I fast for 17-20 Hrs 4-5 days a week, and on a day, I relax from fasting. Exercise almost every day. Also, I fast for 24 hours 3 times a month.
Note: I only eat twice a day.
Food: Protein, Cruciferous veges, hot broth and lot's of salmon, olives', avocados, and extra virging olive oil.. My carbs are under 30 grams.
I swear my inflammation is gone, more energy, especially in the am, clear mind and positivity, pain in joints gone.
    Challenge: staying consistent.
Take care care of your gut.

I have lost almost 90 pounds (88.2) by not eating between meals- at first: twelve hours no food after dinner at night until breakfast, then I extended it going 18 hours before eating, now I do the OMAD which feels good. (This all occurred over 5 years.) I am no longer able to eat more than one meal a day, if I try I am soooo full to the point of being ill. It has become difficult to lose that last 2.8 pounds to get from 235 to 145. Yesterday I was 146.8. I think I have been doing time restricted eating which is for me eat between 12 noon and 1PM. Then a nap. I do not become hungry until late at night when I sleep. Coffee at 6AM maybe a biscotti or 2 then eat a meal as described. I walk between 1 and 2 hours a day. I am no longer diabetic and I take half as much BP meds. But I have lost muscle. You have given me good information. Thank you.

In my opinion a fast does not begin until 24 hours after you last meal. Why? Well if you eat a big meal and leave the table your plate is empty but your belly is full. A full belly is not a fast. A fast means no food in your mouth, tummy or system. So if you wait 24 hours after your last meal your system is depleted of food, sugar and glycogen. Then you can say you actually begin to fast.

I wish I had seen this video before I went and lost a whole lot of muscle doing resistance exercise while fasting without paying any attention to protein intake. I was the stereotypical 60-year-old with some visceral fat, which was what I had been trying to lose. It's not as if the exercising was a problem for me either, but I did lose muscle to the extent that I could not walk without orthotic footwear or sit without a big memory-foam pillow. I believe it affected my heart also, because I developed chest pain and palpitations and now, suspected A-Fib. Phew, and they say that the body knows better than to touch muscle while there is fat laying around. Mine didn't, that's for sure. It's still holding on to my love handles.

Dr. Hyman, I’m a big fan on almost all of your health advice. However it’s troubling that some of the best health experts, like you, delve into area that you clearly have not much experience , or limited information on, like long term fasting. By pointing out a couple of negatives, (about long term fasting) which you only know from some biased source, is confusing to a whole lot of people who actually need long term fasting to improve or save their life. You have so many followers that you have influence over. do more research. True North, Santa Rosa Ca,, Tanglewood Wellness , Costa Rica, and Buchinger Wellness in Germany & Spain have way more research and human trials, where people have cured blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, Auto Immune, etc… some for over 80 yrs. The average fast at these places is 21 days, with 7 day refeed. Some have gone up to 120 days to cure what doctors said were incurable. For someone , a little sick, your way is fine. Some people need something way more intensive, and proven. Hopefully anyone watching your video, will do research on their own.

    • @Car-jy8pw
      @Car-jy8pw หลายเดือนก่อน +2

It depends. You can get into autophagy in a relatively quick time if your last meals didn’t spike your insulin levels. There’s also foods and supplements that you can include in your last meal that help trigger autophagy if you’re not able to do longer fasts.
Dr. Mindy Pelz has a lot of good information on those foods. She also has a lot of information on when in your cycle to do fasts and when to avoid them (makes a huge difference for me.)

I've never eaten the SAD, although, I could have done better my whole adult life with sugar and flour avoidance. I took a lot of antibiotics growing up for chronic bronchitis that was so bad I'd pull muscles in my chest coughing so I messed up my flora big time. It caught up with me a couple of years ago when I developed such a severe histamine intolerance that I had an asthma attack every time my body produced it to make stomach acid - yup, every time I swallowed _anything._ Suddenly, I had to choose between eating and breathing.
Fasting was the obvious choice which I started 2 years ago with OMAD and monthly prolonged fasts (3-5 days). I fixed the problem such that my asthma is _gone_ and I can tolerate eating high histamine food. However, still dealing with bloating that's driving me bananas especially with my raw milk homemade kefir which really drives me crazy because I know how healthful it is. I drink any and I look pregnant...so, obviously, I have gut healing to go.
What really bothers me, though, is that after 2 years of fasting and eating clean my A1C (which has NEVER been high) is 6.0!!! What the HECK?! You might have given the answer in this podcast, though - eating too close to bedtime. I'll be more diligent about that and see what happens when I get retested in 6 months. I'm pretty discouraged, though, for all I've done to have it be pre-diabetic when I've NEVER eaten a ton of sugar/processed carbs in my LIFE nor have I ever been more than 30 lbs overweight, and I've been my ideal weight (5'2", female, 110 lbs, muscular, active, 52 years young) for a year and a half.

Any food you consume spikes your insulin. Starch vegetables spike your glucose more than cruciferous vegetables. Remember, all food spikes your insulin. Some more than others. Snacks before or after meals interrupt the body's digestion process;hence, spiking your insulin up again and not allowing your insulin and glucose levels to return to a normal range, much less an ideal range. Glad you’re wondering about this too.
Its a thing that a lot of them are doing now- a filming fad that unfortunately caught on for some reason. 🤦‍♀️
It’s distracting and off-putting. Why on earth would you purposely want to show your audience a quickly alternating pattern of looking directly at them and then not, for absolutely no reason?
The goal of imparting information well is to connect as you communicate. The best way to do that is addressing the listener directly with eye contact. I’m surprised that I need to say that to experienced, knowledgeable public speakers and their professional filming and editing staff, but here we are.
I think this nonsense started with some bored videographer and editor who thought it was cool.
News flash, guys: it is not. Its weird and affected, looks ridiculous, and is absolutely unnecessary.
I truly hope someone somewhere sees this comment, rethinks this silly fad, and stops doing it. Maybe they’ll all copy each other again, and eventually it’ll disappear.
      Here’s hoping.

So, being carnivore for 1 ½ years, and fasting for 20 hours/day, how much fat do I need to eat if I’m stuck with 15 pounds overweight?

What exactly is OVERWEIGHT? What is your measure for bring overweight? It's more important how you feel physically and mentally is what is important not the mere idea of being overweight. What do the tests show?

We, as Muslims, fast 30 days in the year known as the month of Ramadan, and we voluntarily fast 3 days every Hijri month, following the commandment of our Prophet Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace. There is a verse in the Qur’an that God tells us about fasting, “And that you fast is better for you.” Very beautiful. Now I know how lucky I am to be a Muslim. 🤍
