With just a few tweaks, like simple outlines and simplified textures for coins, pink bois, etc... this would be an excellent version of the game for regular use.
Honestly if you replace the textures with 3D models it does look kinda pretty

They should have just taken the textures and simplified them...
I would say only for the flat items
This minimalist style looks pretty great and somethin similar to it could work for an indie game or somethin
It looks pretty cool, but I think to really nail the look, it should use textures sparingly. Flat color textures of course, but entities shouldn't be flat out invisible.
My guess is that the colors default to what color the texture has most and I'm guessing the bowser puzzle is 15 different objects which is why it does that
