I was vaguely aware of the merch and TV show but I never truly comprehended how big the Annoying Orange empire grew until now. I had absolutely no clue they were still making videos.
I've been aware of the show and merch. But yeah I thought they ended making videos awhile ago
I'm in the same boat. I feel disoriented learning how much was involved in this thing.
It’s like the Garfield merch thing but there was never anything, ANYTHING, appealing about the original.
Garfield has become a memetic god in a way people enjoy- the annoying Orange is a memetic god that we do not speak of out of disgust and irritation.
I found out about the TH-cam channel when the show was announced... and I never understood why it existed at all.

Weirdest thing about that cartoon show is one of my family members worked on it so we all had to watch it as a show of support for them. It was incredibly awkward and a lot of people were off put by the voices and effects. You still can spot her in one of the behind the scenes clips to this day I think. Imagining part of your legacy as the annoying orange show is certainly.. interesting. But she said the pay was good so.

I got my pinkie crushed in a really heavy gym door when I was in elementary school, and had to get pretty substantial stitches for it. During the procedure, I was completely awake and thrashing around bc 1. I was in pain and 2. I was a child, but my mom put on annoying orange on her phone to help calm me down bc she knew I liked it. Thank you Orange for getting toddler me through emergency surgery, I'll never forget it

This brings me back to when I was like 10 watching Annoying Orange all the time. I still stand by the early videos (not proudly), but at a point I jumped ship even as a kid. I remember watching the show they had on CN (holy shit I just remembered Tobuscus was in it lol) and after a while I could just feel that the AO I loved was gone. It was ruined with corporate greed and decayed as a result, but that's a dime a dozen nowadays.
Tobuscus wasn't just in it, he was the best part of that god forsaken show
i remember there being jokes way back in the day about no one knowing if Marshmallow was a boy or a girl, and for them to take that now and seriously legitimately make Marshmallow nonbinary...idk i kinda respect that. it would be so easy to just go down the route of the old "Pat" sketches from SNL and just make everything about the character a joke about "boy or girl??? i must know!!!" but they decided to turn those kinda jokes into representation for young kids. kinda cool i think. yeah, it's not gonna be the best thing out there in terms of representation, but it's not like it came outta nowhere.
The fact that baby pinely had a genuine interest in this terrible orange is adorable, especially when he visited the states.
Also maybe you can replace the batteries?

My mental exhaustion at hearing when the Annoying Orange TV show was greenlit sticks with me lmao. I never liked the thing even as a kid, and how it reflected on my feelings that cartoon network had gone to crap really sealed the deal lmao
I despised this show as a child. As soon as I heard the theme song, I changed the channel. The Annoying orange was definitely Annoying.

yea that's how i felt too. there's not a lot of trans/nonbinary rep out there for kids, so this seemed like pretty decent rep for a younger audience, so i'll take it.
I find it impressive how they were able to translate the unbearable obnoxiousness of the character in written form.

the "disgusting" aesthetic is a holdover from the '80s for sure. I grew up with things like Ah! Real Monsters, Ren & Stimpy, Rocco's Modern Life, Whatever Happened to Robot Jones?, Cow & Chicken, and I R Baboon on TV in the '90s. while some of these (Ah! Real Monsters and Ren & Stimpy) had a definite gross-out factor to their animation, traditionally pretty animation was seemingly railed against at the time. I remember my mom expressing some level of distaste towards Action League Now and even Rugrats and Rocket Power, the former for having some gross situations (I vaguely remember a toy being rescued from a toilet) and the latter for being not super duper polished looking. I think even some of the '00s cartoons like Camp Lazlo hold onto that spirit.
all this and I'm not even mentioning the toys like the Creepy Crawlers Bug Maker or Madballs.
I feel like Home Movies falls into this as well with the squigglevision and all.

I had one of those plastic annoying Orange talking toys a really long time ago; one of my relatives gave it to me. It broke one day in the same way yours did. It ended up scaring the shit out of me and I thought it was haunted lmao. One day I put it in my closet and didn’t see it there a few days later. I still have no idea where it is. The spirit of annoying orange haunts me now.

It's pretty shocking to see the AO brand still remaining such a powerhouse, stuff like their gaming channel being massively popular with kids especially. I remember liking the main channel when I was a kid and I feel so old realizing the first video was all the way back in 2009. Very weird to see them branch off the way it did, realizing it was made by a company that specializes in making viral stuff kinda ruins the magic it once had though I will admit.

ok so english isn't my first language and when i was a kid i remember seeing the translation of the original "annoying orange" video cause pretty much everybody was watching it and sharing it with each other. and i assumed it was just this one funny video like i'm pretty sure back then i didn't even know what youtube is. now i'm twenty something randomly stumbling upon this channel and finding out not only that this short video from my childhood was originally in english but that it also had so much impact i wasn't aware of at all. i... need to sit down and think for a moment. this is insane.
I didn't watch the TV show, but I've gotta say, the "terrible" clips, I actually got a good chuckle out of. I'd say it's less "random" and more taking a ludicrous concept and running with it. But, maybe I just really love absurd stuff like this that is just basically silly and is imaginative without taking itself too seriously. But I realize I'm in the minority with this... For example I loved all six episodes of "Outer Space Astronauts" and I would be shocked if anyone else here has even heard of that show.
I always forget I am way too old to be watching all my favorite TH-camrs LOL. Nothing makes me feel older than someone saying they were 10 in 2009.

Lord this takes me back because I remember the first annoying orange video coming out. I was subbed to daneboe, I found his microwaving peeps video and I still think about it every Easter. I'll admit that i subbed to the orange channel, I was 11 and loved it and I can not fathom why. Not long after it got really big I stopped paying attention to it but idk if I should be concerned that I remember it's premier, like it became a core memory
I remember there was a web sketch series from Québec called "Têtes à claques" with the exact same concept, except the eyes and mouth were on dolls instead of fruit. It went viral in the province, only it was in 2006 and Annoying Orange came out in 2009...

I'm so glad I experienced this horrific orange! Mostly importantly I am glad I liked both Annoying Orange and VeggieTales. Luckily somehow I never remember seeing the toys as a child though I watched the Cartoon Network show and TH-cam stuff like that one time Annoying Orange played Minecraft.

My largest exposure to Annoying Orange was probably the show, mainly because Tobuscus was in it and my sister and I were fans of him. I know now how I acquired my ADHD and sensory processing disorder.

if it's the scott shaw i'm thinking of then fun fact, he drew the pencils for the original archie sonic miniseries that the main comic was then based on. his art in that is genuinely fantastic, some of the best in the history of the entire comic in fact, and that's not a compliment i give lightly when the series also includes the likes of pat spaziante, evan stanley, and adam bryce thomas

Honestly, this kind of product I’m fine with… why? Idk, but it seems to be more genuine then most things created by TH-camrs like Mr. Beast Burger
Edit: Now that I’m thinking, it’s probably because it’s literally just marketing. There were no big “media” attention of scams, no dumb publicity, not just videos becoming corporate and done worse or even bad movie adaptation.
Ofc it eventually became a bit worse or whatever but that was kind of it’s charm to begin with, bad still frames of fruit and weird plots. They didn’t “grow up” with the people who made it big; they just became big and stayed there and it became many things like toys and actual kids content.
AO also didn’t abuse the attention/algorithm of TH-cam that kids brought just like most kids channels-like Mr.Beast-do. They just kept to themselves which surprisingly kept it steady for many years. It’s not what it once was (and it’s definitely not force fed to people like Minions or Star Wars) and that’s kind of respectable honestly.

Man, I think I watched that first video right around the time it came out, or maybe when it first started to pop off. I'm not really sure how I found out about it (I was under 10 and not really on the internet yet), but I remember the video and remember watching it with my mom, for some reason, or showing it to her. I watched some of the other early ones as well, like with the tomato, but then I never really continued. I half forgot about it until my little brother (who is 9 years younger than me) started getting really into their videos when he was maybe 8 years old, and my mom noticed that there were some things in there that she thought were inappropriate for him to be watching. I also totally forgot about the "knife" bit, LOL what a dive into the memory banks!
But I never knew just how big the empire got, or even that it was an empire at all! I appreciate this video for sure.

That “TOY TOY TOY TOY” ad is verging on “pester power,” or ad campaigns that function on getting kids to annoy their parents until they buy the toy. If I recall correctly, pester power is illegal in many places.
My favourite Annoying Orange episode was the one where they came up with theme songs for the main cast. Looks like the tune for Orange's theme got used for the TV show
I'm 32. I've never really been great on having a craze. I don't even remember this craze when it was happening. The first time I noticed it was on someone's social network. After they seriously assaulted me. I looked on their online profiles and the stated interests annoying orange and Hitler books.

Annoying orange is something that I mostly skipped past, but did watch a few of the originals. I was happy to forget it, but you did me dirty by showing up in my recommended.
Fun fact: The series creator has since also come out as nonbinary after Pinelys video came out. So the earnestness of that Marshmallow segment could definitely be read as being a bit personal.

like, as a person who was deep in the ~teh randomz~ humor at its zeitgeist, i am aware of its, uhhh..... let's call them "shortcomings." that said, i still think it CAN work with good timing and deliberate placement. invader zim comes to mind.
