  • Our amazing diy Log cabin garden room is finished and completed
    This is our log cabin garden room that we purchased here in the uk from wickes, it’s the shire Danbury model and is 12ft x 12ft in size. There is other companies that build similar products such as dunster house etc. This is a full diy project from start to finish and I’m going to show you some of the good things and bad things about doing a self build log cabin garden room here in the uk. I’ll be doing a separate video on the cost and the full bill price in another video so be sure to check that out.

    Brilliant little series mate, enjoyed watching it all. I've ordered mine from dunster and I'm hoping to do something similar soon. These videos should be really helpful so thank you!

      Thanks, just make sure you take into account the expansion and contraction of the wood, its expanded quite a lot during the winter so far

    Amazing job. Can i ask how you attached the internal studs tonallow for expansion? I cant work out how to build the stud frame internally without securing it to the walls, floor and roof.

      I used some 90 degree brackets to fix them to the outer walls, one half had a round hole that I screwed to the stud and the other half of the bracket had slot that I attached to the outer wall, the screw was center of the slot to allow movement either way, I screwed the stud to the floor without any brackets and didn’t attach the walls at all to the ceiling, it worked really well over the winter. The ceiling rose about 20mm and now the summer is back it’s gone back down to the position when installed, I haven’t had any cracking in the plaster at all.
      Thanks

    Hello, looks great. Have you calculated how much money you spent on this project, how many hours you worked from start to finish?

    What type of glass are in the windows and are the single/double? How thick are the “logs”?

    • @Thetomrichardson
      @Thetomrichardson  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Single pain glass and the timbers are 28mm thick

      @@Thetomrichardson how’s does affect the winter months? Even with the insulation, is the room still comfortable to use ?

    How has this felt in the Summer and Winter?

    • @Thetomrichardson
      @Thetomrichardson  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It seems to be holding up in the winter so far, had some really bad winds so sticking down with the felt adhesive has helped, it’s not the thickest felt so I’ll keep an eye on it. Thanks

    Don't you have any problems with water tracking underneath?

    • @Thetomrichardson
      @Thetomrichardson  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I foam filled the gaps and the sealed with silicone to make it weather tight, so at the minute it seems to be doing its job but time will tell

      @@Thetomrichardson thank you for replying, ours is on a concrete slab and had nothing but problems with it and driving rain underneath which will start rotting the bearers, i spent 100 quid on some siga house wrap and then a roll of edpm adhesive wrap membrane and it's stopped it getting in but... Everything i read has made me worried because you have to let it breath apparently, and i am yet to insulate between the bearers, ive noticed even with dpm down there's moisture on the floor, i think its probably the air condensing on the dpm because the concrete is warmer than the timber and hopefully it will go when I insulate it? I just worry about having moisture trapped underneath rotting the bearers because it will be sealed. I have no idea why they tell you to do it like that because its not the best

      Everything I've read points to having as much air flow undeneath as possible without going over 2.5m and to consider composite/plastic bearers instead of treated wood
