I've always wanted to try quilting but, even though I'm a great seamstress, I could never get a nice even finish with straight lines. I Finally decided to try again with my scrap pile and I love the result. I find that it's fun, easy and great for beginner quilting. ❤
Definitely love crazy quilt (or crumb quilt style) blocks. Fabrics just added at random (no rules!!) I love your personality (we could so be friends)!!! Blessings on your sewing 🧵 journey (and your creativity journey learning new skills) you go GIRL!!❤❤😊
I love scrappy blocks whether it's nine patch, flying geese, stars etc. Just love it all. I have lots of lovely table toppers that sit on my kitchen table with a jug with pothos growing in water on them. My table always looks so nice and friends love my kitchen table when they come over for a cuppa. Just all made from scraps.
I've been working on a quilt since roughly 2018 made from hundreds of I think 2.5" squares that I cut from around 3 or so years' worth of scraps. I have since got more scraps to use. But it's all colors of the rainbow and I arranged them in a diagonal rainbow(plus brown/black/gray/white). I may make some squares of #1 with my new scraps lol
Scrappy blocks are my favorites! I have a big stack of them, some more curated others random. I don’t know the plan yet but have several ideas-pet beds, jacket lining, car seat covers (nonfabric seats are the worst in more extreme hot/cold), meditation poofs (stuffed with the tiniest scraps of course!), maybe curate some for coaster sets, I’m sure other ideas will come to me before I get around to doing more 😅
Thank you Sandy! 😊 That was very interesting, and inspirational...I love them all, along with the brief history you gave of each of them! I'm going to try the pine tree first! Also, I love your tutorials! So glad I found your channel! And your accent...I can't decide if it's French or British...I'm probably far off, but I find it quite beautiful and it's easy to listen to you! Pair your lovely accent with your bubbly personality, and we have a winner! 🎉 Looking forward to seeing what you come up with in future videos! ✨
@@seweasybysandyThanks for asking Sandy. I'm sorry it's so hot there ...we've heard about it on the news! I hope you can stay cool and that the heat wave ends soon. As I'm sure you know, Canada is a huge country, so the weather varies from coast to coast. Here, in southern Ontario where I live, it's raining again today, but the humidity is low and that makes it much more comfortable. Yesterday a tornado touched down and did some significant damage a couple of hours east of us. Thankfully, as far as we know, no one was hurt.
My first quilt used the 9 patch and friendship stars in alternating blocks. I used some of the scraps to make log cabin pillowcases. My second quilt used 4 patch blocks and HSTs to create a checkered blue and white cat on a yellow background with a checkered border. My current project is the Irish chain, so more 9 patches.
@seweasybysandy Everybody seems to like them. Quilting is a new thing for me, and it lets me engage both the artistic and logical sides of my brain in a single project.
Please may I ask a question? When you are sewing the log cabin strips, is there any particular reason why you sew with the long strip on top? I would turn it upside down so I can see exactly where the block ends, but would love to know if I could improve my technique. Love your videos. Thanks xxx
Hi Jane, no reason in particular, it just felt more comfortable for me. Don't know of it's a lefthand thing or just the way my brain works 😊 do as it feels right for you, no problem.
I am trying to make a quilt block for a quilt. It calls for 2 - 41/2 hst and 2 sq’s. However, when I sew them together the points do not line up. It’s a square and and hqt on top and the opposite on the bottom. When sewn together the points of the hqt do not line up. What am I doing wrong? Please help. Thank you. Carol
Hi. I think they present better if they're straight. Also, if they're not very straight, I always trim them to make sure they aren't wonky when I'm using them.

The quilt code for the Underground Railroad is a great story but unfortunately it is only a myth. Not being critical, just sharing info. I love your bubbly personality!
Current thinking questions the conclusion that the quilt codes were a myth. The absence of a written record reinforces that this would have been an oral tradition since many who participated in these events were not literate at the time the events took place. Also, we have to be careful not to discount the oral traditions and history because they don’t conform to the current standards and practices of the dominant culture. I’m not saying this did or did not happen, but we have to question how much we discount oral history traditions when determining whether it happened or not.
I’m certainly no expert on the subject but here’s a couple videos on it if anyone wants to dig a little deeper. I was disappointed that it seems to be a myth. It was such a great story.
The most popular quilt blocks of 2024... do you agree? Am I missing any? Which have you tried? Tell me all about it, I'd love to know!

Where did u learn to quilt? On yr own or a formal class? U are so good at quilting…well done, n thx.😊😊😊😊
Hi. I never took classes, I learned everything online. And now I'm paying it forward 😀
What mini iron do you use?
I bought it on Amazon, there's a link to it in the description.
Are you cutting off the outer seam allowance for a specific reason?
