I agree your not a plasterer till you can float and set, but you have two solid edges too rule off, so your only following the existing. Not doing a wall from start to finish

If you're right handed, you float right to left. Not left to right.... This is because you are tying in the bonding with the existing bonding... Surely every plaster should know this. Skimming is left to right..

I’ve noticed certain brands arnt as tacky or fray on ends, old wives tale is to put it in microwave for a minute, not tried it, I run them in with my mix if it won’t stick, it’s a bit of a ball ache but scrim tape’s important to stop cracking

i cut render mesh into strips on stuff like this, scrim is crap nowadays, the amount of doorways i come across that cracked because the scrim has failed, first thing the customer does is blame the previous plasterer, so i use mesh to cover my arse
@@PlasteringForBeginners im working on a timber structure house at the minute, built in the 70s , wood works rubbish, any joints i look at and think yeah thats gonna crack, i just inbed mesh, customers always quick to blame the plasterer, i like an easy life so this was my get out of jail card, works every time,
What !!! Bonding is used only on low suction backgrounds, browning is used in high suction backgrounds. And a blind man could do what he's doing. Hes using a straight edge on existing walls to get the wall flat. How about floating a whole wall from scratch. All these so call experts never show that because they are not proper plasterers.
It drags the wet bonding coat into the skim coat and makes a mess, always wait until your bonding coat is firm enough, just like Blaine’s just showed you

Help… We’ve bought an old house and just found that under the wallpaper we’re removing is hardboard - wooden board with a slightly bobbly textured surface, it was used to cover the insulation. Problem is it wasn’t sealed in any way - they just glued wallpaper on top. Couple of questions I’d really appreciate help with - we don’t have much cash so can’t hire pros! 1) what’s the best way to get the old wallpaper off? Some came off ok, other bits are very stuck. Can we wet it or will that damage the board? 2) what primer should we use before plastering? Or just PVA? Many thanks if anyone can help

Hi Blaine. I've been plastering the outside of my house with HP12 base coat. I'm a total novice learning as I go. The issue I'm having is when I rule the cement coat is tearing. I'm I not leaving it long enough or or is it the base coat I'm using. I have a brand new feather edge Ive been using and I've 12mm straps of wood nailed to the wall to keep my cement coat even. Any help would be much appreciated thank you. 👍👍

Hoping to properly plaster the other walls now, but what would you recommend for the walls that are basically soft with easifiller? Do I need to scrape back to the originals walls if I wanted to plaster them properly or is the best option going to be lining wallpaper over the easyfill layer? (They are currently painted but looking quite ripply in some lighting!)

Just curious why you use your feather edge upside down?? Flat side up works much better and fits the hand perfectly. Been doing this trade when it was used all day every day give it a try

Check for asbestos first then you can either go back to stud over overboard , I usually overboard as it's easy and alot cleaner

do you think the devil float is 100% necessary? I’ve found plaster binds to bonding just as well (over small areas) without it.

roller for flat smooth walls, brush for wall with crevices and awkward bits
Roller doesn’t get in angles right or behind pipes

Can you put bonding with a roller
U can put pva on with a roller, many plasterers call pva ing “ bonding
Not tried it to be fair. But you won’t get thicknesses like this so I wouldn’t recommend it mate
