SRV did not mentor Healey. Even SRV thought that was a funny rumour. Stevie Ray and Albert Collins discovered Jeff in a club in Toronto. I used to see Jeff around the Toronto jazz jam scene. Because of contract obligations, he couldn't play guitar without his management getting paid. So he played cornet, and he was just as good a horn player as he was on guitar.
The piano player was Dr John. You need to check him out to. He’s gone now, but he had a very long career and collaborated with a lot of great musicians. His most known song is Right Place, Wrong Time
A great Canadian talent gone too soon - and one hell of a blues/rock guitar player. Jeff went blind as a child (about age 1, thanks to Anthony Davies for the correction) and he learned to play the guitar on his lap because when he started, he was too small to hold it properly. He can shred with the best of them - if you enjoy this, you should check out him and Stevie Ray Vaughan doing 'Look Out Little Sister', it's killer stuff - RIP Jeff. BTW, that's the legendary Dr. John sitting in on the piano, that's a whole other musical rabbit hole to go down.
Minor correction David - Jeff lost his sight at the age of 1yr old. Agree re his duet with Stevie! Also worth watching is As The Years Go Passing By live in Germany
RIP 2 legendary blues guitarist Jeff Healey cancer fooking sucks it took his eye sight at 1 years old but it never took the spirt and love of music away from him a true inspiration mane.
My brother and I are guitarists, and Canadian like Jeff. we saw him in concert front center 8th row, and were so totally blown away by this talent👍🤙🎶 Thank you❤️
Enjoyed your reaction. I remember when he was getting really big my friend who was in a Montreal band was at my place and I said have you heard of this guy Jeff Healey and my friend told me he knew him and sometimes did gigs with him. Then he told he was coming to town soon and if I wanted to go meet him. Of course I said yes and not only did my date and I meet him but we were seated at his table with the band but also with a few other members of other bands. One of which was a member of Supertramp. He was a really nice guy to get to know a bit that night.
Jeff is a prime example that you can go whatever you set your mind to, no matter the obstacles- Please react to his HUGELY known hit “Angel Eyes!” 👍✌️🤘🏼
You can go wherever God gives you the talent to go. With Jeff it was music. Not many people have talent like that in music. It has to be developed, of course, but if the talent isn't there you can't create it out of thin air.
Jeff Healy and Stevie Ray Vaughan, little sister was a song they did live.... Plus Jeff Healy & B.B King jammed live as well you cam find that as well..
There is a video of Jeff Healey and Stevie Ray Vaughan doing look at little sister that is truly amazing Jeff even shocks Stevie Ray with a lick that he wasn't expecting.
You know it's funny you mentioned Stevie, him and Jeff Healey actually played together on a few occasions. Check out them playing "Look At Little Sister" together, it's a great performance from both of them.
While at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto, after work. Hoisting some beers. Taking in one of my Blues heroes. John Hammond Jr. Mid show. John asks us to welcome a young local man, to the stage.also enjoying the show. Assisted to a chair. And handed a guitar. This guy, proceeded to blow our minds. I had heard chatter about a guy. And was sure it was him. And sure enough. What a lucky fluke for me. Wouldn't be long before everyone knew him. His Album released a few years later. Then his small part in Road House the flick. Gracing the stage with others like Stevie Ray Vaughn RIP. Jeff
You guys should really check out The Pretenders...Their first two albums. Bad ass rock and roll and on of the finest female rock singers ever...Check out "Day after Day" "Message of Love" "Kid" "Up The Neck", "Mystery Achievement" or "Talk of the Town"...
You noticed right away that he was blind and I had no idea. What a guitar master! Dr. John on piano always cooks. The great Stevie Wonder was also blind.
The first time I ever saw Jeff was in 1988 at Grossman's Tavern, a Toronto blues institution. I'd gone to see guitarist Monte Horton, who I'd met 6 years earlier when I had management briefly and was looking to put a band together, and bassist/producer John Switzer(Jane Siberry-'One More Colour', 'Mimi on the Beach'). They were backing up singer Amanda Marshall at the start of her career, it was Jeff's birthday and he was sitting in. His t-shirt had a cartoon of a seeing eye dog standing over an open manhole with that hand over mouth "I'm in trouble" expression. Jeff played his ass off, drunk or not, as we do. Sorry I missed the show with Jeff, SRV and Jeff Beck, my other GOAT after Jimi, where Healey reportedly stole the show. At my 39th birthday, again at Grossman's in 1995, hosting the Sunday night jam on the Labour Day weekend, I finished the night 20 minutes after last call with Hendrix's 'Angel' followed by the Beatles' 'Revolution'. Brought the house down. Jeff's drummer Tom bought me a shot of tequila earlier, and 'Angel' was on the next Healey album. Never met him, sadly. Rest In Power, brother. ;'>D
Jeff was a one of a kind. Can play the guitar like fire without water for a blind dude!!!! AWESOME!!! RIP Jeff Ronnie Milsap is another Blind man that plays the piano in county music.
Your girl is back, awesome!✌♥️ he was amazeballs, like... we all become better people after witnessing such magic! Ok, I got too deep hahaha, but this guy... aside from Eddie VH & Page, I've never got the FEELS from guitar like this, he just KNEW how to hit us right!!✌♥️
Saw him live a few times playing guitar. He also played jazz trumpet, had a huge record collection and played early jazz. He tended to play his jazz at smaller venues and folk festivals.
I saw Jeff play at seedy clubs that had open mic nights on Yonge Street. He used to take the TTC to downtown Toronto and walk around looking for clubs that would let him play. First time was a place called the "Upper Lip". Some friends were playing there and Jeff was also there. We were all gobsmacked by this guy's, obviously insane talent. I was once sitting on a patio at Eaton Centre and we heard him playing at the Colonial. So we ended up watching him play there. The last show was at the old Copa where I worked setting up bands in exchange for free cover charge plus guests and a like $20!!
Another recommendation for Jeff with SRV together. For different guitar greats check out Tommy Emmanuel's Classical Gas, Roy Clark --Guitar Wizard and Justin Johnson playing Crankin Up on Shovel Guitar.
Jeff Healey was a great Canadian guitarist as is his fellow Canadian Colin James - they played alive duet together at least once but both toured with Stevie Ray Vaughan
The Piano Player, Dr. John began his career as a guitarist until he was shot in the left hand breaking up a fight between one of his band members and an enraged husband who had accused the member of messing around with his wife. That pretty much halted his guitar days and he turned to the piano instead where he enjoyed a long and successful career.
Angel eyes is his most famous song. He played in the movie road house with patrick Swayze. He was the band at the bar. React to angel eyes. It is my mom and her late husbands, my stepfathers song.
Jeff needs to be talked about in the same circles as SRV and Hendrix. He was that good. Blind or not. Check out Jeff Healey "As The Years Go Passing By". One of the few guitar solos that gave me chills in a long time.
No one wishes for blindness of course but what a perfect example of the human spirit to overcome. In the end, Jeff's blindness may have been a blessing. Would he have been as focused and passionate if not for the blindness? Music for him, like for Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Andrea Bocelli, William McTell, Ronnie Millsap etc became his entire world. The blindness in itself became part of the artistry. As musicians that are already gifted reach a different plane within themselves due to the inner "eye" being more and more sensitive to their craft. It literally becomes their life in an entirely different level.
Jeff had cancer in his eyes as a baby and never saw how everybody else plays the guitar. When his parents gifted him with one, he learned it his way! Cancer took him in his forties later. Such talent!
Jeff was my house band at a club called the Riv in Toronto in theearly 80s, his first set was always all Zep SRV and jimi closing tune always heyhey what can i do,second set was his only vinyl at the time which eas see the light ,then he went and filmed Roadhouse with p.swazye so my owner went and bought a 1500 seat bar in Cambridge Ont to keep Jeff playing for us good times man
Y'all need to watch Jeff play with Stevie Ray Vaughn doing "Look At Little Sister"...amazing to see!! Actually, Stevie Ray mentored Jeff🎵🎶🎸🎵🎸

Stevie said Jeff is the best guitar player he'd ever seen.

I agree with Debbie, that video is a must see for fans of stevie and Jeff.
I had the good fortune to see him play a couple of times at his club in Toronto. Amazing talent. Helluva musician.
Wow, great!
I saw him at Massey Hall with Ronnie Hawkins, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and The Band. Not as intimate as Jeff's Club, but quite a show.
There is a video of Jeff Healey and Stevie Ray Vaughan doing look at little sister that is truly amazing Jeff even shocks Stevie Ray with a lick that he wasn't expecting.
SRV & Jeff Healey Look little sister duet they are great together
You know it's funny you mentioned Stevie, him and Jeff Healey actually played together on a few occasions. Check out them playing "Look At Little Sister" together, it's a great performance from both of them.

The guy is a tribute to the human spirit to overcome obstacles.
Jeff Healey proved that you don't let anything stand in the way from what you want to accomplish in life
You noticed right away that he was blind and I had no idea. What a guitar master! Dr. John on piano always cooks. The great Stevie Wonder was also blind.

Omar Hakim on the drums. A master musician in his own right. And Dr. John on the keyboards. Another legend!
Definitely in the discussion as one of the best guitarists, if not in fact the GOAT. Blind at the age of one, but his disability was not a deterrence.
