Hundreds of Birds ‘Free Fall’ Out of the Sky

  • It’s a perfectly calm moment in Mexico, when suddenly, something mysterious falls from the sky! It’s a flock of black birds swirling to the ground, and it’s absolutely stunning. Hundreds and hundreds of the birds appear like a plume of black smoke. Within seconds, many of them fly off, but a considerable number are killed upon impact, left scattered on the ground. While it looks like they’re just free falling, Miami Zoo’s Ron Magill says that they were actually on the run from a predator.

This is false. Fish for example swim in groups to avoid predators (because predators will have to traverse larger distances until they find a prey), and when the group gets attacked by a predator they swim in all different directions to maximize they survival chances (as predators will get confused) and then slowly group up again (smaller groups first, then a big one). This same principle applies to flocks.
This is explained in several books about chaos and complex systems.

Magnetic anomaly, pulse. Birds as a flock, lost their up/down bearing same as stunt aerobatic pilots sometimes do during manuevers. Entire flock dived, lost track of how close to the ground they were, slammed into the ground full speed. Most got up, flew away but a number of them died on impact.

My guess is that their flock was to low above ground, then one of the birds spotted some threat then moved in the wrong direction and the swarm navigation sent them all downwards. It's because when they fly in the swarm they don't really look where they're going, they just look at the distance, direction and speed of the birds directly around them and try to maintain the desired position without regard for the movement of the whole swarm. They practically follow only two rules: Try to stay in the center of the swarm and maintain a proper distance to the other guys. If one bird moves downwards the birds around it will do the same and birds next to them will do so as well. A chain reaction. In this case it was the wrong move. But the toxic gas cloud (carbon monoxide knocks anything out for instance - although it would be unlikely in high altitude) and electric shock theories aren't far fetched as well. I could also imagine that a strong magnetic field from high voltage lines or a relay station made their whole gyro sense go haywire. Poor things. I hope they didn't suffer a lot. 😢

    • @GrandHighGamer
      @GrandHighGamer 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Birds perch on wires all the time, and the inverse square law makes those fields pretty small (or else compasses, including the ones in your phone that make GPS work properly) would be constantly broken too. Predator, pure accident, weather issue, or even something like a drone could all cause this. The fact that most flew off makes anything like poisoning or electrocution seem unlikely.

This happened near a small city called Rubio that is minutes away from my hometown of Cuauhtémoc, in the state of Chihuahua, México.
A similar event happened right outside my house a couple of years ago. The same type of bird too, they migrate from Canada in the winter.

It's never happened with a flock, but I've had birds run into my house's tinted window about 2-3 over the last 10 years. One of them died from the impact, and the other two times the birds were just stunned for about an hour, and then flew again after recovering from the impact. They were parrots all three times, and I live in Asia.

It really broke my heart, I feel so awful for some of the birds that died or got seriously injured. I wonder what it was that made them do that. It looks like that old horror movie with the birds attacking (not sure what it’s called) I hope it wasn’t toxic fumes or electrocution, makes it hard to believe it’s a defence thing because I’ve never seen anything like this or heard of such thing. This is a unique situation but yet a lot of animals do crazy things for self defence so we really don’t know for sure.
Edit: thank u for letting me know what the name of the movie is.

You know birds have wings right? Wings that make them fly by pushing air down beneath them? You're watching the downforce of a 1000 birds at once. Or do all of you see the dust cloud beneath the helicopter and wonder why a secret weapon is crushing the helicopter?
If it was a predator, what other direction do they have to go? Because remaining motionless on the ground is literally being a sitting duck. The predator will have already left, either because it failed or because it has lunch in its talons, now the birds have to leave.

Those poor birds it's just sad they have to suffer like that the pain must be excruciating...

The video is so sad and the lady reporter is creepy smiling at the end, she must be one of those people that hunts poor birds.

Yea uh I wouldn’t say the situation is amazing neither after knowing that some birds were really hurt or didn’t get up.

@@TiffanyShae it blows my mind that people still think if you hunt you enjoy seeing animals in pain or die for no reason. Educate yourself. As someone who can’t afford to buy meat very often, shooting a deer or two gets me a lot of meals that I otherwise can’t afford to make

Someone said these were sterlings which fly close together. The ones in the back can’t see whats ahead so when the ones in front pulled up from a dive, the ones in the back didn’t have time to react and hit the ground.
Can’t confirm if these were sterlings or if this is the case.

The only thing that makes sense to me, scientifically, would be a response to changes in electrical frequencies being emitted in the air. 5G towers have started coming online in earnest around the world as of last month I believe. I would not be surprised in the least to find it or was a response to electromagnetic radiation. Just my thoughts.

@@SavageSpiders 5G is not causing birds to do that. Else we would’ve had the same issue with 4G, FM Radio, hell even just the electromagnetic radiation that naturally comes from the earth and stars
