I think they're classified as street level because that's what the majority of crimes and issues they face are. The problem here is that Peter never fully accepted "The Spider." He suppresses the spider to a great extent because he is afraid of what it might become. Despite this, he can do all this and still pull back his punches. We saw what he could become if he fully accepted the spider, when he changed his shell and was resurrected after being killed by Morlun. We saw a very, very small piece and it was magnificent. In fact, that version of Peter should have been the real "Superior Spiderman", with a well-written dark, harsh, cold story. Madame Web said that Peter was the center of the universal web. (I can't remember if it's in the animated series or the comics.) Long story short, "he is The One". Every other Spider-Man exists because Peter exists.
Exactly, the spider bite wasn’t only an accident, it was his destiny, and madam web confirmed that. Also even if they were the same age. Peter still wins because he holds back a lot of extra powers, unlike miles which has shown some such as the bio-electricity sword. Kane being his clone and showing that he has stingers, representing that Peter also has that ability and more if he just embraces the spider. And he’s so powerful even while holding back. His spider didn’t water down any of his abilities, this was never stated in any comic, if anything, his powers are generous, bc it would make more sense for miles to be faster than Peter due to the electricity flowing through his vains which should give him the edge on speed and reflexes.

By the very definition of the term, Peter is street level and it is 90% by choice. Peter is far more powerful than normal street level, but he is street level by choice. He chooses to help those out in the neighborhoods and city. But when needed, he steps up to help out with higher level threats as well.
Miles is NOT as strong as Peter was at the same age. Peter was literally finger flicking 30+ ton train cars and flipping them over and casually throwing 60 ton tanks at that age. Also Peter IS the smartest Spider-Man, he literally scored the same score as Reed Richards on IQ tests taken at the same age.
Comparing the spider variants (OG, Miles, Silk, Scarlet spider, Iron spider, Gwen) is like sitting a bunch of different players down to build RPG characters based off the same prompt... they have the same themes and (mostly) the same powers, but focus on different details... they're all built using the same pool of points (or whatever resources the game uses) bur they distribute them differently... and OG Peter Parker is simply the most balanced.
Yea, it’s like Mario in Smash or Ryu in Street fighter. Balanced fighters overall while other characters excel in other traits but lack in others. Miles has a more diverse moveset, Peter has been around a lot more and has experience and excels in his intelligence.

Nowadays, alternate versions of Spider-Man essentially have all of Peter’s abilities, and then some more. If I remember right, originally, Mile’s spider sense was a last second warning (giving him less time to react), and Miguel had/has no spider sense at all. I like it when there’s more nuance to the alternate Spider people’s abilities and power sets, versus them just outright being better than Peter.
I look at it as the variants having more abilities, but their base-level skills - strength, speed, and Spidey sense - are “watered down” compared to Peter.
Thank you for being honest... I've had this debate with so many younger people, I find it adorable how lovable Miles is... but no... Spidey has got this until Miles is mid-20's or a little older than that... it's not a race thing or an age thing... it the way the writers wrote them and Mile is not beating up Spidey without some type of enhancement or plot driven edge... I miss the non-emotional days... comic debate used to be so fun... now you might get labeled for having an opinion even if its based on facts and no emotion.

Really cool breakdown! At the end of the day, as Stan Lee said so long ago, when the writers want a character to win they will win. But most times the writers will want to give Peter the win, especially given most times them fighting is just to prevent something bad from happening which Peter will probably be on the right side of more often than not given his experience. But if Miles is the good guy of the story who's in the right, he will win against Peter hands down. Would love to see something like Alex Mercer vs the Flood, Alex Mercer vs Generator Rex, or either the Flood or Mercer vs Ben 10.
They keep giving Miles more powers because in there eyes more powerful = better character. You can tell with how they did Captain Marvel, they wanted her to be more prominent so made her stronger, in MCU they wanted her to be popular so made her the strongest MCU hero because these people are so surface level they think fans are simple and are like "if character b is stronger than character a they are a better character" not realizing that being a good character comes first. From my point of view, Miles has mostly been in the area of trying to break out of being a sidekick / apprentice. His stories are all about breaking out, finding his own way, finding his destiny, and he's always under / beside other Spider-Men/Women. A trope of Spider-Man as a character is to be vulnerable and need help from others. But Miles so much more. It's who he is - the struggle of breaking free of needing others. So of course Peter would easily beat him up. And this is because he is young, brash, and not a genius level intellect character. But he is basically Spider-Man with additional lightning and stealth abilities. If the roles were reversed (with Peter Parker filling the burgeoning apprentice role and Miles filling the elder master role) Miles could absolutely be viewed as more powerful, depending on how his other abilities have developed of course, but as the elder, he'd clobber Peter. The Spidey bite + human genes makes them ALL strong and fast, and mostly all of the Spideys pull their punches, so it's kind of moot to compare their strength and speed. A Spider-Man vs Spider-Man armwrestle would just last forever. Anyone seriously claiming one would beat the other isn't thinking things through and they're just fanboying xD

Reaction time doesnt really enter the conversation when you think about spider sense. That one ability makes Spiderman untouchable. He doesnt "react". His spider sense lets him know an attack is coming, and his body moves exactly how it needs to. Hes not even reacting. It just happens. He can dodge pretty much any attack with the same ease that comes from breathing

Peter also has stuff stashed all around the city just in case and can call stuff in. Peter is one of the smartest for a reason. 2 of the most important things he's not just smart at but the smartest in 1 and top5 in the other, and those are biology(Reed Richard's stated peter was smarter than him in biology) and meta physics(he had to teach Tony stark it) and that's all he needs to take out miles.
Its actually really simple: People think that bioelectricity of miles and the invisibility gives him an edge over Peter because he lacks it. But the guy is a specialist dealing with supervillians of electricity and anything elemental, and it's the go to guy when dealing with deceptive opponents because he is the guy that deals with mysterio. Nothing that miles can offer in a fight is something Peter hasn't seen yet. What's more, Peter knows how to deal with that so well thanks to his brain, That is an actual disadvantage to this point. That guy uses your powers against yourself. Literally. That's why actually he is so mentioned with batman that they got an actual comic together in a marvel x DC collaboration!
I still hate the fact there are multiple Spider-Men, Batmen(Bat family), Supermen, Hulks, Thors, Ironmen, Wolverines, etc. it destroys their originality and uniqueness.
I used to feel that way... but I just hate wolverine so much... x-23 is much more palatable to me lol. And the bat 'family' ... at least they aren't all called 'batman'... they've done some cool things with red hood and nightwing... And then I just don't care about superman or thor.. or hulk.. but more of each doesn't appeal to me either. I really just f'ing love x-23... and to me she was a great evolution of the concept of wolverine... a cloned female assassin designed to be the perfect killer... from early childhood, mentally mind broken... claws in her feet as well, less indestructible, but more agile and essentially, more deadly due to the foot blades.. she was just super sick. But then she joined the xmen and they began the process of making her less cool, until they gave her wolverines name, which again... I hate wolverine, to me that just was the nail in the coffin was the uniqueness that x-23 was. She never should have been given wolverines name. It's massively stupid. I guess they used up all the cool names that could be given to a character like that... you can't really top 'Lady Deathstrike' after all lol. .... but daken sucks, all wolverines sons suck. Old man wolverine gets a pass as his origin is so sick. And actually as a teen from the 90s... I loved Scarlett spider, he was my favourite... I like miles well enough. I think I do actually have nostalgia for the notion of spiderman having many iterations, clones etc. To me that kinda story conceit is something I've always associated with spiderman... again, due to growing up... really the clone saga was my introduction to comic books lol. I understand why you would hate it, but I think that it allows creative freedom to writers in the future without tarnishing the name or reputation of the original. It is a double edged sword when you consider how many bad iterations of these characters there are, but at the same time there have also been many really good stories that have been made because of this as well.
The real problem with legacy characters is they aren't allowed to be what they should. They are ment to be the next in line and take over after the former hero dies or cannot fight anymore, but we don't want to get rid of our old characters. I think ones like Spider-Man 2099 work best, when time separates them by so much the character can actually be themselves and both show what makes them unique and still be the new version of the classic. Also the Batfam is not really something that "diminishes the character of Batman" they have been there to some degree since the beginning. Robin was in Batman number 1. The Green Lantern Corp is closer to diminishing than the Batfam, and that is saying something.
To be fair, Peter Parker has more additional abilities than Miles Marales. There are four of them, namely Organic Web, Toxic Stingers, Mark of Kane and Night Vision. Spider-Man had all these abilities in the comics and in the films of the 2000s, but the editors of the comics decided that Peter would use them as little as possible, since they made him too strong and overpowered a superhero. There is a similar story between Superman and Batman, because readers are more interested in Bruce Wayne than in Clark Kent, who is stuffed with many abilities!
Correction, miles is not as strong as peter when they were roughly the same age. During the If this be my destiny story, Peter was crushed underground by a machine that was supporting the weight of the lab underwater. That machine has been weighed to be around a 128 tons, and if you account for the additional water resistance from the entire ocean, peter was somehow doing Savage hulk level lifts when he was around 17. Both of them have completely different levels of growth when it comes to strength.

Miles was met with a lot of backlash in his book, but he was given a chance he's continued to this day proven he's earned. I think the experience is the kicker, but for different reasons ,when you have experienced pain and suffering it hardens you both mentally and physically, if you know the history of the OG spidey then you know he has been through the ringer, to the point of a feign death spending a week literally in a coffin buried in his grave.(courtesy of kraven the hunter). The problem here is that Peter never fully accepted "The Spider." He suppresses the spider to a great extent because he is afraid of what it might become. Despite this, he can do all this and still pull back his punches. We saw what he could become if he fully accepted the spider, when he changed his shell and was resurrected after being killed by Morlun. We saw a very, very small piece and it was magnificent. In fact, that version of Peter should have been the real "Superior Spiderman", with a well-written dark, harsh, cold story. Madame Web said that Peter was the center of the universal web. (I can't remember if it's in the animated series or the comics.) Long story short, "he is The One". Every other Spider-Man exists because Peter exists.

His spider didn’t water down any of his abilities, this was never stated in any comic, if anything, his powers are generous, bc it would make more sense for miles to be faster than Peter due to the electricity flowing through his vains which should give him the edge on speed and reflexes.

Miles is NOT as strong as Peter was at the same age. Peter was literally finger flicking 30+ ton train cars and flipping them over and casually throwing 60 ton tanks at that age. Also Peter IS the smartest Spider-Man, he literally scored the same score as Reed Richards on IQ tests taken at the same age.
Comparing the spider variants (OG, Miles, Silk, Scarlet spider, Iron spider, Gwen) is like sitting a bunch of different players down to build RPG characters based off the same prompt... they have the same themes and (mostly) the same powers, but focus on different details... they're all built using the same pool of points (or whatever resources the game uses) bur they distribute them differently... and OG Peter Parker is simply the most balanced.
Yea, it’s like Mario in Smash or Ryu in Street fighter. Balanced fighters overall while other characters excel in other traits but lack in others. Miles has a more diverse moveset, Peter has been around a lot more and has experience and excels in his intelligence.

Nowadays, alternate versions of Spider-Man essentially have all of Peter’s abilities, and then some more. If I remember right, originally, Mile’s spider sense was a last second warning (giving him less time to react), and Miguel had/has no spider sense at all. I like it when there’s more nuance to the alternate Spider people’s abilities and power sets, versus them just outright being better than Peter.

I look at it as the variants having more abilities, but their base-level skills - strength, speed, and Spidey sense - are “watered down” compared to Peter.

Thank you for being honest... I've had this debate with so many younger people, I find it adorable how lovable Miles is... but no... Really cool breakdown! At the end of the day, as Stan Lee said so long ago, when the writers want a character to win they will win. But most times the writers will want to give Peter the win, especially given most times them fighting is just to prevent something bad from happening which Peter will probably be on the right side of more often than not given his experience. But if Miles is the good guy of the story who's in the right, he will win against Peter hands down.
Would love to see something like Alex Mercer vs the Flood, Alex Mercer vs Generator Rex, or either the Flood or Mercer vs Ben 10.
They keep giving Miles more powers because in there eyes more powerful = better character. You can tell with how they did Captain Marvel, they wanted her to be more prominent so made her stronger, in MCU they wanted her to be popular so made her the strongest MCU hero because these people are so surface level they think fans are simple and are like "if character b is stronger than character a they are a better character" not realizing that being a good character comes first. From my point of view, Miles has mostly been in the area of trying to break out of being a sidekick / apprentice. His stories are all about breaking out, finding his own way, finding his destiny, and he's always under / beside other Spider-Men/Women. A trope of Spider-Man as a character is to be vulnerable and need help from others. But Miles so much more. It's who he is - the struggle of breaking free of needing others. So of course Peter would easily beat him up.
And this is because he is young, brash, and not a genius level intellect character.
But he is basically Spider-Man with additional lightning and stealth abilities. If the roles were reversed (with Peter Parker filling the burgeoning apprentice role and Miles filling the elder master role) Miles could absolutely be viewed as more powerful, depending on how his other abilities have developed of course, but as the elder, he'd clobber Peter.
The Spidey bite + human genes makes them ALL strong and fast, and mostly all of the Spideys pull their punches, so it's kind of moot to compare their strength and speed. A Spider-Man vs Spider-Man armwrestle would just last forever. Anyone seriously claiming one would beat the other isn't thinking things through and they're just fanboying xD

His spider sense lets him know an attack is coming, and his body moves exactly how it needs to. Hes not even reacting. It just happens. He can dodge pretty much any attack with the same ease that comes from breathing

Peter also has stuff stashed all around the city just in case and can call stuff in. Peter is one of the smartest for a reason. 2 of the most important things he's not just smart at but the smartest in 1 and top5 in the other, and those are biology(Reed Richard's stated peter was smarter than him in biology) and meta physics(he had to teach Tony stark it) and that's all he needs to take out miles.

Its actually really simple: People think that bioelectricity of miles and the invisibility gives him an edge over Peter because he lacks it. But the guy is a specialist dealing with supervillians of electricity and anything elemental, and it's the go to guy when dealing with deceptive opponents because he is the guy that deals with mysterio.
Nothing that miles can offer in a fight is something Peter hasn't seen yet. What's more, Peter knows how to deal with that so well thanks to his brain, That is an actual disadvantage to this point. That guy uses your powers against yourself. Literally. That's why actually he is so mentioned with batman that they got an actual comic together in a marvel x DC collaboration!

I still hate the fact there are multiple Spider-Men, Batmen(Bat family), Supermen, Hulks, Thors, Ironmen, Wolverines, etc. it destroys their originality and uniqueness.
I used to feel that way... but I just hate wolverine so much... x-23 is much more palatable to me lol.
And the bat 'family' ... at least they aren't all called 'batman'... they've done some cool things with red hood and nightwing...
And then I just don't care about superman or thor.. or hulk.. but more of each doesn't appeal to me either.
I really just f'ing love x-23... and to me she was a great evolution of the concept of wolverine... a cloned female assassin designed to be the perfect killer... from early childhood, mentally mind broken... claws in her feet as well, less indestructible, but more agile and essentially, more deadly due to the foot blades.. she was just super sick.
But then she joined the xmen and they began the process of making her less cool, until they gave her wolverines name, which again... I hate wolverine, to me that just was the nail in the coffin was the uniqueness that x-23 was.
She never should have been given wolverines name. It's massively stupid.
I guess they used up all the cool names that could be given to a character like that... you can't really top 'Lady Deathstrike' after all lol.

And actually as a teen from the 90s... I loved Scarlett spider, he was my favourite... I like miles well enough. I think I do actually have nostalgia for the notion of spiderman having many iterations, clones etc. To me that kinda story conceit is something I've always associated with spiderman... again, due to growing up... really the clone saga was my introduction to comic books lol. I just never actually cared about spiderman as much as xmen.

I understand why you would hate it, but I think that it allows creative freedom to writers in the future without tarnishing the name or reputation of the original. It is a double edged sword when you consider how many bad iterations of these characters there are, but at the same time there have also been many really good stories that have been made because of this as well.

The real problem with legacy characters is they aren't allowed to be what they should. They are ment to be the next in line and take over after the former hero dies or cannot fight anymore, but we don't want to get rid of our old characters. I think ones like Spider-Man 2099 work best, when time separates them by so much the character can actually be themselves and both show what makes them unique and still be the new version of the classic. Also the Batfam is not really something that "diminishes the character of Batman" they have been there to some degree since the beginning. Robin was in Batman number 1. The Green Lantern Corp is closer to diminishing than the Batfam, and that is saying something.

To be fair, Peter Parker has more additional abilities than Miles Marales. There are four of them, namely Organic Web, Toxic Stingers, Mark of Kane and Night Vision. Spider-Man had all these abilities in the comics and in the films of the 2000s, but the editors of the comics decided that Peter would use them as little as possible, since they made him too strong and overpowered a superhero. There is a similar story between Superman and Batman, because readers are more interested in Bruce Wayne than in Clark Kent, who is stuffed with many abilities!

Miles was a kid who fell into Peter's origin he saw something he thought he could prevent and didn't. Cause he was a scared 12 year old kid.
Miles was met with a lot of backlash in his book, but he was given a chance he's continued to this day proven he's earned. Maybe it's weird having so many people with one title, but that doesn't mean none of them haven't earned it. Otto, Ben, Miguel have all proven they're Spider-Man.

However given enough time he's been molded into his own character. Allowing for movies like into the spider verse to be made. Certain characters aren't given that treatment and it's unfortunate. They're simply left as a knock off of their predecessors.

miles is and always will be second rate pandering. Peter all the way, miles and o'hara, even ben are all just inconsequential to me. I'll always be a Spider-Man fan, the real Peter.
I think the experience is the kicker, but for different reasons ,when you have experienced pain and suffering it hardens you both mentally and physically, if you know the history of the OG spidey then you know he has been through the ringer, to the point of a feign death spending a week literally in a coffin buried in his grave.(courtesy of kraven the hunter). This is why I think those whose experiences have "molded them into marble" are tougher, hence why OG is harder he's DIAMOND!
