I like Cuphead more than Disney stuff. The game has some unique things including vicious bosses like King Dice and that hot gorgon mermaid.
theyre inspired by disney though, at least the stuff from the 30s
cuphead was different because its not just about disney. its not so obvious most of the time, but cuphead was also HEAVILY inspired by classic gaming too

i think it is not just Disney inspired, rather the 30s cartoon from many studios... all looked kinda same.
@@b0ltun0 Honestly I feel there's more influence from Fleischer studios than Disney.
Something that stood out to me was the challenge of this game, its like they playtested it with the purpose of making every second of the game push you to try your best. There was tons of variety and you had to constantly learn to progress. Cuphead is an all around perfect game to me, but i think any gamer who likes a good challenge owes it to themselves to play this game

This game is the reason I started learning animation and game dev, I got the book as well, I reference it a ton, it's awesome!
Personally I’m not into games that much, I actually really really suck at them, which I guess is the reason why I don’t play that often haha. But, my brother plays games a lot, and I’m usually not Interested in what he’s doing but when he bought this game I was immediately attracted to the art. I would sit next to him and watch him play for hours, just admiring the details and design which I loved! Although I never really got around to playing the game, I enjoyed it from afar. It’s so unique and the whole concept just attracts me. I’m glad this game exists.
I love Cuphead (regardless of the fact the game frustrates me more than writing my dissertation back at university - although I managed to finish that somehow 😂).
I bought this book because I am passionate about 1930s cartoon and creating children’s literature. I want to use this book as inspiration and as something for guests to flick through in my home.

The pig merchant is not as "researched" as you think. I mean it is, but not by this team. It's literally a tribute to the same character in the game Wonderboy, who got a recent remake. Check that too, beautiful art.

An interactive piece of art is the definition of a game in general.
So many games aren’t art tho. Plenty of indie games are, sure. But FIFA isn’t a work of art. Call of Duty isn’t a work of art. They’re just supposed to be fun.
Rafael Grasseti is a fantastic artist. I follow the heck out of his work.
Got really excited about this particular episode because I have the game on my switch. The art style is amazing as well and the rich history you speak of that went into all of it speaks volumes. Definitely will be getting the book🙏🏽 Thanks for sharing.

I don't have video games and never played this, but I remember when this came out,, that I said: They need to do an Art of book of this! And it happened! NOw I only need to put the money together and/or wait for a black Friday or something. Then I'll be able to import it to my country. It surely gives me something to look forward to.
Cuphead inspired me to become an animator. My work is so silly compared to the Godly work in Cuphead, but it’s still so inspiring

This tool of character juxtaposition that he described is what you would call a foil. Foil is a powerful literary device to emphasize ideas through comparison.
I've been eagerly waiting for the release of this book for months now. I can't afford to buy the special edition like I had wanted, but I just picked up the kindle edition tonight. This vid definitely made me finally take the leap. I loved listening to you talk about the history of animation and storytelling and I can't wait to check out more of your stuff.
Porkring reminded me so much of the old "Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap" vendor NPC, right with the eyepatch and all. Kind of curious from where that design of a pigman with an eyepatch comes from 🤔
I have never played cup head but I do enjoy it's art style. It has such a nice vintage look that has disappeared.
It brings the old 1930's Disney animation, back then the best 10 Disney animator's were there with their beautiful character designs and art work (them being Milt Kahel, Art Babbitt , Tim Burton , ECT) I have the 'animator's servivel kit' book I'm not very much into books but I see this as the best book for animation basics and how the Author of the book 'Richard Williams' elaborates everything in a smooth way so the reader can understand even tho there is some complicated words in the book but it may be because of the timeline (idk why I wrote all this but I did anyway😁)

I just found your channel fairly recently, and I absolutely just had to write some sort of message to express my gratitude. If it wasn't for your wisdom and words of encouragement, I do not believe I would still draw and paint- despite the vast majority of my life that I have done both of these things. I had given up, more or less, without just outright throwing down my pen and saying: "I quit." I realize how now flawed my perspective of my own art was, and that the indifference I was being met with only holds the weight and value that I allow it to.
I'm going to keep pushing and growing and seeing where art takes me. And for that, I thank you, eternally.

Love this stuff, started off super realism and studied Industrial Design to working on my cartooning now. Its a different beast love the raw expressiveness that cartoons and anime have. On a side note being a Merchant/store owner has changed but not as much as you would think. Still have to find those rare commodities to compete and there is always risk of robberies. Whether it be on the streets at your place of business or your home. So allot of security measures have to be put in place to keep you, your employees, customers and business safe. (Speaking from years of experience in family business.)
maybe a weird thing to ask but i would love to see/take on braking down animation. ie like explaining how they did a thing,why they did the thing ect i know you are busy n all but like just an idea if you ever run out of art books or just bored

I love the art in the game. It is just a shame the stupid difficulty made me give up on it very quickly. I don't have the patience nor the time I used to have to suffer through it.

I like the quote about humanizing animals. It makes me realize why I'm really taken with the animation of "Beastars". I never was a huge fan of 'slice-of-life' or high-school settings for Animation. But they really make me wanna relate to the anthropomorphized animals!

I just found this is a great opportunity to see clear what makes a good piece of art. Thank you so much for making these videos. I have not played the game though *sad*.

The lighting in your videos is stunning. I feel warm & comfy listening :) And how do you that subtle pan left & right?! Is your camera on a toy train? Or dolly setup?! ....is it a pigeon you’ve trained walking back & forth? It obviously has to be a resurrected pigeon from the 20s or 40s, I dunno if pigeons are that smart but maybe...and just smooth out all the up and down camera shakes « Just stop moving your pigeon head for 1.5 millisecondes! »

Lewis Gads But I don’t think the intention of EA Sports is “Let’s make a beautiful, thought-provoking piece of art.” It’s just to make something for people to enjoy. It’s not “bad art.” It’s just not art at all imo.

you want your character to look like there personality and voice with weight and depth, you should know about that your character should also have that depth even in those situations, you should also make your character fits in whatever place or scene with colors that work for it as well.
