  • Having spent months trying to dip under 20 minutes at a parkrun, I wanted to see if I could repeat last week's success. I chose the attractive Walsall Arboretum parkrun. This is a 3-lap course, pretty flat and with not much congestion.
    I attached my Insta 360 Go 3 to my cap to get a full point of view of the course, so you can see exactly what it is like.

    Nicely done John. I was wondering how often you think a runner can do an all out race effort? Is there any rule of thumb? I suppose it depends on a lot of variables.

      @tworunningbrooms  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks Steven. One rule of thumb is one day recovery for every mile raced. But I reckon, as do many seasoned runners I know, that you have 2 or 3 major efforts in you per year. Beyond that you're compromising. Last summer when we did the 5k series I said that I had rolled out a sequence of 8/10 performances rather than one special one.
      So it's up to the individual if you'd prefer frequency and good or less frequency but very good / outstanding.

    Well done John, superb running! I’ve heard that parkrun HQ now frown upon tourism? 🤪

      What they think seems to change with the wind. My issues isn't so much with changes. I can agree or disagree as we all can.
      What gets me is the rewriting and denial of their own history. As a historian I can think of plenty of organisations and societies where that has happened and it doesn't end well.
      We were on our way to Brum anyway 😀

      No they dont - they just dont promote it, its more of a neutral stance than frowning on it. One aspect of tourism they dont like however is some of the challenges that encourage huge numbers of people to visit on a given date they hate that! (Bushy 999 and 1000 coming up - try keeping me away Russ LOL)

      @jl45000019 So Bushy parkrun are going to be really shocked when there is a massive turnout when those days arrive ? I think not and provision will be made.That's how they dress things things up using other reasons to accomplish their own agenda without being straight. They openly stated parkrun tourism doesn't fit with their commitment to help the fight against "climate change ". Maybe they can put out a request for runners not to run so fast and restrict the amount of CO2 they breathe out.
