  • This is the final video on fixing this rear axle. Will the gear noise be gone?

Hey bud, good video, saved me a headache a little. My 9.25 ate the spider gears out. 2007 dodge ram, not sure how it happened, but one day she was fine, the next the worst clunking jerking feel in the steering wheel as I pulled out of my neighborhood. whipped her right back home into the drive and started tearing her down.

I just used my clamshell puller on 9.25 and was surprised at how it pulled the pinion bearing but it did not work with the carrier bearings. Outer pinion bearing was in bad shape I just hope the gears are stillgood

You said 30FtLbs on the pinion. You meant 30InchLbs correct?

Looks a little deep on drive but you need to load it up with some drag to get a better pattern...

Well done, man, a very helpful video set. I have an older truck than yours, with a '98 Ram LS diff/Chrysler 9.25, it looks nearly identical. I was thinking about getting that Vevor clamshell set off amazon, it looks very similar to what you used and the price is right. Were you able to pull the carrier bearings off with that tool, as well? This is a tedious job on the floor, I found it annoying to adjust and torque the carrier bearing preload with a homemade Chrysler tool, recheck backlash, and repeat a few times until it was right. Interestingly, my gear imprint pattern is nearly identical to yours, as well, with a centered drive imprint and a coast imprint a little too far to the toe. With driveline noise, I'm headed toward replacing pinion bearings but leaving the gears alone. Any advice?

That bearing tool has served me well. So far I haven’t ruined a bearing with it and I’ve done a lot with it. Those adjustment sleeve things were a pain and the tool I bought for it didn’t really work out for me. I just used small screwdrivers to adjust them.

I had to use a bearing splitter with a puller for my friends 97 dodge but the clamshells workedwell with the pinion bearing

Remember when the pattern is riding onbthe toe heavy and on the heel. Vice versa thats a pinion depth problem and if both patterns are riding toe on drive and coast or both riding heel thats a backlash problem
