through youtube, it made me traumatized and disgusted by it, idk why exactly tho
I WAS WATCHING THIS WHEN MY 9 YEAR OLD SISTER CAME HOME AND THE FIRST THING SHE PUT ON WAS BRENT RIVERA 😭
This is just R-rated films for children
Love the video!! This style is so great for your channel
Your editing keeps getting better and better. I'm proud of you and your video quality
He’s always made me uncomfortable I don’t get a good vibe from him personally
Thats soo effin creeepyyyyy what the actual fudgeeee
He has a weird obsession with his sister.
As someone who had early access to the internet , I can confirm , I definitely would've watched that video
The disgusting things on TH-cam have scarred my developing young brain for ever..
For me and my friends it was American pie type movies, I see nowadays kids get to unlearn toxic bs from brent type youtubers
Was not expecting to see Drew Golden in the first 10 minutes 😅
He used to be funny when Vine was at its peak of popularity, aka 2014.
this man is perpetually stuck in 2014 imo
Just gotta say I love your style of humor the little nod and cheering after “women can own cars after all” absolutely killed me 😭
This is why my 7 year old won’t be allowed to watch TH-cam until he’s a teenager
I've never seen someone so obsessed with their sister. This is truly disturbing.
Bro I discovered Pinely recently and his sense of humor is impeccable
same!
The music you often use in your videos reminds me of the modnation racers soundtrack specifically the mod spot track… which makes me very happy thank you
You make high quality videos at an impressive pace.
It adds this sense of obligation so that as he promotes any brand/channel thing, his subscribers are urged to participate/buy in and these kids have no idea how it affects their view on women, sexuality, what's appropriate in a normal setting
It could easily be 100x more dangerous when you think of how that very format is what shane dawson did to put kids in horribly inappropriate situations and the worst od the worst, how onion buy literally groomed children with this format.
I didn't know someone could be a professional lie detector guy.
As an older sibling, this absolutely disgusts me. He is a weirdo.
I used to be a fan of him when I was like 10-11 , now I still watch his sister and some of his friends who are funnier ,I kind of got addicted to them since I was so used to him since I was a child . Though I now take these videos with a grain of salt ofc and only watch them if I’m like really bored
that lie detector guy is such a sellout 😭😂
This is totally intentional to lure curious young teens and kids, and he knows that they are going to watch and get more views of it so he doesn’t care if those are children
I love how Pinely’s laptop cover is slowly falling in the background
These videos messed me up when I was younger.
