About the dodge, i also thought that it was made like that to incentivize parrying. I have hope that they will keep it that way since they are not changing the leveling location even after feedback, they seem to have a Vision. Great video!
this game isnt even close to being competition in most aspects, even the combat(barring ds1 and 2), but i gotta say it the best non fromsoft souls-like by faaaaaar!

It was a good demo indeed. Went in with no expectations and was pretty surprised. With the 'early access' to this game being 72 hours long - it makes me question just how big this game will be. I don't know if it will be the best Souls-like - I think there's been a few great ones in my opinion. And the 'titans' are great too of course. But yeah, it has some potential. I hope it can match FromSoftware indeed!
Lies of P does feel like it’s going to be a much more emotionally investing game. It’s Dark Souls biggest weakness, the gameplay is of course fantastic and I love those games but it’s the mystery and lore of the worlds that hook you more than any kind of story itself. Lies of P just looks like it’s got all the good stuff you would get in a soulsbourne game but with a actual story and purpose

The dodging system isn't " lacking " in my opinion. I like that the dodge isn't like Bloodbornes dodge, because i like that u have to mix the dodge with the parry system, and if u could dodge like u can in Bloodborne it would literally render the parry system pointless and i love the parry system.
I just played the demo and I gotta say that I really love this game. Looking to preorder it for the early access because it real hits the BloodBorne itch. One thing that does annoy me is people comparing it more toward Dark Souls when it’s clearly designed more off of BloodBorne’s company, level, and even a bit of its world design.
i always have a hard time getting into souls-likes but Lies of P definitely has the most promise out of any ive seen. and thats coming from someone who actively dislikes souls likes LOL great video as always.
The setting, atmosphere, puppet theme and varied weaponry and fighting styles really sold be. Never played a Souls game and never really liked it. But I loved being able to use actual fencing in this game. Plus I love the Puppetshow series so this was perfect.
I am not a huge fan of parry mechanics, they are almost universally too hard to time (the windows for success is so small I can't hit it reliably or they are poorly telegraphed so I can't tell when to even try) for me so this is probably not a game I would like But I can always try the demo since everything else looks so good.
The fact that it only has a demo means that you should absolutely give it a go. It's slower than ER but it is also a lot more precise. I personally think the gameplay is much more engaging than ER but that doesn't mean I dislike standard souls combat :')
If you have a PlayStation I highly recommend picking up BloodBorne if you enjoyed the demo because that’s what this game is based off of. It does not play like Elden Ring.
Those soulslike developers who tried their hardest in capturing that Fromsoftware magic all have failed. They completely missed the point. Soulslikes tend to be good in 2 things. Combat, and usually the boss designs aswell. BUT thats the issue. They only succeed in these 2 aspects. Where is the good Level Design? Setting? Atmosphere? Optimization? Music? Story/Lore? These are the things Fromsoft does at a good to high quality level. And combine that with great boss designs and combat, you have a memorable and special game. Not a game that will be forgotten about once you finish it and put it away. Lies of P is truly the first one where I feel like it can become a special and memorable soulslike. Something to be remembered for years to come. These developers get it. They dont just put all their focus into Combat and Boss Designs and neglect most other things. You have to have many different, if not all, aspects of your game be done at a high quality.

It's cool AF. Seems like some kind of lovechild between Dishonored and FromSoft. I'm already loving it. The left arm powers remind me of the powers in Dishonored.
Hands down best souls-like not made by fromsoft. The story is much better told than even Sekiro. The combat feels great, skillful, creative, and precise. A lot of new changes to the formula like weapon handle switching, regaining heals after you run out by attacking the enemy, charge R2 staggers, etc... Overall a 9/10 for me, my game of the year so far.

I have a whole video talking about it but TLDW: I don't like the speed of it. Feels lazy and like Miyazaki was making it because he was contacting obligated to. It's either boring or frustrating with little or no life in between
Great review, and it brought some points I didn't even think much about yet. The only thing I found strange is the description of the Mad Donkey fight. I struggled with the Parade Master (mainly because I didn't understand the perfect block at all), then went on to beat Mad Donkey first try without a single perfect guard. I found him to be a fairly easy mini boss. The first enemy that made me actually think about perfect guard as more than a weird way of avoiding damage was the LAST BOSS. And I came straight from Sekiro when I played this one. The Perfeect Guard just felt so... off. Little did I know it only works if you press (or better, HOLD) the butten the very moment you get hit. Do not anticipate and pre-block like in Sekiro where you could get away with starting to block like 15 frames before the hit landed. As soon as I got that down, the game's difficulty became a JOKE. At least the one of the bosses in the demo. Ironically, in that way, it kinda felt like Sekiro again, where if you master the combat, you can absolutely DESTROY.

I played the demo but I honestly didn't like it. The combat felt way too floaty, I pressed the attack button once and my character did two attacks in that time. The enemies have an incredibly long windup and a fast attack, forcing you to get hit to actually learn how to perfect parry it, instead of just being able to time it correctly. Both of these things I'd be able to overlook, if it wasn't for the absolutely awful control scheme, which is made literally only for controllers. I like the setting a lot, but it's not a game that I'll be buying.
Just curious but do you have much experience with the souls games? It's control scheme is no different from them and the slow attack animations are definitely normal.
@@Sputnik34 I have a lot of experience with souls and I definitely understand what he means, combat is nowhere near as polished as any of the souls games, elden ring, sekiro or bb. I believe it tries to emulate too many things at once, it's very floaty and lacks impact. Also the fact that you can't properly stagger R1s is a huge turn-off, that's such a basic thing to get right and they totally botched it. You are also locked into animations for too long, parries don't feel as fluid as sekiro and the bloodborne health regain mechanic seems to be an afterthought regarding enemy design. Glad you enjoy it though, it's definitely the best souls-like that's not made by fromsoft, so far. Definitely disagree with the notion that it'll be the best souls-like ever.

The one thing it does show is that other studios are, albeit slowly, getting a grasp on some of the more intricate workings of the souls games. If there's no trick weapons, I'm flabbergasted. If you can't parry >with a gun< I'll go play Sekiro (which i haven't played yet but i will someday)
It's definitely worth a shot. It's unfortunate that they took the demo down but if you have game pass it's on there! I think that a lot of Lies of P's systems are an improvement over a lot of the systems in the souls games. Even Bloodborne and sekiro

Pass for me, not a hard one, but since i haven't gotten into Sekiro yet thanks to more worthy products taking over my life, it'll be a while before i try this one, might try it AFTER Sekiro, i just hate wasting time on something inferior after trying the best of the best, it's the reason why i haven't played any Fallout games after New Vegas...or any other RPGs in general. I personally dont like the gothic-ish/steampunk style of the game. Same reason bloodborne is my least favorite soulsborne game. I personally prefer a medieval/high fantasy style games. When it comes to rpgs
…it was okay. No it’s not going to “surpass the titans” and be better than fromsoft. This is from someone who’s played all the soulsborne games but not a blind fan boy. It’s just 1) not polished enough (combat somehow feels not that great) 2) scenery felt bland and 3) enemies felt bland. I liked the attacks and the concept of Pinocchio, but man it’s like a 7/10 for me.
Ya, this doesn’t look like it’s going to be even close to actual competition to any FromSoft souls game. The art is uninspired, and the animations look clankier then Demon Souls.

I guess I'm just going fucking crazy since I've loved so many "souls likes" code vein, nioh 2, remnant but I genuinely hate this one. I wish I didn't but I can't get to grips with this combat and all the spongy fucking large enemies, the awful boss fights and miserable run back. Just know I'm jealous of all of you who see something I dont
The run backs for this game aren't that bad overall. Some of them can be a bit rough but I would say most are completely fine. I'm sorry you don't like it because God DAMN is it everything I ever wanted. I'm going to be making a video detailing why (in my opinion) that is the case so stay around for that. but if it makes you feel any better I felt the same way about Baldurs Gate 3. I was actually sad that I didn't like it. But I just HATE DnD combat.
how, this game does everything right. The enemies are tough but can be killed very quickly with skill, the gameplay is punishing but not too punishing and the combat is somewhere in the middle of bloodborne and ds1 which have my favourite combat personally. Every bossfight so far has been amazing and really puts into perspective for me what elden ring was lacking for me
hollow knight isn't really like a souls game apart from the story but the story of a dying kingdom is not particularly unique. the developers have said ds was not their inspiration with the game for the most part
Dude DARK SOULS 3 is phenomenal if anything dark souls 2 is the worst in series from the fromsoft team. SMH Dark souls 3 boss battles are best in class.
To be fair, the level design in 3 is good I mostly just hate the combat in 3 and I love making people annoyed so I just say the level design is bad. I do think that DS3 being a straight line is absolute TRASH tho That being said I would rather play DS2 any day of the week than DS3

I guess I'm just going fucking crazy since I've loved so many "souls likes" code vein, nioh 2, remnant but I genuinely hate this one. I wish I didn't but I can't get to grips with this combat and all the spongy fucking large enemies, the awful boss fights and miserable run back. Just know I'm jealous of all of you who see something I dont
The run backs for this game aren't that bad overall. Some of them can be a bit rough but I would say most are completely fine. I'm sorry you don't like it because God DAMN is it everything I ever wanted. I'm going to be making a video detailing why (in my opinion) that is the case so stay around for that. but if it makes you feel any better I felt the same way about Baldurs Gate 3. I was actually sad that I didn't like it. But I just HATE DnD combat.

how, this game does everything right. The enemies are tough but can be killed very quickly with skill, the gameplay is punishing but not too punishing and the combat is somewhere in the middle of bloodborne and ds1 which have my favourite combat personally. Every bossfight so far has been amazing and really puts into perspective for me what elden ring was lacking for me
Is hollow knight not considered souls-like because it has too much platforming?
It's a MetroidVania but it's definitely inspired by the souls games
hollow knight isn't really like a souls game apart from the story but the story of a dying kingdom is not particularly unique. the developers have said ds was not their inspiration with the game for the most part
Dude DARK SOULS 3 is phenomenal if anything dark souls 2 is the worst in series from the fromsoft team. SMH Dark souls 3 boss battles are best in class.

You need to be high on your own supply to even be able to think and subsequently convince yourself that DS2 had better level design than DS3 tbh.
To be fair, the level design in 3 is good I mostly just hate the combat in 3 and I love making people annoyed so I just say the level design is bad. I do think that DS3 being a straight line is absolute TRASH tho
That being said I would rather play DS2 any day of the week than DS3
