Fall to the caged island is actually easier in the DS version, they give you quite a bit of space to land in. You can also use the OP Luigi backflip
Probably helps if they patched the visual angle not matching the real angle. Going off in a random direction was what made the N64 version hard.

I can see how it would be harder when you can't see the platform
you can't reach it with a backflip, but you can with a triple jump dive

@@vtmagno23 Just backflip from the top of the fortress (star 2).
So, about that Boo with Luigi's cap that's stuck in the wall; If I remember correctly, -and I probably don't because it's been a long time since I actually played any version of SM64- enemies in this game don't respawn. However, if you're playing as Yoshi and lose your cap, it reappears wherever you first got it which also means that the enemies that had them respawn along with it.
My guess is that this Boo is stored there so it can be copied over to its regular location once you unlocked the cap rather than the Boo just being moved there. That's why it doesn't disappear.
problem is the Cap doesn't drop from a Boo you find it randomly
@@ChaoticJester Then maybe what we are seeing was their original idea of having a Boo keep the cap as a refference to Luigi's Mansion.
Yoshi is incapable of killing Boos and can not enter Big Boo's Haunt.

@@ChaoticJester Actually, it does drop from a Boo. When you go into the back room, you see the Mr. I and a Boo with a Luigi cap on it. All the game is doing is storing the two entities inside the wall(where it can't be collected or killed) and then when a character(other than Luigi) loses the cap, it tells the game that it needs to summon a clone of that Boo with a cap mounted onto it.

the watch for rolling rocks star wasnt removed you just need to use a mega mushroom and break some rocks as they fall
The way I did it was just used Wario to just punch every rock in the way. If a rock came down, I just b**** slapped it with Wario.

Watch for rolling rocks still exists, it's just more cleverly hidden- you have to punch one of the infinitely respawning rolling boulders the star is hiding in as Wario, which will put the star in the center of the hall. Honestly, it's way more rewarding than just doing a side flip onto a little ledge.
You can either punch the rocks as Wario or use the Mega Mushroom to smash them

Nah, desmume is pretty awful in comparison to PN64, Dolphin and RPCS3.

All of the changes make it actually easier, especially after unlocking Luigi, and it doesn't help when you mod the game to make it where you can't even see the cage or the island in general in the first place.

In the DS version, fall on the caged island is actually easier as they made the platform bigger, it was only hard for you because you kept landing on the cage and couldn't see the platform

New fan theory: the real Luigi was eaten by that boo. They play the old switcheroo and the one you get to play as is a boo disguised as Luigi, that's why he gets the vanish ability

No, it's just that a certain rock has it. You can just punch one rock as Wario with no mushroom needed and still get it.
The stick on the n64 controller also had 12 directions.
The ds just has 8, if you play it it is not that bad.
Galaxy’s controls have also technically 8 directions, same as sunshine
that's not the only problem. The D-Pad is atrocious for 3D movement (yes, I did play it on the OG NDS)
Even with real controllers in emulators, it feels incredibly off in comparison to SM64 (though besides that, the NDS remake is better in almost every single way)
Sm64 with no textures was confusing because everything had textures, they were just white. Thx for actually doing this.
Also I think I know why bowsers painting isn't there, it's simply static and behind peaches painting, then peaches painting fades out to reveal bowsers painting.
And I also think I know why luigi's hat is there with the boo. It's significantly harder to make 3d models simply disappear than teleport them, so I believe that is where they go instead of disappearing. Other objects are low poly and are affordable to have disappear such as coins and mr. I, but the boo and cap are higher resolution than everything else in the stage. This just makes sense because they are the only high poly models that are small enough to fit and end up disappearing during gameplay.

I think the boo and the cap is there to save memory, thats why only appears when you kill it, so he transports there to save memory when you encounter other is transported to the new location

As I first played the game I didn't know that you only could fight him as Mario... as I spoke to him my game just gave up and crashed but as I tried again with yoshi it didn't crash. That was weird

When you've played SM64 for so long you can memorize each map.
You should do this with everything visible but mario so you have to use stuff like his shadow to find out his location.
That would be a great idea instead of everything around Mario being invisible, it would be Mario himself that’s invisible

You don't need to navigate the hazy maze in the DS port- if you go down the elevator to where Dory lives with Luigi there's a red box there- if you grab the flower inside and turn invisible, you can take the elevator back up and have just enough time to walk through the metal wall to the hazy maze star

That's really weak.
Not sure how much easier it would've made that star but the slide star in Tall Tall Mountain is actually blocked off by a cage wall. That means you can grab a power flower as Luigi and backflip through it while you're invisible. That's also possible with that one Wet Dry World star using the falling wood planks and the Owl Cage star in Whomp's Fortress.
TetraBitGaming: In tall tall mountain you can still cheese it as luigi, you just have to get the power- flower at the very top of the moutain first and fall back down to just above where it his, and go through the cage before vanish luigi where off, if you want a quick ride to the top of the tall tall mountain their his an howl in a tree at the start, but its only their after your done the second stars, if that method would have been for a speed run .

If the final Bowser arena was made invisible,
does that mean in the tree challenge, the stage would be a tree?
Or would the parts that fall off be trees?
The moving platforms would be trees, but the invisible geometry would still be solid.

The star cage was made easier because they create a giant platform you can drop onto meaning easier to aim.
I like that you called Whomp's Fortress "Whomp's Nothing".
This sounds like the next best thing to being blind folded.
You could even do "Can you beat Super Mario 64 but on paper?". I mean, a computer program is just maths, so in theory you can run one with pen, paper, and maths. The source code is even reverse engineered now for the game so that makes this far more possible. Granted... in reality it would probably take weeks of incredibly tedious work just to proceed a single frame and it wouldn't be at all fun to "watch", so this idea is far more silly than practical, but it's definitely not impossible in theory.
Finally, someone's reconizing the DS version.

on star 3 in BBH there is a boo with a luigi cap on the lower floor. The boo is stored there on other stars for being accessible on star 3

I actually never knew that, in either the original version or this version, that you're supposed to roll the log towards the star. I always thought you were supposed to long jump over to it.
