Gehrman is my favorite bossfight of all time. Almost everything is perfect. Moveset, arena, music, lore behind the fight. Everything is the best of the best. The only small gripe I have with this fight is that it could have been a bit harder for a final fight.
First off, based Sword Saint enjoyer, for making him your #1. I'd even say it's among my favorite final bosses in gaming as a whole. After not playing Sekiro for some years, I decided my first thing to do on this revisit was fight him right away. Absolute thrill. Second, I personally would put Radagon a bit higher, maybe #5 cuz of its mechanics after getting better at ER. Something I learned about post-nerf Elden Stars is that if you wanna avoid it without a hitch, run under the arm casting Elden Stars as its sent out, and sprint like mad. It ensured I didn't have to deal with it, making the fact it can act with impunity a non issue. Third, I'd personally put Gwyn lower cuz of how the fight feels. The parrying can make him an absolute joke, but if you can't or choose not to, his attacks are pretty janky, and unreliable to negotiate with. Still very doable, but it doesn't feel satisfying mechanically. Narratively, very satisfying though as it makes perfect sense that his fight is anticlimactic given the state of the world, and the amount of time that has passed since his efforts to prolong his age.
Gwyn is a funny case as despite what would seem obvious and what people would tell you... He was meant to be hard. Miyazaki himself said that he was meant to be really challenging, but their attempts to balance him in such a way that would make all builds viable in fighting him ended up making him a joke
@@historicflame972 it's more the fact that the moveset is unreliable. I don't care if he's hard or easy, I just want the moveset to be reliable to deal with regardless of your approach. When two different swings have the same animation, just one is twice as fast than the other with nothing to really differentiate them other than the swing speed itself, it just feels like shit to deal with. Maybe I myself haven't fought him enough to learn if there is a tell, but it's pretty obnoxious. It's not like Pontiff where he has two similar sword swings, but the faster swing is only in the middle of combos, while the slower one is a standalone move it combo starter.

I think Radabeast would be better if Radagon stayed dead, and the cutscene for entering the arena shifted so that you teleport in to see his corpse and then the usual phase transition cutscene happens. Give him a bit more health, and don't give any boss kill banner ceremony until you've slain Elden Beast. Also, use Fan Daggers against Elden Beast. They make such a satisfying quintuple clink against its glass body and let melee players not feel as left out when they aren't close to the boss. Finally, when it does the rings attacks, it always resurfaces directly opposite to where it began the attack, so you can catch up to it consistently. A couple days ago I was able to first try the duo on my level 147 character, with a little help from the Divine Fortification incantation, and the fights work quite well when you know what you're doing and don't need to slog through Radagon a dozen times to secure your Elden Beast kill.

The age of fire is NOT the age of humanity, the age of dark is the age of humanity. This is just propaganda fed to you by Frampt and the gods to get you to sacrifice yourself to the first flame. Fear not the dark, my friend, and let the feast begin.
Bloodborne is one of my favorite games so I am going to add some lore theory as to why I think the Moon Presence is so weak. Remember the Great Ones are sympathetic in spirit to the people that make contact with them. So I think the Moon Presence hates the other Great Ones that have created the nightmares which is why it allies with the hunters and creates the Hunter's Dream. It may be weaker than other Great Ones so it uses the hunters to slay the other nightmares. Also it could be holding back because its sympathetic towards you the hunter that killed the other Great Ones. It also could be a young Great One, maybe a past hunter that became the Moon Presence, like you do after beating it, so maybe it isn't as powerful yet. Since it is a cycle that is constant. Idk these are just theories I have thought of as to why it's so weak. From a gameplay standpoint, it could just be weak so a player can more realistically beat Gehrman and Moon Presence back to back on a first try or play through.
Also another reason the moon presence could be so weak is that maybe the good hunter is the first time a hunter has had the power to defy the moon presence and fight it
I get why people want me to rank weapons, but I've never been a player who fucks around with different build & weapon types. I worry I legit wouldn't be qualified to talk about them.
the 1 hp attack of the Moon Presence actually harms it even more than you mentioned, since for a few seconds after using it your Rally is increased by quite a bit.
20:50 I have a weird love for Gwyns fight. I first beat Ds1 after playing first ds2 co op with some friends, and back in 2017 when we beat it I was the second of three to beat him (since beating him ends the game) which left me with one friend to fight him, it wasn't too bad. Me and the same group of friends are doing a challenge where we beat all 3 souls games before we try elden ring (currently on ds2 dlc) and I was the last one to beat Ds1 this time. My 1v1 with him was a lot more memorable to me than when I did it with a friend. Such a sick 1v1 lore wise to end the game. Like you said he was super aggressive in not letting me heal, it was a fight I had to actually learn and beat on like my 7th try. I love Gwyns fight, I hope the fandom never forgets how special and cool it was
12: true king allant. Not bad, good design and for story telling 11: gwyn: awful fight, good music though 👍 10: throne duo: never liked this fight, not sure why 9: mergo nurse: kinda dislike the music, and the nightmare phase ruins the flow 8: moon presence: mid fight, awesome design 7: nashandra: Amazing music, decent moveset, good story 6: emma/isshin: just doesn’t feel nearly as good to me as sword saint 5: aldia: cool moveset, best voicelines, amazing ost 4: radabeast: I actually prefer elden beast to Radagon 3: gehrman: used to think this fight was mid, but I like it a lot more now 2: isshin: such a good boss, peak sekiro combat 1: soul of cinder: what can I say, best moveset, best arena, best lore, best soundtrack
If you wanna be a little different, for your next video you could go with “most important character in each Soulsborne game” Though two of them would still be the final bosses
When I clicked this it was already into the video a little bit. It was at the part where he said become slug, with the be cut off already. I was very confused.
I'm proud I did Gwyn like any other boss, with no shield, simply rolling through his blows. He's one of my personal favorite boss, and I'm glad I didn't know of the parry possibility so I fought him loyally
I forget if i brought this up in a previous video or not, but theres an interesting detail i realised about Sword Saint Isshin. This is a legendary swordsman, who founded his own nation, and invented an entire style of swordplay. So the Sword Saint pulling out a spear that overtakes his sword as his primary weapon seemed to come out of nowhere. However then i realized that in this nation heavily focused on sword combat, Ashinas most elite soldiers, the best of the best, are the Seven Ashina Spears. Makes me wonder if Isshin is a proficient spear user first and formost, and he picked up the sword to give his opponents a more equal fight.
Gael doesn’t fit technically end ds3, but I’d like to think lore wise he’s the final boss because you (the player) and him are the final beings left in the world of dark souls
For that reason alone he should be in here, because not only is he the final boss of Dark Souls 3, he's the final boss of the entire souls series. To me, that alone gets him a seat at the table, especially if Mergo's Wet Nurse is here, and 1000x more if Aldia is here 😂
I’m so bad at these games I end up spending 20-40+ hours longer than I should on just the main story using guides, and I end up learning the combat so well I beat the final boss in one sitting.
Only played ds1 through 3 so far, and yeah soul of cinder is easily the best of the group. I have a soft spot for Nashandra despite her being really easy, and even though they have good lore, I don’t like Aldia or Gwyn much at all as bosses
Someone prolly already said it, but you can actually dodge Mergos clone attack. Just roll/quickstep the moment she would split in two and it completely negates it
When you're getting targeted by elden stars, run (not walk RUN) in an EXTREMELY tight circle - I usually avoid 90-95% of them as long as I know its about to hit
Sword Saint Isshin is bananas. He’s actually kind of fun once you get used to his moves. But man was he ludicrous when I first faced him! Just have to get the rhythm…
The Elden Beast disrespect has gone on for far too long. I definitely don't agree with the sentiment that Torrent should have been an option in this fight. The distance from the boss allows you to soak up the amazing spectacle in a way that would be lost in part if you could just be near it all the time. And the time you are actually unable to hit it is highly exaggerated in many videos I watched that talk about it, it's not that long. As for Elden Star, like with some of the complaints for the other bosses, the perceived unfairness of the move totally just comes down to the game being the newest and so some people still didn't master the most difficult bosses (sorta like it happens every time a new game comes around, just amplified because the bosses have some of the most challenging movesets yet) . Also, how can it be a disconnected fight ? It's literally using Radagon's body as a weapon. Elden Beast's lore is slept on too. Overall, Elden Beast is my favorite of the final bosses and one of my favorites in general. I like it even more than Radagon and their fight is the ultimate test for all the Tarnished Warriors that have come so far to obtain the Elden Ring.
With all due respect, can we not start the narrative that just because I ranked Elden Beast in 6th, that I'm somehow "disrespecting" it? You can explain why you love a fight without needing to put down others, or toss their opinions away as disrespect.
That's very much semantics though. The fact is, there are some people who picked Mergo, then chatted to Gehrman and picked "Sacrifice" and I have to make sure they're represented.
@@BillySYT yeah but every other boss on put the list goes straight from boss room to cut scene to credits Also if you were unfortunate enough to miss out on gehrmans fight on your first playthrough I doubt you want to be reminded of it
if they gave the moon prescense morgott's moveset i would be replaying bloodborne like 50 times. its just such a cool design and it deserves to be the hardest boss
In my humble opinion, nothing will EVER beat Isshin the Sword Saint, that was a crazy final boss, perfectly designed to make you sure you mastered every singles aspect of the game. Edit: Having now watched the video, I can see you are a true man of culture as well
I'm gonna be that guy, but from what I remember in the lore the age of fire was the age of lords, not the age of hummanity, Gwyn feared the dark age of humanity that comes after the age of fire.
People talk about the overall quality of DS3 and Bloodborne's bosses but seem to overlook Sekiro, which imo has the highest-quality set of bosses in the whole series. Individually, Emma and Shura Isshin aren't even in my top 5 Sekiro bosses yet I 100% agree with this list's top 3. Amazing video and one that earned you a subscriber!!
Moon Prescence is so much better on later NG+ levels as it actually lives long enough to use some of its blood magic. If it weren't so easy to stagger, and started using its blood magic at 75 percent health instead of 50 percent, it would already be better.
I always see gwyn as being high up, but I really don’t like his fight at all. As for soul of cinder, I think he’s the best boss ever made in a videogame next to Vergil from Dmc. Isshin is close, but soul of cinder has such a large moveset, I don’t think it’s rivaled by any boss
Suggestion for a video Soulsborne main game optional "superbosses" Old King Doran (DeS) Stray Demon (DS) Smelter Demon; King Vendrick; Darklurker; Ancient Dragon (DS2SotFS) Ebrietas; Martyr Logarius (Bloodborne) Nameless King (DS3) Demon of Hatred (Sekiro: SDT) Malenia; Mohg, Lord of Blood; Dragonlord Placidusax; (ER) These are the ones that I personally believe qualify.
For me it goes: True king Allant Nashandra Aldia Gwyn Radagon and Elden beast Soul of cinder (the best dark souls boss) Gehrman (my favorite boss in the series)
the darkness clone attack pf Mergo's wet nurse is actually and AOE attack that she casts and you can DODGE it surprisingly enough hehe. If you do you will escape that phase completly
I can agree that Isshin is a better BOSS, but when it comes to being a FINAL BOSS, there is a perfectly valid argument for Soul of Cinder being nearly perfect, though yes it is bolstered by lore and the fact that its ending the whole series. I'm a sucker for finality and Soul of Cinder just fits tonally better than anything else ever could have.
I think you should have included Slave Knight Gael to this aswell, because he actually wraps up the entire story of Dark Souls 3, or even the entire Dark Souls series... Then again, the list would be really unfair in that situation...
good video man i prefer elden beast and radagon over gwyn but i get why people like gwyn but if you don’t parry gwyn his fight is fairly difficult in terms of DS1 but the music for elden ring final boss is what does it for me i love that theme so much
Hey! Thanks for another great video, I’m here checking it out while I take a breather from Baldurs Gate 3 haha. I was wondering if you plan on playing BG3 yourself, and if that’s something you’re into!! Much love from the states ♥️♥️
I actually just started playing it in my off-time myself. Obviously I'm having to juggle playing it between working for videos on the channel, but I'm absolutely sucked in by what I've played so far ^^
With Gwyn, I think he was supposed to be a much more challenging boss but the game designers were forced to rush the last 30-40% of the game because the head gave them a deadline. Because of that, the ending was just underwhelming.
No, the lore makes sense of why he's kind of weak. His power was exhausted after holding on to the flame for so long and you face a man who's years and years past his prime. Also he can be quite difficult if you don't parry
Sekiro was my first soulsborne game (technically second since I played Elden ring till rennala but didn’t finish it at that point) and isshin literally took me 40 something tries the best of my tries were 25% of his spear phase and suddenly on my last attempt something clicked and I don’t even know what happened I beat him while my friend was watching me from the corner and I was shocked
I had more trouble with Gwyn than Gehrman. In part because I didn't use a shield in DS1 and so wasn't parrying anything. And he was a fast boss and I was using Smough's Hammer lol. I wonder if Gehrman would have given me more trouble if I'd played the game before the DLC and hadn't already had to conquor the much harder (IMO) Maria hunter fight first.
The Elden Beast fight would be way better if, after beating Radahn, you learn (from Melina maybe), about the Elden Beast in some way, then you get to gather some things (maybe you just need to get all the great runes), and only then, do you fight the Elden Beast. I just feel like that would build up the fight way better, as well as making it actually feel distinct from Radagon
If I’m so honest Imo the final fight of Elden ring would be better if it was just a beefier and slightly tougher version of radagon, and scrap the beast altogether
It's a topic I definitely want to cover. I just worry that I won't be able to do any of the music justice when explaining what I like, since I'm not exactly musically literate lol
The Soul of Cinder is one of my top five bosses(I played DS1, DS2, DS3 and BB. I can’t play DES and I’m not interested in Sekiro and ER). The other 4 are: Ornstein and Smough, Sir Alonne, Lady Maria and Gael.
Trying an early upload (by 1 hour) to see if it's better for the video/channel. Enjoy my takes on the Soulsborne Final Bosses, and remember to stay civil and debate with kindness in the comments ^^

26:23 They had us in the first half, not gonna lie.
Also, I genuinely think Isshin might be the best final boss period. Not just From Software.
You ever played devil may cry 5?
@@nolanc9432 Yes, I've finished it!
@@miyazakisimping imo vergil is better
it's a great fight for sure. maybe the narrative didn't hit as hard for me, since V is the only DMC game I've played.@@nolanc9432

I think you should do a worst to best weapons of each SoulsBourne game
I get why people want me to rank weapons, but I've never been a player who fucks around with different build & weapon types. I worry I legit wouldn't be qualified to talk about them.
I heard the “plin plin plon” in SoC and I literally dropped my controller and stared off… while SoC had a heyday destroying my idle self.
Thops barrier is the Elden stars counter. It’s really satisfying.
the 1 hp attack of the Moon Presence actually harms it even more than you mentioned, since for a few seconds after using it your Rally is increased by quite a bit.
sword saint isshin is the clear winner for me. such an amazing and well crafted fight.
you always post bangers
Not bad, good design and for story telling
11: gwyn: awful fight, good music though 👍
10: throne duo: never liked this fight, not sure why
9: mergo nurse: kinda dislike the music, and the nightmare phase ruins the flow
8: moon presence: mid fight, awesome design
7: nashandra: Amazing music, decent moveset, good story
6: emma/isshin: just doesn’t feel nearly as good to me as sword saint
5: aldia: cool moveset, best voicelines, amazing ost
4: radabeast: I actually prefer elden beast to Radagon
3: gehrman: used to think this fight was mid, but I like it a lot more now
2: isshin: such a good boss, peak sekiro combat
1: soul of cinder: what can I say, best moveset, best arena, best lore, best soundtrack
Technically I wouldn't count the Throne Duo, as you can choose to fight them from the moment you obtain the King's Ring, prior to Aldia's Keep.
I searched for this exact video yesterday. Glad to see you post it!
Found your channel today and have embarked on a binge while drawing lol, you've earned yourself a loyal subscriber. keep up the great work!
Thanks so much. Still wild to hear people binging my videos xD
14:00 you can lock on to her and dodge to the left or right when she raises her hands to do the attack, this is a projectile
If you wanna be a little different, for your next video you could go with “most important character in each Soulsborne game”
Though two of them would still be the final bosses
When I clicked this it was already into the video a little bit. It was at the part where he said become slug, with the be cut off already. I was very confused.
Oh no, my propaganda is being revealed.
@@BillySYT Everyone's got ulterior motives 😭
I'm proud I did Gwyn like any other boss, with no shield, simply rolling through his blows. He's one of my personal favorite boss, and I'm glad I didn't know of the parry possibility so I fought him loyally
I think you forgot to mention that the Soul of Cinder *literally uses the coiled sword pulled from the bonfire*
Which arguably makes him even cooler, yes.
To me, that alone gets him a seat at the table, especially if Mergo's Wet Nurse is here, and 1000x more if Aldia is here 😂
No offense, (I think all of your opinions were perfect) but the way you randomly deflect spam between attacks in the sekiro gameplay hurts my soul
Oh, I'll never claim to be amazing at Sekiro. Fully aware I bumble my way through most fights, but at least I manage deflects where it counts ^^
You did my GOAT Aldia dirty..
(Calling him Gaster was peak though)
Took me nearly a whole year to beat the Elden beast, but the euphoria after beating was insane
Tell em Billy!!! Great video as always :)
I had heard countless times how much of a joke Moon Presence was, but I didn’t expect to defeat him first try with zero blood vials
If isshin isn’t in first place I swear to god
You deserve more subs and views. Amazing content! Keep it up!
Thanks for the kind words ^^
I’m so bad at these games I end up spending 20-40+ hours longer than I should on just the main story using guides, and I end up learning the combat so well I beat the final boss in one sitting.
SS isshin made me feel like i was a worthy warrior
That Radagon footage was…strange…to say the least
So much panic dodging
Only played ds1 through 3 so far, and yeah soul of cinder is easily the best of the group. I have a soft spot for Nashandra despite her being really easy, and even though they have good lore, I don’t like Aldia or Gwyn much at all as bosses
Someone prolly already said it, but you can actually dodge Mergos clone attack. Just roll/quickstep the moment she would split in two and it completely negates it
Good list. I’m glad the recency bias didn’t make you put radagon & elden beast too high. Elden beast felt like kind of a let down
When you're getting targeted by elden stars, run (not walk RUN) in an EXTREMELY tight circle - I usually avoid 90-95% of them as long as I know its about to hit
isshin is my favourite all time boss fight so its sick seeing some recognition
If you side step right before when mergo's wet nurse does the nightmare thing you can avoid it completly
@@BillySYTI think he was just saying "disrespect" as a joke. It's often used as a hyperbole.
What’s the song playing when you’re talking about the moon presence?
The Moon Presence boss theme lol
Technically even when fighting Elden Beast Radagon is still there considering hes the sword. So putting them together makes sense
Top dlc final bosses would be a list to do after Shadow of the Erdtree releases
i feel like murgos wet nurse shouldnt count cuz you can go do anything you feel like before ending the game, like the dlc
That's very much semantics though. The fact is, there are some people who picked Mergo, then chatted to Gehrman and picked "Sacrifice" and I have to make sure they're represented.
@@BillySYT yeah but every other boss on put the list goes straight from boss room to cut scene to credits
Also if you were unfortunate enough to miss out on gehrmans fight on your first playthrough I doubt you want to be reminded of it
if they gave the moon prescense morgott's moveset i would be replaying bloodborne like 50 times. its just such a cool design and it deserves to be the hardest boss
In my humble opinion, nothing will EVER beat Isshin the Sword Saint, that was a crazy final boss, perfectly designed to make you sure you mastered every singles aspect of the game.
Edit: Having now watched the video, I can see you are a true man of culture as well
Gherman is, and perhaps always will be, my favourite boss battle from FromSoftware and from any Soulslike, it’s just about perfect to me.
14:53 bro starts playing FF14 music while im playing FF14 listening to the video 😂
Moon Prescence is so much better on later NG+ levels as it actually lives long enough to use some of its blood magic. If it weren't so easy to stagger, and started using its blood magic at 75 percent health instead of 50 percent, it would already be better.
What’s the song that plays in the outro it sounds so familiar but I forget what game it’s from😭 (EDIT) never mind I REMEMBERED ITS AHM ARENG!!!
Ahm Areng, yep xD
I always see gwyn as being high up, but I really don’t like his fight at all. As for soul of cinder, I think he’s the best boss ever made in a videogame next to Vergil from Dmc. Isshin is close, but soul of cinder has such a large moveset, I don’t think it’s rivaled by any boss
Do you know that you can skip the nightmare phase of the wet nurse by spam rolling
Will u do 1st and last bosses of all the dlcs too???
I will, but I think I'll keep that video idea on the back burner until Shadow of the Erdtree releases. That way I can include it ^^
@@BillySYT damn might be waiting a while but I look forward to it !
Just gonna leave a comment here for the algorithm. Now, time to binge.
"bearseeklestofthecurse" genuine lols!
"Your not gonna accidentally make it to faze two with radigone" well that is unless your dunkey lol
Also Mergo's Wet Nurse ranged clone mist attack can actually be dodged.
I've never understood the Elden Beast hate. Elden Stars is BS yeah, but I love everything about its design, arena, cutscene, and aminations.
Suggestion for a video
Soulsborne main game optional "superbosses"
Old King Doran (DeS)
Stray Demon (DS)
Smelter Demon; King Vendrick; Darklurker; Ancient Dragon (DS2SotFS)
Ebrietas; Martyr Logarius (Bloodborne)
Nameless King (DS3)
Demon of Hatred (Sekiro: SDT)
Malenia; Mohg, Lord of Blood; Dragonlord Placidusax; (ER)
These are the ones that I personally believe qualify.
I think optional bosses would work fine. But also calling the Stray Demon a superboss is iconic.
@@BillySYT I couldn't think of any other main game boss for Dark Souls
@@RevankiesKalameet could be a worthy pick.
remember, if it doesnt have a lightning spear, its not an elden ring boss
These videos are too good
ABSOLUTLEY unacceptable. Radagon is the best fight fromsoft has ever produced EVER
For me it goes:
True king Allant
Nashandra
Aldia
Gwyn
Radagon and Elden beast
Soul of cinder (the best dark souls boss)
Gehrman (my favorite boss in the series)
the darkness clone attack pf Mergo's wet nurse is actually and AOE attack that she casts and you can DODGE it surprisingly enough hehe.
10:15 shield named finger
I think you should have included Slave Knight Gael to this aswell, because he actually wraps up the entire story of Dark Souls 3, or even the entire Dark Souls series... Then again, the list would be really unfair in that situation...
good video man i prefer elden beast and radagon over gwyn but i get why people like gwyn but if you don’t parry gwyn his fight is fairly difficult in terms of DS1 but the music for elden ring final boss is what does it for me i love that theme so much
Gwyn is honestly a really enjoyable fight if it werent for parrying.
I do think Gael, even though he's dlc, should count as a final boss because he is *the final boss*
So what I'm getting from this is that Gwyn is Allant done right.
Bro you did not wield the sword right in the fight against the soul of cinder 😅
Everyone's a critic
Sekiro was my first soulsborne game (technically second since I played Elden ring till rennala but didn’t finish it at that point) and isshin literally took me 40 something tries the best of my tries were 25% of his spear phase and suddenly on my last attempt something clicked and I don’t even know what happened I beat him while my friend was watching me from the corner and I was shocked
Is that Full Fathom Five I hear?
Took me a moment to realize you were talking about the Tempest theme. I never knew it had a proper name.
@@BillySYT Shadowbringers had an amazing ost
I would not have put soul of cinder so high
If I’m so honest Imo the final fight of Elden ring would be better if it was just a beefier and slightly tougher version of radagon, and scrap the beast altogether
you should do a ranking of all soulsbourne boss music, ludwig has to be in the top three for me
It's a topic I definitely want to cover. I just worry that I won't be able to do any of the music justice when explaining what I like, since I'm not exactly musically literate lol
I think if you take Radagon into display you need to say throne watcher/defender in DS2 are final bosses too, or am I wrong?
The Soul of Cinder is one of my top five bosses(I played DS1, DS2, DS3 and BB. I can’t play DES and I’m not interested in Sekiro and ER). The other 4 are: Ornstein and Smough, Sir Alonne, Lady Maria and Gael.
