    With how Windows is putting more focus on ARM support, I think the tab series could make for a great dual boot tablet in the future. There's already a project to allow some older SD chips (I think 855?) to run Windows and they work really well so it's looking feasible!

      A shame samsung probably just wouldn't give this even if it could the functionality. They can't even give the a-series DEX to run second screen or something.

    It's been a couple months now since I've bought this tablet and it is great. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxAxiUS5CgVC3j8FwNOHt037zhsquGQpXv The tablet is responsive and runs well. There were a few times that the tablet did an awkward thing where it would detect pen on at all times and wouldn't register finger press, but it is usually fixed by closing and opening either the screen or app. This is highly likely due to my excessive use for drawing which caused this and wasn't really very big. As I mostly enjoy using the tablet for drawing (and some light gaming), I would comment from that aspect that there is definitely more accurate pressure and drawing using a PC device and drawing tablet, however i find the moveablity of the tablet more enjoyable to draw on. Like how you can physically rotate and move a piece of paper around or even draw casually on your bed.All in all, as a tablet it is good, and as a drawing device can be good depending on what you want from a drawing device. It is definitely good enough if you just want to use it to take notes. For typing though I can't comment on the keyboard as I did not get the keyboard.

    This thing was love at first sight for me, but my Tab S6 is still in perfect condition so I have no reason to upgrade. My one worry was that the Ultra would see low demand, which could lead to it being a one-time thing. I don't think I have to worry about that now. I'll upgrade once the Tab S9 Ultra comes around, or maybe even the S10 Ultra.

    I went to Best Buy to check out their demo models of the Tab S8 series and was pleasantly surprised that the Ultra doesn't look "too big" in person. Out of context in TH-cam videos it looks enormous, but live it just looks like a moderately bigger tablet. It's thin - really thin - which helps a lot. I'm glad I switched my pre-order from the S8+ to the Ultra, even though I have to wait longer to get it. Don't be put off by the size of the Ultra until you see it in person.

    The great thing for me on my tab s7+ is that I can Parsec to my tower and do all actual work remotely, while maintaining the amazing battery life of an ARM OS. A shame that no one talks about this, since this isnt possible on iOS.

    • @sebastianorye2702
      @sebastianorye2702 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's great for you, however, if you are in the range of your tower, why not just plug your tablet in. Anyway, generally speaking, IOS devices are super-efficient and don't need that exactly. Just look at the difference between the 120hz and 60hz display on the Tab S8 compared to the iPad Pro.

    • @ze_or
      @ze_or 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I never used parsec so I don't know what exactly I'm missing if anything, but I've been using the build in remote desktop for windows 10 pro on my tower to connect from my ipad and it's been working great.
      I usually do this for solidworks, and even all the touch screen functions work as intended. I ditched my actual windows laptop because the speed benefit from straight up better hardware was totally worth the nearly unnoticeable lag.

    • @lukaseisele9512

      @@ze_or Thats awesome! Then we basically had the same Idea! The only thing that the built-in Remote Desktop cant do but parsec can, is more grafically advanced stuff. I'm a professional artist and use wacom Cintiq 24 pt daily (that one with no screen protector because it has etched glass), I've also use/used, most of the Note and Tab S lineup. I've Also used the Ipad with the apple pencil, but despite it being good, It doesn't work with my ecosystem of windows/android(also charging the pen drove me crazy). Also in all s-pens and wacom pens, you can change the tip to other materials, I use felt nib pens for extra friction (because I'm very light handed when drawing, or else I experience pain at night after working)

      "Is it still a tablet?" It depends in what you want to define as "tablet". If "tablet" is defined by flat touchscreen device with no physical keyboard, then, keep in mind that (medicinal & supplemental) tablets come in various sizes, some large, some small. Years ago, there was a touchscreen tablet much larger than this (2x bigger). Also, keep in mind, Wacom, Huion, and other pen tablets offer as much as 24" in size.

    As a professional musician myself, I find the larger screens much easier to read sheet music on from a distance of around 3-4 feet. I bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE just for the screen size and this newer S8 Ultra seems like a great option for musicians looking for a tablet that can easily replace paper sheet music.

    I watched this video on my Samsung Tab S7+. Though this new tablet intrigues me, I already feel that the S7+ is too a bit unwealdy; I don't think I could handle the extra 2" of screen. There also didn't seem to be a huge upgrade besides the chipset between the S7 and the S8 So I'll stick with my S7+ for this generation. All the Samsung tablets are absolutely excellent though. If you personally are considering buying one, you'll love it.

    I'm guessing most reviewers who complain about the brightness (or lack thereof) of the Ultra don't realize that OLED screens are never as bright as LCD are, and more likely to get burn in with brighter screens anyway. I am completely in the Apple ecosystem -- tons of devices -- but I bought the Ultra because it fits a need that the iPad 12.9" (I have an older gen 12.9") doesn't satisfy because of the bigger screen and wider aspect ratio on the Ultra. Perfect for videos and comic viewing, which is primarily what I bought it for. Don't love the notch and not a fan of the Samsung Android version but very happy with the screen, the build quality, and the battery life. Wish I could get Second Screen to work with my work Windows 10 PC at home but I haven't had success. Nonetheless, this is a great tablet for certain uses and I would get it if you want it for media consumption, including comics, which is a much better experience than a 12.9" iPad Pro.

    The Samsung S8 models present an interesting proposition for Android phone users and PC users to maintain a continuous ecosystem between phone and tablet. As a mechanical engineer, PC enthusiast, and Apple iPhone, iPad Pro, and Apple Watch owner and user, I prefer the power and availability of professional applications on the iPad Pro. Since I also own an aerial drone photography and videography company, the ability to edit high-resolution photos and 4K video on either my desktop work stations, laptop Dell XPS 15, or my 2021 12.9" 512 GB iPad Pro is quite appealing. I do however agree that the S8 Ultra provides a better value proposition with the included keyboard and S-Pen in comparison to the iPad Pro lineup. I hope the Samsung S8 series of tablets are successful, more competition in the high-end/Professional tablet space would ultimately be beneficial to the consumer in the end. I Dave's inclusion of the launch video of the Mercedes-AMG F1 W13 2022 challenger.

    As about the brightness, it can go up to 600 nits if you turn on auto- brightness (without it is indeed limited to 400 nits), however with HDR content the measured peak brightness is 800 nits (you need to activate the bright video mode in the advanced featues for this) which is insane as most of the modern OLED TV-s can't reach this level. So yeah, screen- ways it is a real monster. The rest of the review is great ;)

    Good video mate.
    Pity the chipset is underclocked , also the not overly bright display is a bit of a downer too coming from Samsung, I was almost going to change my plans from getting the IPad Pro , I’ll stick with the iPad I think .
    Owning galaxy notes I do like Sammy’s S pen technology, but the dull display and the knobbled chipset are deal breakers for me .
    And I am in total agreement that more bezel to make handling the device and general use better is fact ,
    Also this penchant for manufacturers to continually strive to make devices so ridiculously utterly thin that it compromises the hardware and use of the device utterly dumbfounds me .
    And you would have to assume being so bloody thin , that if the worst happens and your device gets sat on even by a toddler or some one leans on it by accident , you are probably going to be up for either a new device or some expensive repairs.
    If someone offered me an almost identical tablet that was 3 or 4 mm thicker with bigger bezels and had less compromises already mentioned even if this was heavier I’d be all over it.
    Who knows , if it was a tad thicker perhaps they could have added more cooling to use the chip more to its potential, maybe even added a headphone jack as well and a brighter display .

Also this is a new first gen screen, I think we should praise Samsung instead for actually putting a high refresh rate OLED panel in a tablet of this size (while most manufactures are still using stone age LCDs in their latest laptops/tablets), they seem to be the only manufacture actually trying to use new technology in their devices.

    I'm sorry, but the size of this tablet pushes me away completely. I actually bought an iPad Mini last year because I wanted a small, portable tablet that is also comfortable to use in bed. Why does everything need to be BIGGER?? I thought tablets were meant to be easy to transport and use in your hands, not essentially set up as a laptop.
    If I want a big, but portable screen, I'll buy a laptop that's so much more powerful. I can see the use case if you want this device to be everything (desktop, laptop, tablet), but if you can afford separate devices for your primary PC and a tablet, I think it's best to keep them separate

    I will buy the S8+ and not the Ultra because the pixel density drops after each size upgrade, and from the Plus to the Ultra is the most significant drop. The battery on the plus is 2000 mAh bigger than the normal one, but the Ultra is only 1200mAh bigger than the Plus one. The bezels on Ultra are very thin, perfect for static work, but very difficult to handle when holding it in the hands. I'm not going to lie to you. Dave, you mentioned function. However, I believe that as we get bigger and bigger with these tablets, they get less and less competitive, since the bigger they get, the more painful it is to compare a product like this to a 13-14 inch Notebook, a category that wipes up the floor with this tablet. Just take a look at what Asus has created with the G14, or with that 13-inch tablet monster. Who is gonna buy something like this if these Notebooks are there as well? Tablet makes sense between 8" and 11" in my opinion. Anything above that starts to lose what made it good in the first place.

      As a college STEM student, I use my s7 fe for 8 hours a day. I use all 12.4". Really helpful for textbooks and notes at the same time. I might appreciate the extra space on the s8 ultra, but I'll probably upgrade to the s9+ since it might be too much space, and the s7 fe serves my needs as of now (even though there is some lag as I'm working due to 4gb ram).
      However, I think art students would get the most use out of this. The color palette on your phone feature + the extra space + free spen that feels like a pencil on paper is pretty good. Those students could really get the most use out of this. And with luma fusion support incoming, i think that would make it even better for college creatives. Though there is a case to be made for something like the surface pro 8 if you are not in the samsung ecosystem.
      Pricing wise I think mostly people already in the Samsung ecosystem will get the best deals. I got my s7 fe for $400 off of ebay new. Samsung is offering $500 for it with a trade in. I think that's how they get people to pay the price of the ultra.

      @@itsasadbunny It was actually an Android limitation for quite a while that it couldn't handle the realtime audio processing as well, so it just didn't happen. Making an Android equivalent bordered too difficult to be worth it and not possible. Heck I remember one app I used that actually offloaded the audio processing to the cloud because that was a better solution than trying to do it realtime on Android. That issue pretty much cemented iOS as the mobile audio production king to this day even though that issue was fixed years ago. Now the market for it just isn't really there because of Android not being capable of it for so many years that iOS was able to dominate the mobile audio product market. From a dev perspective, people who want audio production on a phone/tablet still see iOS as the only option due to Android's audio shortcomings for years, no good reason to go after such a small market.
