45-70 is one of the few calibers I feel comfortable with in a single-shot rifle.
Because if you need to hit something with this more than once, you're probably screwed anyways.

As always, you deliver the best video’s on you tube! Thank you once again for delivering the best ballistic tests of firearm calibers! You are the best teacher of what different calibers preform no matter what the platform is.! My hats is off to you!!! The 22-250 test is still waiting for you to show the world hydrostatic shock on impact and how much destruction this round has on impact up to 600-700 yards..you are the best firearm teacher of bullet effects and results on you tube that I ever seen! Great job!

And just think.... The .243 smokes the 22-250 using comparable 55g cartridges. That's why I bought the .243. Very versatile caliber. Will also shoot 100+ grain cartridges if need be.

I have the Marlin 1895gbl with a red dot site mounted on top of a picatinny rail and I can say that it's just awesome to shoot. It's not as soft a shooter as the .44 but you wont have any problem with it. You'll love it. You can even use it for home defense. The .45x70 will take you anywhere you want to go. peace out.

Bjerken Badger-I’ve got them both...I love my model 1894 carbine in .44 magnum. It is an awesome rifle...I’ve killed big hogs and a couple deer with it...BUT, my 45/70 Marlin model 1895 is a completely different class of Rifle. You NEED A .45/70 Government Marlin Model 1895! I bought it for an Alaskan trip to visit my son in brown bear and moose country. There is NOTHING on this planet you can’t harvest with this rifle. I have an 1895 Trapper (which I adore!) and the full Rifle shown here. Yes Mr. Boyfriend, SHE ABSOLUTELY NEEDS THIS RIFLE! You’ll Love it!

In 1988 I ordered a TC CONTENDER from the custom shop at TC, chambered in 45-70. It has a 16 inch barrel and is Magnaported. I have taken 17 Whitetail deer with this gun in the 31 years. I first used the 405 gr. Remington round. But as you can guess, it penetrated too much. Since then I have used Remington 325 gr. hollow points. I have never had to track any of these deer. They all just dropped in their tracks. There is a 2× Leopold long eye relief scope on it that I bought when I bought the barrel. The scope is as good as new, even with all of the recoil that it has taken with this round.

Just started the video. My dollars are hard cast for penetration. 45.70 is a great and versatile hunting round. It’s the old school 30.06 IMO, just 30.06 is a newer, ballistic tipped cousin. Hollow points were designed for energy delivery upon impact, some pass through, and some don’t. I’ll edit when I complete the video with my opinion of best round for hunting.
    EDIT: 🤣 Thumbs up bitches!

When I was stationed at Glasgow AFB FROM 1966 -68 my friend had a vintage 1892 Winchester in 25-20 We used 60 gr hollow points at 2200 fps but we put Vaseline in the hollow point cavity and it really did a job on ground squirrels it really expanded and caused incredible damage we were shooting at about 50 to 70 yds with iron sights

You love your 45-70. Milk jugs must fear you. You are correct about hardcast penetration but the difference is even greater going through ribs or a shoulder where the expanding rounds dump all their energy upon immediate impact and don't get to guts. The flat nose does not deflect in direction like a sensitive pointed round does. I enjoy your vids. I use 430gr hardcast @ 2150fps. Still hard to beat a 12ga 1 1/2oz rifled slug.- I hardcast and load my own in both loads. You are a lot of fun and info to watch. Keep it up. Thanks, JC

I also am a lover of the 45-70!! I own a Marlin 1895 Cowboy action model 18.5” octagonal barrel, 6+1, Ballard rifling!! This rifle is the best lever gun there is!! It has the perfect length barrel for optimal velocities same as the 24” Cowboy model but much more flickable for brush hunting or home defense!! The 2019 Marlin 1895’s made by Remington are one of the best Marlin’s ever made!! Why? Because the older JM Marlin’s cannot shoot the higher pressure 45-70 bullets made presently because their chambers are too weak and the bolts do not lock up as snugly!!

I'm a lever gun kind of guy from way back....As in back in the 1960s....If you get the chance to back up to 50, 100, and 150 yards with BOTH rounds from the same rifle you would be doing a lot of hunters a good turn.....And might even get something of a surprise. By the way, give filling milk jugs with sawdust soaked in water a try with the same rounds and rifle at the longer ranges mentioned above for an "interesting" surprise.

I tried them plastic tip things had two perfect shots on a deer don't know where that ammo went but judging by the two foot flame from the end of the barrel the next State I suspect, anyway reloaded with the hollow point hit right where I was aiming so I am staying with the lead hollow points just regular hunting loads.

People come out with all these different new calibers looking for the sweet spot in calibers but forgot 100 years ago they still experimented non stop and they had enough technology and hands on to know what worked. 4570 is perfect for killing any game animal and a good old 3006 is probably the most diverse all around caliber for anything in history. Tried and true.

Well that was a surprise! You should use those larger just in 1 then 2 then 2 and 3 wide with maybe a 5 gal pale right after the milk jugs... maybe you will catch it? Imagine if you had four coyotes lined up perfect. Bet you would pass through at least three with one hard cast. Two smaller hogs for sure.
