Mine just turned 30, I’ve had him for 16 years and he absolutely hates taking a bath. I see all these birds going crazy for a bath but my Toby has never enjoyed it. I wish I knew what happened to him with water before I got him

I walked into the apartment I heard "here kitty kitty" "here kitty kitty" I said something like aww you have a cat (I like cats) my girlfriend said no I have a bird so I walked into the bedroom and this bird saw me and literally said "STEP UP, BRING IT ON" I lost it, I was laughing so hard!!
The conure at 1:12 did it for me. I had one for close to 25 yrs. Broke my heart and never go another one. Just couldn’t deal with the loss. My Cuca would go crazy at the sound of my car. She knew when I was home from work. When I got married she didn’t accept my wife at first. 😂. Took a while but she came around.
We have two cockatiels. Sometimes they'll start chirping and I'll think my wife must be home. I look in the driveway and she's not there. Inevitably, I'll see her car driving around the corner at half a block away. We live in the city as well, so not exactly quiet. Assume they can hear the car. They're pretty amazing.

But my youngest has taken a liking for animals more so than me. My only holdback is that we go on a lot of vacations and I could not trust places to take care of animals. To many horror stories and my family all live 2k miles away. But I may get something in the future. Birds are a lot of fun.

It's vastly different than a regular pet, because they're more like a kid with feathers, and can easily learn to get along with human children and other family. Plus, having a feather allergy is less common than a dog or cat dander allergy (saliva proteins), and more welcome to travel with/easier to clean up after (no one really cares if they're with you.
My friend had an African grey, craziest bird I ever heard. It had learned ALL the household noises. Get up I'm the morning, the bird would make coffee sounds, walk into the bathroom, the bird would do bathroom sounds. Dog barking when vehicle in the driveway..... Repeat all the music of TV shows and repeat the news (albeit several weeks old).😊
My moms best friend from high school has an African Grey. He is funny. Sneak up behind you on the back of the couch and whisper hello in your ear than sit on top of your head and sing the star spangled banner.
They are ALL amazing but the one singing the Addams Family theme tune, and the grey that asked "Are you talking to me?" then started cussing his owner were so funny! 😂
Until TH-cam I never knew how smart they are. Their sense of humor and fun are the biggest surprises. The colors are so lush. This is a fun video! Clever birds!
They also are high maintenance, needy, messy and need to eat lots of fresh veggies everyday not just seeds. Well worth it for some not all. We love our African Grey❣️

I lived with a woman for 11 years. I gave her what I had and we travelled the world and we played together. Then I learned she in last 8 years also played with many others when one of them apparently got mad at me that never knew of it all. I do not play with anyone anymore....I stay happily with myself and can look myself in the mirror every morning with pride. I never cheated and trusted her blindly...Maybe time to get a bird?

They can be out part of the time, not all of the time. They can’t be out unsupervised or they’re likely going to get hurt or get into something that could kill them. They’re happy because they have great owners that spend time with them, play with them, teach and interact with them in positive and interesting ways. They’re very smart. They’re also fed appropriately. Without seeing their cages, you can’t judge what their lives are like while in their cages. They probably have appropriate room, toys, and are kept clean.
Their birdness is being respected. Allowed to do what they need to do to be happy and fulfilled beings. My phi!osophy on dogs is give them everything they need before they know they need it. If they're happy and busy and loved they'll thrive. Same with cats but they must feel respected and secure for the comedian in them to really come out.
I'm glad that all you people love and take great care of your parrots, but in case you forgot, at one time, THESE WERE WILD ANIMALS! THAT COULD DO WHATEVER THEY WANTED ALL THE TIME!

My brother had smoked glass mirror tiles on a living room wall and TV rabbit ear antennas - you know the 70's 🙃. He'd tie shoelaces with knots to the antenna and the parakeet would hang on and bob the antenna up and down and whirl round and round while excitedly whoo whooing to his reflection in the mirrors. It was real stoner entertainment back then.

Birds like it when you preen their pin feathers they can't reach. Gently roll the feather between two fingers near the base. Birds will let you and are more comfortable with the little sheath preened off.

I've been there, but a four-year-old girl can't really push a man in his forties and a fourteen-year-old girl away from her Happy Meal. Funny though, once when my niece was two, she took food off her plate and gave it to me. She's better at sharing than me or the parrot.
