    Looking forward to watching this video. I love the fact that someone like you exists and want to make these tests so we have it easier to decide what to buy with our money! 🙏 And as everybody else in your comment sections, I ordered a Motion Boom, (and trance go) and will get them tomorrow, looking forward to listening. Upgraded from my Bose Soundlinklink 3 that has been faithfully by my side for 5 years 😁 cheers from Sweden!

    I'm a singer songwriter producer in the music industry and have quite a few different speakers that I use for mixing. I have the bass side of things covered , but truthfully the honesty and clarity in the motion plus is just lovely. I bought my second one that as they really help with my mixes. I use the custom eq to get the bass in that sweet spot where I need it & with 2 I'm now very happy. The slave one actually stays on the custom eq, I notice that you said somewhere that it goes back to the bass setting, very strange but I'm not complaining lol. The motion boom for outdoors partying etc will be better especially if you just want loudness and bass, but for what I use them for they're perfect. You're truly great at what you do. I see your passionate so keep going. Thanks again. God bless

    • @alanrossreviews
      @alanrossreviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yes the motion plus still holds up if its limitations are understood. there is still nothing like it at the price with those wide dispersion tweeters angled out. it has been though many software fixes. they should now both play custom eq when custom eq is set on master but for safety you should make sure both have been set individually with the same custom eq. i think it was that if you switch to bassup then turn bassup off it revert to the bassoff mode rather than custom mode even if custom was the previous mode 👌

    For me the tradeoff is easy to make, I want the fuller bass and can sacrifice some mid range clarity as I am not concerned with full hi-fi outside. The boom has great highs compared to some others in the price range and even sounded better that the motion+ in the 45% test, with no dedicated tweeters.

    They should make an opportunity to connect the motion + with motion Boom. It will be a great combo with clarity and heavy bass. Don't see any technical difficulties for Anker to do this via software. Just can't understand why they could not be connected at the moment.
    Maybe someone has experience with their customer service about this question?

    • @Currywurst4444

      Some phones now support two connected bluetooth devices. You wont ever want to play the right channel on one and the left channel on the other speaker if the speakers are different so you dont really need that feature inside the box.
      You can try to play the same audio on a boom and motion+. You get slightly better sound but you have to carry two speakers with you.
      Its probably better to use 2 spaced soundcore boom then. The stereo stage between the speakers will give you more clarity than what you would get from the tweeter with 1 motion+ and 1 boom.
      The optimal solution would be to use 2 motion+ and 1 boom as a quasi subwoofer. If you want a manufacturer supported solution like that you might want to look at Mini rig.

    The speaker test I think most of us have been waiting for, thank you. I'm still in the plus camp because I live in a small flat and can't really own a speaker with too much bass. Yes the plus could do with a touch more bass but the clarity is what wins it for me. From what I hear, the boom lacks the clarity the plus brings to the battle.

    • @alanrossreviews
      @alanrossreviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      you can push the clarity but while its clearer with eq the highs are not quality and are recessed compared to the plus, but its the overall sound and how it gels that means the boom gets away with it. small flat is an issue but as its more deep bass then upper bass not quite the issue you would have with speakers like the d8. hope all good with you.

    Once again watching this review.
    Definitely as many people said before me those two seem to be made to work together, unfortunately they aren't😒, we probably have to thank the marketing guys for this decision.
    But still, watching your intro, it makes me imagine some kind of rig where you would stack one of each , the size matches the loudness too.
    It would not beat your new champ Tribit Blast, but it would also be half the weight, and probably more pleasing than the motion boom plus ?

    After running chain saws and heavy equipment for years, going to concerts and being right in front of the speakers, its not all about the lows or the highs for me anymore, adding the tweeters really makes the decision for me. I need the vocals front and center or its a muddled mess. Is it just me or does the Motion plus sound distorted at max volume? Both in the video and In real world tests I hear some distortion. My motion plus also does it though I just recently noticed it. I don't know if my unit is faulty and just started distorting or if it's always been like that. I played it at full volume at work one night and from what I could hear it took it like a champ with little to no distortion, now whenever I play it above 80% volume for a few minutes, it distorts things like bass drum kicks. Busier, more crowded parts of tracks where there's a lot going on also start to sound grainy and crackly.

    • @alanrossreviews
      @alanrossreviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      if its distorting where it never sued to distort that would be a real issue. distorting at 100% would be expected if you have pushed bass in custom. its only really a problem imho if it bothers you and if it sounds like its amp clipping rather than driver limits and you play at max for extended periods.

There was no audible distortion that i was aware of that night I pushed it to 100% volume. The distortion doesn't seem to take place right away either. I start playing music and about 5 min in at around 70% volume is when the issues arise in the form of certain bass notes distorting and crowded tracks becoming very grainy and almost broken up. I've also noticed what almost sounds like volume fluctuations in certain frequencies in said crowded tracks. Some frequencies sound muted for half a second before returning to normal. Along with odd volume fluctuations in general. I honestly think I may have gotten another faulty unit. I'm not sure but I did the checking on my own way and I think the crossover for the tweeter is around 2 khz probably more like 1.8 khz so the tweeters are handling more mids and vocals that's why the vocals are really nice in the motion+ ... it rolls of in the high-end quick maybe because if it would go further all the time then the shimmering sparkling would be too much ... anyway it does go further from 12 khz in real world tracks in your tests and does not seem off with its sound ... but deep bass on boom is on another level ... I also think the same about the hi-res thing you explained just sounds smoother and a little bit more going on in the tracks but never experienced it where I can say it's a significant difference ... better and wider sampling rate can make difference like you said

    • @alanrossreviews
      @alanrossreviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      yeah i think thats the bottom line that it really takes more than double the sampling rate to fully reproduce a given frequency so 44.1khz isnt really enough to fully replicate the higher frequencies even to 20khz. so sampling rate is the real benefit. interesting about the crossover, lower than i expected. soundcore are really missing a trick now allowing the a boom and a plus to be paired 🤪

    How come at 100% volume the peak loudness is different on every video where pair of motion+ are featured? Is it so track dependent or? I am wondering cause judging by this video two m+ are as loud as my JBL partybox310 which isn't true (I've got two m+ too). Also, what does dB(C) actually stand for?

    • @alanrossreviews
      @alanrossreviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      the peak loudness is for the actual track used. do not compare past peaks, the peaks are a relative measure between speakers at the time they were recorded. i used to use no weighting for peaks now i use c weighting. peak is not a measure of overall loudness, it is an instantaneous loudness, actually not even that, it is a measure of sound pressure level. also you cannot compare peaks in the way you are trying to. my measurement is in a highly treated sound room, in a typical room or even outside the peak will be different. the device you are playing from will also have an effect, any eq you are using will have an effect. however having said all that what is the peak you are getting on your partybox and what are you playing to get that peak? the best way to get comparisons would be using pink noise. the trouble is lots of these speakers are bass heavy and playing bass heavy tracks will give a different result than playing pink noise. so basically im saying this is not a good way to compare loudness between speakers in seperate tests unless you are outside any reasonable margins.

    • @alanrossreviews
      @alanrossreviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not pointlessly if you understand the measurements. So the 109 db is definitely a peak rating? I would want to know at what distance, via what device, in what room or outdoors, using what measurement instrument and playing what track or test tone. Then you can start to make conclusions. Also when you measure peak you should get the option to measure fast or slow. I really hope the measurement wasnt made using a phone app 😁😁

    Hello Alan
    Thank you for your excellent reviews.
    In an easy world I would be buying a Rocksteady Stadium system with 4 satellites and a subwoofer as you recommended in your review. (not that cheap though)
    But in a complete fantasy world I would even prefer having a pair of motion boom and a pair of motion plus working together: they seem more pleasant and fun to the ear and they are more outdoors indoors moving friendly, finally we are 4 in our family and they could be splitten individually or gathered in the living room , on top of this they are cheaper.
    Of course I know we don't leave in such a world .
    Or are we ?
    You say in your reviews you are using a Samsung Galaxy S10+, have you, by any chance, tried to use the dual audio streaming capability of Samsung phones to stream audio to a TWS paired pair of motion booms and a TWS paired pair of motion pluses at the same time ?

    I got both the motion boom and d8 right on time. Usually i get my stuff from spanish amazon since i dont have to pay for shipping to Portugal (i paid 80 for each. At the beggining of the week a motion boom could be had for 70 euros on german amazon but with the shipping for Portugal they would be more expensive) and right now they expect to have stock of the motion boom only at the end May. The d9 is now out of stock. Probably due to the boom stock being so late.
    I am now even more interested in getting the d9 out of curiosity. Would you say it is a stepback from the d8 no matter wich firmware? By only looking at your graphs it seems like it is much come balanced in the bass or at least not as lacking on that department.
    I like the boom but i do agree with what other people said, sometimes i wish it had tweeters as well. Yes it is true that the boom keeps better composure until it hits max volume but it is also true that it does not go that loud (i know its basically mids and highs and a screechy sound overall but i perceive the + as being the loudest. The same of course applies to the d8 but its a 50w speaker so no surprises here). There are tracks in wich for me it is noticeable that some highs and mids are missing on the boom. I get that a lot on rock and metal specially. For instance on offsprings “self esteem” and blink 182’s “all the small things” i feel like the d8 as the edge when it comes to electric guitars, they sound a bit more visceral and lively. Also on a couple of more vocal track i perceive that despite not very natural the d8 gives more emphasis to the vocalists. They feel closer and clearer. But of course the boom always wins on the bass and i would even risk to say that the overall balance of the boom is better than the hk go play i have as well despite not being as loud. Although, indo sometimes also feel that the bass is too much on low and medium volume listens (i am using your instagrams eq) and that it messes a bit with the mids, highs and overall sound separation.
    I do agree that the motion boom and + are complete opposites in everything. One offers portability and clarity while the other offers powerfull sound (the d8 to my ear sounds closer to the motion + than the boom. The sound of the d8 is a bit more full than on the + but considering the size i think the motion + is still very impressive).
    Edit: My comment was written before having completed to watch the video.... You certainly addressed some of the points i mention here like the eq and and the vocals. :D Do you have a eq for more moderate volumes by the way? Cheers :)

    2 motion booms paired or 2 W King t9 paired? which is better?

    • @alanrossreviews
      @alanrossreviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      define better? they are very different and will depend on what you are looking for. t9 does not do deep bass, the boom does.

    I watched the review for the motion boom in TWS compared to the onyx before in the afternoon and thought that the motion boom in TWS would be lovely against its older sibling, motion plus in TWS. And here I am in the night watching this, after subscribe to your channel, appear in my home feeds, didn't realize you already made the review that I want to see.
