As a guitarist myself, we typically mainly use four fingers on the fret board with the occasional thumb over the top on the low E (the fat string at the top) for certain chords. This dudes thumb game is ridiculous. How jealous do you think a piano player would be watching a six fingered man play piano in front of him. That’s how I feel watching this guy, it’s almost unfair. Legend.

This guy is in the movie Roadhouse. Jeff Healey is in the band that plays at the bar. And Patrick Swayze is the bouncer. And they are long time friends in the movie. Ifs not a bad movie. Its worth watching at least once.

Jeff Healey didn't have a gazillion hits, but what he gave to das evolution of Rock music
can't be defined. He was certainly a passionate guitarist who could sing most anyone's
tunes,..but das inspiration he exhibited to so many he affected can not be measured.
Legendary und prodigy simply can't define him. We miss you Jeff. Lex??? I'm quite
impressed about you taking time to check out Jeff Healey's history. 🙂
I think both of you are very much intelligent und "good people"...That ist important to me.
I wish you das best in your TH-cam quest. :-)

Watching Jeff rip on the leads on lap mounted guitar has always amazed me. Another person who amazes me is Albert King. He's left handed, but plays a right handed guitar strung right handed. He basically just flips a right hand guitar over and jams. Another self taught master.

That was the perfect explanation of self perception Lex. I’ve been a guitar player for over 40 years and can’t get anywhere close to what this dude does.

I’ve never seen this!! Wowza!! I’ve seen JH perform before but not this official performance. That was fantastic, and I agree with everything you both said! And yes, Lex, that was Dr. John!!

That band behind him were/are legends in their own right and were regulars on that show. Dr. John on piano, Marcus Miller on bass and Omar Hakim on drums. Going from memory Jeff started playing when he was 3 and was self-taught. When he went to a boarding school for the blind they tried to get him to play the guitar "normally" but he was uncomfortable doing so and stuck with the method of playing it on his lap.

I recall being in a club in Toronto, to see the great John Hammond back in the 80s? This guy is asked to come up to join the band. With help, Up comes this fairly young blind guy. He sits on a chair. He proceeds to blow us away with this song. Before long the local talent from the west end is on his feet. I was an instant fan. And still choke up over his death. RIP Jeff

The only guy that approaches SRV level! He is just other-worldly; great composer, never runs out of licks and luckily for us, recorded a lot of music!

There may be others but Jeff is the ONLY guy I have ever seen play electric guitar flat on his lap like that (and get that insane vibrato). If you can believe it Jeff also played trumpet. RIP Jeff (in 2008) , we miss you but your music will live forever !

I met Jeff on a flight from Vanvouver to Toronto. He was with the bass player and he is the sweetest most humble person l ever met. He was surprised l even recognized him. I was honored to order them an Adult beverage. I'm a musician and l have another great Canadian band for you. They are old friends of mine and l played in a band with the bass player Jim Creiton in a band called Howie and the Starlights. How for they've gone. Check out "on the loose" SAGA live in Germany is a good example. I like your site you crazy kids! How about a little love for 🇨🇦 Canada. We watch you up here too!! ✌☮
