    The White Scars, who call themselves the "Horde of Jaghatai" and were originally called the Star Hunters during the early Great Crusade, are a Loyalist Space Marine Chapter and one of the First Founding Chapters of the Adeptus Astartes.
    Known and feared throughout the Imperium of Man for their highly mobile way of war, the White Scars are considered the masters of the lightning strike and hit-and-run attack and are particularly adapted to the use of the Astartes Assault Bike as their mechanical steeds and their forces contain an unusually large number of Bike Squads compared to other Chapters.
    Bearing the ritual scars of bravery, these fierce warriors fight with all the tribal savagery that define the fierce steppe nomads of their homeworld Mundus Planus, known to them as Chogoris, bringing swift death to all of the enemies of the Imperium.

    1. Bows were always the weapon of choice for samurai. Katanas, like swords all across the world, are weapons of last resort and dueling, which coincidentally is the most interesting part of combat to write about in books and movies.
    2. White Scars like to fight orks because the Speed Freakz are the most similar to White Scars in combat. Drukhari have a speed focus, but prefer using cheap tactics, for instance.
    3. The White Scars were a legion created for the purpose of going out ahead of the Great Crusade and softening up the galaxy ahead of them. They were built to fight xenos, which is why they still prefer it.

    • @Bluecho4
      @Bluecho4 3 ปีที่แล้ว +47

      1. Yep. Samurai only developed a significant focus on the katana, culturally, during the years when they transitioned from warlords into landed gentry. When their place became the courts of a unified Japan, their relationship to weapons became romanticized, and few weapons were as romantic as a blade.
      2. I was just thinking that the Speed Freakz seemed like a fitting counterpart to the White Scars.

    If I remember correctly, while White Scars may shudder at the thought of being interred in a dreadnought, they don’t dislike those interred in them by default. From what I know, White Scar dreadnoughts are used almost entirely in the role of guarding fortress monasteries, especially the gene seed repositories. This role, as you can probably guess, doesn’t require speed, which makes it terribly boring for the average White Scar and perfect for a willing dreadnought.

    Something else: the part of the Imperial Truth that the Khan _really_ didn't like was lying to Humanity about the existence of the Dark Gods; the people of Chogoris knew _of_ them, and by extension so did he. So he really didn't appreciate something being called the "Truth" being based on a dangerous lie that would ultimately put more people at risk.

      @pub1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      @Naveen KV no. Xenos were all known. But he tried to hide the existance of the chaos gods as people cant worship what they dont know. Didnt exactly work though 😂

    • @blam320
      @blam320 3 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      @Naveen KV Not exactly. The Imperial Truth was basically state Atheism: there are no gods, period. The Emperor especially wanted to eradicate religion and worship because those activities feed the Dark Gods and other entities in the Warp.
      Because that's what they are: things in the Warp are thoughts and emotions given physical form; worshiping them just feeds them and makes them stronger. So Big E came out and said "there aren't any gods, and anything that lives in the Warp is just a feral animal." Big E's idea was that if everyone stopped worshiping the Chaos Gods, they would starve and the essence that made them would disperse back into the Immaterium.
      There were two major problems with that. First, the Chaos Gods are very, very powerful, and are able to influence people in the physical world to start new cults pretty much anywhere in the galaxy. Second: the Emperor, himself is also very, very powerful, to the point where people started worshiping _him_ as a god.

    • @blam320
      @blam320 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @Naveen KV That's exactly why Lorgar was publicly humiliated. That, and Lorgar's obsession with spreading his Emperor-worshiping religion to every planet he conquered meant he was the slowest out of all the Primarchs at bringing new worlds into the fold.

    • @blam320
      @blam320 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @Naveen KV It's the latter. Big E told Lorgar to quit worshiping him as a god multiple times, but Lorgar ignored him. That's mainly because Lorgar was raised on a planet that was filled with and ruled by super religious people (who actually worshiped the Chaos Gods, but unknowingly), and Lorgar adapted those beliefs before he was found by the Great Crusade, believing in one all-powerful god above all the others. So when the Emperor arrived, with his overwhelming aura and enormous psychic powers, Lorgar thought "I found him. By beliefs are all justified I found the one true god!"

      Learning about the war between the Japanese samurai and the Korean military it was interesting to see how the samurai had way better arquebus technology, and the Koreans relied on the bow and arrow, but the Koreans had better naval cannons due to the fact that the warring states period was almost exclusively a land war. The koreans won that war due to Admiral Yi continuously kiting the Japanese navy and avoiding direct boarding at all costs, because the samurai were extremely dengerous in direct combat. So that war had both the Samurai being masters of range and masters of melee on different fronts

      It was uncommon to see a samurai choose it as a main battlefield weapon without atleast a bow or lance but a pistol and rifle comparison is too much of a difference, a bow even the yumi is only gonna bruise you in armour at best and so a sword is the best option, spears are great too but they can be deflected by a samurai unless they are on horseback since the area of damage/stabby stab is drastically different and it's common for people to try and just move the spear away

    Anyways:
    Kor'Sarro is the current Master of the Hunt and Captain of the 3rd company.
    The Master of the Hunt, once every 25 years takes a look at the list of adversaries that they battled, but haven't exactly killed yet (Shadowsun for instance).
    During that time (the Rite of Howling), Kor'Sarro is free to enlist any company of White Scars in his service and go on a "Great Hunt" to kill the target on the list.
    He also sorta, kinda acts as Chapter Master now as Jubal is unfortunately crippled and permanently in a hospital bed after an invasion by the Red Corsairs onto Chogoris.
    - Rivalries:
    The White Scars and Raven Guard don't get along because of their opposite approaches to warfare. Tho since the Damocles campaign vs the T'au, Shrike and Kor'Sarro became friends and have been trying to get the 2 chapters closer together over time.

    • @DeathEatsCurry
      @DeathEatsCurry 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That rivalry thing always seemed odd. They really don't have opposite approaches *at all*. Both chapters focus on carefully observing their enemy, then making a calculated ambush/charge, and retreating if the fight isn't going their way. If anything, they should bond over the latter part, since most of the other chapters seem to despise that idea (specifically calling out the Scars for it). They have slightly differing approaches, with Scars emphasizing stealth and RG emphasizing stealth but.. They're probably the closer to each other than to *any other loyalist chapter*.
      I can see a friendly rivalry there, or maybe some mutual friction due to how the boisterous nature of the Scars might conflict with the quiet humble brooding of the Raven Guard but.. Let's be real, the RG have friction with EVERYONE in that respect, Corax is even called out for it in 'Raptor'.

    Generally speaking, the education and art things are also huge influences from the Mongol empire. Genghis Khan himself, interestingly enough, wasn't 100% all about atrocities like a lot of legend makes him out to be, but instead WAYYY more about establishing bureaucracy, organization, and stability. His bad rep is a mixture of historical fact, actions of affiliated generals and tag-along raiding armies, and the fact he mostly pissed off China who has enough cultural clout to rewrite the majority of Asian history. But more than conquest it was the unification of cultures all over Asia, and especially the appointment of fitting leadership such as local governors and ensuring regions were rebuilt to last. For comparison, other "great conquerors" of history like Hammurabi or Matthias Corvinus would die and immediately see their work undone by the failures of descendants and uprisings within a few decades. Genghis established an empire that lasted for over 90 years, and only divided into four parts after the death of his great-grandson. To say that the White Scars are a "less savage" Mongol deal is a bit misleading, since I'd say their speed demon bike warfare, crusades and campaigns against xenos, but understanding of the importance of not just tactical thinking but also long-term thinking for the sake of civilian life and strengthening themselves, just like the Mongolian Empire itself.

    So Fulgrim also had his sword of warp spaghetti when he fought Ferrus so I think there is room to argue at least he would have lost without it.
    But also I feel Sanguinis would be considered the other of the top three duelist over Kurze for the same reason. Hawk boy could also see the future.

    • @Ashtor1337

      Technically it wasn't Fulgrim that fought Ferrus. The demon had already taken over the body and locked sad boy in the painting. Even Horus called him out on it. Ferrus was fighting a a partially ascended demon primarch.

    • @Hawk_of_Battle
      @Hawk_of_Battle 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah I don't know what Bricky was chatting when he said Curze there, he's not even a swordsman. Very dangerous primarch sure, probably even top 3 in all round fighting skill, but for straight sword dueling it's definitely between the Lion, Sanguinius and Khan. As the Khan says himself, Fulgrim is too flashy for his own good, and yeah, did have a deamon blade when he killed Ferrus, but I'm not sure how much that helped really. I honestly don't think Ferrus was that great of a fighter compared to some others.
      We need some kind of tier list for primarchs, probably for multiple separate categories, as many of them are too different to be compared easily. Like, Leman Russ killed Magnus (well, mostly), but then Angron also beat the absolute fuck out of Russ, but simultaneously got surrounded and would have gotten dogpiled with overwhelming firepower had he landed a fatal blow, so it's kind of a win but also not? But then are we to assume that if Russ beats Magnus and Angron beats(?) Russ then does Angron beat Magnus, or do they have more of a rock/paper/scissors type effect?

    Essentially a man who was shunned by those he served and protected, untold battles and horrors faced in the deep reaches of the universe, always out of resupply and reinforcement range... yet always loyal even to an unthankful Imperium and when his closest friend and brother, one of the only Primarchs to truly see his value turned traitor.. he remained loyal.

    The back-and-forth between the Khan and Fulgrim is rather ironic. The Khan is so sure he would win because he thinks that Fulgrim treats everything as a game, but that mentality shows that he know about as much about Fulgrim as Fulgrim does about him. Fulgrim treats NOTHING as a game. He is an obsessive perfectionist, and he actually puts a concerted effort into being a masterful swordsman. Out of all the Primarchs, I think only Fulgrim, the Lion and the Khan take pride in being sword masters, while the others use a variety of melee weapons. On top of that, while the Khan likes going fast and using blitzkrieg tactics, Fulgrim actually is the fastest Primarch (Even his stat-line on tabletop agrees). If they actually did duel, the Khan would not have a good time.

To which leman said back “yes.”
    Also the explanation of why the space wolves see psykers differently is where fenris is and that it’s some sort of limbo between the warp where spiritual beings “like ghosts” can exist this was represented on the tabletop until 9th edition allowing you to summon the souls of freki and greki the thunder wolves that leman grew up with, and another interesting point is that the emperor himself cannot deny the funny stuff that happens of fenris and it even has him confused

    In my opinion the top 3 swordsmen and duelists of the Primarchs are between Fulgrim, Jaghatai Khan, and the Lion. Jaghatai is an accomplished swordsman with a fuck-ton of experience. He's a great strategist, tactician, and leader who absolutely deserves respect. Fulgrim is up there because he and his entire legion are built around the premise of perfection in all things. One of their most practiced disciplines is that of the sword. Hell, Fulgrim was a master of as many melee and ranged weapons as there are stars in the sky. He was also a very skilled strategist, tactician, and leader as well. Similarly to Jaghatai he encouraged study of the arts and practically mandated education so he and his legion are highly intelligent. He's kind of a Count Dooku scenario where he is "a fencer through and through" and combat is as natural as breathing, and he practically dances around his opponents. He may be a pretty boy and a bit of a fop, but he earned his boasts. The Lion is the Lion. Konrad Kurze could also likely go up there (considering he baited the Lion and Roboute while fighting them TPM Darth Maul style).

      (sourced from a book, a squad of space wolves was sent to help a city defended by sisters of battle against death guard foces lead by a random-ass sorcered called the Myconite.
