yo, Dorn is the one that rebuilt and brought the Phalanx back to life after he found it in the void. He gave it to the emperor as a gift of good will, which emps returned later to his legion
Hey guys, I was wanting to download the episode for while I'm at work. (Big fan btw) I was wondering when yall will make it download able! Much love from Missouri (pronounced Mi-sery)
The emperor didn't build the Phalanx, Dorn has it in Inwit when the emperor arrived, Dorn gave it to the emperor as a show of his pledge of loyalty, and the emperor immediately gave it back to him along with his new legion.
@@Tucker0603 this guy knows whats up. Dorn did not build the Phalanx. It was found in the nearby system as an abandoned relic from the dark age of technology.
Someone on reddit asked why Dorn's hair is different in every picture of him. I gave what I thought was a very reasonable response, he chooses the hairstyle that best supports the defense of his current location.
I wonder what products he uses to shield himself from being stinky. I assume it's high-grade stuff, and following this logic, Rogal Dorn must smell amazing.
Bricky: "He is a brick." Rogal: "I am not a brick, talkative one. A brick is an inanimate rectangular box-shaped building component of varying composition used in aggregate with other bricks and components to construct three dimensional structures. I, am a person."
“No.” -Rogal Dorn; The Vigliant, Praetorian of Terra, Blade of the Emperor, Lord of the Phalanx, Castellan of Inwit, Best Treehouse Architect in the Galaxy, Crusader of Useless Exposition, Lord Adorable, The Unyielding One and Primarch and Sire of the Imperial Fists Chapter The Horus Heresy: The Siege of Terra book 5: Saturnine Page 395
The idea of Dorn just standing at a work station, building and planning away, while his brothers around him disappear as time goes on just sounds devastating. With each loss, his head slumps just a little, his shoulders lower ever so slightly, until at the end he is just alone, holding his head in his hands, silently weeping, as all the loss and his guilt overcomes him. That's just painful.
Yeah, he definitely seems like the type of guy who bottles up his pain, and distracts himself with work. Until the work can no longer stave away the pain. "I have to be strong. My brothers rely on me. There's no point in weeping." Seems like something he would say to himself like a mantra. It starts off with conviction and grit, and ends with his voice cracking and whispery.
@@jocosesonata yup, that's kind of the reason why I hope eventually in at least the current swing of things with the indomitous crusade that he will make an appearance or at least have implications that he's probably still alive and helping his father's work
I also think rogal would be heartbroken to see what the imperium became as even though he was fanatically loyal to the emperor but he was also loyal to the emperor’s imperium and just seeing his father’s legacy become twisted like that would be awful. Honestly it might be a good thing he died in the 31 millennium cause at least some of his brothers still lived and the imperium didn’t become the husk it is now
That's what makes him so relatable and human to me. Under all his seriousness and stoicism, he's still a human being with emotions. He also reminds me of me a little - I was always the type of guy to really bottle up all my frustrations for the sake of not losing face in front of other people, even my own parents. Sometimes, I was just... really sad, sitting alone in my room or in private. I've cried alone, I've even cursed everything around me. But never in front of other people. Lately I've learned to let loose more, and use humor to cope with tense situations. I've become less like Dorn but at the same time - my seriousness for everything I've set out to do is still there.
@@stankobarabata2406 Thank you for sharing. This really endears Dorn even more to me, now that there's an actual person that relates to how he is like. He is strong, he is a wall, he will not break against the tides of war... But they do leave their mark.
if I recall right, Dorn actually is the only Primarch who was never at any point the victim of an attempt to corrupt him, Even Gulliman got that. Fulgrim mocks him, saying his walls are falling, his legion dying, and the fucker just says "No"
Fulgrim basically mocks him saying 'aww Rogal, aren't you going to tell me I can be saved' to which he responds 'no' and starts wailing on him with storms teeth.
That moment is why I love Dorn. The exchange between him and Fulgrim is such a great piece of writing and i'm convinced Dorn could have taken out Fulgrim there if it wasn't for his snakeification
@@JumbleMumble most likely. Fulgrim was a talented swordsman but he would probably toy and flaunt in his ego. Dorn would probably just bonk him with that chainsword second he could
Dorn treats everybody like they're a brick in the wall, he respects them, understands everyone is needed to hold the wall up, but also needs those bricks to be in their places
my favorite comment on TTS Dorn was that he was the Dictionary definition of literal, so when he said he had only seen Lorgar copulate with a book, he had literally seen Lorgar f*** a book
The phalanx is the absolute apex of the imperial firsts logic. If enemies don't come to your fortified position bring the fortified position to your enemies.
One thing that isn't well known as its pretty new lore from the siege of terra, Abbadon went to meet with Perty on how the siege was going, but Perturabo wasn't in his command throne where all the information outlets were. This confused Abby so he questioned Perturabo, and Perturabo revealed that in the past, before the Heresy he and Dorn would run simulations against each other, but Perturabo would always lose. In a rare moment, Perturabo asked Dorn how he was doing it. And Dorn told him, he said that at times he stepped back from the simulations to reflect on other things which helped him clear his mind. Perturabo found that it did indeed actually help him and respected Dorn for sharing it with him.
I just imagined Rogal and Perturabo just playing poker for some reason and everytime Perturabo seems to get the upper hand, Rogal just shows his card and then wins.
@@Jsay18 it would've been best if some of their brothers actually tried to make them reconcile and see that they aren't so different afterall. Meanwhile, what we got was a bunch of kids trying their best to impress their dad only for their dad to select few of his kids to give attention too leaving the rest as just nuisances.
@@lowbridge4080 Would the Primarchs raised under the flag of the Imperium like the Emperor intended have been stronger or weaker for it. I imagine they would be better coordinated but them being raised on different planets is also what made them strong and unique.
@@GamerGrovyle my guess is that the Primarchs would've been balanced as individuals. Konrad wouldn't be paranoid of his gift of foresight. Perturabo's somewhat feeling of anxiety towards seeing the Eye of Terror everyday would've been solved thanks to the Emperor's logical reasoning behind such a thing. Lorgar's obsession of faith would be quelled early on and would probably accept the cold harsh truth of the the Imperium. Basically, everything bad or flawed about the Primarcha would've been mitigated or outright corrected if there was proper oversight but it does rob us the distinct personalities they all have. It would be like buying an unpainted warhammer 40k mini, it's just vanilla if you don't put any some characteristics in them like painting them or customizing them to your own liking.
The more I learn about Dorn, the more I get his TTS and HunterThe Parenting characterization. Like, the part when Bricky said that the I. Fist operate like the US military made all those American jokes make soo much more sense
‘Sigismund’s courage sometimes outstrips his abilities.’ Fulgrim stopped. He turned. He smiled with blood-pinked teeth. Rogal Dorn glared back at him. He flexed his grip on his raised greatsword. ‘Mine doesn’t,’ said Dorn.

I'm surprised you didn't talk about the little interaction between Rogal and Vulkan during the heresy. Vulkan pretty much teleported on his ship and gave Rogal a big hug because he missed his brother, and Rogal didn't know if he could trust Vulkan but was very "Meh" about it and almost cracked a smile.
The closest Dorn ever came to lying that I know of is when he didn’t tell Sanguinius and the Khan that Vulcan was guarding Big E. It was a lie of omission but it still ate at him
The biggest lie that he told is hiding what happened to the 2nd and the 11th , he personally asked The sigillite to alter everyone's memories to hide their fate.
One thing I like about Dorn is that he’s not as cold or callous as people portray him. He usually gets the “unthinking, unfeeling guy” trope. Though I think it was the book Praetorian of Dorn that had a good portion where Dorn laments losing all the art and history in the imperial palace as they are preparing for Horus and Chaos. He’s actually quite cultured and emotional. He’s just supposed to be the embodiment of stoicism. He feels, but he’d never tell you. Even Malcador essentially says that Dorn is the most difficult for Chaos to corrupt because he’s so stoic. I think that’s why I and others really like him.
People forget sometimes that being Stoic doesn't mean not having emotions, it just means not letting emotions control your actions. Dorn is a master of his emotions, not an emotionless person.
@@pissjug6988 It could be. By being in control of yourself and your emotions, in addition to the kind of orderly lifestyle espoused by the Stoics, one could feasibly be immunized against Chaos.
Just remember: Dorn is the only Primarch that Horus straight up didn’t even bother trying to convince to turn to Chaos, because he knew that there was not a chance in hell that Dorn would EVER betray the Imperium
Russ was similarly left alone. The best that Horus could do was send him after Magnus with deniability because, in the Emperor's own words; "Russ is true hearted, one of the few I know will NEVER fall"
The thing to remember about Dorn, is that as a primarch, he is a bio supercomputer of calculation and data crunching behind his every take. He's not just some hardass stubborn dude set in his ways out of ignorance or whatever ad hominem, he *knows* what he *knows*.
He's honorable, brave and wrathful. Khorne loves that. He's stoic and enduring. Nurgle loves that. He's very prideful and tortures himself as meditation. Slaneesh loves that. He likes to plan, to build, to bring about a better tomorrow. Tzeentch loves that.
He is everything Chaos wishes they could have, for their team, but will never ever receive, because his only flaw (for chaos) is that he is loyal to the wrong team.
an example of the lengths Dorn would go to do his job was invading a human civilization that were living on asteroids using atmospheric shielding to survive, he beelined it to the generators with his imperial fists and sent one message warning them that if they didn't surrender he would vent the entire culture into space, a space marine nearby was almost panicking internally because he hoped they wouldn't think Dorn was bluffing.
Rogal Dorn's original lore was that he died during the first Black Crusade, the Imperial Fists recovered his body and his skeleton was kept on the Phalanx and the chapter masters etched their names on it. GW changed it so only his hand was recovered by the Imperial Fists. That change to the lore makes me and other Dorn fans believe he is still alive somewhere.
Wasnt he fighting iron warriors? No way Perturabo would ever let anyone else steal his kill. I would also imagine he might keep Dorn around just to mock him, like a trophy. In their most recent recorded move, the iron warriors were fighting the death guard trying to get to a place called the temple of ascension (presumably a place of power for chaos). Why would Perturabo want that? Perhaps to renounce his demon hood to prove a point to Dorn? Or perhaps to force Dorn to ascend to fuck with him? Imperial super dreadnought Dorn vs demon prince defiler/super hellbrute perturabo when?
@@davidthomas2870 Perterabo was petty, but also practical, if he wasn't there in person, he would let them gank Dorn for the kill, he'd just punish them after.
Dorn and Perterabo are also similar in another way. Dorn practically carried the defense of Terra against the traitors on his back. Perterabo carried the traitor forces.
So True. I play SoH, and its so fucking true. Only 3 Traitor Legions were useful (Death Guard and Sons of Horus), and only one was truly good (Iron Warriors).
@@iamablacksabbathsong9765 blood angels showed up last minute and while helpful weren’t carrying like the fists were and the White Scars while power work best on offence, on defence their hit and run tactics can only take them so far without someone else holding their territory.
I think dorns still alive for two main reasons: 1. Abaddon and the traitors would absolutely parade around his body (parts) and gloat if they managed to catch him or do some absolutely heinous shit and throw it in the imperiums face 2. It would be incredibly lame and unsatisfying if the mystery of his disappearance turned out to be he was dead the whole time.
The 1st reason you mentioned is the same reason I think hes still alive and the forces of chaos would have rubbed it in the face of the imperium if they'd managed to kill Rogal Dorn
Abbadon has a warriors nobility. he respected Sigismunds body and would likely do the same for Dorn. i don't think GW ever intended to bring back Dorn as Kurz's visions never failed. they were quite clear in the vision but people just kept coming up with theories right? the lore has changed dramatically since though, and Dorn's popularity can't be ignored. wouldn't it be funny if Dorn is behind the league of Wotan. He saw where humanity was going and said fuck it, I'll build the empire here with this group.
"Guilliman, I have something to show you." "Yes, brother Dorn?" "This relic is something I have cherished dearly for Millenia." "And what is this relic?" "You will see" *Dorn proceeds to open several layers of doors and vaults revealing a small lockbox* "Dorn, may I ask what's in the box?" "This, Guilliman, is my blankie." "Your blankie?" "Yes." "You keep a blanket as a sacred relic?" "Yes." "I see." "Guilliman, I would request you keep this as a secret between you and I. None can know about the sacred blankie." "I shall respect your wish, brother."
Which is why I love this guy and Fists are my favorite. As much of a gigachad stoic manly man he is, he's got this soft side that's incredibly endearing.
If you haven't already, I recommend watching the 3 part series about Rogal Dorn by Baldermort. Tears will be shed. Probably one of the greatest expositions of 40k related content.
Those videos are the reason I discovered Rogal Dorn and how tragic his story is. Seeing the dream of the Imperium crumble before him, seeing his favorite of his brothers and the one who he thought incorruptible fall, then to top it off! Seeing the shattered body of the Emperor and knowing the dream is lost.
Definitely the best videos on Dorn I have ever seen, and probably the best on TH-cam. Baldermort is one of the best lore channels on here, his Imperial Fists and Black Templars videos are great too.
I’m going to take you up on this. My favorite primarch has been Sangy. But since I’m a follower of stoicism and just leanring how Dorn works he might very well become my number one primarch. Was just thinking about watching vids on him while I paint so those three are perfect thanks!!
Dorn has lied a couple of times during the Siege of terra, which is a major part of his character development. He lied, saying he didn't know Vulkan lived, and he lied when he ordered a significant force, including astartes of his own and his brothers' legions, to hold the Eternity wall spaceport while knowing the defense was doomed. It's really cool to see how incredibly conflicted Dorn is about this kind of warfare of tricks and lies, and it really signifies the fall from grace the imperium as a whole went through.
My favorite thing about Dorn is that for all their cunning, manipulation, and martial prowess, dorn just chopped up an Alpharius with his fuckoff big chainsword like the brick wall of will he is.
I heard that Dorn could actually nullify Alpharius’s ability to camouflage himself. Normally Alphy could make everyone see him as a normal guy to go undetected but Dorn could just see through it.
Dorn is that stern kind of father that will NOT hold back criticism but will also support you when you're doing things right (never an ounce of praise past what's deserved though) Perturabo is more like the kind of abusive tiger parent that will demand perfection as the minimum and absolutely verbally tear you to pieces for the smallest slight. Then proceed to disinherit you.
I'd say Perturabo is more like a slot machine where on a good day you get toy robots and philosophy lessons and the next you are ground face first into the mud because you didn't meet your quotas. The highs are higher, but the lows are much, MUCH lower. Dorn is generally more consistent... unless it's iron cage time, oh boy. He made Perturabo look like a Care Bear during that whole business.
Ah yes, the best Dad in the Imperium. Father of Boy. Dorn is 100% a character I learned the most of from watching TTS. That is the voice I also imagine him with.
By far what I absolutely love about the Imperial Fists is that just how Primarchs are different aspects of the Emperor, his sons are different aspects of Dorn: Sigismund is the unyielding faith and loyalty to the Imperial cause and the Emperor, as well as his disgust towards the abhorrent (remember this is the guy who created the Black Templars) Alexis Polus is his organisational side, more calculated, more diplomatic, more versatile and more rational (this dude became the leader of the Crimson Fists) And Fafnir Ra is the rage towards the treacherous and the traitor (this boi became the chapter master of *The Executioners* )
So, you would imagine from Dorn and the imperial fist image to be this really stern and disciplined military, only for the successors to be absolute murderhobos. Makes me question Dorn's character a bit.
@@CataStudies to be fair to Dorn he did disown Sigismund. A person can be full of rage and in control. The Black Templars lack the control of other successor chapters.
I think one of the best parts of Alpharius' Primarch book was when he said that he refused to ever trust Rogal Dorn BECAUSE he never lied. The dynamic between the two of them has its issues, but when it's done well, it is very interesting to see.
Legend goes that Dorn has been at therapy for 10,000 years after he lost his left hand, whispers among the Custodies say that he is still there, they even say they hear crying from his room every night for "failing" his father, his sons and the Imperium. Sometimes, a giant man has been seen helping rebuild old roads and houses around Terra, but people just assumed it's just a scruffy bearded Ogryn because he speaks very few words, mostly grunts or "yes" and "no"
I want to see rogal return either flying out of the warp dragging a few others out with him (and man many black legion soldiers, possibly abbadon) as though he's been fighting the whole time, or to see him having lived on this one world and continually helping rebuild. picture if he got on a garden world that was undeveloped and suffered storms, but was mostly left to itself and had no way off world. He would have taken the time to finally build things like houses and roads again rather than fortress walls.
That would be nuts. Dorn has been with the Imperium this entire time, he's just SO traumatized that he reverted to where he is no smarter than an ogryn... And that he was so disfigured that the people who saved him they could not even recognize a Primarch
Dorn, Vulkan, and The Lion are the ultimate Chekov's Guns of 40k right now. You can kinda understand Corax and Russ as being "on eternal crusade" at this point, since they've been in the warp so long. Jagatai - same deal, but with the Webway. We know The Lion is alive, we are REASONABLY confident Vulkan is alive, just has a big summoning process associated with him, and Dorn is an unknown. He's presumed dead but his body was never recovered and we've never had any positive confirmation that he was dead, which makes him the most tantalizing unknown.
Oh no! Now I have a mental image of sad Dorn standing alone with a small hammer in one hand and a blankie in the other as everything he knows around him fades to black. Poor Dorn. That’s really really sad. Edit: Great episode guys!
Our father has never capitulated to any enemy, as capitulate means to yield. I believe the word you wanted to use is copulate. A humble battle brother of the Imperial Fists 5th Company (I don't mean to be a grammar nazi, just thought it was funny that you used a word for yield when talking about dorn)
I still like the idea of Dorn having been brought into the warp as an attempt to corrupt him, but only being awakened as the strongest blank in history, as strong as magnus was in warp fuckery if not more so. Because of this he can’t command the warp, but has been fighting his way through it the hard way for all this time, steadfast as always as he grows closer and closer to returning home.
@@Wilderwolfman Not sure about that. Daemons can't exist around blanks, but don't really fear them. By contrast, demons are *scared shitless* of the Doom Slayer. Similarly, Dorn is a wall upon which the enemy shatters. Doom Slayer is an unstoppable hammer which shatters the enemy. ...oh, wait, you said Doom _Guy_. Errrrrrnngh...
@@DaWrecka LOL its nah what you said does make sense, but doom guy really embodies that rage side of dorn and fits the reason doom guy does what he does duty (ehehe) loyalty and honor with an unbridled rage toward demons and people who do underhanded things or betray their comrades
@@Wilderwolfman @DaWrecka I could totally see this Dorn intentionally letting his field shrink so he can personally scare the fuck outta some daemons before he banishes them from all realities.
That would be cool. Kinda like how the Big E is knows as the anathema, the Anti-Chaos. Maybe that’s what Dorn truly inherited from the Big E and bringing him to the warp awakens that ability to max.
Flashgitz's Furry crusade videos are the reason my friend is getting into 40k and wants to play Templars, so I'm dying for a Black Templar episode lmao
@@Nomand55 When they mentioned Sigismund, they must mentioned that he killed a Son of Horus captain in mid-monologuing as he was introducing himself. We saw that from the traitor's point of view up to his death. Sigismund literally paid no attention to this guy and moved onto his next kill.
Rogal deserved it though. His problem is also his greatest strength. He's steadfast, iron-willed, etc but that also makes him stubborn and inflexible. Garro told the trurh and Dorn didn't like it so he nearly fucked up the Heresy at the first hurdle.
It’s a bit late and I’m still catching up, but I really wish they would do an episode on the heroes that those remembrancers were. Keeler is one of if not the first Saints and my bro Kyril Sinderman helped found the Inquisition
When I learned about Rogal Dorn and Perturabo, the best way to compare these guys is that Rogal is Lego and Perturabo is Mega Blocks. Rogal Lego is known for being very reliable, sturdy, and cover all bases. Perty Blocks is known for being experimental, making weapons, and is very stubborn when you try doing things your own way.
I have come to another conclusion, the Imperial Fist chapter are all yellow lego guys and the Iron Warriors look like those knights from Mega Block’s Dragons back then.
There were two armies in the Dragons toy line, the blacks knights are the Iron Warriors, but there was also the bronze colored guys. That’s where you get the Minotaurs Space Marine Chapter!
not just canon, but old canon as well. The whole Custodies Jojo thing is based on official descriptions dating back to Rouge Trader , where they removed their armor in solidarity for their failure to protect the Emperor. All the TTS canon really does is add a little bit of self awareness, and (ironically) sane reactions to information, in how the character's behave. This makes the TTS canon entirely plausible, and arguably more canon, because the GW 40k lore is historically predicated on characters being one dimensional at the worst possible moments (which can be played for laughs). Combined, the whole series is cathartic in how it allows history to have a second chance; by actively allowing character to rectify some mistakes, and repeating others, but this time around the characters react more reasonably. Aka Character growth. This is why I, and many others, choose TTS to be the better canon, because the characters are more then the allegories GW lore treats them as. That and Magus accidentally being Australian, because Zegram can't do a proper British accent. This mistake made him so much more relatable and down to earth, when the orignal intent was to make him a little bit pompous.
24:57 apparently Angron was named after a bouncer who worked at a bar the GW guys would visit in their leisure time. He was always very angry and his name was Ron. Or so I’ve heard.
The phalanx could really have it own episode. The thing was in orbit around Terra DURING THE SIEGE OF TERRA. it survived the onslaught of the traitor legions. After the fall of Cadia, the Fists bolstered the number of normal human guards with the Cadian soldiers that evacuated. Before it had just been those that didn’t make the cut to be fists I’m pretty sure. Plus the Custodes even opened some of their super secret forbidden tech vaults to help them restore it to even better glory than it was before since it had suffered a good deal of battering during millennia it has been in service.
Horus thinking of himself as the best in offence is hard egomania. He was good ad mobile warfare, he was good at a swift brutal war that decapitated the cobra before it shook its tail. I think the real king of the attack was perturabo or mortarion. They could perform lightning warfare, but if it didn't work they could dig in and grind the enemy down to dust no matter the cost. It is proven mostly with perturabo during the heresy. At the very end it was just perturabo who was carrying the traitor legions and he was the only one to withdraw from terra, as opposed to the panicked flight of the sons of Horus or the emperor's children.
Horus said he was the best at assault specifically, right? That’s why he knew he couldn’t beat Dorn, because his style of quick, surgical assault wouldn’t stand again the Wall
Dorn is popular because he has no gimmick. He and the Imperials Fists aren't flashy, aren't space Vikings or emo Batmen. They just show up, get the job done, and leave with no questions. He's the quiet guy that keeps everything running while all else is in chaos.
I never knew that Dorn had a blanket Suddenly I can’t help but now imagine Dorn as Jorgen Von Strangle. Man wears giant Pajama’s to bed and if he ever met a time traveling version of himself they’d go Disco
There is a scene in the Siege of Terra novels where Sanguinius and the Khan have forced Dorn to take a break for a few hoursm he cannot fall asleep, and he wanders the inner palace in basically his Pajamas with the blanket wrapped around his shoulders.
The phalanx is classed as a battle moon. It literally has to be anchored on the far side of the Moon when it is in the Sol system because if it was any closer it would create massive tidal disruptions in the Earth, it's basically a second moon
very much doubt it Slaanesh doesn't do "stern" I'd say Khorn is actually better for him Dorn can get VERY angery and he knows nothing of lying and who else is all about anger and being honorable fighters? khorn ofcourse
Frankly, I'd see him more in a Perturabo situation. Dorn doesn't let his emotions control him, he controls his emotions. The greatest extent of his relationship with Chaos would be his ability to force dæmons to serve him and his sons.
@@suppmydiff3257 Absolutely, and also his focus on honorable combat. He embodies all of the positive aspects of Khorne, and a bit of the negative ones too (Black Templars)
You kinda skimmed over the fact that Dorn was the sole reason the Imperium stood. Horus himself thought that Dorn was the greatest military commander of his brothers.
@@diogoteixeira4950 That's one of my favorite things about the war. As far as the actual fighting is concerned, the war really was Rogal vs Perturabo. Both of them lost too. The Imperium held and the Emperor fell.
@@scottphillips8607 It gets better. Perturabo loses not because he can't win but because he quits, proving that his whole reason for turning (his supposed ultimate unbreakable will to win) was a lie the whole time and he's damned himself for no good reason. Meanwhile Dorn who has never wavered in his duty doesn't give up... but by refusing to compromise, respect or even try to understand his opponents he gets outwitted in the big picture anyway. @@mapleflag6518 No, he would have taken it over (Fists are as good siegebreakers as they are siegemakers, much to the chagrin of the Iron Warriors), very quickly noticed that small hole, patched it over with planks of wood or some shit, and then slapped an Aquila on the side and called it sanctified.
Dorn has the attitude of Captain Holt from Brooklyn 99. This is my head canon. Fulgrim: "How are you faring after the food poisoning?" Dorn: "Terrible. I was barely able to keep down my breakfast of dry toast." Fulgrim: "Oh that's a terrible breakfast." Dorn: "What? That's my favorite breakfast."
Phalanx’s estimated diameter: 900 to 1,825 km (560 miles to 1,134 miles) (Glorianas - Primarch Battleships - are 15-27 km long, aka 9.3 miles to 16.8 miles long) Phalanx's estimated height ranges from 675 to 1215 km (420 miles to 755 miles)
Another reason why the Emperor liked Dorn more was how Perturabo conducted war. During the war with the Hrud and everything else, Perty just ran full frontal assaults and danger close artillery barrages. That was his entire plan. Even when losing soldiers in droves against the Hrud, instead of just blasting them from orbit; Perty kept sending soldiers, and then basically bombing them. He complained that his soldiers were in the grinder, but he was the guy putting the meat into the grinder AND turning the handle. Perty ran war like a mathematical equation, one set of bodies vs another, which is why his brothers didn't want to work with him.
Thx for the story! I like how different channels tell the stories of all those people. Heard his story i think like 100 times and every time its a slightly different story as long as the content creators a creative enough. Luv you guys!
Listening to this again it sounds like Perte would have been far better suited to the construction. Not only would have been something he'd like to do but Rogal Dorn probably would have been just as happy campaigning all those drudging tasks, even the Hrudd. Once again the Emperor is a terrible dad, prophesy theory or not.
Pert was an architect at heart, but his own nature and personality prevented him from speaking up or voicing how much he hated the jobs he was given. He had an entire chamber full of awesome stuff he’d built and designed but never showed to anyone. He also built the place where the council of nikea was held and hated that it was used to host the judgement and censoring of his brother Magnus rather than its intended role of hosting Olympic style games
@@GearShotgun To add to this Perturabo was the kind of person who never does two things at once. He refused to build until he was told all the destroying was done, and refused to try socialising because "he had work to do". We see with Magnus that he was kind of a dork once you made friends with him... but because he could never compromise he ended up forcing himself into a no-win scenario.
My personal take is that Perturabo was a great architect, but a literal misanthrope. So while his mind constantly worked marvels of mechanical principles and complex engineering feats, he wasn't actually building structures for people to... y'know... LIVE in. So he'd make an impregnable fortress, capable of withstanding any siege, but he wouldn't put any toilets inside. That kind of thing.
if the emperor said "Dorn... Perturabo... you will build this place" and told his oversize toddlers to SHARE 40k imperium would be a great place to live and let guiliman run the damn administratum
I think the solution would be "Dorn will build the fortifications, perterabo will make it a Palace" Having Dorn build the base and fortification then having pertty slap on decorarions, statues and other architectural flairs.
Something really interesting to me is how Lionel Johnson and perturabo are completely different in how they wanted to be treated. The similarities and parallels and what they were asked to do, for example the dark Angels' wars against the Rangdan, and the iron warriors against the Hrud - and how they responded individually to whatever praise or lack thereof occurred after their rather pyrrhic victories. I think the Lion is very interesting from a personality standpoint, he's incredibly stable. I want the lion episode
I kinda feel bad for Dorn fans, cause the episode didn't mention how he basically had to defend the Imperium on his own for the majority of the Horus Heresy. He basically carried the loyalists.
@@dariojanjic402 I wouldn't go that far, they still did a good job of explaining what made Rogal tick and some of his cooler moments. They couldn't fit all of his lore, obviously, but I would have liked a bit more. Dorn's fight with Fulgrim for example was pretty awesome.

Great points about Dorn's state of mind and pointing out his motivations and being emotionally vulnerable after Guilliman issued the Codex Astartes. Its a testament to Dorn's Will and Resolve that the venal powers of chaos could not corrupt him... even in his darkest hour.
The chances of Alpharius convincing Dorn that his ways were better were nonexistant, even without taking into account that Dorn hated him so much that he probably wasn't even listening. The first time the two met, Dorn showed that he saw through Alpharius's deceptions, and that although he refused to use such deception in warfare or any other aspect of life, he understood it. Then he proceeded to give Alpharius a rundown on how he could have done much better, finishing by telling Alpharius that the reason he does not like him is not because he uses lies and trickery as his main method of warfare, but because he SUCKS at using lies and trickery in warfare. Alpharius just did not live up to Rogal Dorn's standards.
Made a few observations. 1: Codex Astartes has an illustrated version. 2: I can not hate a guy who needs a security blanket and Slaanesh probably tempted him with thousands of blankets and a pillow fort. 3 I love these vids so much. The banter and the storytelling, humor and the whole format makes the lore easy to absorb.
interestinly enough there is a short story from the book blood of the emperor, that goes over Horus' brief childhood in the mines Cathonia. it's pretty brutal, but it kinda does read into that obsession he had with his legacy, that turned out to be his downfall in the end. it's not the most fleshed out Primarch backstory, but it's not bad. though a Primarch, even as a child, getting beaten up by other kids his age, seems a little weird, though i think it is implied he wasn't fighting back because he didn't think he could? i don't know i'll have to re read it
Im not sure why, but I REALLY like Dorns story a lot. Even the way it ended makes me wonder if the fates of all the primarchs were always bound to end in some kind of tragedy. He kept trying to do his best for so long, but in the end he still broke in one way he might never have imagined...

By far what I absolutely love about the Imperial Fists is that just how Primarchs are different aspects of the Emperor, his sons are different aspects of Dorn:

I accept this as Canon now.
@@SittingOnEdgeman even if he's death he can be brought back, like it happened with Girlyman
Oh no! Now I have a mental image of sad Dorn standing alone with a small hammer in one hand and a blankie in the other as everything he knows around him fades to black. Poor Dorn. That’s really really sad.
Edit: Great episode guys!
i absolutely LOVE the comment section for this episode.
"yes"- Dorn.

Please erase these mind images immediately!
Our father has never capitulated to any enemy, as capitulate means to yield. I believe the word you wanted to use is copulate.

Vulkan: "Hey Rogan Dorn. Would you beat me in a hugging competition?"

Vulkan: "Here I come then!"
I still like the idea of Dorn having been brought into the warp as an attempt to corrupt him, but only being awakened as the strongest blank in history, as strong as magnus was in warp fuckery if not more so. Because of this he can’t command the warp, but has been fighting his way through it the hard way for all this time, steadfast as always as he grows closer and closer to returning home.
so Dorn is literally just Doom Guy
Knew he was coming up after DK mentioned so much interest in the Black Templars.
Well, for black templars you'd need a Sigismund episode first.
I demand an episode explaining how Nathaniel Garro was able to walk with those TITANIC balls. Dude insults a primarch to his face.
Garrow: "Horus is betraying the Imperium!"
Dorn: "And I took that personally"
I'm no fan of the imperium, but when I listened to baldermort's video series on Dorn it made me want to give him a hug
Yeah, Baldermort is an amazing narrator, he conveys so well everything Dorn went through as the Horus Heresy developed.
Fortunately for all, Vulkan had done this hug on everyone's behalf.
Rogal Dorn can read!
He's read Lego building instructions thousands of times.
You said all this just so you had an excuse to say Perty blocks… which sounds pretty dope actually…
I have not the talent to make such an apt description.
Hmmm, I wonder who would be playmobil then. XD
This episode ended so many times
Also the TTS version of Rogal Dorn is 100% cannon and no one can tell me otherwise!!!
well according to GW 90% of the Warhammer plot is up to you so yes, you are right
TTS is canon no one can tell me otherwise
“Yes”
Rogal dorn
He is the one with mutton chops
not just canon, but old canon as well.
Probably not true but that is very funny
Dorn is such a lad even his HtP counterpart knows how to fortify the position

The fact that man has a blankie makes me feel like aw but the other side of me is yelling Iron within iron without
The phalanx could really have it own episode.
Dorn can’t read the room, nor can anyone in the imperial fists. They can read the walls though

Dorn read Mars’ knowledge in one week. It took Perturabo three days. I’d say for a primarch, Dorn is still using Leapfrog.
Let’s be honest, Perturabo probably heard that it took Dorn a week and decided to make it a priority to do it faster.
Dorn is popular because he has no gimmick. He and the Imperials Fists aren't flashy, aren't space Vikings or emo Batmen. They just show up, get the job done, and leave with no questions. He's the quiet guy that keeps everything running while all else is in chaos.

Suddenly I can’t help but now imagine Dorn as Jorgen Von Strangle.

Y'know, with how much of a perfectionist dorn is, Slaanesh does unironically make the most sense for a chaos god for him
I don't know why anyone would do drugs when they could just mow the lawn - Hank Hill.. and maybe Rogal Dorn
very much doubt it
Slaanesh doesn't do "stern"
I'd say Khorn is actually better for him
Dorn can get VERY angery and he knows nothing of lying
and who else is all about anger and being honorable fighters?
khorn ofcourse
Frankly, I'd see him more in a Perturabo situation. Dorn doesn't let his emotions control him, he controls his emotions. The greatest extent of his relationship with Chaos would be his ability to force dæmons to serve him and his sons.
His military prowess and huge focus on honesty makes him lean more towards Khorne I'd say
Honesty and chivalry is a big Khorne thing
@@suppmydiff3257 Absolutely, and also his focus on honorable combat. He embodies all of the positive aspects of Khorne, and a bit of the negative ones too (Black Templars)
You kinda skimmed over the fact that Dorn was the sole reason the Imperium stood. He literally held back all of the traitor legions for like a decade with little direct support from his brothers until the siege itself.
Horus himself thought that Dorn was the greatest military commander of his brothers.
Hum. Guess even in that Perturabo and Dorn are similar. Both carried their side of the war.
Both were the other's biggest lesson, the way for them to become whole, and they both failed miserably at their stated goals despite being badasses.

I think Perturabo has a bit of a martyr complex. His sister pointed that out right before he killed her.
@@13931411119 i think anyone who was as unappreciated as Perturabo is justified to have a martyr complex lol

I think the solution would be
"Dorn will build the fortifications, perterabo will make it a Palace"
Having Dorn build the base and fortification then having pertty slap on decorarions, statues and other architectural flairs.
Horus and other traitors: Screw the Emperor!
United Dorn and Perturabo: *swat*
It makes the comparison between Dorn and Perturabo even greater when they butt heads

Oh boy... this burned worse than Prospero.
