One thing I didn't mention in the review was the death system. If you die a second time in Lies of P before recovering your Ergo, it doesn't disappear forever, and instead each hit you take on the way back just decreases the amount you recover. I honestly don't have an opinion on this as I can take it or leave it. I'm genuinely curious what you guys think of this, am I the only one whose indifferent?
Not to mention, the "How the hell do I get out of here" escape consumable doesn't cost you all of your ergo, and actually gives you options (last checkpoint or hub).
It honestly stops me from Rage quitting the game in uninstalling it. The fact that I didn't completely lose my entirety of ergo give me a pinch of Hope
Wizard of Oz is next and I have a feeling its gonna be so fire. Alice in Wonderland is definitelyyyy something I’d love to see. But then I was thinking even something like a Peter Pan story line as well, would be dope
a dark version of Alice in Wonderland had been done before by American Mcgee. Not a Soul like but the idea was out there. I think a dark version of Peter Pan will be great. You can either be part of the Lost Boys or the Pirate and Peter Pan turned out to be psychomaniac kidnapping kid to fuel his hero fantasy or something along that line.
So funny that Rising Dodge is now a default ability as of yesterday's patch, but they added in an unlockable perk we didn't even have access to before in its place. Incredible dev team.
@@TheOneGreatwas going to say! i figured this out fighting scrapped watchman on my first playthrough (i spent a lot of time there… like, a lot) and my god did i feel guilty for fighting him after that. it was also super cool to see king of puppets trying to get through to you, and realizing there’s something more going on before you get his decoded audio message. i really liked reading what the puppets were saying and trying to figure out where the lore and story were going from it. tbh, i didn’t even realize you’d get a decoder, at first i figured they just expected people to figure out their cryptic storytelling, lol.
One of my favorite details of the game is with Pinnochio's idle animation. His puppet arm twitches and flexes and contorts ever so slightly on its own with such a nice feeling of this precisely tuned clockwork motorization going on inside.
I think it lost GOTY when they did the update to make the game easier now I feel like it's 2 easy (I'm a souls vet tho play n beat everyone so it's dif for me)
A few tidbits: - you can gain humanity by telling the truth, the game doesn't force you to lie all the time to get it. Also you can increase your humanity by listening the collected records in the hotel. - you don't have to fight with The Atoned if you defeat The Survivor in the factory and aquire the Stalker emote (sure, you will miss the conversation and foreshadowing from her, but there is an option to skip that fight) - you can learn about The White Lady from Subject 826 as well if you complete his quest in Chapter 11
Have watched over 30 Lies of P video reviews and yours was easily the most thoughtful, funny, and well-edited of the lot. Easy subscribe, appreciate the hard work and the laughs.
Good review One thing to note that I notice from your footage is that you rarely parry Parry really is what makes this game great. Yes, you can dodge but parry is what builds up the enemy's "destruction" state and causes the white bar to glow white way faster The Eldest of the Black Rabbit Brotherhood you can basically get into a stagger after parrying 2 combos, he's legitimately easy once you learn his timings
Yeah, I noticed this, too. Also, you can just block a lot of attacks without too much of a penalty. Whether you missed a parry or just didn’t want to risk it with a timing, it’s often fine. Stamina seems to regain much faster compared to ds games, so you can get chip damage back pretty reliably.
I had beaten the game twice without parrying… can’t say it was fun dying a few times, but once I learned about the perfection grindstone, I just use that and the 2 dragons sword to bully my way to victory
40:08 While i agree that it shouldn't have been an unlock for the dodging. I believe (personally) that it is that way in the beginning to encourage the player to focus on getting better at deflecting.
Adding on to this, seeing how much attention went into the combat design and animations, I want to say that the decision by the developers to make it an upgrade had to have been intentional. I just can't see a game with such a tight focus on combat and boss encounters making a decision like that on a whim. I do think it was a mistake, and if they patch and replace those upgrades with something else and give you the better movement by default I'll be happy, but I honestly feel that they did it as a, albeit misguided, learning mechanism for the deflection system.
Personally I don't see why being able to link two dodges together should be the default option, sometimes we find the silliest things to complain about. We're playing as a puppet who has just woken up, give him a minute to get acquainted with things lol I do agree that having this from the start would likely lead to players focusing more on dodging rather than guarding, and truthfully if you play the game without an emphasis on the guard mechanic you can still find success. And as for rolling off of the ground, why did you get smacked down there to begin with, it's not like every single enemy can just knock you over, and those who can likely hit you with a powerful and telegraphed attack, what's the problem with being punished for your mistake, it'll just lead to you learning from it. Peace and Love Gamer!
@@justkubz Yeah, that is also a fair assessment for why it would be limited from the start. There are a couple of moves enemies/bosses use that I believe (or at least very much look like they do) combo into each other if they pin you down and if you don't have the dodge off of the ground leads to you getting wombo'd. (2 examples that spring to mind are the shovel brutes where they slam the ground repeatedly after their fury attack, and victor in phase 2 [maybe also phase 1? Can't remember] where he throws/slams you on the ground and then moves to a stomp attack), in situations like that where you can react with upgraded movement but are punished for *not* having it I can understand someone being frustrated or even calling it unfair in that instance. Case in point, I haven't restarted on a fresh file yet but I feel that if/when I do just having to adjust to the movement options simply not being there could lead to frustration. I'll have to try it for myself soon to see though, for now it's just a hunch.
@@Jaknife101 Thinking about it more it does seem like if the upgrade is a must pick option, meaning that if you don't pick it you can find yourself at a disadvantage, I can see the criticism, but some of the upgrades are also increased uses of the pulse cell, which many would consider a pretty critical upgrade. I think at the core it does help the player really feel the power progression but I can see why the frustration has been voiced as it has. Thanks for the reply gamer, stay awesome!
Its the first time a non-FromSoft title has re-created the magic of that first playthrough. The reveal of the petrificatiom disease and the carcass enemy type, especially in that mini cutscene where you open the door that leads to the bridge to the cathedral, is nothing short of wonderful. Incredible game.
Walking onto the bridge goring to the cathedral and seeing the infected fighting with puppets was one of the most breathtaking moments I’ve had in gaming in a long time
Lies of P is only the third Soulsborne/Soulslike I ever played, is indeed the most difficult one yet, and despite being a newb to these types of games, I loved it. One of my favorite parts of the game is the way the skill tree is implemented. The fact that even if you don't unlock a specific ability from your p-organ, you still receive buffs just by using your quartz and select said buff. It's sometimes why I just go back to the hotel and use up the quartz ASAP as I find those enhancements to have a greater impact. Than the main skill you're unlocking. Also, have to appreciate the overall presentation of the game. The title screen alone, particularly when it changes based on how far you progressed, was a pleasant surprise. Also, now that I know DJMAX exists, very cool of Neowiz to reuse a couple of their songs and put it into the game.
I actually really like the second brotherhood fight. i found it more of a dance cuz you have to fight the main sibling while keeping distance of the other 2 to prevent it from being a 1v3 and just a 1v1 3 seperate times
It's funny though because I fucking hated the first BRB fight, but I loved the rematch. I didn't get immediately overwhelmed the roided big brother that takes out a bunch of my health, instead, I got to actually enjoy sparring with other siblings before having to deal with him. The first BRB is probably the only fight I absolutely disliked in the game.
The reason of dodging to be lock behind a skill tree could so that the player are force into learning the parry in the early game and later combine parry with dodging in the late game after you got the skill. I could see player relying too much on dodging of it was too good in the early game.
@@CashFlowz16that’s what I was thinking he was complaining about arch bishop but his attacks are so telegraphed and when I fought him I got like 3 crit strikes he just needs to parry
After my third playthrough, I think every single boss is an S tier, I found out just like Sekiro after you get used to the perry timing the game gets extremely satisfying, and then I started to notice how well designed each boss is how each attack is perfectly perryable how there is literally no bs attacks at all, I think bosses in this game are at a much higher quality than EldenRing bosses maybe because I love standing still and perrying attack instead of rolling and jumping more, but the idea that every single attack can be learned mastered and perried is just amazing, it's as satisfying as perring in Sekiro or shooting a gun at an enemy just before an attack to stagger it in bloodborne, it's just so badass, I made three builds adavnce, motivity and technique and the game justflows smoothly with each build. Lies of P for me now is in the top tier of souls likes right there next to Sekiro and Bloodborne.
I have been thinking this earlier. Sekiro has mastered the combat style it uses. It is just so great. Lies of P gives slightly more choice for players. Mainly, how much they want to play dodge game and how much parry /perfect guard game. These both work great and are totally great games. However, I think it´s much harder to balance the fights like that when you have huge amount of different character build options ranging from pure caster (several different types of casters too), to sword and board style and from spellsword, to powerstanding dualwielder or someone swinging huge weapon and relying hyperarmor and big hits (btw. poise and hyperarmor are something that´s missing in Lies of P). I´m personally one of those players, who can appreciate wonderful combat of Sekiro and Lies of P, but I like even more the available build options of Dark Souls games and especially Elden Ring. Bloodborne is somewhere in between, but it has just enough options and the story, atmosphere and everything is so on point that it might be my favourite of them all. Tough time calling the best between Bloodborne and Elden Ring as they have very different strengths. Anyways, my point being, it´s easier to balance things when you have basically just one weapon and more or less only one preferred playstyle. Also in Lies of P it´s easier to balance bosses when the game is pretty much completely linear. Devs can plan at what point of the game and at what level approximately players are facing which boss. I think it´s about 100x harder to balance the bosses in a gmae like Elden Ring because there´s so much options, be it character build sor the order and at what level players approach the bosses.
Couldn't disagree more about Laxasia. I understand where you're coming from about the delayed attacks being frustrating, but seeing that this game wants you to learn how to deal with them since almost every fight has some form of delayed telegraphs, dealing with her combos was some of the most fun i had in the game. She's tied with Nameless Puppet as my favorite fight. Also disagree about Manus. Sorry man, but I felt the game had properly trained me to deal with his delayed combos also, plus the visual spectacle and how he makes you pay more attention to your positioning in phase 2 as well as dealing with his fun gap closer attacks (reminded me a lot of Godrick actually, lol).
@@SGalaxyify She's up there with me for sure. I think Sword Saint Isshin and Owl (Father) might beat them for me, at least in terms of difficulty and the elation I felt when finally beating them for the first time in Sekiro. Idk, they're all so much fun it's hard to decide, lol.
It took me almost 4 hours to beat King Flame (the walking furnace). This was my first souls-like and for a moment, I thought that was going to be the end of my journey. However, the story had me hooked and I had to find out what was going on. I persevered and before I knew it, I was steamrolling the enemies and bosses (I would beat them on the 3-4th time using motivity). What an amazing game!! I absolutely loved it and am now making my way through Demon’s Souls. Personally, I enjoyed the atmosphere and overall gameplay of Lies of P more but now I feel confident taking on the challenges of this genre. Anyway, great video! It is clear this took you many hours to complete (trust me, I know). Great editing and explanations. Good job!
@@christopherlyndsay8611 I’m feeling mixed with Demon’s Souls. It feels really clunky. Maybe I should try a different class (I’m a Knight). I just defeated the giant spider that spews oil and lights it on fire. It’s just not as fun as Lies of P. It looks great graphic-wise but it’s just not that much fun. I’m guessing Dark Souls will be better. Maybe with more time, I’ll like it more but I enjoyed Lies of P from the beginning.
@@SoloBoardGamingKnight yeah if I were you I’d just skip to either Elden Ring, Dark Souls 3, Bloodborne or Sekiro, which all are just much better to play. Gameplay wise, Sekiro is the closest to LoP as it’s focused on parrying.
@@christopherlyndsay8611I honestly feel sekiro players may find LoP hard lol I personally did coz we have instant parry in sekiro and could spam it sometimes with unlimited stamina to dodge and run around while it’s slower and limited here wonder if the difficulty due to difference goes both ways
@@SoloBoardGamingKnightyeah people suck fromsoftware off but demon souls, dark souls2 and a lot of ds3 is either extremely mediocre or is just made to annoy the player so it’s not fun at all. Ds3 picks up later especially with the dlcs while blood borne and elden ring are masterpieces. I’d say definitely play these two and sekiro first then start with ds1 if you’re interested in that lore coz ds gameplay is extremely inferior to these games imo than even lies of P
Laxasia is probably one of my favorite bosses from any Souls-like game, FromSoft games included. From start to finish (it probably took me an hour to beat her) my adrenaline was pumping and it was the most exciting fight I had in my first playthrough. When I mained Two Dragons Sword in my 2nd playthrough, Nameless Puppet became my ultimate fave boss in the game along with King of Puppets and Romeo. My most hated boss is Green Monster. I liked the Brotherhood fights. I guess this is because of my stubbornness, since I decided early on to just parry every boss I encounter. It took me a lot of tries but by then I learned every moveset, understood the rhythm that the devs intended to make with these fights, and made the game more satisfying for me to play. This is just to offer a different perspective from the criticisms you made about the delayed attacks and other stuff. We all had different experiences playing the game and I think that applies to all games, that's why sometimes reviews can be a little subjective, especially if a game has different ways to play. With that being said, this is a very well made video. Great work!
See, you had the exact opposite kind of stubbornness to me. I basically refused to learn how to perfect block, or block at all, until I fought Lady of Illusions. I literally forced myself to learn how to perfectly guard just so I could beat her.
I really like the review, I can relate to the topics you touched without agreeing with everything you said, that tells me you’re a gamer doing reviews and not a reviewer playing a game. Subscribed! Edit : also, a spoiler warning would’ve been nice, but since it is a souls like I don’t care that much
100% S-Tier. Had so much fun fighting her. Loved it so much I beat her with an unupgraded weapon to make it longer and really learn hee moveset in both phases.
YES SIR. Okay, so you have good taste. Am I the only one that loves both brotherhood fights???? I thought they were so good and the second fight forcing me to strategize as far as focusing one and then killing the last two at the same time just to fight big bro 1 on 1? ⚡️ electric ⚡️
@@SGalaxyifyI thought they are the best multi enemy boss fights in any souls game. People complain about them being like 1v2, 1v3, but it’s just not true, unless you get close only 1 sibling will go aggro on you at a time, while the others just throw stuff, infrequently. It never felt overwhelming and and I adore the fights, especially the first
@@Delkesss I can see I’ve found my people. Love those fights so much. Being able to break big bros weapon too before even one sibling came to help was a game changer.
it's criminal that you don't even have 1K subscribers with the quality you deliver. You'r review is honestly the best one I've watched so far. You precisely tackle the points that matter. Only complaint I may voice, is that the whole breakdown of the bosses is not needed, it is a REVIEW after all. Other than that, great stuff and you earned yourself another subscriber today.
Great review, I didn't want to pay for yet another soulslike of unknown quality before trying it but then you mentioned game pass..1€ for 2 weeks when you join is awesome and this review not only convinced me but got me all hyped so downloading it now. Thanks, you deserve more subs.
Haven’t played this, but the video really made me want to! This would be my first Soulslike game ever. Excellent video, you’re gonna be famous one day with vids like this.
I love seeing all these smaller youtubers really coming to center field because this game is popping off. I'm on my third play through to get a platinum. Great video by the way
Neat. I'm appreciating hearing others folks' opinions on it. I went in not quite sure how I'd feel about it, came out absolutely adoring it. It is up with Sekiro and Elden Ring as one of my top 3 fav Soulslikes, dethroning og Dark Souls and possibly even beating Sekiro due to its many smart changes that help embrace some variety in builds. But I also liked a lot of the bosses you didn't (though Puppet King was overall my fav, as well) and didn't have a lot of the issues you ran into? After practicing against bosses I was usually able to beat their entire first phase without taking much or any permanent damage. Just a matter of taste, I suppose, re: the boss patterns/etc. and I can appreciate that it's a bit too difficult to play on the fly, I suppose I'm just used to grinding out these kinds of bosses. The main thing I didn't expect going in was that this was more like Sekiro than Bloodborne, which turned out to be a pleasant surprise as I really liked Sekiro's tighter, more focused gameplay.
The real Alidoro was also an Alchemist that didn't agree with what they were doing and left the org. He blew the whistle to the reporter Medoro to expose the machinations of the Alchemists but his reports were quashed by the rulers of Krat.
Your great FFVII rebirth review really showed you really know how to appreciate quality gaming, so Im happy to see you recommend this as I have been thinking about getting it. Im currently finishing up Steelrising which is my first souls-like game and its been an overall good experience but Lies of P looks really impressive overall fencing mechanic looks both interesting and challenging so looks like a game to enjoy for a long time to come, the weapon customizing seems really great , cant Wait to play this!!!😅😅
This game really did blow my mind, it's it's own game, I dnt even consider it a "souls like" cuz to me that means cheap knock offs cuz thats all anything NOT fromsoft is. Lies of P took a lot of inspiration from Sekiro and Bloodborne but it's it's own unique game with good lore and great world building. and amazing graphics and gameplay.
21:15 Man you’re the 1000th person I’ve heard say this, but the “Shock” damage that the door guardian deals isn’t electricity, it’s referring to the impact of his attacks. The same way your phone case is “Shock Resistant” doesn’t mean your phone is electricity proof. Him being big af is the reason he deals shock damage. Amazing video by the way 🙏
Thank you very much for making such a great in depth review. Loved this game already have completed 2 play throughs. More studios should make titles like this.
The game opens the door to a lot of ideas, i didn't see any video about story whatsoever, so following the story while playing, and then when we hear the audio from the king of puppets, i was shocked, i had the idea of who was the one behind the whole frenzy, but I didn't expect what the plan of the king was, it was truly amazing, great boss fight, i am underleveled now so I'm stuck in laxasia, got to farm and get some levels to be able to beat her
And then the brotherhood fight, the first one was good, the boss introduction was magnificent, the second one, I was about to beat the last member of the brotherhood and then the dialogue from that boss was like "it's time brother" I thought it was because it was almost dead, but then I died due to the AOE attack from the eldest brother, I was like that shit is coooool, didn't expect it at all
I agree with everything except the issues with having to unlock dodge rolling and having no poise. Yes, there is no poise but the parrying is so satisfying and, honestly, better than sekiro to me. Sekiro has this bizarre delay from button input to action on screen that Lies of P doesn't, making it feel instantaneous from attack to block. It's like Fromsoft brought over the artificial difficulty of the delayed dodge rolling from Dark Souls and put it on Sekiro's parrying but that simply isn't here and it makes up the poise issue for me by making your defense feel more impenetrable. And, as for the no dodge roll at the start argument, it's also true, but you just made it sound so much more complicated and absurd than it actually is. You wouldn't think using a rock as a tool is amazing, but a monkey would. Puppets aren't human. They are still learning. Kind of felt like I was watching someone point and laugh at a mentally handicapped person at that section of the video, and the person wasn't even a person but a monkey. Overall, though, good video will definitely be shared with friends. And the Ergo depleting feels soulslike but also different enough to be it's own thing. Recovering a pulse cell with each hit on an enemy to keep your run going is nice too.
I played this on xbox one on release. No stutters or performance issues. Some areas took an extra second to render properly when after fast traveling. One or two audio errors: some zones have a looping song playing that was replaced with a high pitched screeching after the first loop. It looked and played really well. On old gen hardware, I will take what I can get, and I got a treat with this one.
i loved the green monster fight once i learned it well enough. Countering a lot of its moves is extra satisfying for some reason. I also loved the first BRB fight
I would honestly prefer to play 1 linear game like Lies of P over getting to play 100 open world games. Very few open world games have worlds that actually fell good to explore throughout. Horizon Zero Dawn was one of the only ones, and it's sequel was unable to do the same (oversaturation of objectives). Elden Ring was not good for me. Areas like Raya Lucaria were fantastic, but the open world felt empty, pointless, and unrewarding to explore. Even when you take to people that love it, you'd be hard pressed to find someone that actively engages with the world, except to get very specific items. That's a sign of a failed open world. Skyrim, on the other hand, (a game I hate for it's overwhelming number of bugs and having lost 100 hours of save files to corrupted saves after the game crashed) had a world that players constantly engage with several playthroughs later. That, is a successful open world. Being linear is not a negative. It's other parts of the game that make people think it's bad (i.e. boring gameplay, crap story, etc.)
After playing through the game a handful of times now the delayed attacks don’t really bother me anymore now that i’ve learned the parry timings, but it can be very frustrating when you’re learning the bosses. The only ones I still find a bit annoying is swamp monster phase 1 slam attacks, jesus they are way too delayed. The bosses in general are pretty solid and there’s a handful of them that are really good. The combat itself is also really satisfying which goes a long way in making this game so good. Nameless Puppet is an amazing boss, I haven’t gotten satisfaction in a boss fight like that since Sekiro. Normally I hate delayed attacks but I don’t mind them against Laxasia. Once you kinda learn the tempo you can parry her attacks easily and some of the delayed attacks are so slow you can literally just run away and don’t need to worry about timing a dodge or deflect. I still really like the first phase but the second phase was too stressful for me for a while. Simon Manus is garbage though
Most of the criticism stems from the game's dodging, but the thing is the gameplay is more like Sekiro than Dark Souls, perfect block is the way to play this game it rewards you too i.e stance breaking, some weapons break after perfect block, shortening the range of attacks. The dodge skill doesn't help this game too, imo it misled players thinking "Oh no wonder the dodge is so bad, I had to unlock this skill for it to be good". Overall, you will enjoy this game much more if you focus on blocking and only use dodge to get out of attacks range.
Subscribed. I have been trying to tell my buddies that love souls games to play this. Sadly to no avail. I am obsessed with it and it made me finish it, then immediately start a new game plus playthrough. Brings me back to Dark Souls 1 and so many more great souls games. But they mastered it in there 1st try. The second game can only be a certified banger once again. And on Gamepass??!? A freaking steal. Im back on Elden Ring now because it has inspired me to reeally play souls games again
What.. someone who played this game and actually wrote an actual review that is comprehensible and took his time to explain how he came to his conclusion? Dope
I think they did the dodge thing to try and get people more use to the parry. Though i think that was a problem. I'm they listened to fans and now the dodge is given to you at the beginning naturally like it should have been.
GOTY in my book. I didn't play the demo. Didn't even hear about the game until it was a week before release. I just saw the cover and the name and thought it looked nice and interesting. Now, I'm about to platinum the game. 👍
It beat bloodborne for me personally. I think i have around 900 hours into that game since launch. I like a game that has interesting combat, a real story, and 60 frames. Also, this is the first souls game where i didn't want to run past all the enemies after awhile. That's pretty much when i knew.
uhm idk about beating Bloodborne for me, but I have 8 playthroughs (New games) and 1 NG+2 I'm going for another one.. it broke my left click in my mouse :(
@@looots1320sounds like you are emulating at 60 frames. That would probably make the 2 games equal for me in the end. If bb ran at 1440 @ 60 frames it would bump it back up again. That said the combat itself is much much better in lop imo. And when you're doing 8 runs, that matters more to me than the number of bosses or art style
Lies of P has been my favorite game this year. More than the new final fantasy and more than the new Zelda game - and I love those franchises! This was a masterpiece! But bloodborne and sekiro are my fav souls game so makes sense.
The thing I like the most about the game is the weapon system. Choosing your favorite handle moveset and then being able to swap the blade is so much fun, and often times when I'm stuck on a boss and die a dozen times I switch weapons and magically kill it then.
Great review! If there's another thing Lies of P's story has that is similar to FromSoftware's games is depth. The Soulsborne games have iterations of references to real-world, archetypal stories that are *really* good and takes references from things such as alchemy, the occult, and other such things. Lies of P does this as well. It iterates stories and concepts from Gnosticism (Monad, Valentinus, Sophia, etc), alchemy (the Alchemists and their symbology, the last area: Below the Abyss, Giangio's real identity, etc), other literature (The Picture of Dorian Grey, Wizard of Oz), and even anime (Ergo Proxy). The thought put into their story is *phenomenal* and is, I think, a great nod to FromSoftware's style of storytelling. Also, because I happen to really like it, the mechanic of being able to regain a Pulse Cell Charge after it's been Discharged is such a fantastic mechanic. The fact it is a reward for playing well enough to earn another healing charge is such a cool thing to have especially in a tough fight like against a Boss. You happen to get wrecked enough that you use all your heals but because you happen to fight well enough after the game rewards you with a heal in order to see if you can finish and succeed in your comeback. And if it does help you win? It feels *amazing*.
If you’re a big fan of FromSoft, you owe it to yourself to play this game. It’s not a Souls-like, it IS a Souls game. Also, has better music than Souls (I said it!)
Spoilers Man that plot twist with Geppetto causing the puppet frenzy is blaming the puppets for it is great writing and the realization that the puppets were not doing anything bad is absolutely crazy
Lies of P is transcendent. It authentically captures From Software's formula and iterates on it while developing its own identity. The first time you play Feel on the record player is a canon event.
Great review and I'm sorry to backseat you. You seem to really not enjoy parrying or blocking, not that you have to exclusively parry, but some bosses are better to parry, dodge, or block depending. Its like DS3 how some bosses it was better to dodge forward instead of being fully defensive. Regardless in this extremely contested year for amazing games this may be my game of the year.
2nd phase Archbishop was insanely cool, albeit some camera issue if you stay locked on to one side the whole time. I really liked that you could choose which move-set was easier to fight and play it however you wanted, I had no issues sticking to the backside head. Swamp monster was incredible, I love how they reused the Scrapped Watchman for the second phase while adding awesome new attacks and follow-up animations to a move-set you should already be somewhat familiar with. Black brotherhood 2 they still back off and fight you one at a time (taking turns) only with two throwing things instead of one big guy charging you, how is it that much different from the first fight? Seems fine to me. Laxasia is one of THE BEST bosses in any Soulslike and even beats out some SEKIRO bosses!!! I kinda agree with the Simon Manus, it felt like a little step down from the pure excellence that is Laxasia. Just felt like more of a spectacle fight and rewarded dodging more than deflecting at times which is a big change from most of the bosses that came before. Except for the criticism about animations, they felt fine to me. Definitely wouldn't consider it a "giant let down" as you put it. Really not sure why you had so much trouble with the delayed attacks in this game, definitely never felt like guesswork to me. Strange criticisms overall, I thought most of the bosses seriously rivaled or even superseded the souls games in terms of design.
I was extremely impressed by Lies of P, and I would also give it 9/10, but… I’ve been a Souls fanatic since 2013, putting hundreds of hours into them. Elden Ring took me 130 hours to platinum, and I still wanted more. In fact I’m having a blast with the DLC. But I could not wait for Lies of P to be over after just 30 hours. It really overstayed its welcome for me, especially with the last couple areas. I didn’t even know/care about the last boss because I was just done. Every time I thought I was at the end, it just kept going on and on, and like you pointed out, the bosses were getting slightly worse after King of Puppets. The issues you mentioned about the combat started to really frustrate me, and in general the game didn’t have as much variety in level design and weapons as From games, and it didn’t reward you quite as well for exploring. I still agree with everything you said, and I’m super excited for a potential Oz game and for From to finally have a decent competitor, but man I felt like I was stuck in endless chalice dungeons for a minute.
One thing I didn't mention in the review was the death system. If you die a second time in Lies of P before recovering your Ergo, it doesn't disappear forever, and instead each hit you take on the way back just decreases the amount you recover. You can get an item for gemini that can prevent ergo loss.

They aren't necessarily indecipherable. If you look at the symbols from afar you can pretty much already read it.

@@TheOneGreat guess u have super eyes bc i sure as shit cant read it
Oh is that through new game plus or just after you beat the game the first time in general?
One of my favorite details of the game is with Pinnochio's idle animation. His puppet arm twitches and flexes and contorts ever so slightly on its own with such a nice feeling of this precisely tuned clockwork motorization going on inside.
Also during combat, you hear grinding gears when you get hit, but as you gain more humanity, he reacts by grunting or breathing when getting hit.
This game is a GOTY contender, I loved everything about the game. The ending has me excited for what's is next
Dorothy souls would be rough with them flying monkeys 😂
I think it lost GOTY when they did the update to make the game easier now I feel like it's 2 easy (I'm a souls vet tho play n beat everyone so it's dif for me)
A few tidbits:
- you can gain humanity by telling the truth, the game doesn't force you to lie all the time to get it. Also you can increase your humanity by listening the collected records in the hotel.
- you don't have to fight with The Atoned if you defeat The Survivor in the factory and aquire the Stalker emote (sure, you will miss the conversation and foreshadowing from her, but there is an option to skip that fight)
- you can learn about The White Lady from Subject 826 as well if you complete his quest in Chapter 11
You don't actually miss her fight. You can come back later.
Your actually supposed to lie to gain humanity and to get the white and long hair your supposed to lie to the max

One thing to note that I notice from your footage is that you rarely parry
Parry really is what makes this game great. Yes, you can dodge but parry is what builds up the enemy's "destruction" state and causes the white bar to glow white way faster
The Eldest of the Black Rabbit Brotherhood you can basically get into a stagger after parrying 2 combos, he's legitimately easy once you learn his timings
I think that's probably why he disliked the boss fights soo much
@garethharriott9582 that's my thought as well. Probably why I was more okay with the delayed attacks, it let me time my parties better
I had beaten the game twice without parrying… can’t say it was fun dying a few times, but once I learned about the perfection grindstone, I just use that and the 2 dragons sword to bully my way to victory

While i agree that it shouldn't have been an unlock for the dodging.
@@justkubz You as well, nice discussing with you.
Maybe i should have gotten this instead of Lords of the Fallen 😢
Yes, you should have.
Yup it’s so good
Lords of the Fallen doesn't hold a candle to Lies of P.
I got both but im having a much better experience with lies of p 😉
Try lies of P one day
Its the first time a non-FromSoft title has re-created the magic of that first playthrough.
It had to be said. "Like the formula, we use the formula" 😂
I actually really like the second brotherhood fight. i found it more of a dance cuz you have to fight the main sibling while keeping distance of the other 2 to prevent it from being a 1v3 and just a 1v1 3 seperate times
Or just summon, use the cube to draw aggro, and spam backstabs.
That was the first BS fight where I started to use the spectre. Absolute BS. Too bad it went kinda downhill from there with a lot of them.
Nah, man. Black Rabbit Brotherhood rematch is the only fight I genuinely think is bad. Rest are supreme. @@TheOneGreat
Damn this is probably one of the best review I've seen for this game, great job sir.
I'm gonna be honest, for a channel this young, the content is amazingly well done. Subscribed for sure.
The reason of dodging to be lock behind a skill tree could so that the player are force into learning the parry in the early game and later combine parry with dodging in the late game after you got the skill. I could see player relying too much on dodging of it was too good in the early game.
Honestly this guy not parrying is probs why he didn’t like the bosses
Same, Sekiro was my first souls game and this game gives me that same feeling all over again.
Talk your shit bro. Laxi is my favorite fight in this genre
@@SGalaxyify She's up there with me for sure. I think Sword Saint Isshin and Owl (Father) might beat them for me, at least in terms of difficulty and the elation I felt when finally beating them for the first time in Sekiro.

I so hope Neowiz sticks to souls like. I almost only play soulsslike and feel like heaven this year!

This was my first souls like as Elden ring didn't "stick" for me. I love it, 10/10.
Amazing video by the way 🙏
Although I wasn’t a fan of recent releases like Hogwarts and Star Wars (gameplay lacked diversity ), Lies of P floored me.
I just killed the Nameless Puppet earlier tonight. I then started my NG+ run. I plan on getting all the achievements. This game is SO good!

You think you had it bad with delayed moves? Imagine how all those puppets you slaughtered with charge attacks felt.
Damn man great video so far…I can’t finish it yet, but when i finish Lies of P I’ll be back!!
The game opens the door to a lot of ideas, i didn't see any video about story whatsoever, so following the story while playing, and then when we hear the audio from the king of puppets, i was shocked, i had the idea of who was the one behind the whole frenzy, but I didn't expect what the plan of the king was, it was truly amazing, great boss fight, i am underleveled now so I'm stuck in laxasia, got to farm and get some levels to be able to beat her
And then the brotherhood fight, the first one was good, the boss introduction was magnificent, the second one, I was about to beat the last member of the brotherhood and then the dialogue from that boss was like "it's time brother" I thought it was because it was almost dead, but then I died due to the AOE attack from the eldest brother, I was like that shit is coooool, didn't expect it at all
How do you only have 90 subs we gotta fix that
I think this game is better than any souls like and fromsoftware game. Bloodborne will have to be 2nd only to lies of p.
Very well-made video. Good review.
Quality video bro
Alright Ziti this my first vid of yours and I fuck with you. Subbed and excited for more 🤙🏽
I played this on xbox one on release.
Omg dude, do NOT stop making videos, you're incredibly entertaining creator to watch!
i loved the green monster fight once i learned it well enough.
6:14 Best explanation ever. Like if it ain't broke, don't fix it; just add a little bit more 🙃 Simples.
so glad i found this channel
Channel needs more subs tbh. Great content :)
Dope
I loved the review and I am excited for the world they are creating and my 1st play through
Glad you share the same opinion. Hotel Krat is my favorite hub
Blasphemy
I could see how people could go either way on this, I believe they are both masterpieces.
Lies of P gets better and better the more I play it.
uhm idk about beating Bloodborne for me, but I have 8 playthroughs (New games) and 1 NG+2
I'm going for another one..
it broke my left click in my mouse :(
@@looots1320sounds like you are emulating at 60 frames. That would probably make the 2 games equal for me in the end. If bb ran at 1440 @ 60 frames it would bump it back up again. That said the combat itself is much much better in lop imo. And when you're doing 8 runs, that matters more to me than the number of bosses or art style
@@alexrogers9051its better than blasphemous as well. 🤓
I finished it 4 times for 100% completion. Its definitly my game of the year for 2023
Lies of P has been my favorite game this year.
Spoilers
Man that plot twist with Geppetto causing the puppet frenzy is blaming the puppets for it is great writing and the realization that the puppets were not doing anything bad is absolutely crazy
Lies of P is transcendent. It authentically captures From Software's formula and iterates on it while developing its own identity. The first time you play Feel on the record player is a canon event.
‘Lies of The Seven Dwarves’ would be DOPE
Good review I'm surprised you don't have more subscribers, the game is great and I hope they do a wizard of oz game in the same vein next.
For context its actually Round8 developed it Neowiz is the publisher. All great win
I was extremely impressed by Lies of P, and I would also give it 9/10, but…
I’ve been a Souls fanatic since 2013, putting hundreds of hours into them.
