The best Thor movie in its franchise. Ragnarok provided a new take but it also began the downfall of Thor. After Love and Thunder, I wholly appreciate the serious tone of Thor And Thor the Dark World. Funny how the first Thor was originally very maligned.
Ragnarok was balanced. Love and Thunder was, thematically, WAY too dark and sad a premise to have included the wackiness. If they had just toned that down… they ruined one of my favorite Thor arcs, too.
Well Chris Hemsworth has stated he won’t return till they tone down the humour for Thor films. Thor is meant to fight the low high tier threats. He is meant to be serious.
@@Gothic7876 Funny enough, in every thor movie except this one, it felt more like hemsworth was playing himself, not the character of Thor. I don't think he was a great casting choice, and I'm not super optimistic about his future in the role considering he threw Taika under the bus following Thor 4
Outside of the MCU (Imagine that) Thor has said, "Never let it be said the God of Thunder does not know how to make an entrance." It's his expertise and it has long predated "Infinity War."
This is the moment Thor became worthy. Thor’s entrance at Wakanda signified the culmination of everything creating the most powerful version of the Viking God. This is where and how it began.
That Odin scene when he cries was rly on point. I'm sorry I punish you. You was right from the start. Thor 1 and Iron Man 1 still to this day are my fev MCU movies. But for me Dark Knight Trilogy and Men of Steel are diferent lvl. God lvl movies when we speek about superhero movies.
It’s far from a perfect scene but this movie compared to Love and Thunder is Oscar worthy. I really like the redemption arch and the general plot. The acting overall was good but the reactions to what happens in the scene make very little sense. People would react much differently when someone you really care about is about to face a seemingly unstoppable force and then appears to díe in the fight. They wouldn’t just stand there with hardly a reaction. I don’t fault the actors for this, it’s likely the writers and director.
@@somethingtojenga The scene where Mjolnir comes to "resurrect" Thor because he did the ultimate sacrifice by giving his life for the greater good (saving the "mortals") is what gives me goosebumps every single time. The lightning that strikes him to restart his heart is a well considered added detail as his the good of thunder and lightning is what gives him his powers not the hammer itself. The hammer was just enchanted by Odin to give the powers of Thor to whoever is worthy of them.
"Hey so are you sure you want every single shot at a slanted angle. I mean, even the action scenes?" "Yes. Don't ever ask me a stupid ass question like that again"

Odin learned right then and there his son Thor had changed and became a kind, compassionate and most of all selfless man and was now worthy of his Norse god powers and mjolnir and allowed to come home.
We can all thank Kenneth Branagh for this movie, which to my mind is the strongest entry of the MCU so far. The tone, pacing, and plot were all spot on.
@@antona.8659 Actually it should be the other way around as Ragnarok is better than Thor 1. In fact, Ragnarok is better and the other three Thor films combined.
@@pnut3844ablePoint is, he did not have the courage to use the Destroyer's fire against his brother, choosing instead to slap him out of disrespect. Too bad it was a Destroyer-sized slap, well capable of taking out any regular person 😂
Back when, thor's character had some depth and was a noble god. Now he's out there "finding himself" for the 6th time in his lifetime. Thor's first 2 films sucked doesn't imply that thor sucked, this thor was much better
his character had depth? Man, his character was absolutely bland back then. And interactions between characters become so easy and interesting when some comic relief is included in the script. Can you imagine how this Thor's interactions with guardians would feel like? Also, this would be the first time he really has nowhere to go and needs to find his purpose. Yes, they have been incorporating this concept with him since Ragnarok, but the major focus was never about him discovering himself.
@@hashtable4665 I agree, the first two movies Thor was very bland and serious. Didn’t have any depth. The first Thor felt rushed and the second was just bad. The best moments were the few comedic lines he had. Taika taking on Thor was the best thing marvel could have done.
No depth? The first film was about him learning humility and valuing the lives of others over his own pride. Plus there was the issue of Loki's struggle with identity, and which made Loki a fan favorite from the onset. The second movie dealt with Thor in conflict with Odin over whether the ends justify the means. Does sacrificing your people to save the rest of the universe remain the moral decision when you're their god and protector? Just because you didn't find depth, that doesn't mean it wasn't there. Now please, tell me how deep Love and Thunder was by comparison. His shoehorned in puppy love obsession with Jane that we've never seen in any movie until this point? His weird arc of becoming a father which had no foreshadowing or precedent in any other movie, let alone that one? His nonexistent reflection on whether Gorr might have been right about Gods being selfish and useless? Oh right, they scrapped that plot point too and instead just had Gorr turn good and save his kid at the last second. (remind you of any other MCU film that just came out?) Let's also not forget the completely illogical cancer plotline that Jane went through. She has cancer, so she finds the hammer to help it. But the hammer actually makes the cancer worse. But by that point she needs to be a hero so she keeps using the hammer and ends up dying when literally all she had to do was never pick up the hammer in the first place and she would have died anyway. Like what was Waititi going for there? She's being noble by dying from the hammer, despite the fact that she had stage IV cancer and would have died anyway? SO DEEP.
@@derek96720 Dark world had no depth for Thor. Besides, the Lobe and Thunder plot was okay, especially with Jane getting cancer and wielding Mjolnir, something that lines up with the comic.
I'll always say this is one of the best moments in the MCU. It is perfectly framed. For about an hour previous, the soundrack was morose, and minor key. It was quiet. It was muted. In this moment when Mjolnir returns to Thor, the theme of the movie is brought out in glorious major tones, and the people who have thought he was an insane man see the God of Thunder for the first time.
Sadly I don't think we'll ever get marvel movies like we used to. Spiderman: No way home was an outlier with Sony influence. I think infinity war and end game were the pinnacle of the MCU. Nowhere really to go but downhill.
@@johnnyskiedGuardians 3 was also solid. I’d completely understand if that movie was the finale of the MCU for many fans. Phase 4 was just a trainwreck for the most part.
@GabesEdtiz I'll watch it on demand. I'd possibly be interested in another Thor if they went back to the feel of the first one and got solid writers and a serious director. He went from great character development and worthy of Mjölnir at the end of number 1 to a bafoon.
They did have plans for the Destroyer to somehow appear in Ragnarok but that didn’t happen. Also we still have some serious movies like Ragnarok and the first part of Love and Thunder.
One of the best scenes of all the Marvel Movies. Music by Patrick Doyle next to Alan Silvestri the best music composer Marvel had. Will someone besides Kenneth Branagh use this man to score some movies . Yes thanks director Mike Newell Goblet of Fire for proving me right !
@@TheRailLeaguer Absolutely not! Ragnarok was so disorganized and the only reason people like the movie is because of the humor and memes when they're not seeing the bigger picture, like how the plot makes no sense!
The fact he pulled it out to the sky before blowing it up, so as to not damage the town and harm innocent people; speaks something about his character. (Although the shockwave, as shown by nuclear tests and that one great marine 'munition explosion incident near a port; should have been even bigger, since the ground couldn't absorb most of it.)
Thor has had the best comebacks in all of the MCU. This scene was epic, the Thor Ragnarok, (Are you the God of Hammers? scene) and obviously the best scene ever was the Wakanda entrance in Infinity Wars. Thor is by far my favorite character.
This is the hero that I was looking for, but unfortunately deprived of in the MCU. Also I miss the majestic soundtrack. Thor doesn't need Guns and Roses. He already has his own signature tune. ALL ALONG.
@@jimgeorge3273 nobody in a million years, nobody who knows Thor at some capacity, would think that Guns 'n Roses songs would fit Thor. They don't. They're Americanized bubblegum hard rock. Swedish metal, that's what fits Thor.
The destroyer was one of not only Thors coolest villains, but Marvels coolest villains too. Its a shame they killed him off in this movie. They shoulda brought him back once more, or have thor rock the armor like the comics.
I always liked the scene earlier in the movie when the Destroyer first arrived on Earth "Is that one of Stark's?" "I dunno, Tony never tells me anything!"
I love this scene and one my most favourite film scores. And then Mjolnir at the speed of a modern missile soars to his hand like a magnet to earth. "Whomever shall holds this hammer, if he be worthy shall possess the power of Thor".
I watched this in theaters in 2011. As an 18-year-old, Chris Hemsworth’s performance as Thor felt so truly genuine. Even though it’s a long shot, the fact that Thor learned how to be selfless and risk his life meant so much to me. Then, to see him be chosen to rise up again as a real god… man. What a film.
I would absolutely love to see it come back, but it would be over-powered. Imagine if they had control over the Destroyer armor during the battle against Thanos' army in Wakanda. It alone would've demolished most of Thanos' forces. That fire beam would've cut right through the swarms of aliens like a hot knife through butter.

It's been a while but this might be the most Thor-y thing that happens in any MCU offering. Hovering in the eye of a storm. Even the Infinity War StormBreaker entrance wasn't as honest to the character.
this is the moment i stopped being a movie snob about the MCU and started to respect it. Then the elevator scene in Captain America winter soldier cemented my newly acquired fanboy status!!!
I did like Thor Dark World, but the plot for Thor Ragnarok was so disorganized and it made no sense! For example, Odin and Hela destroyed civilizations and yet the movie didn't even focus on that background! There was no scene with Odin's confession! Can anyone explain that? 🤔

One of the greatest moments in a superhero movie. It's everything that should be in us instead of the desire to be famous and powerful.

The hammer was just enchanted by Odin to give the powers of Thor to whoever is worthy of them.

Nah...Every superhero has to be a standup comedian now...
Sadly, you are correct.
The only Thor movie I can watch over and over again
This was the best Thor movie which had substance n character in it. The rest were jist comedy.
Sad how far the MCU has fallen since then.
(remind you of any other MCU film that just came out?)
Let's also not forget the completely illogical cancer plotline that Jane went through.
Pretty much like the mythologies.
i'm still impressed by how good the destroyer actually looks.
MVSJVSNVSIVSBVSV
This is the Thor we want to see again in MCU ! This is the Thor we deserve !
Sadly I don't think we'll ever get marvel movies like we used to. Spiderman: No way home was an outlier with Sony influence. I think infinity war and end game were the pinnacle of the MCU. Nowhere really to go but downhill.
@@johnnyskied hey at least secret invasion looks good

@GabesEdtiz I'll watch it on demand. I'd possibly be interested in another Thor if they went back to the feel of the first one and got solid writers and a serious director. He went from great character development and worthy of Mjölnir at the end of number 1 to a bafoon.
it's a funny idea, why would you deserve anything? you didn't do anything to "deserve" something

I always liked the scene earlier in the movie when the Destroyer first arrived on Earth
"Is that one of Stark's?"
"I dunno, Tony never tells me anything!"
Why is the Destroyer almost never used in marvel stories? It’s so cool looking. And it made Loki better at fighting Thor than Loki can by himself.
One, it was “dead”, and two, that’s kinda the point, I think
I would absolutely love to see it come back, but it would be over-powered.
Imagine if they had control over the Destroyer armor during the battle against Thanos' army in Wakanda.
It alone would've demolished most of Thanos' forces. That fire beam would've cut right through the swarms of aliens like a hot knife through butter.
