    It looked like to me based on the splash from the water that the 450 dumped alot more energy in those first 3 jugs than the 45-70. I just wonder if it's from the much larger expansion of the 450 bullet. Either way I do not want to be one of those jugs.

    • @WHOTEEWHO
      @WHOTEEWHO  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Lotsa power in this vid for sure!

  • @sodomyte
    @sodomyte 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Hmm? A little strange. Ballistics show the 45-70 to have a bit more punch (with modern loads) so I expected the 45-70 to dump more energy quicker and stop sooner than 450 bushmaster. The paper plate certainly suggested that, also. This test defies that. I think it is safe to say, they run neck to neck; you can step into grizzly country with either.

    • @happytimes724

      Yup I agree. I have both. Wife carries the 450 (less recoil), and I carry 45-70 lever action with my 10mm as back up.

    Really interesting that the 450 bushmaster opened up so much. My guess is that the maker of the 450 uses. Softer lead than Winchester. Always cool to see lead head bullets perform like that. Great video as always

Love your videos WHO_TEE_WHOO, and love your 1895 as well. In your opinion which cartridge is king, the .45-70 or .450 bushmaster? Cuz .458 socom is too damn expensive and isn’t nearly as powerful as either of the first two.

    WHO-TEE-WHO
    You keep testing the .45-70 with the wimpy bullets that caliber was not designed with. The .45-70 was loaded with a .405 or the 500 grain round nosed Gov. lead bullet, mostly the 500 gr, with low velocity the black powder loads generate.
    Velocity is not the answer for more penetration. The .45-70 loaded with the Lyman #457-125 Gov bullet at 1250 fps you would need a longer plank to hold quite a few more water jugs. :D
    Butch.

    ur using sharps safe .45-70 ammo in 300 gr, scaling it back to meet the limitations of the .450, the .45-70 is a 405 gr round, theres not comparison, the .45-70 is better, then ur using a hollow point vs a soft point? whats next u gonna race a 4 cyl mustang vs a honda to make it fair, then claim the mustangs no better?

    Something tells me the 45-70, if given a second chance like he did with the .450 bushmaster, would have possibly ended up in the 7th jug instead of popping out of jug 6 and ending up below jug 7.

    Interesting how paper plates showed more loss of mass and greater pen on 450 but in water 45 did better and close to 450 in expansion. Guess if 450 hit bone it might lose more mass than 45/70? What do you all think? For hogs and other boney game which would you all choose? 450 does have benefits like AR compatibility. I am looking for hog gun and am fine with bolt or lever gun but with 450 an auto loading rifle has merits. Thanks for seeing I am not well verse in ballistics and terminal performance.

      @@ladwiss That's what I did. That 450 is a beast! I haven't played with it to much, just one trip to the range so I really can't comment yet on accuracy, but that is one hard hitting gun. Kicks about the same as a 12ga slug. One issue I will warn you about is, I live in Michigan and ammo is very expensive and almost impossible to find. I finally gave up and bought some dies for my reloader and I'm just going to reload my own

    How has the Ruger held up? I love the 450 cartridge but every American ranch I have encountered the bolt feels like absolute crap like the machining over all was done by a middle school shop class in West Virginia , I don't mind the polymer stock for the price and although I absolutely despise no iron sights I could still be sold if the bolt felt better,I want one but not if it's unreliable awkward crap basically

      BassinBeast 45-70 has more range and go up to 500 grain hard cast rounds for elephant, it’s the smallest dangerous game cartridge you can use in Africa. I personally use 325 grain FTX Hornady rounds in my Marlin 1895 SBL for any and all medium to XL game. The 450 Bushmaster is cool and I will be building one but the 45-70 is better all the way around.

    in my opinion this test might not be super accurate because if u shoot one of the rounds at the top of the jug there is less water weight on top of the bullet when going through vs if u shoot one of the round at the bottom with more water on top which slows down the round not allowing more penetration
