I had a 1978 D150 Adventurer with a 400 C.I. engine that had a tool box built into the drinker side bed. The Adventurer was the top of the line dodge truck with power steering and brakes, air conditioning, CB radio, etc, etc. 0-60 in 5 seconds, beat a corvette on the expressway one time. He was not a happy camper........Had it for nearly 20 yrs.
Hey bud, just wanna let you know that the reason a lot of us like this channel is the variety of types of videos you do. A lot of other channels just do races, or just do revivals, or just to auto repair, but you do it all. Keep it up, great video!

Don’t listen to these other comments on your post here, I will say, I’m guilty of liking the “found this let’s fix it up and drive it home” vids, but I’ve been watching Derek for most of his time on the yous tubes, and the most enjoyment I get has to do with him being just and all around good feller. Good mix of learning something, and comedy. He is the type of people we need to keep the few of us interested in doing our own work/repair to our vehicles that we need.
We often hear so much about the Mopar 340,360,440 but the 318 is a fantastic engine. 15 years and after it starts, it idles, no smoke, no stuck lifters. My brother and I fixed up same truck in 1988 when I was 16. It ran like a dream.
When you hit the brake and did the hard right my cold snock flew straight out my nose I laughed so hard….. These revivals are priceless…. Best TH-camr in the business…. I watch a lit but yours are head and shoulders over the rest… You keep pumpin ‘em out and I’ll keep watching
There's just something about about watching people bring back to life these older vehicles that makes for a relaxing after work activity. Doesnt hurt when the host is as chill and easy going as Bob Ross. Thanks for the awesome vids. While not a truck my family had an old Plymouth Volare station wagon when I was a kid - from 1990 and didnt get rid of it till 2012 - and we used it for pretty much everything. Towing a small popup, hauling yard trash, you name it - it was our truck. Those older cars / trucks will keep on going forever so long as you take care of them

My dad had a 78 adventurer-er club cab, short box. I loved that old truck! He parked it for a while after the trans started slipping. I went to school and came home and it was gone, he sold it to a junkyard! Made me sick because the short box club cab is pretty rare to find. Yes! I was a human remote as well ! 😆

Damn, in America you can easily daily drive car like this one? I mean, in europe every car older than 1990 is super classic and needs special treatment. Parts are very expansive and rare..
@@dominik7014 you could daily drive a truck like this as long as you didn't go on the highway. These old trucks are SUPER easy to work on and parts can be hard to find but when you do they're not expensive. As long as you pick a common car/truck, old cars can work fine for dailies.
@@dominik7014I'm sure a lot of it is difference in parts available. GM literally,(really literally) 100 million small block Chevy motors. So there are millions of used parts and millions of aftermarket parts for those cars. Mopar and Ford's sold tens of millions of certain things too. In Europe,you guys barely have any cars except Morris Minors or Mini's.😆
We got our 1st TV in about 1948. It was a 7" Motorola that weighed about 50 pounds. We had a rabbit ears antenna and in addition to the on/off volume and channel changer we also had brightness, contrast, horizontal hold and vertical hold. We only got 2 channels, but with all the adjustments I stayed pretty busy!

That old Dodge really put a smile on my face. Growing up on the farm my dad had a 1979 dodge 150 power wagon adventure package. Learned to drive in that old truck. It was the exact same color as well.

Watching your content got me motivated to do my own resurrection. I ended up yanking an 88 W150 with a 318 out of a scrappers field. Got it running and driving 2 weeks ago. Feels great.

I've driven vehicles with brakes dragging and shocks/tires messed up like that many times. You can tell when these magazine journalists test drive a Mustang or a Camaro and talk about how "bad" the handling is, they've never had the good fortune to get into a rig like this and have to learn to drive around it because they got nothing else to get them around.

Great trucks Derek, It's called a 1st Gen, and the starter you put on was introduced in 1988 on production trucks., Known as DENSO mini starters, half the size, twice the power.
@@DieselAddict-vs9fc - This truck (1977) is a 3rd-Gen D Series, but not a RAM. They were not named RAM trucks until the end of 1980. Dodge kept the same model D & W trucks marketed as RAM trucks from 81 until the 93 design change.
I've come to enjoy this channel so much over the years that when i heard "was that a peacock???" strangely it seemed like a completely normal thing to hear. Thanks for the hard work, enjoyment, and enthusiasm you bring to this this channel Derek. I just happened to be watching this while i was swapping out the ignition switch in my 2nd gen RAM 2500 and it really made the whole job seem to go much easier knowing there was another feller out there wrenchin on a Dodge.
@@mvining7 my father had a 75 with a 360 as far back as I can remember and its part of what drove me to dodge. I love them and can't wait to finish the one I have now. Always looking for videos of them getting repaired or body work done. Just so much fun to watch and learn tips.
@@christophermosley that's awesome. Mine is a 77 D100 short wheel base utiline with a cammed 360. I got it when I was 16 as my first truck. Drove it for a few months then the transmission went out and had to work all summer to pay for part of the transmission rebuild. Drove it a few more months and then it started having issues and had to get something more reliable for college commute. It's been off the road for almost 14 years now but I try and crank it every couple of years to keep the engine from seizing. Wish I could do it more but it's always a task to get it fired up these days. Hoping you're turns out well sir!
I can't believe how strait the grill is. I had two of those late 70 Dodges and a strong wind would bend them. LOL No smoke 318s where great engines. Yes I was a TV remote when i was young.
I'm 66. I retired more than half a century ago from my T.V. remote career. We were a Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge family too. Lots of memories in these trucks. I have two 82 d150s today. One is a step-side short-bed . They both have slantsix's and 3 speeds w/O.D. Thanks! Good Memories!
I just wrecked my 75 Adventurer Sport 440, loved that truck with all my heart. I'm getting my grandpa's 84 Ram 250 next. Hasn't run in at least 15ish years, haven't even seen it in 20. You can bet I'm gonna have a bucket of Derek quotes at my side the whole time I'm getting them back on the road.
You selling anything off the 75? I'm trying to build one on a very tight budget. I swapped the 318 for a 440 big block too. I really need a dash pad and door panels. And of course window regulators and seals. My truck literally had no rubber left anywhere when I bought it. It's coming too slowly though.

No I didn’t, I was picking up most of his vehicles close to his previous home and delivering them to his new home so we had made an agreement not to make any videos or photography of where I was or was going to, however I do have a few pictures of his cars on my trailer and he had a short clip on his channel a few months back of me delivering one of the loads, working for Derek and Jessica was an awesome experience and I had a fantastic time, I would gladly do it again anytime!
definitely worth repairing. that is definitely a very well optioned truck. you don't see those factory cb radio's or sunroofs much. you likely just need some new wiper linkage bushings. they are plastic and it is common for them to fail with age.
I had an 83 Dodge royal with a 318 and it ran rough at idle and a friend told me to try running seafoam in the gas and a couple cans over a couple week's fixed it, I was shocked and drove it for a few years, even the a/c worked, love them old dodge trucks, great job Derek, it's a keeper!😊
Would love to see you do the brakes all the way around, bleed 'em, fix the headlights so they're both bright, service the trans and drive the ol' Adventurer 150 once in awhile. Maybe a guy could even more permanently fix the poor man's A/C vent in the cab roof too.
Started watching your channel Derek for almost 2 years now. I was always into cars and wanted an old classic. Finally after enough binge watching the videos. I ended up getting my mitts on a 1965 Galaxie 500 LTD. Sat 16 plus years. Got her running in a week of owning it. Was driving it earlier last year. Decided to pull it apart and redo/repaint and get rid if any rust I find. First project car. But very solid. Keep up the great work!
Hell yeah, 65 was the best year for the Galaxy in my opinion. I got a 67 country sedan wagon (the galaxy/ltd style wagon) that I have dreams of getting back on the road but she is real rough. I did get my Gramps 1980 F150 Ranger rollin again this year, after sittin for 10+ years after he died. Derek and all these youtube guys definitely lit a fire under my ass to just go ahead and get into workin on these old rigs. Wish I started sooner. Cheers bud! And F.J.B!
Same on two different Dodge trucks of the 70's flavor. Uncle was first to find issue after he scrapped the first one. He is mopar fanatic and absolutely loves the 318ci. We have an 82 3/4 ton we are fixing up this spring and summer. Amazingly rust free for its age.

Dad had a '75 powerwagon ext'd cab long bed 4x4 440. I've had a 74 d-100 ext cab long bed 360, a '75 Bicentennial tribute d-100 std. cab short bed w/225 3-spd, a'79 d-100 std cab long bed 360, and an '86 d-150 std cab short bed 225 3spd. Loved them all. Thank you for this content ❤
I was most definitely the universal remote controller of my family. Pulled the knob, turned the dial through all the snow to find something on air. All we had back then was channels 3, 6 and 10. Sometimes 12 came in on a cloudy day. A guy sure misses the sign off and seeing Old Glory at midnight!!

A couple ideas for you from my experience with a 1985. Police car intakes are fun, you can't get jets for the original carburetors so don't ever drill them out. I put a spread bore Holey on mine, even though it was way over-sized for a 318...still just about popped a front tire off the ground. You may be able to get 10 degrees static timing at idle, anything more will pre-detonate. Remove the passenger side exhaust manifold with the rusted out bi-metallic spring, you will only boil the carburetor with the cross-over heat. Replace it with a driver's side manifold. Oh, and check the frame for cracks under the steering box, they are notorious for that.
Do the brakes, fix the sunroof right, clean it up and do some one-grit sanding before laying down a budget paint job. I have a soft spot for those old Dodges and this one appears worth putting moderate effort and budget into. My childhood TV memories don't include being a remote control to change channels (we had two lol) but the signal came in from a TV aerial antenna mounted to the top of a tall, skinny wooden pole that rotated. It was held to the eave of the house with a strap of sheet metal fashioned into a loop. My job was to go outside in all weathers, foul and fair, and rotate the pole until the reception cleared up. I'd turn it slowly and the person on the inside of the house by the wall would knock on it when the TV picture was gooder-ish. How many times did I come back inside, froze and soaking wet, only to be told it moved after the knock was heard and I'd have to go back out and turn the antenna again.
@@nelsonwelch1747 our TV was colour, I'm not that old lol Though we did have a black and white TV in the kitchen as well, only one channel on that one with telescopic antennae attached.
The brake parts for a D series half-ton are dirt cheap & very easy to work on & the PS/front end work is pretty basic stuff too, but that rust out looks to be fairly extensive. So, i'd consider that to be a great parts/donor truck having many of the sought after parts for a 77/78/79 "tin-grill" D100/D150 and/or Adventurer, intact.
Been w2atching your amazing videos for a while now. Thank you for the content! This will be the longest comment I've ever made on TH-cam. This truck takes me back to when I turned 16 and my older brother sold me his 1979 Lil' Red Fire Express with a 360 power barn. Day 4 of owning my first rig and the motor locked up due to the distributer shaft shearing off. Got the rig into the high school auto shop to rebuild. I wasn't in the class and relied on the upper classmen to do me right. They forgot to mark how they took the piston holder downers off and couldn't get it back together. They informed me days later that they say symbols like "Luck Charms" diamonds, moons and hearts etc.. that marked the pistons for reassembly. Got it back and 2 months later sheared the oil pump shaft for a second time. Put a used 318 in and sold it. Thanks for the memories!

Bentley saying it pulled when pushing it in was the first red light. I have a '98 F150 that did the same thing when I bought it. Just about ripped the wheel from my hands and spun out when touching the brakes. It was just the rubber brake line swelled up as you said. Easy fix. She might just settle down in the front end once you get that fixed. Nice truck, Derek. I just hope the flaky wheels hold up til you get 'er home.

You already brought it back this far. It sounds great, put new calipers and hoses on it, probably needs to replace the purple rotor after the trip with the locked up caliper which obviously made it steer a little funny. Put a new filter in the trans, adjust the bands and do something a little more perminent with the roof hole and it's golden! Probably needz new plastic bushings on the wiper linkage... But yeah, she needs just a little more lovin' to make her an enjoyable ride.

This is the most addictive channel on the internet. Love the old cars, love the Derek, love his family. What I can never understand is why the seats tip forward in the truck cabs when there's no room to store anything. Hooch smuggling? Mice extraction? Smallest yung un' travelling compartment? I don't know.

Yep! I was a little human tv remote for our 10 inch black and white TV with the separate uhf and vhf knobs. Haven't thought about that for years! Thanks for blasting me into the past Derek.
Great video Derek! I just bought a 1977 Dodge D100 longbed with a 360 for my son to have a first vehicle to drive. I bought the old truck from an old friends son after my friend passed away. I remember him telling me about buying the truck new and putting over 400,000 miles on it; at the time of telling me that we were cruising down the highway and it was running like a top! These are great trucks truly, I grew up around mostly chevrolet because that's what dad loved and I've still got his old 1978 high sierra longbed 350v8 around, of course its probably got 300-400,000 miles on it also-like you said you just can't kill em! Despite dad loving chevrolets, we had a 1978 dodge van around when i was a kid and we took all our vacations in it. I learned to steer in that thing as we went down the highway :) When I look back the thing I never considered is the fact that while unlike the chevy truck which we drove all the time, the van would just sit until it was time ya know... and I cant think of a time where it ever let us down! For a vehicle to do that its pretty impressive I think. We did have one Ford around when i was a kid, the one my parents brought me home from the hospital in 1976 Thunderbird 460! For a boat that thing would fly, but its the one I learned to wrench on as well as hold a flashlight on! We had to work on it constantly, and it was always cold when we did! I never thought I'd grow up to do this kind of work but there's something about it that takes me back, much like the great country music that briefly came on towards the end of your video. Keep up the great work brother, and may the Lord bless your efforts on your journeys! :)
Derek, this is the 2nd time I've watched this vid. I rebuilt a 1977 M884 military power wagon Communitions vehicle with a 318. This thing had 2 batteries and 2 altinaternators. The wiring was nuts! My son, being a Mopar mechanic supplied me with a roller cam and lifter kit to rebuild the 318. Boy was this a going to town rig. However, the front axle was positive one. This is why they called it a troop killer. But wow, it was a tough SOB. Thank again for sharing. IE, my VGG cap is great....thanks Jessi.

That old Adventurer runs so nice, I would love to see you take 'er to the next level, and get the brakes and front end sorted out. A feller can always weld up the hole in the roof with some new tin, and maybe find another bed for it. Or make a nice little flat bed out of it.
Brings back memories! My first job (excluding cutting the grass for neighbors) was as a lot attendant after school and on weekends at a new dodge dealership in Raleigh, NC in 1975. Looks just like the ones I drove around the lot, washed on the line and detailed for delivery to customers. The 318s where my favorite but most of them where the "Leaning Tower of Power" as you described them in another video. I love that description of the slant six ! The local power company had their new fleet of several hundred pickups and Darts delivered through that dealership so 99% of the ones I ever saw there where baby blue. I almost forgot the came in any other color. ;-)
I love your videos. I'm going to do a vice grip style rescue on my grandfather's 68 Firebird 400 that has been sitting in the field since '83. Hopefully I'll get some of it on video. You're an amazing inspiration.

Pretty cool old dodge. Sure dont see many of them around. It has less rust around the rear wheel wells than many of the new rams. She's got all the body chrome, nice grill and bumpers, take a peep at the brakes and front end.
The new starter you put in is a mini starter. I just put one in on my '79 with the 360 to make better clearance for long tube headers. I believe they put the mini starters in from the factree on the Gen 2 Dodge's since they're smaller and crank better than the old 30 pound c'mongetouttathere's.
Another great revival! My dad had an old Dodge truck very similar to that. Yes, I was often used as a TV remote when I was a kid. Not only to change the channel, but to adjust the antenna and fine tune the station. Kid’s these days have no idea what life was like back then; walking across 9 feet of shag carpeting to change channels!

At 49:19...I never saw a mopar start that well when they were daily driven! My grandparents had a 71 Newport...hated rainy days. Sunny ones weren't that great either! Thank you for what you do!
Surprised a guy with a new video on bringing that old Dodge truck to life. I think it is worth saving on for sure. Some brake work and a for real sunroof and that rig is ready for travels.
I had a Warlock like that, Black stepside, gold pinstriping all over it, no gaping hole in the roof.or air vents in the wheelwells, I loved it. it handled like a go cart ran great! Chrysler starter is a chrysler starter from a slant 6 to a 440. with the rear wheel drive from '62 into the begining of the 21st century You can get one anywhere.
Think its worth putting this thing back on the road. I'm a dodge guy with a 2003 dodge dakota in very good condition and I drive it often and when you take care of these trucks they can last. I'm a big fan. Looking forward to see more of this truck.

This reminds me of an old Dodge I had that was a utility truck. Painted orange and all. It was before I knew much about automobiling. Could never get the fuel make it happener working right. Loved my truck but didn't know what I was doing or what I had. I love the old revivals. Thanks for posting. I missed having these videos during sick week. Don't get a feller wrong, I like sick week too. But I really enjoy the revivals. You inspired my 75 dj5 mail jeep revival. Fixing it in a fellets yard and driving it home. It made a good goin to town rig, I drive to work every day. You're awesome and I love your channel.
All I can say is that V8 seemed to give you as much "giddy up go" as anything mechanical could be expected to -- doesn't seem to be ready for the boneyard yet. (That Adventurer 150 may have gone about "as far as is Practicable" though.)
Growing up my Dad had a '79 with a 318. Many adventures with it and it never let us down. To this day he regrets selling it. Love to see more on her. I too was used as a remote/ antenna adjuster for many years.
I'm sure you figured this out by now. But those newer smaller starters are the ones being used on the newer Ram's and V8 Dakota's from the 90's to the early 2000's on the Magnum flavor of 360/318's. Great item to use on a Duster with headers (personal experience) , As those old dinosaur Chryco starters were a pain to maneuver around headers.

I had a 1978 D150 Adventurer with a 400 C.I. engine that had a tool box built into the drinker side bed. The Adventurer was the top of the line dodge truck with power steering and brakes, air conditioning, CB radio, etc, etc. 0-60 in 5 seconds, beat a corvette on the expressway one time. He was not a happy camper........Had it for nearly 20 yrs.
400's even with low compression were torque monsters...not much horsepower...but they would pull.

Don’t listen to these other comments on your post here, I will say, I’m guilty of liking the “found this let’s fix it up and drive it home” vids, but I’ve been watching Derek for most of his time on the yous tubes, and the most enjoyment I get has to do with him being just and all around good feller. Good mix of learning something, and comedy. He is the type of people we need to keep the few of us interested in doing our own work/repair to our vehicles that we need.
We often hear so much about the Mopar 340,360,440 but the 318 is a fantastic engine. 15 years and after it starts, it idles, no smoke, no stuck lifters. My brother and I fixed up same truck in 1988 when I was 16. It ran like a dream.
318 was only motor Dodge made IMO

While not a truck my family had an old Plymouth Volare station wagon when I was a kid - from 1990 and didnt get rid of it till 2012 - and we used it for pretty much everything. Towing a small popup, hauling yard trash, you name it - it was our truck. Those older cars / trucks will keep on going forever so long as you take care of them

My dad had a 78 adventurer-er club cab, short box. I loved that old truck! He parked it for a while after the trans started slipping. I went to school and came home and it was gone, he sold it to a junkyard! Made me sick because the short box club cab is pretty rare to find. Yes! I was a human remote as well ! 😆

@@dominik7014 you could daily drive a truck like this as long as you didn't go on the highway. These old trucks are SUPER easy to work on and parts can be hard to find but when you do they're not expensive. As long as you pick a common car/truck, old cars can work fine for dailies.

So there are millions of used parts and millions of aftermarket parts for those cars. Mopar and Ford's sold tens of millions of certain things too. In Europe,you guys barely have any cars except Morris Minors or Mini's.😆

We got our 1st TV in about 1948. It was a 7" Motorola that weighed about 50 pounds. We had a rabbit ears antenna and in addition to the on/off volume and channel changer we also had brightness, contrast, horizontal hold and vertical hold. We only got 2 channels, but with all the adjustments I stayed pretty busy!
Probably one of my favorite test drives to date. Had me cracking up. Love the old Dodges. Looking forward to part two of this revival.

I've driven vehicles with brakes dragging and shocks/tires messed up like that many times. You can tell when these magazine journalists test drive a Mustang or a Camaro and talk about how "bad" the handling is, they've never had the good fortune to get into a rig like this and have to learn to drive around it because they got nothing else to get them around.

Great trucks Derek, It's called a 1st Gen, and the starter you put on was introduced in 1988 on production trucks., Known as DENSO mini starters, half the size, twice the power.
1972-1993 was 3rd generation dodge ram. It's not a 1st gen.

I've come to enjoy this channel so much over the years that when i heard "was that a peacock???" strangely it seemed like a completely normal thing to hear. I just happened to be watching this while i was swapping out the ignition switch in my 2nd gen RAM 2500 and it really made the whole job seem to go much easier knowing there was another feller out there wrenchin on a Dodge.

@@christophermosley that's awesome. Mine is a 77 D100 short wheel base utiline with a cammed 360. I got it when I was 16 as my first truck. Drove it for a few months then the transmission went out and had to work all summer to pay for part of the transmission rebuild. Drove it a few more months and then it started having issues and had to get something more reliable for college commute. It's been off the road for almost 14 years now but I try and crank it every couple of years to keep the engine from seizing. Wish I could do it more but it's always a task to get it fired up these days. Hoping you're turns out well sir!

I'm 66. I retired more than half a century ago from my T.V. remote career. We were a Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge family too. Lots of memories in these trucks. I have two 82 d150s today. One is a step-side short-bed . They both have slantsix's and 3 speeds w/O.D. Thanks! Good Memories!

I just wrecked my 75 Adventurer Sport 440, loved that truck with all my heart. I'm getting my grandpa's 84 Ram 250 next. Hasn't run in at least 15ish years, haven't even seen it in 20. You can bet I'm gonna have a bucket of Derek quotes at my side the whole time I'm getting them back on the road.
You selling anything off the 75? I'm trying to build one on a very tight budget. I swapped the 318 for a 440 big block too. I really need a dash pad and door panels. And of course window regulators and seals. My truck literally had no rubber left anywhere when I bought it. It's coming too slowly though.

No I didn’t, I was picking up most of his vehicles close to his previous home and delivering them to his new home so we had made an agreement not to make any videos or photography of where I was or was going to, however I do have a few pictures of his cars on my trailer and he had a short clip on his channel a few months back of me delivering one of the loads, working for Derek and Jessica was an awesome experience and I had a fantastic time, I would gladly do it again anytime!

definitely worth repairing. that is definitely a very well optioned truck. you don't see those factory cb radio's or sunroofs much. you likely just need some new wiper linkage bushings. they are plastic and it is common for them to fail with age.
I just uses washers and e clips to fix mine on my 78 ramcharger. Couldn't find tool to get those rubber garments on.
That was not a factory sunroof, lol.

I had an 83 Dodge royal with a 318 and it ran rough at idle and a friend told me to try running seafoam in the gas and a couple cans over a couple week's fixed it, I was shocked and drove it for a few years, even the a/c worked, love them old dodge trucks, great job Derek, it's a keeper!😊
Would love to see you do the brakes all the way around, bleed 'em, fix the headlights so they're both bright, service the trans and drive the ol' Adventurer 150 once in awhile. Maybe a guy could even more permanently fix the poor man's A/C vent in the cab roof too.

Started watching your channel Derek for almost 2 years now. I was always into cars and wanted an old classic.
Finally after enough binge watching the videos. I ended up getting my mitts on a 1965 Galaxie 500 LTD. Sat 16 plus years.
Got her running in a week of owning it. Was driving it earlier last year. Decided to pull it apart and redo/repaint and get rid if any rust I find. First project car. But very solid. Keep up the great work!
Hell yeah, 65 was the best year for the Galaxy in my opinion. I got a 67 country sedan wagon (the galaxy/ltd style wagon) that I have dreams of getting back on the road but she is real rough. I did get my Gramps 1980 F150 Ranger rollin again this year, after sittin for 10+ years after he died. Derek and all these youtube guys definitely lit a fire under my ass to just go ahead and get into workin on these old rigs. Wish I started sooner. Cheers bud! And F.J.B!

I had the same truck, a '77 with the 400. Check the frame around the steering box for cracks, I think they're notorious for breaking there.
Same on two different Dodge trucks of the 70's flavor. Uncle was first to find issue after he scrapped the first one. He is mopar fanatic and absolutely loves the 318ci. We have an 82 3/4 ton we are fixing up this spring and summer. Amazingly rust free for its age.
Either that, or something is amiss with the steering box, or both.

Dad had a '75 powerwagon ext'd cab long bed 4x4 440. I've had a 74 d-100 ext cab long bed 360, a '75 Bicentennial tribute d-100 std. cab short bed w/225 3-spd, a'79 d-100 std cab long bed 360, and an '86 d-150 std cab short bed 225 3spd. Loved them all. Thank you for this content ❤

I was most definitely the universal remote controller of my family. Pulled the knob, turned the dial through all the snow to find something on air. All we had back then was channels 3, 6 and 10. Sometimes 12 came in on a cloudy day. A guy sure misses the sign off and seeing Old Glory at midnight!!
I also had to climb the utility pole to hook the pirate cable tv back up

A couple ideas for you from my experience with a 1985. Police car intakes are fun, you can't get jets for the original carburetors so don't ever drill them out. I put a spread bore Holey on mine, even though it was way over-sized for a 318...still just about popped a front tire off the ground. You may be able to get 10 degrees static timing at idle, anything more will pre-detonate. Remove the passenger side exhaust manifold with the rusted out bi-metallic spring, you will only boil the carburetor with the cross-over heat. Replace it with a driver's side manifold. Oh, and check the frame for cracks under the steering box, they are notorious for that.

Do the brakes, fix the sunroof right, clean it up and do some one-grit sanding before laying down a budget paint job. I have a soft spot for those old Dodges and this one appears worth putting moderate effort and budget into.
My childhood TV memories don't include being a remote control to change channels (we had two lol) but the signal came in from a TV aerial antenna mounted to the top of a tall, skinny wooden pole that rotated. It was held to the eave of the house with a strap of sheet metal fashioned into a loop.
My job was to go outside in all weathers, foul and fair, and rotate the pole until the reception cleared up. I'd turn it slowly and the person on the inside of the house by the wall would knock on it when the TV picture was gooder-ish.
How many times did I come back inside, froze and soaking wet, only to be told it moved after the knock was heard and I'd have to go back out and turn the antenna again.

That direction was very important. yap..and of course it was black and white only and the smallest amount of "snow" was what you were looking for,
I also remember having to go outside and turn the antenna to get NBC...and turn it back to get everything else.

Though we did have a black and white TV in the kitchen as well, only one channel on that one with telescopic antennae attached.
The brake parts for a D series half-ton are dirt cheap & very easy to work on & the PS/front end work is pretty basic stuff too, but that rust out looks to be fairly extensive. So, i'd consider that to be a great parts/donor truck having many of the sought after parts for a 77/78/79 "tin-grill" D100/D150 and/or Adventurer, intact.

This truck takes me back to when I turned 16 and my older brother sold me his 1979 Lil' Red Fire Express with a 360 power barn. Day 4 of owning my first rig and the motor locked up due to the distributer shaft shearing off. Got the rig into the high school auto shop to rebuild. I wasn't in the class and relied on the upper classmen to do me right. They forgot to mark how they took the piston holder downers off and couldn't get it back together. They informed me days later that they say symbols like "Luck Charms" diamonds, moons and hearts etc.. that marked the pistons for reassembly. Got it back and 2 months later sheared the oil pump shaft for a second time. Put a used 318 in and sold it. Thanks for the memories!

Bentley saying it pulled when pushing it in was the first red light. I have a '98 F150 that did the same thing when I bought it. Just about ripped the wheel from my hands and spun out when touching the brakes. It was just the rubber brake line swelled up as you said. Easy fix. She might just settle down in the front end once you get that fixed. Nice truck, Derek. I just hope the flaky wheels hold up til you get 'er home.
Definitely took notes on adding the milage on my oil filter on my two rigs. Helps a feller out when going back and forth between them

You already brought it back this far. It sounds great, put new calipers and hoses on it, probably needs to replace the purple rotor after the trip with the locked up caliper which obviously made it steer a little funny. Put a new filter in the trans, adjust the bands and do something a little more perminent with the roof hole and it's golden! Probably needz new plastic bushings on the wiper linkage... But yeah, she needs just a little more lovin' to make her an enjoyable ride.
I had a 76 D100 KING CAB that needed the wiper bushings. About $2 as I recall ,,,

Great video Derek! I just bought a 1977 Dodge D100 longbed with a 360 for my son to have a first vehicle to drive. I bought the old truck from an old friends son after my friend passed away. I remember him telling me about buying the truck new and putting over 400,000 miles on it; at the time of telling me that we were cruising down the highway and it was running like a top! These are great trucks truly, I grew up around mostly chevrolet because that's what dad loved and I've still got his old 1978 high sierra longbed 350v8 around, of course its probably got 300-400,000 miles on it also-like you said you just can't kill em! Despite dad loving chevrolets, we had a 1978 dodge van around when i was a kid and we took all our vacations in it. I learned to steer in that thing as we went down the highway :) When I look back the thing I never considered is the fact that while unlike the chevy truck which we drove all the time, the van would just sit until it was time ya know... and I cant think of a time where it ever let us down! For a vehicle to do that its pretty impressive I think. We did have one Ford around when i was a kid, the one my parents brought me home from the hospital in 1976 Thunderbird 460! For a boat that thing would fly, but its the one I learned to wrench on as well as hold a flashlight on! We had to work on it constantly, and it was always cold when we did! I never thought I'd grow up to do this kind of work but there's something about it that takes me back, much like the great country music that briefly came on towards the end of your video. Derek, this is the 2nd time I've watched this vid.
I rebuilt a 1977 M884 military power wagon Communitions vehicle with a 318. This thing had 2 batteries and 2 altinaternators. The wiring was nuts! My son, being a Mopar mechanic supplied me with a roller cam and lifter kit to rebuild the 318. Boy was this a going to town rig. However, the front axle was positive one. This is why they called it a troop killer.
But wow, it was a tough SOB.

That old Adventurer runs so nice, I would love to see you take 'er to the next level, and get the brakes and front end sorted out. A feller can always weld up the hole in the roof with some new tin, and maybe find another bed for it. Or make a nice little flat bed out of it.
He's almost out of the rust belt so a little looking around and a heave ho could rebuild the back half quick like.

Brings back memories! My first job (excluding cutting the grass for neighbors) was as a lot attendant after school and on weekends at a new dodge dealership in Raleigh, NC in 1975. Looks just like the ones I drove around the lot, washed on the line and detailed for delivery to customers. The 318s where my favorite but most of them where the "Leaning Tower of Power" as you described them in another video. I love that description of the slant six ! The local power company had their new fleet of several hundred pickups and Darts delivered through that dealership so 99% of the ones I ever saw there where baby blue. I almost forgot the came in any other color. ;-)
I love your videos. I'm going to do a vice grip style rescue on my grandfather's 68 Firebird 400 that has been sitting in the field since '83. Hopefully I'll get some of it on video. You're an amazing inspiration.

Pretty cool old dodge. Sure dont see many of them around. It has less rust around the rear wheel wells than many of the new rams. She's got all the body chrome, nice grill and bumpers, take a peep at the brakes and front end.
The new starter you put in is a mini starter. I just put one in on my '79 with the 360 to make better clearance for long tube headers. I believe they put the mini starters in from the factree on the Gen 2 Dodge's since they're smaller and crank better than the old 30 pound c'mongetouttathere's.
Another great revival! My dad had an old Dodge truck very similar to that. Yes, I was often used as a TV remote when I was a kid. Not only to change the channel, but to adjust the antenna and fine tune the station. Kid’s these days have no idea what life was like back then; walking across 9 feet of shag carpeting to change channels!
Climbing up on the roof to turn the antenna at sunset, I don't know what that was about, but dad said..

At 49:19...I never saw a mopar start that well when they were daily driven! My grandparents had a 71 Newport...hated rainy days. Sunny ones weren't that great either! Thank you for what you do!
Surprised a guy with a new video on bringing that old Dodge truck to life. I think it is worth saving on for sure. Some brake work and a for real sunroof and that rig is ready for travels.
I had a Warlock like that, Black stepside, gold pinstriping all over it, no gaping hole in the roof.or air vents in the wheelwells, I loved it. it handled like a go cart ran great! Chrysler starter is a chrysler starter from a slant 6 to a 440. with the rear wheel drive from '62 into the begining of the 21st century You can get one anywhere.
The best thing about the 440 is that after it throws a rod at 4600 rpm, you can use it as a boat anchor.
Think its worth putting this thing back on the road. I'm a dodge guy with a 2003 dodge dakota in very good condition and I drive it often and when you take care of these trucks they can last. I'm a big fan. Looking forward to see more of this truck.

This reminds me of an old Dodge I had that was a utility truck. Painted orange and all. It was before I knew much about automobiling. Could never get the fuel make it happener working right. Loved my truck but didn't know what I was doing or what I had. I love the old revivals. Thanks for posting. I missed having these videos during sick week. Don't get a feller wrong, I like sick week too. But I really enjoy the revivals. You inspired my 75 dj5 mail jeep revival. Fixing it in a fellets yard and driving it home. It made a good goin to town rig, I drive to work every day. You're awesome and I love your channel.

All I can say is that V8 seemed to give you as much "giddy up go" as anything mechanical could be expected to -- doesn't seem to be ready for the boneyard yet. (That Adventurer 150 may have gone about "as far as is Practicable" though.)

Growing up my Dad had a '79 with a 318. Many adventures with it and it never let us down. To this day he regrets selling it. Love to see more on her. I too was used as a remote/ antenna adjuster for many years.
I'm sure you figured this out by now. But those newer smaller starters are the ones being used on the newer Ram's and V8 Dakota's from the 90's to the early 2000's on the Magnum flavor of 360/318's.
Great item to use on a Duster with headers (personal experience) , As those old dinosaur Chryco starters were a pain to maneuver around headers.
Then if you left them there they would get fried by the heat monthly - one of the many joys of headers
But do they have the classic Mopar starter sound?
