  • The welcome addition of two rear doors and additional luggage space has opened up Jimny ownership to a much wider audience. Has the additional length diminished the Suzuki's renowned off-road prowess? Juliet ventures across the boarder and off the beaten track to find out.

I just got back from a 1400 km trip. It felt fine. I was constantly reaching 120 kmph and maintaining that speed on highways. Today, I took 4 breaks in a 485 km trip on highways as well as narrow, single-lane roads in the hills that I finished in 9 hours with another passenger, a cat, and 5 days of luggage. Is this lacking in power? I didn't think so. This engine is meant to be revved high, and it maintains good speed.

This is the best Jimny review I could find around the Globe!
after watching reviews from West to East; It's not only in Cape Town, I used to see it everyday in Centurion and I still see them in Midrand, Personally I like the 3-door model, it's looks funky and cool, the car makes you smile inside, it's like that tiny dog that runs to every stranger waggling it's tail every time you enter someone's yard, you just wanna take it with you.

Love the Jimny. It's quite a great value proposition, overall. I just think they aught to have availed something like a 2.0 liter version, especially with this specific iteration. 🙂

So good to see Juliet here on Ignition, nice short but detailed review. The car is the right price with the right off-road capabilities but needed the 1.4T engine and 6 speed auto out the swift sport instead.

The Vitara with allgrip, also has the 1.4 turbo/6 speed auto, I think Suzuki should of offered this combo on the bigger Jimny.

It will take a long time before I am used to the weird look of a 5-door Jimny. The biggest problem is the massive price difference between a 5-door Jimny and a 3-door GLX which still makes the GLX an attractive alternative.

The car is good but because of too much hype before launch by you tubers maruti suzuki overpriced this vehicle. A car is nice but should not deserve a higher cost in comparison with Thar. Initially i wanted to buy this one waited long but after launch seeing the over swelled price I preferred to switch on to Mahindra Thar and bought a 4wd hard Top version of Thar with a lesser price than Jimny

Hi, I never really like the previous previous version of the Jimny I think it was called Samurai at one point old jeep, The new Jimny however looks alright I think and now with this five door, gives more practicality which is good, I think if you live in the wilderness of Africa or perhaps even the outback in Australia, the Jimny makes quite a lot of sense and same can be said if you live down in the rugged mountainside however I would like to know what the performance is like going up hill or mountainside driving. In short I don't think I would mind owning one. However I would need a good car also.

An Australian here - I agree with you. However, I think the small tank would need upgrading and I'm sure they are available or soon will be from those wonderful specialist shops that make snorkels, nice grills, lift kits etc.
While I don't live in the outback and instead in the subtropics close to the coast, I need to have confidence that I can have at least 450 plus kms before needing to fill her up.

The Jimny was originally made for the Japanese market, where narrow streets, difficult parking spaces and mountain roads and trails are abundant. I’ve spent a lot of time in Japan and see them mostly in the rural areas in farming communities or in inner city 4x4 clubs. There is a huge community for them over there with every mod you could think of. They are perfect as a hire vehicle for around the islands.

I really love the Jimny (as a toy), but it has been let down by the small 1,5L engine, a 1.8L (at least) is needed i`m afraid! At R480 000 I would buy a 2nd hand 2,4 Toyota Fortuner 4x4, more power, more space and even if you get it at 200 000km on the clock, it will probably still out last a Jimny and have far better off-road ability!
