Fujicolor C200 Review | The Cheapest 35mm Film

  • When I made my start with 35mm film photography, Fujicolor C200 was the stock that I captured most of my images with because the lab that I used at the time handed out a free roll of C200 for every roll dropped off to be developed and scanned. Though as I've learned more about film photography I've become distracted by all the other options that I can shoot with so I haven't shot much C200 since or really any Fujifilm at all since. Until now...

    Just shot a roll of Fujicolor 200 for the first time last Christmas. The high quality of the images literally shocked me! Excellent sharpness and color saturation. Yes, the film is inexpensive - but most definitely - it’s not cheap. It has earned my highest regard.

      It’s price has gone up significantly since I made this review sadly 🙃
      That’s the funny thing about these reviews I guess, they’re essentially time capsules - and as the landscape of film changes, they’re a reminder of a not so distant past

    Great video man and some nice pics.👌🏻 I absolutely love shooting C200 it's probably my favourite film stock, It's reliable but quirky at the same time. Superia extra over exposed is beautiful too and I love it for studio, I can't stand Kodak gold it's just too yellow for me but ultra max and pro 100 are a little better.
    Keep them coming I'm here for videos like this!
    Love from Portugal 🇵🇹

    It is also my daily ration. Only that in the dark environment, the graininess of the film is a bit big.

    Down here in Brazil one of the most ubiquitous Fujifilm stock negative was the Fuji Quality 100. Sadly, I haven't come across one of these negatives in ages... I'd love to have that feel of Fuji colors again. Maybe I'll import some rolls to satisfy that craving! Ah, btw, the best Fuji negative I've shot so far was the - sadly - discontinued Reala. Man, talk about perfection.

      What do you come across and where do you find it? Do you have to buy online or are there any stores?

      @zenitpro 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DaniloAllen Well, I live in the state of Rio, not in the city. There are stores that still sell stock film in the city of Rio, but not in my city anymore. Buying online is the way to go, but prices are quite steep, as they go way over 10 dollars per roll. Such a shame.

    200 speed is high speed if you consider historical context. 50 used to be "normal speed" . "grain is why we shoot film, why professionals shoot film" - while I agree with the sentiment, I think I choose film more for the dynamic range and the fact that usually its the highlights having more detail than the shadows and not the other way round.

    I’be started using film cameras a while ago and every time I develop the roll (fujifilm c200), some of the pictures have red or green “staines” and it’s kind of annoying because it takes part of the picture away. I’ve used two different cameras and they both have this problem. Should I maybe stock the rolls in the fridge? Or is it because I often shoot with flash?

    Analogue Wonderland in the UK has recently got stock of a this and is charging £10 a roll. It seems that supply is currently very limited so the price has gone up.

    • @LgsPhotography
      @LgsPhotography 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Damn that's expensive! Last time I was in London (pre covid 2019) I got a 3 pack for 9£! I really hope Fuji ups it's game because I don't want to be stuck with Kodak 😣

    • @DaniloAllen
      @DaniloAllen  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wow that is expensive! Hopefully it doesn't stay that expensive for too long, cheap films aren't really worth it in my opinion if they're not cheap

      Colour film prices seem to have shot up since I last purchased. Fuji way more expensive than the Kodak. Crazy stuff.

    I have an old canon t 50 lying around my house and I really wanna use it but here in nepal I hardly could find any films. I found a dude selling kodak elite chrome for about 7 dollars. And its date goes back to 2007. Do you think it is worth buying or even usable knowing the fact that its 14 years old?

    • @DaniloAllen
      @DaniloAllen  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow - Nepal! If your okay to spend that knowing that you might not get any images - why not? It’d be fun to see how it goes, could make for an interesting experience.

    It's pretty much non-existent in the UK. Rumours are it's being slowly discontinued. I went to the Fujifilm store near Piccadilly Circus a month ago - the sales assistant told me she's worked there since October and C200 has been out of stock the entire time, with no restocks...

    • @DaniloAllen
      @DaniloAllen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's funny to hear - as far as I've seen here in Australia we haven't had any C200 shortages. Mostly we've had a lot of Kodak stuff out of stock. There's supply chain problems all over with film at the moment because of the pandemic - hopefully we're headed towards a world soon enough without these shortages. I've been trying to get my hands on Portra 800 for a few months now to no avail.

      I can confirm, october 2021in Gwrnany is already hard to find. 8 EUR per roll already became a good price, some started to sell gor 9 or 10 EUR per canister.

    • @bradleybull1787
      @bradleybull1787 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I found a place selling it for £7.99 in the UK a couple of months back but that is a rarity. £10 is standard here, but then again sterling inflation is climbing steadily.
