It's amazing to me that people still believe what comes out of Fuji's mouth when it comes to film.

I don’t think they say much at all unfortunately 🤐

You can surely buy all kind of films in Japan … if you know, where. 😉 Best option around Tokyo for example is Champ Camera in Yokohama ( four stores there ) or Camera Suzuki at the Yokohama Station ( Joinus ). A huge variety of films there, even exotic expired ones. So, next time, you come to Japan and need something, let me know. 🖖🏻🤓

Excellent tips Otto! I hope to be back in Japan later this year and will visit those stores for sure!

Thanks for another great video. I love Japan! Amazing. And I really like your Jozankei video. So calm. Visual meditation.

Great video Matt. Can't wait to get back to Nakano Broadway like what we were talking about at the Camera Fair!

You spooked me - just ordered some online while I can!

Sounds very familiar with all the empty shelves. As I don't travel far enough to fly anymore, I won't have the hand check issue - but I'd probably be more inclined to only shoot digital, if I did.

Yes a lot of film photographers are unsure of what to do now with the new scanners 😢

The Fuji freezer is about out of film!

I suspect Fuji have gone the same way as Roland in the music world and are focusing soley on new tech. It's a purely econmics driven decision with these huge corporations.

What good is the new tech when you can't even get that, as well. The way things are going, they'll be flat out getting chips to build new sensors on if this shortage keeps up. Might as well take up painting!!!😝😝

Minute 4:00 that lone roll of Provia 35mm 😹 When I started 120, bought off a Fuji 6x9 off Japan and then, 2014, man. Japanexposures shop and the Japan only offerings (hello 220). I managed to snatch a propack of 160NS 220 that still lingers in my fridge waiting for an epic long haul trip to Asia. Yesterday here in Stockholm I bought 400H still stocked locally, last batch 1-2024.
Ironically the price of these stocks is still lower compared to Kodak but that is due to it being in the distributing channels. Being optimistic, and given the temporal production halt Fuji had, it could be that they need to reconsolidate manufacturing. Alas, it's very patchy and have some cravings for Velvia...
Following John SYpal of Tokyocamerastyle I had a good view of availability in Japan, after 2017 or so, the prices shot up and not anymore are there those amazing Yodabashi fridges full of film.
Wanna travel with my GW690 more, at least I will within EU timing before CT scanners are phased in everywhere. Then it'll be pray for handchecks or lead lined bags + logistics.

Yeah hopefully Fujifilm will start more production, that would be so good! I’m actually wondering if I should take any Polaroid with me on an upcoming trip due to the CT scanner issue 😭

The Kyoto film shelf has really shrunk... They used to have fridge full of film in 2019...

Should do an episode "Is there any film left in Australia"!!!! It's just as bad out here. I honestly think that the big imaging companies like Kodak and Fuji, etc, are just trying to push film into extinction because they want to dump the manufacturing of film altogether. Stupid thing is they're having trouble getting chips to produce camera sensors, as are everyone else. So, they might just lose out in both regards.

My local store has plenty but it’s marked up 20-25%. Anywhere online with reasonable pricing, sold out. Pretty frustrating for colour. At least Ilford still know how to make film. I swear if they ever decided to set up to make colour film, they’d rattle the universe.

That's happen when you do not make any sort of research at all in the country you are visiting. Film can be found, at a cost, in specialized shop. What you visited are the equivalent of a supermarket of electronics...

    • @MattLovesCameras

I went to quite a few specialist camera stores, not just Bic and Yodobashi. Most colour negative film was Kodak. Sadly I never got to Champ Camera in Yokohama.
