    I cover my electrical parts as a precaution.. If you don't I'm sure it's fine .. I just can't afford any issues minor or large I wash my car every week .. One is a minor wash down and then I wash it really good once a month wich includes vacuuming and using my engine towels and brushes (paint bushes) and engine cleaner. I like it if a mechanic looks into my engine and smiles because everything is ideal and he can clearly see any issues. I also assure them I'm not flooding the engine just routine maintenance. Cleaning doesn't require every single time I go all in for a few hours.. Cleaning out, vacuum mild detergents to wipe down the insides .. Rims don't have to shine but be clean .. My wife should have no issue driving any car in the house. I get not everyone is into car cleaning.. I know a few years ago a relative said they knew I was sick because my car was not right. So it's not a ever person kind of thing

    this is safe.. i got my bnew car 6 years ago in Toyota Makati. the day im goin to get the car out of casa, the supervisor said the car is upstairs for inspection and washing. i said i want to see how they do it. to my surprise, they even use a pale of water to rinse the engine😂😁 with no plastic cover or anything. modern cars can withstands that amount of water- the supervisor said. to date my engine still intact- no repairs on electrical etc..

    This is an example of what NOT to do when detailing an engine. Not covering all the parts mentioned by others is a recipe for disaster.

      You can cover yours.. Ive been doing this from long time now. Never had any issue. Using it daily for 4 yrs now. Just make sure to give enough time to dry it out. But you can use precautions no one stopping you..

    I see some people in the comments worried about the water, if you're really paranoid about this stuff just cover the engine with a trash bag, disconnect the battery and it should be fine

    I must ask, is it or isn’t it safe to spray water all over the engine and battery? I legit thought it was unsafe.

    I flinched when you spayed water over the uncovered ECU, alternator and fuse box without disconnecting the battery ground. Even if you've done this many times, there's surely moisture that creeps in those electrical contacts which will haunt you later on.

      @@paul28 yeah you are lucky you did not encounter any problem yet. those delicate parts are built to withstand small amount of water but it can still be damage by water. YOU DON'T EVEN REMOVE THE BATTERY or at least the negative terminal to avoid short circuiting something just in case water manage to get in in those delicate parts he mentioned. It is never bad to be extra cautious. Better covered those exposed electricals with heavy duty aluminum foil, plastics especially the ECU, alternator, fuse box, air intake, air sensor etc. Then you are 100% sure water won't damage those. It is good though that you did not use a high pressure water.

      Been 4 years now and did clean it multiple times like this, same for my other toyotas and never had any single issue till date. If your really concern or scared then cover it. Im ok with not covering. I see dealership when they do engine wash they spray all over. Just give enough time to dry it.

    So when I wash the engine .. I can put water all over the electrical components? Or do I have to cover all electrical components before washing?

    • @trojandude3127
      @trojandude3127 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      better cover the alternator (alternators are built to withstand small amount of water but it can still be damage by water), cover ECU, FUSE BOX, ALTERNATOR, AIR INTAKE, AIR SENSOR, etc with heavy duty aluminum foil and plastic. REMOVE THE BATTERY OR THE NEGATIVE TERMINAL to make sure that short circuit won't happen. Then you are free to hose water in your engine bay. OH I FORGOT ALSO MAKE SURE THAT THE DIPSTICK FOR ENGINE OIL IS TIGHT AND CLOSE YOU DON'T WANT WATER TO GET INSIDE THE ENGINE. Don't use high pressure water because those electrical wirings are sensitive to pressure. now after drying I would advise to leave the NEGATIVE TERMINAL of the battery unattached for couple of hours or until morning if you are not going to use your car. Why? just to make sure that all parts inside the engine bay are ALL dry and short ciruit won't happen.

    Wait I have 2016 Toyota Corolla same car just like that but is it safe to clean your engine without any electrical problems

    • @ETA5G
      @ETA5G 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well to be safe just cover your alternator, fuse box with a plastic bag

    • @trojandude3127
      @trojandude3127 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ETA5G you are right. not encountering the problem of not putting a cover in those delicate parts before cleaning it with water is not an excuse. You maybe lucky but not other people's cars.
