- DIY- how to plaster and get a professional finish
So in this video I got the plaster on the walls on the inside of my log cabin garden room. This isn’t the first time I’ve done my own plastering so I’ve got my own technique and methods when applying plaster to my walls. It’s a job that any diyer can do, with a little experience and practice you can get a professional finish on your plaster.

I dream of this level of plaster mastery. I have a very big project I am looking to tackle!
Thanks Tom, clearly explained and showcased how to get a great finish! I have saved your video for when I'll tackle my first plastering job at home 👌
Cheers mate, good luck with your project 👍
Excellent video mate. As a self taught DIY plaster I would like to point out a few tips which to help not only yourself but also others. When mixing plaster a full bag will cover 10sq metres with 2 coats. For that you need approximately 12 litres of water per bag for the perfect mix. Use half a bag with 6 litres of water to begin with. When
Starting out I tried mixing by trial and error and it’s not easy. Another tip which will not only make less mess but will make plastering so much easier is to use the hawk to scoop the plaster on the trowel and not the other way round. I started of doing exactly the same way as demonstrated in the video but you tend to drop plaster when starting out.
I’ll defo try them tips out, I’m converting half my shed for a work space for the ball and chain to run her business from so I’ll try them out pretty soon. 👍
@@Thetomrichardson glad they were of help. I really enjoy plastering and it’s so satisfying when you end up with a nearly professional finish and all its cost is a couple bags of plaster and a bit of your time. Looking forward to seeing your next project
Speedskim by Ox for the win.
Hi speedskim helps a lot, run it over the walks to flatten in the first coat. On the don't go into the edge with a big load of plaster to much to keep them neat
I’ll look into getting a speedskim 👍
Thanks for a great tutorial, like all plasterers you make it look easy lol, I've just done a wall in my kitchen, but I've only done one coat, didn't know you had to put two coats on. I can see now how shit my job is, can you put a second coat on after it's dried !!! Thanks.
Pva the wall first and re skim
It’s all about practice, I’m by no way a pro and I’m always learning and trying to improve. Just pva/water the wall and give it another go 👍
Pva and re do it with 2 coats
U need a proper bucket trowel
Got a new one, I’d lost my old faithful a few years back so I’ve been using that thing
Mate i dont know what your doing with the ceiling but you wont be able to tie in the walls without scrim taping and plastering down the walls again.
We’ve put cladding on the ceiling as putting plasterboards up would have added too much weight and could have caused the roof to sag overtime 👍
Fill your beeds first
I’ll try that next time, thanks
