    Peter B. Parker in Across was the literal next step for his character from into.
    His ENTIRE ARK in the first movie was learning to regain his confidence, learning to “take the leap of faith” in himself. Where Miles learned how to have confidence in himself to be a hero and be Spider-Man, Peter learned how to have confidence in being a father.
    To say that Across assassinated his character is so mind numbing and insulting, and misses the entire point of his Ark.

Isn't it more reasonable to assume that Peter wanted Miles to meet his newborn child for the first time, and as the situation escalated he made a judgement call to try and help Miles as he might miss the chance if he returns May to his dimension and most definitely can't leave her alone. Peter doing Spider-man things with Mayday with him as well as giving her a web-shooter would make sense in terms of his parenting. Given she was born with spider-powers, it is very likely that she would choose to become a super-hero in the future, so familiarizing her with the dangers at an early age gives her more experience and skills than Peter ever had when he started which would protect her in the long run.

  • @OceansOfMotionStudios
    @OceansOfMotionStudios 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

    Accidents do happen? He shouldn't have brought the baby. When he takes mayday with him at the end of the film, Gwen knows that miles is on earth 42. The earth that doesn't have a spider-man?
    None of them know how safe/dangerous earth 42 is, yet Pete still brings his infant daughter beacuse he's confident he and the others can protect her? This sounds like over confidence on Peter's part. Even if he wants his daughter to grow up like Miles? Maybe wait til she's able to formuate a sentence before on the job training.
    Peter can't account for every variable and it's safer to leave the baby at home. It's more of a completely avoidable risk (no matter how harsh or slight) than a leap of faith. Peter could have simply had the heart to heart with miles and showed him the baby photos, with the scene playing out exactly the same.
    It was comic relief that could've been handle better. Didn't ruin the character for me, but the questions it raised were pretty irksome and unnecessary.

    So I'm only about 15 minutes into the video, but the easiest answer to everything so far is spidersense. Anything threatening mayday would 100% trigger his senses and those same senses that would have been passed down to mayday also instinctively keep her out of harms way. Spidersense is the primary reason peter can swing without needing to do a shit ton of math every time he shoots a web and that would also apply to mayday.

    • @howdoichangemyusername9802
      @howdoichangemyusername9802 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

      The thing is Spider-Sense almost seems turned off. Shouldn’t Peter have been aware of Miles webbing him up after Miguel tracked his location? Why are other Spider-people treated like jokes when they should at least have the same baseline of skills, abilities and experience as Miles?
      The entire point is it was totally irresponsible of Peter to bring Mayday especially during the chase. And he could’ve dropped her off since he literally has the watch that allows him to travel to different universes.

      @@howdoichangemyusername9802 This video we're commenting on has a rebuddle for the dropping her off argument, so I won't parote his words, but spidersense triggers when Peter/those immediate around are in danger. At no point did he feel/was he in danger from Miles. It's likely miles didn't even trigger the response, or Peter allowed himself to get webbed up. Spidersense is naturally inclined towards defense, so Miles was benefitting from it as he felt every other spider in the facility was trying to stop him from saving his dad. He would have been in high gear dodging, while all the other spiders needed to run the offense. Spidersense gives basically no real advantages to offense

Unfortunately, the movie is about mile first getting to, then escaping from the spider society. So that means miles needs to be able to outrun everyone else. I could probably keep giving excuses for the spidersense, but that would mean I'm spending more time/effort trying to fix a plot hole than the creators spent making it in the first place

Yes, in the real world taking your daughter on a high speed chase is irresponsible, but this is an animated movie about hundreds of different versions of a guy with the powers of a spider. As long as a story doesn’t contradict its own logic, it’s fine, it doesn’t need to fit perfectly into the rules of the real world. Honestly, I agree with the guy about certain things. I too was extremely disappointed with how Peter B was portrayed, especially during the train scene and what came afterwards. I don't belive Peter would just stand by and scream "Miguel, we've talked about this" while Miguel is beating Miles and then keep trying to give Miles his baby to hold after he just found out that his dad is going to die. Also, I don't believe Peter would turn pragmatic and join Miguel. "Without Uncle Ben none of us would be here" is not a sentence I should be hearing from him, at least not in this context.
    What worked about Peter in the first movie was that he knew when to crack jokes and when to be serious. This Peter acts like he doesn't give a damn about Miles and Gwen just because he's a parent now.

    • @MelonTartVA

      Trying to get Miles to hold mayday was after the canon event conversation.

      Miles leaves after that with Peter never getting another chance to try and calm things down with Mayday

  • @duckchen2676
    @duckchen2676 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +23

    I think your side relies a lot on Peter's confidence in Mayday's durability. Yea, she MIGHT be just as tanky as any other spiderperson, but does Peter KNOW that? If he hasn't tested that somehow, like dropping her from incrementally high ledges, then he is risking her taking some serious damage, especially as an infant.
    And for the ending scene where Peter picks up Mayday to go find Miles, if he DOES know where Miles is, then he knows the Prowler (a supervillain) is also there. If he doesn't know where Miles is, then any supervillain(s) could be there. I don't consider him having a squad to jump them with as making May any safer, arguably it makes her a larger vulnerability to target as she would be the weak link to focus on. And either way, even if he had 1000 of Miles friends to back him up why risk bringing Mayday there at all?

    • @C0LIN.
      @C0LIN.  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I don't think it's unreasonable to assume Mayday could've showcased her powers just by being a baby and Peter witnessed it. Like if she ripped apart her crib or something that's obviously and indication. Also I literally said in the video even if she did only have the durability of say a regular adult human in this video it would still be irrelevant due to how Peter is tackling the scenario
      Also how would Peter know that Miles is with Prowler? They could just know what Earth he is on. And the reason he brings Mayday at the end again could just fall onto him trying to use her to calm Miles down again because that worked last time. And once again he wants Mayday around the other spider-people and Miles. And for the villain thing I literally explained that in the video already, and how the fuck would Peter evading conflict and letting the other Spider-People with him handle that, make him more of a liability or make Mayday less safe? If Peter is keeping his distance from conflict, why/ how would a villain manage to chase him specifically down, when he has 8 other spider-people to deal with? Like wtf is that argument...

    • @duckchen2676
      @duckchen2676 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +20

      @@C0LIN. The first point sure there is room for the possibility that he was aware of her powers, but the movie SHOULD HAVE shown the audience why Peter was so confident in them. A short flashback or even a cutaway gag of the baby doing something strong would have sufficed. Otherwise at best it's ambiguous, at worst the viewers brain assumes a baby is in danger. And I'll say during the chase scene fine, since Spider-HQ is safe I can believe he wasn't irresponsible to trust his abilities to keep her out of danger. But bringing her into potential combat (the ending) there are just too many variables to account for.
      Whether he knew Prowler specifically was there wasn't really my point. What he would known is that there is no spiderman on the Earth Miles sent himself to, and the place is probably (and seemingly confirmed to be) teeming with supervillains because of that. To your 2 how/why questions: Why would a villain chase him down? The same reason any supervillain goes after the hero's loved ones, they are weaker and they can easily use them as leverage against the heroes. How would a villain chase him down? It may not be likely, but you can't account for all variables in that situation. Maybe there are multiple supervillains, maybe they can teleport/go invisible.
      I get why he brought the baby now but I still think the risk outweighs any possible benefit.

    I deleted my original comment here, primarily because I supremely missed the point of both this video and the video from Sheev. At first I thought, “No, he’s not ooc, and him being irresponsible is a reflection of his character,” and though I still think that, I admit that addressing his parenting is a valid criticism. A lot of your video attempts to refute his irresponsibility, but the points in support of Peter’s parenting aren’t really the greatest.
    I’m not here to take a side, since I think both of you present some good and bad points. But I will say, a baby, regardless of how you try to spin it, is still a baby. Mayday might be at low risk for injury here, but the slight risk presented is potentially life-threatening. Yes, Peter is a skilled Spider-Man who’s surrounded by other Spider-People, but it’s pretty difficult to reconcile with the fact that if any of them slip up, Mayday’s life is in far greater danger than it would’ve been had she simply been left with MJ. At the same time, none of this is necessarily ooc for Peter. Him simply trusting his/other’s abilities, being optimistic about his child, and attempting to lighten the mood is in-character.
    In short, Peter isn’t perfect. Oh well 🤷‍♂️. It’s an interesting show of his character, and I love his interactions with others involving Mayday. And though I think this, I’m also completely ok with accepting that his parenting isn’t great. He can be both a questionable parent and a good character.

People seriously need to realize that superheroes live and die by what's good for the story and what the writers want to convey, not by who should technically win or lose in accordance to powerscaling.

    “Extremely irresponsible when it comes to how he parents Mayday”
    So we gonna ignore the fact they are in a society and place filled with spider people. Peter’s daughter has spider powers and Peter allowing his daughter to use them is in character, it definitely shows how comfortable and trusting he is in the society. It’s a safe environment where he is with individuals he trusts (Gwen and Hobbie for instance). The only time where the environment isn’t safe is when Miles escaped and he had the whole society chasing him. However if you notice what Peter does in that sequence is make sure his daughter is okay constantly. The only irresponsible thing I see him doing is at the end of the movie where he joins Gwen to go save Miles, and brings his daughter with him. However you could make the same argument again that he is around individuals he trust.

  • @kitanasfans2328
    @kitanasfans2328 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +22

    What I've gathered from this is essentially "It's fine that Peter brought mayday even though it's face first irresponsible alone because she has powers and they can equate to other Spider-Characters even though she's a toddler" and "Yeah Peter was obnoxious not taking anything seriously, but he was trying to lighten the mood, and ease tension so it's okay"
    If I'm misrepresenting those points, not my intent. I don't think Peter was ruined but I DO understand where dude in the video is coming from with those points. I can see how one would be annoyed that he didn't take things MORE seriously than he did. However the way Peter was written overall still had a sense of proper follow up in my opinion, but those criticisms aren't completely invalid. If one were making really annoying corny remarks in the midst of a serious group discussion, I'm confident the group would look at that person wanting to punch them in the face.
    Again, it may fit Peter's character, but it's still MAD annoying when you have that ONE guy in the group who RARELY takes shit for real and always feels the need to say something silly at the worst time.
    Also, I don't think it takes much to recognize that it would be significantly more responsible from a parenting perspective to simply leave mayday at home with mary jane, sure Peter's lowering chances of her catching harm, but it really doesn't justify the act within itself. Nor does the whole "He has mayday there to help calm down Miles" thing work, cuz if u told someone u straight up USED ur kid in a dangerous situation, they'd have more than enough reason to give u a really bad look.

      @@C0LIN. Yeah but that's the thing, the context doesn't really help. At the end of the day, the claim is still there that the parenting is irresponsible, the movie acknowledges this and doesn't even try to justify it. • @C0LIN.
      @C0LIN.  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      @@kitanasfans2328 The context literally does help, if you say "This guy was speeding in a car when he had people with him" that's a statement that doesn't have context. But if you add the context of "Well he was on an open road with no cars around and he's very good at driving" then it makes the situation look worse than previously framed.
      In the case of Peter B I explained why Sheev is making things sound worse than they actually are
      And I also tackled the point of the movie making a joke out of it... If someone says "I really shouldn't let you eat all this candy" that parent is technically being irresponsible for letting their child eat a little too much junk food, but they aren't really that irresponsible...

    • @kitanasfans2328
      @kitanasfans2328 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      @@C0LIN. But those "contexts" can just be used as an excuse to make a flimsy counterpoint if u ask me. This is something I noticed people do when there's criticisms towards the new Spider-Man game and how certain events played out in cutscenes.
      For instance if Kenny robbed a bank and held multiple people hostage at gunpoint and shot someone gravely injuring them and you added the context of "Well Kenny lost his job, no one's looking at his applications, and his rents due and he has no money and is gonna be homeless" sure, that's worth adding in, but it doesn't CHANGE the fact that Kenny still robbed a bank, held multiple people hostage and shot someone.
      Again, this ain't to say that peters a BAD parent, like I said we can all easily forgive this, but I don't think it takes away from the point made in reality. Especially when there were MANY dangers to Peters kid in this instance.
      I really wanna nail home that this doesn't ultimately harm the movie, nor Peter's character. It's just a thing where the complaint isn't entirely invalid, but still forgivable.

I would have liked if he just didn't bring his baby with him at all, personally i see nothing wrong with just leaving the baby with MJ.
    Sure Peter might have the capability of protecting her against most threats, but why put her in a dangerous situation to start with? To make this claim while also trying to make the argument that bringing her along was a bad idea doesn't make sense. That's not what I said, what I'm asking is, is it bad parenting for a cop to drive their kid to school in their squad car or to bring them into the police precinct, or a military officers to bring their family on base (which happens a lot irl and someone I know literally lives on a military base because his dad is in the army), or a firefighter to bring their kids to the fire station?
      Or is it bad that someone in one those professions, to bring their kid around/ talk about their work life.
      Which is the equivalent of Peter bringing Mayday around the Spider-HQ.
      I'm not saying people working in those professions should literally bring them on patrol, or into war, or into a burning house.
      However Peter bringing Mayday on the chase isn't really irresponsible or him being a bad parent, given the context of how he's tackling the situation that I LITERALLY WENT OVER IN THE VIDEO....

    Im 4 minutes in but I’ll have to turn this one off. It’s definitely a concern when taking this movie seriously that Peter gave her webshooters as she clearly isn’t ready. If this is going to be a lot of “source?” type responses to reasonable concerns I’m not very interested unfortunately
    One of the key things that makes this type of video good is how you counter someone’s argument, inviting them to prove their argument is not a quality response. The onus of proving why it’s unreasonable to give a toddler those TOOLS is not on the OG video maker, it’s on you to disprove it, as you indicating it isn’t is wildly more unreasonable a view prima facie than the opposite
    At the end of the day, while adults enjoy spiderman it’s still a light hearted kids film, so equally no one should be sitting here saying “the cartoon child with web shooters in a animated movie is a DISGRACE and I take it soooo seriously”. But that’s not your point, so I don’t agree with you

Even just on the basis of giving her a web shooter and involving her in the chase at all, as per the trampoline example, you really *dont* put a baby on a trampoline, even if supervised, there's too many what ifs for any reasonable parent. It's like if you give a baby a bottle of pills and now you have to watch them in case they go to eat one. Like, why the fuck would you give a baby even with powers, that level of power to either hurt themselves or run away. I don't get the comment of "but his watching her" and "You wouldn't allow your kid to use a pencil". If you put in her a crib without the shooter, she can't get out, give a shooter and she'll mess up the room and more likely hurt herself. And also yeah, we don't let toddlers use pencils? That's why crayons are made for? Even with a powerful baby, I'm pretty sure every parent is overprotective when it comes to there baby, so it's always come off as weird how little Peter seemed to put her in danger and not realize his the reason she is in danger.

Say in the future Peter b dies in his universe while mayday is still a kid (15/17 we’ll say because that’s the age range around miles and other spider people) what’s she gonna do not fight crime? That’s kinda the point of these stories, all in all I find it completely ridiculous that a fictional character is getting backlash for bringing a baby somewhere it’s like they want him to make a irl public apology 😭.
