This video is really relaxing and has feel-good vibes. I love how you refer to your son all the time, falling in love with Zelda and loving the game. So nostalgic.
I wouldn't say it's necessarily Miyamoto's work (or Aonuma's), but rather a "creation" philosophy within Nintendo. All their main games share (or try to share) this. From Super Metroid to Super Mario World to Zelda ALttP, to Ocarina of Time, to Wind Waker, to Mario Galaxy and Odyssey to Metroid Fusion and so on and on... These are all games that mark the player, there's always some hidden special quality to them that is hard to describe, the "Nintendo Magic".
I realise how great of a dad you are when I think about how meaningful the Zelda games I played in my childhood are to me.. You'll be overwhelmed with the amount of nostalgia and gratitude your son will show growing up 😁
I don't really write comments on TH-cam, but I just wanted to thank you for the great content you create, you don't just talk about the book and the art, but what is beyond, beyond the lines, the colors and the shapes. It's great that you talk about the emotion and feeling that goes into artistry. Capturing those emotions is the first part of any artists ultimate goal. The 2nd part, is to have others share those same feelings they worked so hard to capture, much like a fisherman takes pride and joy in sharing their catch. The original Concept for Zelda came from the feeling and desire of being a kid and exploring (specifically the caves and countryside of Japan) and since the start the series has certain achieved that goal. I have very strong memories of most of the Zelda series games due to when they came out, that nostalgia increasing their emotional value beyond any precious gem or bar of gold. Oh and I'm still waiting on your Zelda artwork to help win back your son from Tyler lol.
Exactly the same sentiment here - the nostalgia, warm cozy feeling you'd get playing. Even the earliest top-down pixel version had this explainable comfort feeling playing - but of course, Ocarina of Time was the most impactful one for me.

I love this series Adam! I absolutely loved this episode since I fell in love with Breath of the Wild. I was having a crappy day at work and then saw a notification for this. It was like sitting down to a story time video and made me feel like a kid again :'D
The design of the ancient high tech civilization's (Shieka sp?) stuff ( Gaurdians and the tops of shrines etc.) reminds me of Richard Corbens "Den" published in "Heavy Metal" magazine in the 70s-80s. Corben uses an airbrush to achieve a 3d cartoon realistic look to his comics that is unmistakable. The Gerudo City is also heavily influenced by his style. I always see the studio Ghibli (sp?) comparisons but never the connection to Corben or any other artists, like Frank Franzetta or Mobius.
This was lovely. Your commentary and the music really added something to ‘just a flipthrough’. I absolutely want this book now, but I gained something else besides just seeing the book. Very nice job. :)
I just did a little design project creating weapons for the mysterious race of people that I think will be in the BOTW sequel (based on the teaser trailer and some info from the first game), this book was so inspiring to look at and read. Makes me feel like a kid and get really excited about all of the thought and care that the artists put into their designs, it makes such a difference even if it doesn't necessarily consciously register with the player. First project like this I've ever attempted but I learned so much. I've been listening to a lot of your videos, it's been very eye opening and just what I need in these hard times. I'm a university art student who has been learning a lot more on my own, I still need to get my skills together before I graduate and you've given a lot of great advice I haven't quite heard before. I know I still have so much to learn but your words have made me feel less intimidated by the process. While I'm more in the technical skill building phase right now I appreciate that you've helped me reconnect to the importance of the emotional part of it. Thank you!
I don't know what it is, but this video in particular has so many lessons so simply stated. It really shows your experience as an artist and director, and your care for your craft. I had to slow the video down and watch it four times to really grasp some of your wisdom Adam. Thank you for sharing this one.
I love your videos. I recently discovered your channel and everytime I see one of your videos and your art I ask "Where has this been my whole life?" Your words have helped me to appreciate more my work and feel good about myself. And I've learned so much about art, good character design and even a bit about life thanks to you. Keep doing this kind of work, man. It's amazing.
I have no words to exprime my gratitude to you videos, they are so true and really helpfull. I like the fact you touch more the mental of an artist more than just the technical stuff.
Put this book on my wishlist for my birthday just recently. Man, I love botw. Such a beautiful game and I love the almost classical hero journey in it. It's almost like in Mozart's "Zauberflöte" where the hero needs to go through water and fire and grow as a person along the way to safe the beautiful lady. It just a good simple story that works for kids but is still executed so well that people of any age can enjoy it...though I wish it wasn't just tugged away in cutscenes. I felt so proud when I slayed my first guardian because at the beginning they seem so invincible, it's still not scary so kids can watch me play and run around in the world a little...falling off mountains...😅
Seriously, is there a better woman than Princess Zelda for a childhood crush? ESPECIALLY in how, for decades now, she's become your wise leader and a brave soldier at your side once she's freed from distress? My little brother, he's ten, he's got that game too. And actually, Zelda is exactly how I'd love to have him see women. They cry, they get in trouble and can be overpowered by physical strength, they're simply humans after all, but hell, they can both kick and save a man's ass. And more often than not they're smart in situations where the men aren't. I haven't played BotW yet and I'm so curious for how she's portrayed this time. As far as I know, this time her "distress" is that she's been fighting Ganon for a century, i.e. you're "saving the princess" from being absolute badass. Me likey.
Im not sure if you missed or simply just failed to mention, but there is a very neat reason behind the design aesthetic regarding Kass, being the fact that that they based his look on that of a parrot where he is a bard. Parrots learn and repeat phrases and words, much like how a bard learns and repeats songs and tales. Pretty ingenious if you ask me!
Thank you for creating this video. Drawing, painting, and digital artworks are hobbies of mine and this video's helped me out to create something more expressive with character and landscape. All this time, I've been resorting to making things that I find beautiful without realizing that I've been limiting the creativity that lies inside the imagination. It's pretty fun to be abstract and free as well. But yeah, this video's helped me out, not only in terms of visual arts, but in music composition as well.
Thanks to youtube for this recommendation. This was so chill and interesting and I loved to have more insight in one of my favorite games. Awesome work :D
I really love this video because of what you said about seeing things through the eyes of a child, and being loose with your art. I'm one of those perfectionists when it comes to drawing. If it ain't perfect, it sucks. But seeing this has made me rethink how I approach my art. It doesnt need to be a perfect masterpiece the first try. Just explore.
Wonderful book for a wonderful game: But, there are 2 types of page turning: those who turn the pages in the middle, and those who take care of the pages a little more and flick the pages from the outside in.
This is so great, I'm loving your book review series. I shouldn't be spoiling myself because I really want to get this book for myself. Also I just wanted to let you know I'm a recent subscriber and I'm so glad I came across your channel, you're one of the most genuine and inspiring people I've seen and your words of wisdom and experience keep me feeling positive and motivated that I'm on the right track with my art career, so thankyou! :)

Jaylen Otero well we already kinda have that mashup with Twilight Princess and possibly Hyrule Warriors
I love your contents so much! It’s good to have a professional walking through and analyzing a concept art book with, and the vibe of your videos is very comfortable
I just want to say....thank you. Thank you for bringing your passion into showing off this incredible book. Just watching you muse over the images, appreciating the thought and effort that went into creating all of these images and this game... You made me so happy.
I felt something watching this video. Cant fully describe but I felt so many emotions. The idea that art is thoughts and emotions being put into a moment spoke to me greatly. Also your passion and ability to describe is a testiment to your craft. I really want to expand on the moment I just had
Wow man, this video was beautiful! Thank you for sharing so much information in such a sensitive way. I certainly enjoy this game and the whole franchise even more after watching this. Cheers
I love this series Adam! I absolutely loved this episode since I fell in love with Breath of the Wild. I was having a crappy day at work and then saw a notification for this. It was like sitting down to a story time video and made me feel like a kid again :'D
This is a really helpful video for character design, something I'm currently learning about at college - thankyou!
I think it's time for a review of the Metal Gear saga artbooks!
Agreed - although I'd be careful how I review it so it brought value to artists looking to learn - being extremely stylized
@@PaulPeredaArt I'm glad you said upvotes instead of likes - that shows me you're a redditor. Reddit OP
Wow. What a great video. This guy really gets it. I love it! I started playing this game 2 months ago and now I cannot stop!
Thank you for your words. I needed to hear this.
I love that the camera is slowly moving, makes the whole video be less stiff :)
this channel as a whole has been one of the best find on youtube for me, both for these videos and everything else uploaded
I love the book, I love this channel and I love this video. Very well put together❤️
Thank you!
Beautifully put, thank you Adam!!
I don't know what it is, but this video in particular has so many lessons so simply stated. It really shows your experience as an artist and director, and your care for your craft. I had to slow the video down and watch it four times to really grasp some of your wisdom Adam. Thank you for sharing this one.
Love the amount of depth in which the artistic choices are explained, great job.
One of the best 18 minutes of my life, well done, the detail you go into about each design is incredible!
Спасибо за информативный разбор творчества Сигэру Миямото а самое главное с огромной душевной отдачей!
Wow, I need to get this book once I finished playing the game! It is so pure and beautiful
I couldn't agree more - just a gem of an addition to my bookshelf.
I have never subscribed so fast to a channel. Your analysis is really getting me back into an artistic mindset.
2:21 right. thanks for this advice. it's so true
Beatle brings great joy to me each time I see him. Even if I don't have anything to sell him I still sell something to him
Seriously, is there a better woman than Princess Zelda for a childhood crush?
Me likey.
Mr. Duff really knows how to sell these art books.
I need to start getting sponsors soon lol!
I just found your channel today! Can’t wait to explore your content!
Moving camera is such a cool effect. Really nice video!
Wonderful book for a wonderful game: But, there are 2 types of page turning: those who turn the pages in the middle, and those who take care of the pages a little more and flick the pages from the outside in.
this is such a great and wholesome video wow
So great, thank you for the talk, your breakdown of the artbook is so inspiring. Loved the small movement of your camera, adds depth to the picture.
oh nice, I'm happy you like the subtle tweak to the video - and thank you for the kind words oh Captain my Captain :)
this is the best artbook review i've ever seen! i love the way you explain and mimic characters! nice done
I'm so glad you covered this. Was just given the book over the holidays.
Awesome isn't it! money well spent :)
That camera quality *Chef's kiss* Another Great one, this art book is full of designs. Watching these art book series is really wholesome, It almost makes me really mad I haven't played the game.
I know it's dangerous doing all these book reviews - it's making me wanna hang up my drawing pen and play games! Thankfully these videos consume too much of my time to play much.
Lucas has an awesome dad. Great video man.
Great video! Subscribed 😁 also love the subtle camera movements
Man your videos are super fun to watch, glad to have subscribed
14:55 They should have kept those larger designs for Zora’s Domain, the one in-game just feels small
Those are literally the same size designs.
I credit the video game industry-especially Zelda-for setting me on the path to a career in art. I pull so much inspiration from games into my work. Thank you for this great commentary! That piece about the ego was really helpful to hear; I feel like I suffer from that a lot and hope I will become more aware of it while it's happening.
Gave you a sub yesterday because of the Horizon Zero Dawn artbook video, very pleased to see this one show up :D. Your enthusiasm and passion for these artworks combined with your skill and knowledge is just tremendous. Not to mention your articulation, honestly just a brilliant channel overall!
It's not Miyamoto, it's Aonuma(general director) and Fujibayashi(director) !
