It makes sense we shouldn't be eating rock salt. We need celery and greens. From what I was told, animals only use salt licks when they are low on greens and, therefore, sodium.

Dr. Popper is right. Very few people can go directly from the SAD to vegan sos. In my case it took time. I started by adding fruits and veggies. Then a week later I stopped processed food. The following week I stopped animal products. The week after I stopped added salt. If I had tried to do it all at once, I don't think I could have. Yes if I had the money to go inpatient to True North or Furman Retreat I could have done cold turkey. In real life change is hard and there are many moving parts to the equation. As a layperson I say do whatever it takes time reach the goal of a healthy diet even if sustainability means a slightly slower route. What is a month or two trajectory to healthy diet compared to the rest of your life? Very little time. Some of us need baby steps.

What a great conversation. They all have really valid points. I love Dr. Fuhrman's knowledge about sodium toxicity, but he's wrong about human's not seeking out salt in our natural environment. Salt at one time was more valuable than gold and was traded like a commodity because it was so important for human health. Also love Pam Popper's statements. She is maybe the only one who is actually dealing with the majority of people in their "natural habitat." She's right.

If I had known all the things in this video I would have tried harder. Now, I'm finally convinced to cut the salt. It's not fair to withhold this information just because you think people will not even try to eat better because it's too much to deal with. Not fair at all. Tell the truth, and let us decide for ourselves and we can start with the basics and improve from there. Just help people get over the all or nothing attitude because it's that attitude that leads to failure, not the truth.

It is actually true. There are certain animals that do seek out salts and will climb on ridges in order to get to them.
But that is because they require it and should not be compared to humans needs. We don't need to aquire salts as they do.

Lack of added and preadded salt can lead to reduced stomach acid in half. And this leads to problems. I went to WFPBSOS diet to reduce my BP from 140/90 to 105/70 and lower and stop pills. But I had constant heartburn, chest pain and throat pain without knowing the reason. I read that lack of salt can increase cholesterol and TG. My TC and LDL only decreased slightly. My TG increased a lot. So I am adding salt to my food (no processed food) and I already have improvement in my heartburn. No effect on BP yet. I had no problem ditching salt from taste perspective. No addiction problem there. How are people with no salt consumption getting Cl to produce stomach acid? I have no problem eating no salt but how to produce enough stomach acid? Where to get Cl from? I do not buy this compliance issue - when it is up to health people comply.

You can reduce your salt slowly over time to avoid passing out. If you are at very little or no salt after some time you are fine, even when doing sports. He said all of it.

This is wrong. They’re basing they’re studies off of people you eat the standard American diet. We need good sodium and a lot of it specially when we’re working out or doing a lot of physical activity. Sodium is a very important electrolyte. Processed salts are the problem not natural salt

Yeah sodium is a very important electrolyte, what he said though was that we take all we need from natural foods, no need to add anything on top. Also we don't just lose sodium when we work out, he specifically talked about this! It's the excess salt we eat that gets excreted with sweat. If you cut adding salt, your body will retain the one it gets from natural foods and it won't go away with your sweat, you'll just sweat.
