White scars have a special place in my heart. Not for the chapter, or colour, or even lore, but because of that old photo from a wh40k tournament years ago with the WS player losing the game before it had even begun because he put everything in reserve and his opponent monkey-chained their Kroot scout army across the entire table edge, stopping him from putting down a single unit. Lives rent free in my head.
I’d love to see your take on dark angels next ! Seeing as they have a similar ‘knightly’ vibe to the black Templars but in a different way. I feel that you’re bringing your own touch to each chapters so I’m super looking forward to getting new inspiration for the most secretive space marine chapter. Amazing paint job on that white scar !
JAY! You don't know how much this means to me! White Scars are my personal fav Space Marine legion, and this dude came out SO GOOD. I never collected a full army of scars but the handful of squads I've painted did pretty much the same recipe and it feels like dream fulfillment seeing you paint my fast boys up! 100% would love to see more white scars from you, esp to see how you'd kitbash some of the larger HQ units into the Chogorian horde! Much love jay
I'm stoked for their refresh and some multipart (read: more dangerous) outriders! ...as a Dark Angels player I need stuff to steal for the Ravenwing...
I love White Scars. I don't play Space Marines but the scars do tempt me and do so often. Mostly because the Khan is absolutely the most based Primarch and by far my favorite for it.
The invader ATV is actually kind of nice in a bike squad if only as a bullet sponge with its 8 wounds. Plus the Multi-melta it carries can be good to soften up the tank first.
The White Scars always remind me of the crazy from a few years ago where they kept losing without getting to deploy anyone due to some of their specific rules and being unable to enter the field when they were planned for there
Love these videos being released at this time, usually at around 8 pm where I live so fun to unwind and watch whilst I paint my marines! You should do the iron fists, the successor chapter of the iron hands, just cooler!
I think the trouble with that white is imagine doing that without an airbrush. Having just bought one to help varnish larger miniatures after my brushwork is done, I can say, even using varnishes, how much of a difference it makes for steady, thin, and consistent application.
@@Onkel_Ranger Aerosol application can be very difficult depending on humidity, weather, etc. I'm not saying you're wrong, I just mean it as more of a thing to consider, and the results will be different, and far less smooth than an airbrush. Also, I would heavily recommend Colour Forge over Citadel Aerosol products. They are cheaper, have better nozzles, and contain more paint in the can.
The format of these space marine vids is really good, boys. Love the repetition of the steps and products instead of referring to other content. Great work.
The reason people find painting white hard is because the vast majority of people don't have an air brush. It's one of the reasons so few collect white scars outside of severe lore under appreciation and clash of play style. Most people starting out don't have the money to shell out for an air brush before even starting to paint their army . not to mention not having the space or well a ventilated room to install it . even goon hammer has an article about painting white scars and out of the 4-5 painters only 1 did not use an air brush . I have seen comments saying " use a rattle can if you don't have an air brush" but I don't think ive ever seen a tutorial actually one in such a way. With that out of my system, over all great and entertaining video worthy of a like .
It's so hard picking just 1 Space Marine army honestly, they all are so cool and unique in their own way. Just getting into the hobby myself and having to limit to a single Space Marine army for now was so difficult.
Yo can you explain how does Jay get 24 bolter shots with 6 Outriders+chaplain+ATV ? In my math that comes out to 14 shots + 2 from the ATV Bolter.. so 16. If I assume he's using the ATV Gatling canon instead it comes up to 22 shots but thats why im confused lol sorry for the long question. Best regards
My favorite Legion and Chapter hands down. I am currently working on a Crimson Fists Army due to how easy they are to build and paint to get an Army quickly but the White Scars are next.
Since you love experimenting with paint, and you like white, I may have a tip for you. 😊 Besides miniatures, I paint guitars and motorcycles, therefore I own a lot of types of paint. So, my brother had asked me to paint his nids in the hive fleet Behemoth theme. By then, I had never used contrast paints. Being an old school painter, I used bases, layers, highlights and washes. The usual stuff. My brother wanted to use contrasts and had a red one sitting there, so I decided to give it a go. This meant that they had to be primed white. I found out, due to lack of miniature white primer, that white primer for automobiles works like a dream. I remember putting a full unit of gaunts in line, spraying once from the front and once from the back and "wham", they were fully covered in a pearly white with just 2 thin sprays. This really untied my hands when it came to coverage of mostly white minis. 😊 Greetings from Crete!
Black Dragons - 21st (Cursed) Founding - Their bone blades should be cool to see on your models. Blood Ravens - Unknown Founding - Mostly just a DoW ask. Crimson Fists - 2nd Founding - The first chapter to ever be seen, having been on the cover art of Rogue Trader. Dark Angels - 1st Founding - The 1st Legion, and their primarch is apparently back. Deathwatch - Ordo Xenos - You can basically use whatever chapter you want with this one. Flesh Tearers - 2nd Founding - A more vicious form of the Blood Angels chapter (they actually take pride in the Red Thirst, and are quite a lot more prone to the Black Rage than their progenitors). Plenty of opportunities for chain weapons. Also, Gabriel Seth's take on the Primaris Marines is based. Grey Knights - Ordo Malleus - Can you do this without any of the special parts? Or will you cave? Iron Snakes - 2nd Founding - Out of all art of space marines, one of my favourite will always be that one Marine with the respirator with a grill like that of a snarling beast, and the giant, thick, slab-like pauldrons. It's such an evocative image. Lamenters - 21st (Cursed) Founding - The checkered pattern on the pauldrons will give you a good challenge. Plus, we gotta love these boys. Mantis Warriors - Possible 8th Founding - Stealthy Samurai Marines. Storm Giants - Unknown Founding (possibly during the 36th Millennium, so between 15th through 21st foundings, _maybe_ older) - These Salamanders successors are described as being even larger and stronger than the marines of other chapters. I wanna see how you can do with kitbashing the size of your marines. Storm Wardens - Unknown Founding - Mostly because I love the idea of Scottish Space Marines.
I too am planning on doing one space marine from each Legion. Doing Sons of Malice and Rainbow Warriors instead of 2 and 11, just as a color study, vs black and white study.
I've recently painted up some Storm Ravens (The Chapter not the Vehicle) and if you liked painting the scars then you will probably enjoy the Storm Raven Chapter as well!
I'm trying to expand my intercessor kill team into a white scars army. The armor was a time sink but I'm happy with it - a light blue up to white with layering. I definitely want to experiment with just stippling/sponging on my layers so things go quicker. I went with fluorescent green lenses.
I like this design.... it's strangely striking without being over the top. I made my own army colour scheme, taken from my favourite animal, the Manul, or Pallas Cat. They are a mix of almost White and light Greys, with much darker Grey and Black lines across opposite sides of the lower left leg and upper right shoulder, like the Tiger stripe pattern. They then have Yellow lenses, and depending on model, rank etc.... Certain models have an Orange helmet. The colour scheme looks so good, doesn't take a huge amount of time. Love creating my own colours... Watching the F1 the other day, and the Sauber team, have a Black and Brilliant Green scheme..... Think it could look awesome on Marines.
I would like to see his take on Iron hands, yes they are another chapter of black armored space marines but I would love to see his take on them and see how he adds his own spice to them.
I'd really love to see the Dark Hunters get some love personally. White Scars successor chapter of monster hunters with Raven Guard influenced Stealth tactics
The next chapter you should do is my homebred Amethyst Lions. A Golden lion Shoulder Pads and Royal Purple armour, They are bound by honour to uphold the codex as fresh recruits they research other chapters grudges and then crusade to end them, they search the stars for duels with Heretics and Zeno, then when they have brought back a skull they can join the ranks of there brothers. You'll be Happy to hear Jay there, Black Templar Successors
the minie look good, but the glossy shoulder pads kinda pop out because it is that glossy... could have used a little mat or satin clear coat to better blend it with the rest of the kitbash.
You should do Relictors, asuch converting as you want but the main reason is the chaos/xenos weaponry they use...grey, black and bronze gold I used to use
