To everyone who enjoyed this video: thanks for being part of the anti-rage-bait community I’m attempting to find. The only wrong opinions are the ones that aren’t actually our own. It’s all about nuance here and making the most of things instead of the least. Would love to see you in some of my streams or videos later! Thanks for watching!
There ain't rage-bait when we speak the truth. Me and many others have been Sony fans...not fanboys/fangirls...for decades...but we don't like getting shafted by Sony or any company for that matter. So we will call them out for their BS just like in the case of the PS5 Pro! Anybody who supports them at that price for the benefits/flaws ratio that the PS5 Pro offers is just the kind of dumb..."yes sir, can I have more please?" type of consumer that Sony hopes them to be. I ain't bending over for that. I sold my PS5 several months ago in hopes of getting a PS5 Pro...but for that price without a Disc Drive included (for my Physical PS4 and PS5 disc collection)...is extremely insulting to ANY sane person...period!
@thescorpionsy9011 I have a fix for this. Google “great accountant in my area.” Go meet with them. Set up an LLC. Then go to TH-cam and search “how to build a console.” Then go to indeed and put out job offers for people who know how to build consoles and offer them equity. Then Google “how to make a pitch deck” and “angel investors in my area,” and get investments. Then secure a warehouse and start making your own consoles. Don’t even worry about sales and marketing because your console will be so perfect it’ll sell itself. Hire a logistics expert and start distributing your very own better console! If you don’t like something, no one’s forcing you to buy it, and if you think you can do better, have at it. Who’s stopping you! The world’s your oyster. Aside from that, all we can ever do is make the most of the circumstances around us. Thanks for watching!
@@madkurious Aside from your sarcasm that is just a waste of words and text and a waste of my time. The "Nobody is forcing you to buy it"...and "if you don't like it, don't buy it" lines are like you parroting Sony when they and the fanboys said don't buy "Concord" if you don't like it...and the end result is that they wasted $250 Million on it and shut it down in 2 weeks of launch...how embarrassing...like a pie to the face. Nobody can ever force me to buy something...not a PS5 Pro or anything I see as a rip-off. But keep on trying to rationalise how great of a deal the PS5 Pro's price really is for a digital only console release...enjoy that "$200" Concord Tax. Lol
People are not upset because the Additional disc drive costs 80 dollars. They are upset because 700 dollars (or 800 euros where I live) doesn't buy you the complete premium package. People are upset because they wanted to have the drive and the stand included in the 700 dollar deal.
People are upset about both. This video is mainly to dispel the nonsense conversation around disc drives, while also delving into that larger narrative, which is why I added pros and cons. Hope it helps people tune out the rage bait noise and think for themselves! It sounds like you are, so that’s all I really wanted. Thanks for watching!
@@madkurious of course. The price tag on the PS5 Pro is due to : 1. A complete lack of competition from Microsoft 2. Sony wanting to make an actual profit on this piece of hardware 3. The manufacturing costs of the PS5 Slim which haven't fallen significantly enough since 2020. Have a great day!
I paid 499 for Ps5 with discdrive and stand, the Pro costs me 950 Euros with the same drive and stand. If i get 400 for my PS5 i have to pay extra 550 Euros on top. Thats not sane for such a small upgrade to play the same games, no market speech changes that. Its a shitty price for a small upgrade with the same CPU. We are still getting crossgen PS4 games.
Comparing apples and oranges. So you compare a discount price to the original which is nonsense. You will get the pro later cheaper as well and you will get some offers which are even maybe better than current offers. Fact is the Pro has a price difference of 280$ and you getter 1TB extra storage which cost alone already 150$+, better GPU and WiFi. Not the best deal but no bad deal either
Region issue, the price difference is 280 bucks, if it is not worth it for you, don't buy it ,period The standard PS5 will get the same exact games so most of the people who are complaining like you are literally fighting with a ghost
It is better to sell off your ps5 and use the money to upgrade your PC Gpu or cpu. Sony is very stupid presenting this as an upgrade. This is a stunt to justify releasing a 23 tflop ps6 as a 'viable' next gen console. Sick fools!!
Well, luckily for you this gen still offers the ability to play physical games on each of the models offered. That’s exactly why I made this video. People made it seem like it had been taken away, and that’s false.
@@madkurious its the push from companies to go digital games like Lollipop Chainsaw Repop only Disc on import from japan or limited games Game Mania the Gamestop equivalent filled for bankruptcy bestbuy,.... many others no longer sell Discs disc release are being delibritely delayed and priced Higher the company that made games on disc has been let go and games on disc are niche and made more expencive to force players to go digital and you may not have known this the disc drive for the PS5 Slim or Pro is sold out and requires online registration to PS servers to enable its fuction to play Blu-Ray games yet PS1and PS2 discs are locked out because sony wants you to buy them again on PS+ Highest tier Price Subscribtion
I don't understand wanting to sell a game that you paid good money for. You'd get so much better use out of it having it around to play anytime you want. Also, I used to love collecting discs, until PS4 and Switch. You could never convince me that bothering to switch discs is better than having 60 plus games right on the system.
Sharing is caring, which is why I still care to buy discs Microsoft, on the other hand, has made it a total mission to even get their current-gen console with a disc drive (Xbox Series X) and to add salt on the wound? They began to close down their Physical Media division iirc I’m still pretty happy with my PS4 Slim and outside of Demon’s Souls (which came out ON LAUNCH DAY 2020), there’s quite literally no games worth buying the PS5 for…base versions, Slim, or Pro. If the PS5 Slim ever goes UNDER $300 and the Disc Drives aren’t scalped into extinction? I’d consider it.
Pro stands for profit in this case. You can come up with all the justifications and angles you want but thats just justifying wanting one - which is fine. The problem is not the price itself, its the value of the product. Too different things as you as an 'business expert' would obviously know. The difference between the 'old gen' and pro is too marginal to be worth the price point. Every comparison they have released has hurt them. Selling the disc drive and even the stand (wtf?!) separately is just the icing. To put it in perspective, the pro will be 800€ and over 900 Pounds in Europe and UK respectively. Thats just ridiculous.
If you think this video justified anything, I invite you to watch it again. At no point do I recommend someone purchase a PS5, a PS5 Slim, a PS5 Pro, an Xbox, a Switch, or a PC. Nor would it give me any benefit to do so. As a business expect, I know that the price and value is up to individual consumers, who are often manipulated by marketing, especially when judgmental rage baiters yell louder than everyone else about what value is. Value is what each of us decides it is. That’s why I laid out the facts without being angry like the majority of the internet. I like to analyze things and make decisions for myself. So I shared what I analyzed so others can make decisions for themselves too, without angry internet people yelling in their ears.
People buy 4090s at $1500 being a 23% increase over the $900 7900XTX. That $600 difference is justified. People seem fine with that but twice that uplift for $200, and it's the end of the world. No consistency.
@@jiggerypokery2962 It's not. PC Gamer's hardware choices are heavily romanticized on the internet. While there may be lunatics yelling about how great their $4000 systems are, they are just a very loud minority. Majority of us don't spend more than 300 on a GPU and don't upgrade for 7+ years. The largest reason most switch to pc is value and a lot of pc gamers don't see the value in the 40-Series Gpus either.
If you want to waste your time watching someone scrambling to defend sony finessing their customers out of 300$ for 20 minute's watch this video. Oh then they gaslight to belive that your saving money on the disc drive.
I never defended Sony. If anything, I actually called out their deceptive and experimental marketing practices. I just did it in a way that doesn’t feed the rage bait beast with emotionally-charged nonsense, so those looking for that are so clearly missing the point. I’d invite you to watch it again without the rage glasses on. All I want is for everyone to think for themselves. Thanks for watching!
@@emilcioran7444 Well said Emil...this is exactly what this video is...a waste of time...justifying how the PS5 Pro with a Disc isn't that big a of a deal or price. 🤦
I hope she didn't do all that corporate shilling for free. If she is going to make an idiot of herself, she should probably at least get paid by Sony...
The PS5 original model (CFI-1XXX series) is the only one to fully support physical games offline. The PS5 slim model and now the PS5 Pro will require an internet connection on startup to play physical games offline, similar to the Xbox One consoles and Xbox Series consoles (and the PS4 consoles before firmware 9.00 without the CMOS battery). From my outlook on the future of Sony in console gaming, the PS6 and later revisions will also require an internet connection on startup to play physical games offline. As someone who greatly prefers physical media over digital distribution, I'll settle for the PS5 original model and just be done with Sony after the ninth generation.
That is NOT TRUE! You can play offline with no internet at all on slim, te first boot of the disc drive needs internet to activate it on your consol, after That you can play with no internet for the next century 😂
Digital is more convenient on pc, a game like gta 5 has like 9 discs. Discs are more convenient on consoles as you can fit an entire game on a single blu ray disc. On top of that comparing a pc to a console in any way is unfair, theyre two different markets. I know we're heading to digital only sadly, but ps5 console generation began with a disc based model, its only logocal the mid gen premium edition console to have everything included, especially at that price. Theres no justifying a lack of disc drive. The minor enhancements ps5 pro has over the original is absolutely NOT worth $780. And the fact they cant even include that temu quality stand shows their greed.
Nothing is lacking a disc drive. Every single PS5 model can have a disc drive if you want it. Future consoles and where physical vs digital is going is a great topic, but doesn’t change my main point here, that no one has taken physical gaming ability away from current gen.
There actually is a big difference when it comes to the disc drives: the detachable disc drive that is used for both the Slim and Pro model requires an internet connection to be activated, something the original PS5 disc version does not have. By the calculation you presented, sure, customers pay less for going physical, but they in return might forever lose access to their physical library of games in the future should Sony decide to take that activation service offline. On the original PS5 disc version, you won't have that issue. That would also, at least for me personally, make the trade-in option very problematic (I own the original PS5 disc version).
That’s fair. I personally don’t fully understand the future fear where everyone imagines a dystopia of all games being taken from us, but it’s a fair point to discuss! I’ll put it on the list to research.

@@madkurious Storefronts don't stay up forever, niether does all the content for thier library, that shit is inpermanent and you will loose access to your accounts and libraries in time, because they will die so will the preservation of the games If you didn't download it you can't anymore once the platform is gone, even if you did chances are the Client eg. Steam, Origin, Epic, Xbox, PSN, etc. requires connection to phone home to validate once every so often for DRM purposes. Only physical containing the full game that can eg. (install) and run offline, DRM free releases from sites like GOG and Cracks eg. "Piracy" WILL preserve the games for future generations, the Industry does not care about preservation right now though witch is very worying. See I don't care if games come on a disc or in a hard drive/external/flash drive or a Flash cart or NVME/Nand Solid State storage, I just think games should be preserved, rather than pretend online stores and thier titles will stay up forever, look up how many games have been unlisted and delisted and removed from stores, games that were exclusive to eg. Stadia, all the content that I used to own on the older version of the Xbox Marketplace on Xbox 360 that even in Dowload history it just says "content unavailible" yet it was very much readily avialible, purchasable, dowloadable back in the day. I know I spent so much back in the day on the ever evolving 360 Xbox Live. Stuff now that is just gone, you can't dowload or purchase anymore. I expected it to stay there but nope. Digital is not the future it is only a point in time while the content is accessable. Anyone who thinks digital is perfectly fine is Naiive. Also it would be nice if we could go back with not needing to install everything, if we can sort out the microSDXC/disc speed/drive read speed, buffer, cache and ram allocation that everything can work fast and quick resume and not need to be installed, we could use the storage drive space for other things like dowloading, storing and playing back media, recording gameclips/gameplay. etc.
US pricing is fine, imho. This is a premium version of a gaming product. Console gaming had been far too low for far too long, and Sony is testing the waters (I think) on how this kind of pricing will go for PS6. My guess is this will sell out and Sony will conclude the pricing was fine. I predict they will price PS6 around $700, no digital version only. PS6 Pro will be 3-4 years later at $1000. Edit: This video is probably the best video I have seen about this topic. Hit almost every point I have made in other videos/forums etc.
Thank you so much for the high compliment!! Wonderful to meet another like-minded gamer! Those of us with nuance are slowly finding each other in the sea of rage bait.
@@madkurious it’s pretty cool! I appreciate the cool head in the video. Also, visual aids! The chart was great! I work with datawarehousing and business intelligence. People are just angry about the price of something they don't even have to buy..and it really pisses them off the people that played it say their is a clear difference between the pro and the base so they can't fall back on the "It's barely doing anything".
It's the precedent it sets for the future. If they announced this at $700 with no disc drive and everyone is either okay with it or reacts nonchalantly, what message do you think that sends to Sony? Quit with the corporate shielding, they arent your friends. If it were up to them they'll price PS6 at $1000. But we run the industry at the end of the day with our wallets. And until gamers and consumers wake up and realize that, we'll continue to be taken advantage of. Also, PC vs Console is a "clear" difference. Watch any comparison video between the two, you dont have to zoom in 300% to tell the difference, all it takes is one glance.
@@edwin99901 If it bothers someone that much they don't have to buy it.. Nobody is "shielding a company" they have a product I want I can afford it I'm going to buy it end of story, also that zoom in is over people that have actually played and say there's a clear difference in the base of the pro.
@@Jay_Walker92 you're saying "people are angry", "it pisses them off that theres a difference" but you fail to mention legitimate reasons that justify the outrage. Again, its the precedent it set.. and the audacity for it to be that price with no disc drive. The same way you say "if it bothers someone that much they dont have to buy it" I can say if the complaints bothers you so much you can just ignore them. Why be defensive towards a corporation with comments like these.
@@edwin99901 I do...my original comment was simply making a statement...If someone doesn't like it just don't buy it stick with the old PS5 and do you. If the PS6 is out of there budget sorry just get another system, not being defensive I'm literally saying if you don't like it don't buy it 😂.
I can play all my PC games going back to the stone ages and switch to my ROG ally on the go. Also widescreen support, mod support, customizing, mouse / keyboard are very important to me. I don't knock anyone for playing on consoles, PC just has way more of what I find important in a gaming system.
100% agree! This is a perfect response. They likely decided between this, a more expensive model, or making a lot less money. They decide on the experimental model that has the most monetary potential, since there’s a lot of upside, and the risk is all a learning opportunity before next gen. It’s clear the console audience wants out of the box based on all the negative feedback. It just seems like such an exaggerated rage when the physical option is still there and stand was already taken away for the last model without much outrage. Thanks for watching!
@@madkuriousactually the disk drive isn't out there😅 When this "Pro" version will launch, the price of a disk drive will be more than double. And another thing, the people aren't outraged because of the slim model comparison. They are outraged because of the 2020 model with disk. It's a big difference. When you try to explain these things, you might include a 800 euro price in my country without that stand and disk. You looked from a single point of view. The digital version. Try the price in the UK, Europe, Canada, and remember that our currencies have greater value than the U.S. dollar. So, right now 800 euros are equal to 891 U.S. dollars. If u add the disk drive and stand we must pay almost or 1000 dollars. That is FACT! Better luck next time with the marketing lessons 😉
Do not forget, Your subscription, the games that are around 70-80 basegame. If you want a deluxe version you pay around 90- 110. Euros. Is it really worth it? Nah man, i rather build a pc where i can play most games for less price. No stand, no disc drive, im just saying. You had good points but it is a scam and it always will be. For the people who want to buy this, congratulations you just enabled these companies to screw us over. Alsooooo have you seen the Playstation store????????? Nope, compare the apples to the rotten apples you mean! Thats our problem. Not because pc can or be better. Its playstation itself!
Thanks for watching! I personally think people have lost the true meaning of the word “scam.” People are equating scam with what they consider to be overpriced. A scam is a fraudulent act. Marketing itself for this and pretty much any large business these days could be considered to use scammy tactics, but that doesn’t always necessitate the product being a scam unless they lie about what value you get for your money. This is upfront about the price and what you get…so far. If people were to buy this and then it didn’t do what it claimed, then it would be a scam. Many will agree with you that it’s overpriced and doesn’t offer enough value for the money. I personally don’t see enough value right now, even as a full time gamer, because it won’t do much for the chat or my experience at this time. But when looking at the facts, it’s clearly priced as a luxury item that some will see value for. Those people aren’t being scammed just because it’s expensive.
Not a scam, if you ever played a game switch between 60/30 fps. Play at 60fps for like 10 minutes and then switch to 30fps and don't tell me doesn't feel off. Now if you start a game at 30fps your brain gets used to it but 60fps is just better. A console from the OS to the developers design the games to run best on it. PCs as she said can be gaming machines but the games have to be scaled to work on countless variations. Someone has this GPU, someone has this CPU, someone has this GPU\CPU combo, different clock speeds, manufactures. This is why Nintendo and 1st party Sony games are so amazing those developers have hardware specs one set and can optimize the game for that. On PC they can go well the 2070 GPU came out in 2019 so what ever and their runs like crap or not at all, but a gaming coming out on PS5 in 2025, 2026, 2027 you know will work for your hardware and if the PS5 Pro means these games will look better and run at 60FPS for the next 4 years vs a machine that came out in 2020 that is worth it.
Lol yeah that’s why I prefer the disc drive, I’ve never payed full price for disc version on PS5. Bought games around half price and have always sold them them back at the same price. You don’t even need a ps plus subscription if you play free to play online games like war zone and fortnite. I don’t want a PC since I’m on my computer all day for work so that’s the last thing I want to do. Give me a pro version so I can just game with higher visuals at 60 on my tv. Nothing more, nothing less.
110 for a Game you own vs Half priced game you dont own Yeah not building a pc cuz denuvo drm etc I just use pc for the epic games free games(rtx 4090) and content creation but buying games on pc is stupid retarded And the worst thing is that PC users let themselves be fucked, they don't complain and yet they feel superior to console users. Talking about the ps5 pro being a scam and gaming on pc is hypocritical
Maybe there’s something I’m missing, but do you really need a vertical stand? Do games run smoother on it side or does the system last longer…or is it just aesthetically pleasing?
From what I’ve read, there is no significant difference. It’s definitely not needed. I honestly have my PS5 on a separate stand that has an extra cooling fan on the outside (not sure how much it helps, but figure it can’t hurt, charges VR controllers and holds PSVR and cables-all for less than the stand they’re now selling, especially since I don’t have room on my desk for that or the PC-everything has special stands off the ground. None of that is needed, though. People are mainly being dramatic because they want to complain from what I can tell.
Me? My discussion is nuanced and necessarily isn’t leaning one way or the other. Simply laying out the facts. How do I have people getting upset with me from both sides😂 This is a great purchase for some, too expensive for others. This video is to explain the options from a business standpoint. I love PlayStation, though I don’t currently see value for money for me on this. But I won’t count it out entirely if I have a little more disposable income later on.
@@madkurious no not you. Other people can hate me if they want for buying it. I want the best experience and don’t feel like I’m in a position to get pc right now so this is the best I can get. Thanks for the facts and educational video! Can’t wait for this hopefully I can have it at least by Christmas time.
@madkurious Hy!Don't listen to ANYONE attacking you or insinuating something against you because you brought up just facts and how market in general works!I didn't learn this in school because i didn't study marketing or economics in general but I know how shady things are and how market works and smart people in general knows that!Thats sadly the way it is there is no other option
For $1900 AUD ($1293.36 USD) I got a PC with a 7800 XT GPU, 7500f CPU, 32GB of RAM, and a 750 watt power supply to give me headroom for later upgrades - and all the latest games are running between 90-110 fps. I could have got this even cheaper if I didn't upgrade the power supply. For a little bit more than a PS5 Pro, I got a hell of a lot more performance. According to this chick tho, games barely even run if you don't spend $3000 on your PC!!
Are you serious?? You bought a 10 year old, low-mid range CPU and it cost you almost as much as TWO PS5 Pro's, and you think that is a slam dunk? lol Aand you didn't list the size and performance of your SSD, PLUS it definitely seems like you didn't add the cost of a controller to that almost 2 grand price. Personally, I wouldn't flaunt
The system is completely optional. The vast majority of gamers will not get this and Sony already knew this going in. You're better off taking your message to all of the gamers who buy Madden/Call of Duty every year. You know, the ones that buy VC in NBA 2K, Shark Cards in GTA Online and Vbucks on Fortnite. That has a far worse impact on the gaming than buying an optional mid-gen refresh console..
I have gamed on PC for 7 yrs exclusively, and rarely have issues with modern games, just like consoles. PCs are consistent AF if all you do is game on it especially, since theres no bloat.
It should be 649 for the digital and 699 with the graph you've shown. Sony is nickling and diming their core audience by not including a version with the disk drive while stating this will boost ps4 and ps5 games which many if not most have physical games. This is a decision they should have made with the ps6 if they want to be aggressive with the digital console. I do appreciate you taking the risk in which many youtubers would not on this subject.
The only problem I have with the PS5 pro is the lack of games that take full advantage of the standard PS5 . The majority of the games shown on the launch video were actually PS4 games . On the hardware side for the console yes I agree with you. The lack of viable competition in the console market, is also permitting the high price point for the PS5 pro.
100% agree with all of this, Paul! Really hoping the 2020 bottleneck these last couple of years comes to an end and we get some awesome games in this gen.
Sony, you ain't Apple. If you don't want to subsidize console prices, just say so. You make money with Playstation plus and games fees, not hardware...
Yeah I never did get that argument either most PC do not have games on physical media it's all digital And plus the computer I have now does not have a disk drive
If you have physical discs of PS4 and PS5 games then you'll need the disc drive for the pro which costs $80 more. The disc drive addon has been sold out(probably by scalpers) so good luck finding one at $80.
Exactly! You get it. There’s plenty to talk about in advantages and disadvantages for any side of it, but I don’t get why people simply make things up (presumably for attention)
Amazing, one of a kind explanation. I got PS5 back in 2021 with disc dr (digital wasn't available), owning about 40 games since. I have 0 disks. I was able to pre order PS5 Pro and absolutely don't care about the stand or a disk drive.
Great video and great conversation. Because of my search algorithm, your video was suggested to me. I have a launch era disc PS5 which is still running strong. I keep it clean of dust and have upgraded it to the 2TB NVMe. I don't use the mount that came with it, I use a wall mount which lets the PS5 stand up close to the wall mounted near my TV for a beautiful display. I am hoping the mount will work for the PS5 pro. The disc drive has been used for one game, Gran Turismo 7 which I bought for $7.99 at GameStop during a sale so I could try it on my PSVR2, leading me to get a wheel with pedals but that is off topic. The disc version of the PS5 was so I could play my old PS4 games but most of those, I have the digital version now because of PSN sales or they were included in the PlayStation Plus package. On to the PS5 Pro and why I am getting it. My PS5 is 4 years old and I am a heavy PSVR2, Looter Shooter and CoD player which means my system is on for long periods of time almost everyday. I had upgraded to the PS4 Pro at the time and welcomed the upgrade. My daughter uses my old PS4 Pro which I swapped to a SSD and is also running strong. Lately she has said she wants to start playing some PS5 games so, this kills two birds with one stone. She gets a PS5 with a 2 Tb NVMe and I get my upgrade that will enhance my PSVR2 and upgrade the games I am playing. The upgrades in the PS5 Pro for me are the 2Tb storage, the improved video card and upgraded architecture. This time I will put in the 4Tb NVMe. I also have my $2800 gaming PC which I use primarily for Video and Photo editing and not so much for Gaming except for the PSVR2 on PC. Again, great video.
I’m so glad you enjoyed the video! You sound a lot like me with your system preferences. I love having options and optimizing to the experience rather than seeing anything as purely “better.” I hope you enjoy the pro! If I were to get one before the 6, it would be for similar reasons.
Ps5 pro is definitely priced beyond expections for a console that does not include a disk drive and stand. The worst thing is that in some countries a disk drive is essential as the internet speed is not the same. In my country it can take over 6 hours to download a 100gb game with 5g network.
This math is great but don't apply to Europe market. PS5 standard w/disc drive and stand included was 550€, take the 30€ of the stand and the 120€ of the disc drive is 400€. PS5 Pro is 800€ in EU, so you take the 400€ + 1TB ssd (+/-100€) + GPU upgrade (+/-100€) you get 600€ +/-, this without the stand and the disc drive.... So why it cost 800€? If we have to buy the stand for 30€ and the disc drive for 120€ to have the same machine with the upgrade? The prices in EUA maybe are OK but for EU are not....
Agree! Many have brought this up. I didn’t delve into anything with the other currencies-I mainly wanted to focus on the disk drive and comparison between models here, but this is definitely a worthwhile discussion. I may need to go down the rabbit hole on this too.
I think the point you are glossing over with people saying "just build a PC" is that sony and xbox clearly want to move gamers to an all digital future. Sony has already stated ps5 is in the back half of its life cycle and they're already looking towards ps6. I wouldn't be shocked if ps6 is digital only. The point is if video games will be all digital in the near future regardless of being on console or pc, PC is the much cheaper option over the course of years buying games and not having to pay additional subscription plans to play online. Games that will stay in your libraries and generally always be forward compatible. Sony is putting out a PC pricetag level console for an zen 2 cpu and a mostly rdna 2 gpu with a couple rdna 4 features. You can legitimately almost build a PC equivalent for $800. For $1000 you can build a pc that slaps the ps5 pro around with high fps 1440p gaming.
This comment is exactly why I devoted a section to the differences between consoles and PCs. A console is simply a PC built specifically for gaming, with built in limitations to streamline and optimize the experience. Neither is better. They have different advantages and disadvantages.
@@madkurious To say "neither is better" is VERY disingenuous and straight up a lie. The PC is indisputably better than a console, and I know for a fact that you believe that too. You can literally turn your PC into a console by downloading Steam (the main gaming platform for pretty much all PC users), plug in your controller, and click on "Big Picture Mode". You can even make it so that Steam boots up when your PC starts, and it automatically enters "Big Picture Mode" (which is the console view basically). Boom! You now have a console that's much faster, with much better graphics, and no FPS limit. Just start your PC, lay on your sofa and play... No need to use your mouse and keyboard at all.
Claim: "sony wants to move gamers to all digital" Evidence: "they're going to make a PS6" (naturally) "I wouldn't be shocked if PS6 is digital only" (speculation)
@madkurious I'm not saying consoles aren't good. They are very convenient. That said platforms like steam are getting things closer and closer to that console level experience on PC. The point of consoles has generally been that you get a streamlined experience at a relatively budget price because a big console producer uses their system as a loss leader and the games/subscriptions are where they really make the money. Between sony raising their prices in every conceivable way as the generation has gone on, from the price of the digital models, to the 70 dollar games, to even raising the controller prices, it really starts to blur the line as to whether or not Playstation as a platform is a good value proposition anymore. The underlying issues here are clearly management related as well. Jim Ryan went on this whole live service rampage that has completely crumbled and now sony is trying to nickle and dime everything it possibly can to recoup its losses. Unfortunately since xbox has been sucking so hard and Nintendo is off on its own, sony can kind of get away with it for now. But it is pissing everyone off as they burn through all that good will they accumulated during the ps4 era. Anyway, with platforms like steam deck making PC more approachable and valve eventually releasing steam OS for us in other PCs, I think sonys move to a much more expensive all digital future will only push more console gamers to give PC a try. I mean heck, I'll give you a personal example. I was able to get an AMD laptop on sale this summer for $680. It has a 7735hs a zen 3+ cpu 8 cores 16 threads that boosts up to 4.8 ghz and an rdna 3 gpu the 7700s. This laptop will not beat ps5 pro for 4k performance but it wipes the floor with it at 1080p to 1440p. I'll admit that was a big sale, but sales like that do happen a decent amount with gaming laptops. (Edit: i just checked, that laptop is on sale again right now for $750, normally it's $1100. You can literally go buy a laptop right now that spanks the ps5 and ps5 pro at 1080p to 1440p for $750 right now XD I've rambled enough I think. I hope sony stops being so arrogant and taking advantage of its fans. It's the ps3 days all over again.
Oh? The details on one of the articles? Feel free to correct anything like that you see! I tried to find multiple sources that match, but if multiple articles all had the same incorrect source to start, we could all be off.
I appreciate your video. Thankyou! I think the main problem here is simply inflation. People are struggling and as much as they would love a pro they just cant afford it. So they get bitter and resentfull.... they complain about no disc drive even though most havnt used a discs in years.... they complain about the stand even though most people lay their consoles down so they fit in their tv stand. I appreciate you taking the unpopular opinion! All I wanted from the pro is to be able to play games at 60fps with the graphical fidelity of the 30fps modes. Digital foundry has done a deep dive on this and the pro seems to be doing just that. I couldnt be happier with my pre order. Im a middle class man supporting my partner and 5 kids. Gaming on the weekends helps me to recharge. If i can play my favourite ps5 games in 60fps with graphics similar to the 30fps 4k modes then Im a happy man!!
I understood the difference, but I need the disk, so I'll buy the disk drive for the pro. I have been interested in buying a gaming pc, but they're way more expensive, plus to have a great one more than three times the price of a ps5 pro.
So many people acting like a console is a necessity, when it’s a luxury. You’re not entitled to have a console be affordable, and if you don’t think it’s worth $200 more then move on, and stop crying.
Its not 100 for the ssd you have to buy a 2tb there is not a free slot you have to replace the original drive. The cpu frequency stats and memory bandwith figures are also wrong.
It's not just the Disc Drive. It's also the Stand. For a Console that was made to stand up, it's actually a spit in the face if you need to buy that extra. And in comparison about the Prices with the other Versions, this should be incl. since the Base PS5 has the Stand incl.
@@MarcusWarcus40 to be honest, i would it also not stand up, but the marketing of this Console say something different. It's like the Wii, it always was shown to stay, but the difference here was, there was always a Stand incl. + it was not that big and looked like a "tower" that can fall to the side. At the end It's subjective if staying or lay down, but this's doesn't help if we have to pay the same high price. And for 30$ more, i would buy a game.
@@UndeadCollector meh. I never wanted to stand it up just because it looks so prone to falling and I have a cat. I don’t think Sony not including it is even a cost cutting measure because it’s such a cheap part. I think they probably did market research and found almost nobody used it enough to justify continuing to include it. Excited for ps5 pro to hurry up and come out so everyone can complain about something else
I’m gonna be completely honest. I’ve ordered a disk drive and stand. Came last week. When pre orders open this Thursday. I’m buying one. For us, it’s that simple. We want one. We’re getting it. Lol.
Think about the RTX 5090 that will cost circa $1700, so a $870 PS5 PRO with 2 TB of storage is really nothing, especially on a 12 month interest payment fee of $78.50 per month.
@@madkurious Yeah, I can’t see myself playing on anything lower than an RTX 4070 Super… if I were to build my PC today. I already have an RTX 3090, but it’s not impressive if you run games at 4K with path tracing…
I still don't get what is the marketing tactic here? Getting ppl angry is the tactic? Everything else I agree with. The marketing tactic part is what I don't get. Why would they want to trick us into thinking they are giving us a bad deal?
All publicity is good publicity. Also, if people are looking at it logically, they already enjoy upgrading things through PC or even adding more storage to their consoles. This is just a version of that. They probably shouldn’t have tested this at the same time as a drastic price increase, but this was probably the only way they were able to sell it at this price instead of a higher one, and it likely serves enough of the market that logically everyone wins when it comes to the disk drive and stand. It’s also not necessarily about getting the Pro perfect-this will always be a sample of the full audience, and the one most enamored with Sony. Thus, they can take the data they get from this for PS6 packaging planning.
This does not justify over €900 for a complete console. As a consumer, I don't care about any of that. I care about the price that I have to pay to upgrade and keep the same configuration (disc drive and stand).
They only look at the number without thinking about the actual worth. A $300 PS1 bought in 1995 would be over $600 today, when adjusted to inflation. A $600 PS3 in 2006 would be over $900 in todays money. $700 is nothing by comparison.
Yep. I thought about diving into that in this, but I know it’s already been talked about quite a bit and people who don’t want to take the time to learn about inflation just get more upset hearing this every time.
Hella good video. I thought this was some huge channel from the quality and content that i stumbled on and didnt know about. Was surprised at the subscriber count. Hopefully when this channel blows up i can be one of those hipsters that say "i was here when she only had x subcribers"
Thank you so much! These kind of comments give me life. I’ve recently been working to get more videos out more quickly, and have been multistreaming many of my Twitch livestreams here too! I’m currently playing Ghost of Tsushima (for when we thought AC Shadows would be coming soon), and have a new video coming out on my experience playing The Last of Us series nonstop, tomorrow. I just now finished that edit. Really excited to hopefully make some real progress here before the end of the year, so this should be a pretty fun time to have found the channel!
Damn such an intelligent, informed and balanced presentation of the facts of not only the economics inherent in the gaming space, but also a more expansive view of the marketing and sales practices involved. With respect to the idea of modular, wouldn't it be cool if they borrowed an aspect of the PC space and allowed you at some point to upgrade just the GPU in some form (swapping it out with a pro-like expansion kit)? Although they would make less money by not releasing an upgraded console in which they could swap this out in the production line using the same basic core used with each generation. Also they probably would have had less blow black if they could have offered a $50 expansion disk drive (like the price differential in the slim) but then of course with scalpers now gobbling up disc drives in order to resell at double the price-there are those considerations as well. Love your noting the disconnect of people decrying the lack of a disk drive then extoling the virtues of PCs which then of course can't provide an option for any physical games anyways, 😂 So thank you for this very illuminating and savvy take on things. More please! ❤
Thank you for all the kind words!! I’m right there with you in being excited for experimentation. I have many videos in the works for this “Behind the Games” series, along with game-specific analyses for many of my favorites and recently played. Good to virtually meet a like-minded gamer!
First time viewer. Thanks for posting this. Good to hear the marketing perspective and comparison break down. Still rich for me but it def doesnt seem after watching this that its the hard fuck over so many are making it out to be.
I’m glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching. I’m right there with you-I’ll likely be keeping my OG PS5 until the PS6, but the overdramatics throughout the gaming industry inspired me to create something to find others who are tired of rage bait and want to share our love of games.
Thank you for your thoughtful analysis. I’ve subscribed in hopes that you’ll do more videos like this, nobody else is breaking down the gaming space is like this. Please, please do this more. You’ve got a massive niche in the market and you could explode from content like this
I would love to! This was a topic test and seems to be getting good reception, so I’m already thinking of more. If you have topics you’d like me to cover, feel free to recommend!
Thanks for putting stats up on all 3 devices 👍🏾I’m not sure which console to get Sony has a deal on the uk store for the digital with 2 controllers for £440 or buy a PS5 pro I like the idea of more memory but after spending £700 will have to spend another £60 plus for another controller
Definitely a lot of options there! The slim has the slightly increased memory for the same price. But you said you’re going digital right, so then OG might still be the better deal. I actually have an external on my OG PS5. I don’t recommend playing games off it, but it’s easy to add an external or internal, and if that’s what you’re most looking for, could be a better option than the Pro if you’re not looking to spend that much.
Interesting and thoughtful... Comments section was worth the read for your responses too. Ironically, after owning the OG disk PS5, i purchased the Pro last night. I also purchased the disk drive because the PS5 is my fav home theatre player for my ultra hd collection, i.e. Dune, Spiderverse. Appreciate you taking the time making this. Still helluva sticker shock, But I seen enough digital foundry videos to be comfortable with my purchase and watching this video I suppose is the icing on the cake😅 You have one more new subscriber. 👌🏾
Thanks so much!! I’m trying to get used to having this many comments and haven’t replied to as many of the recent ones, but I’m glad those could offer some entertainment value as well. I enjoy giving the energy I’m given right back, so thank you for the kind words, and I hope the games and platforms you choose are all awesome! Enjoy the Pro!
My original plan was to buy the Pro but ended building my PC. I think the price is right the 2Tb about 120 and GPU upgrade is worth the price since i recently build my own PC>
Thank you for explaining it from a business standpoint. It cleared up the confusion I had about it. I still think it's outrageous that Sony would sell it for $700. However, now I see WHY they're even attempting it.
I’m so glad!! That’s exactly what I hoped to provide with this. It’s definitely a huge price jump, but following the money means trying to understand why. Reasons, but not necessarily justification.
It's like buying an iPhone 16 you don't just buy the phone alone you have to buy the accessories cuz the iPhone doesn't come with the charger or earbuds those are not essential those are mandatory for me I love physical games If I get the PS5 pro I have no choice but to buy the disk drive I got to get another controller cuz those PS5 controllers suffer through drift.
On it, Joe!! I love a bunch of really fun concepts I’m working on for this “behind the games” series. It’s time to take down attention economy nonsense with some reality.
Till recently Physical Games & Offline modes were considered one of the best reasons to opt for consoles and yes gamers are moving in digital direction but many also have big Physical libraries so completele digital shift with modular components without subsidized prices brings console more in line with PC's without PC benefits thus Pro Vs PC debate is happening.
well, $100 for the storage cost is *very* fair, so just $100 for the massive GPU upgrade plus PSSR etc, *and* you get wifi7 for faster DL which is nice for 250GB COD etc. Seems to me that it couldn't possibly be interpreted as a "bad" deal.
Great video! I haven't thought about the marketing view on this topic. But if we think of all the factors that contribute to this price hike (inflation, more storage, better gpu, new technology with PSSR) and we remember that consoles have originally been sold at a loss to be able to sell more games this price actually makes sense. As a base PS5 owner and casual gamer I won't be buying the Pro now but I also don't understand all the artificial rage over the pricing. And I'm in Europe where the PS5 Pro setup with disc drive and stand is sold officially for about $1033 (950€) which is very expensive compared to the base PS5 I got for 620€ ($675) with a game included. Tech is generally more expensive in Europe compared to the USA. It's the same with PCs so it wouldn't help to switch to PC gaming. And my guess would be that Sony is testing the waters if they can sell their consoles without selling under cost in the future.
Yo the way you broke everything down made a lot of sense and I’m definitely trading in my regular ps5 and upgrading to the ps5 pro, thanks for making this video.
I will do the same once it comes out and reviews show the differences and there is a game I really want that really runs and looks better. Everyone is counting pixels on a 9 minute TH-cam presentation that Sony did, lets wait till the hardware comes out and people get hands on with it. Also don't think you need to preorder this, it's not going to sell out.
I think Sony over estimated the attachment rate (games sold per console) when they came up with the $399 model. A lot of free to play games are available for the PS5, and thus those people never buy games to help Sony recoup some of the cost. In China, the PS5 digital is known as "Gatcha sation 5" as they just buy the cheaper model and play gatcha games like Genshin Impact (or other f2p games like Fortnite). Sony's reduction of cost along with the $50 price bump is what allowed them to not sell the PS5 at a loss. The $50 disc drive in your example of 2023 is the same as the $80 in 2024. So while you have a point that it's $20 cheaper then the original, it's still $30 more "apples to apples"?
@@madkurious I mispelt GachaStation 5 in case you decide to look into it. Must have been a freudian slip or something. You will still have trouble finding english posts, but there will at least be some hits. I still think Sony could have done better to prevent the $699 backlash (unless you were implying Sony knew and did it on purpose anyway).
Pc people making fun pf the disc drive is missing but little do they know that most single ps5 games can be played offline, biggest example is the ff7 rebirth which came out 2nd month of this yr
Exactly! There are pros and cons to everything. No one has to be “right,” we just have to understand what we want and which product fits it best. People will make things up just to support “pc master race” when they could just brag about having the best possible fidelity (if they spend enough lol)
Thanks so much, Julio! I’m very glad you enjoyed it. I’m already working on a few more similar analysis videos on your gaming topics since this seemed to resonate!
Subscribed! Really appreciate this marketing analysis and I think I better understand what Sony is doing. Even with trading in my PS5, the increase in graphics isn't worth it for me, pretty happy with the PS5 (with disk drive) as is (I did get the PS4 Pro, got that around the time I think I got my first UHD TV, so the upgrade to the graphics was obvious). I will wait for the PS6.
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it and that I could provide some good information for you. I’m with you, I likely will wait until the PS6, myself (even if half the commenters have convinced themselves I must already have one and want everyone else to get one with me😂). Appreciate the kind words!
Digital is giving your money away for free ! No physical no buy I'm no sucker! Everything you buy should have a value and people need to learn that !! Reason why I'm a millionaire and most people have close to nothing in their accounts ! Pro without the disk drive is absolutely overpriced .
I mean like 99.9 percent of games that release in disc require installation/update on day one to run so the disc is useless with out the digital infrastructure to support it. Hate to say it, but it's true.
PS4 release price is USD 399, 3 year later PS4 Pro release price is USD 399. PS5 release price is USD 499, 4 year later PS5 Pro release price is USD 699 (without disc) Seem like people paying 200 Concord tax to cover Sony failure game
This is true except for those who want physical games for game preservation. The modular disc drives require online registration to be operable. The original PS5 with a built in doesn’t require it. PC doesn’t need physical because it isn’t a closed ecosystem where you can only get your games from one source. The modular slim never entered into many people’s calculus because they’d prefer the physical with the disc drive unable to work without phoning home to a server that isn’t guaranteed to be there.
Realitywise just look back at each every last past gaming console "Pro's" versus their originals to know all what to expect generally which is mostly *Cosmetics* that they should have done 1st place, no?
Lets talk about CRT's and Nintendo, bust out the popcorn, jolt and pop-rocks and just play with ya friends... local... cause WiFi don't need to EXIST. You know you can do EVERYTHING you do now, without your PC and wifi. Paper and pen work just fine. No need to overcomplicate things. Walk to the post office to "send mail". Keep it simple. I promise you, life is better analog. CMON. CRTmasterRace!
I connected my OG PS5 to my Sharp tv that was built in 1998 via hdmi to rca converter. I use to have my PS4 PRO hooked up this way and it was very easy to use. Frankly not having RCA cables as an option and forcing hdmi is just change for the sake of change. I have had my PS5 connected to hdmi tv and the difference between it and RCA tv is negligible. Funny thing is my PS5 actually user interface is better on my RCA tv then the PS4 PRO was. Almost like someone designed the PS5 interface with someone like me in mind. Because of the way i have things setup. My PS5 is connected to my VCR that is connected to my tv. I can record movies,tv shows and music. I record music for free off TH-cam and record it to cassette to listen to while driving in my car. I create playlists then record those to VHS and watch that offline at a later time. TH-cam has unskippable ads i can just fast forward. I have a Landline no cell phone. TH-cam is the only social media website i use. I have a gmail account and a PlayStation account. Other than that i operate with 1990's technology.
@@MATT-2033 sweeeet! I remember the looks I'd get when I went to a local e-shop and asked for a "HDMI to VGA/RGB" adapter. HAHAHAHA. I get it! I love and still have a 1080i CRT and rock it (in the garage) and just love the simplicity and response times. Keep it up!
Cool! I attempted to undo the rage bait emotional nonsense with facts for both you and others who don’t think it’s worth it, and for those who think it is. Glad to see it helped, and thanks for watching!
I got the disk drive the day the preorders got announced and got my PS5 Pro preordered on the 26th, I could care less what they say :) That AMD long-term plan with in-house A.I. Upscaling is what sold me on this day 1
What I see in all this commotion is gamers are passionate people. Not necessarily smart, or level headed, but surely is passionate. Come on, all the hate for a luxury item that's not necessarily targeted at them market, just a mid gen refresh not new gen, still have the options to buy cheaper ps5 slim, and people are losing their mind and shit. Gosh how pathetic can people be bashing something so trivial. Read somewhere that Sony hoped to only reach 10% of their user base with this ps5 pro, so if you can't or you think it's not a good value then it's not for you. If you can't get a lexus you can always get a toyota. Great video btw! Agreed on all your points. 👍
Thank you for the kind words! You’ve nailed it-gamers are a passionate bunch. I’m not sure where the expansive emotions come from, but I feel like it could be used for more good if everyone wasn’t so angry.
True! It’s all about knowing which advantages and disadvantages apply to us, right? GameFly keeps popping up on my radar recently. I’d long forgotten about it!
Great video, and you are 100% right, trends are moving towards digital, people love steam which if they closed tomorrow what would happen to your games, but they will flip out about physical media and a disc drive on as console.
@@madkuriousITS Just a bad price for a small upgrade. its almost double PS 5 launch price. You get lots of games for that money. If i sell my PS5 for 400 bucks i have to still put 500+ Euros on top of it. more than i paid for PS 5. Sony can f off. I bought the PS4 Pro cause its price was sane and die fall fast.
@@madkuriousI have a ton of physical games from ps4 that I like to use on ps5 and my gifts from friends and family have been discs, oh no imagine the idea of people having different things of value. I get the digital future, most of my games are digital but it’s not a fake outrage
Actually the original the disc drive isnt hundred dollas just for the drive its basically 80 and 25 with the stand that comes no question if u bought a slim u can jus upgrade wit the removable drive but the choice should have been there i think black myth wukong bein only digital supposedly temporarily is what made them consider not including the drive because it sold so well anyway in a short time
Nope. It’s $100 vs $80. Both the OG physical and digital have a stand, so the $100 difference is only the disc drive. And this would’ve all been decided long before Black Myth Wukong. Thanks for watching!!
I'm gonna sell my OG PS5 to a friend and buy the Pro version for the same price i bought the OG 4years ago. So not a big cost for a 4years upgrade. And the stand i did buy at AliExpress for 9$ with adapter for OG version, and this stand is the same as the original one. The big price hit is for the New people thst don't have a consol yet.
You are forgetting a few very very crucial points. PC games, even though digital, can often be purchased DRM free (GOG for example). and you are not relyant on a single party that decides if you can play your game. If sony decides to close it's digital store for PS4 or 5 in 10 years or whatever, you have nothing. If I have a PC, I can still play the game I bought. Even my copy of UT99 still works, that's a 25 year old game. I have a digital version in addition to the disk, but it still works. So digital on the PS5 is not the same as digital on PC. Besides that, here in Europe, the ps5 pro will cost 799 euros and disk drive is 120, vs 499 euros (nowadays 549) for the ps5 disk edition. i bought my mine at 449, a ps5 pro with disk drive will cost me 920 euros, that's more than double the price I paid for my ps5, this is not a reasonable price increase and the disk drive is more expensive than the original price difference between the normal and digital versions. So your theory only works for the US market. Regardless of the disk drive, a more than 50% price increase for 1tb of storage and a slightly faster GPU (it's apparently not even 40% faster in the real world) is just not worth it. Also the PS5 had 8K gaming written on the box, but they silently removed that a while ago.... I wonder why.....
Whether or not this is all true, how is it relevant to conversation at hand? What control do we really have over any of that? All we can do is react to the decisions in front of us. So one can decide they like the console and they buy it. They can decide they’re angry at the direction consoles are going and not buy it. But will it stop what companies are doing anyway? Maybe. Voting with wallets can work. Which is why I laid out the facts for either side. But I’ve personally gotten exhausted of trying to control large entities with small actions. I’d much prefer to decide whether things are worth it for me personally without getting upset about my lack of control. If I really want control over a product, I can create it myself. Thus, if people are so angry at companies that they don’t want to buy from them, but they want a product, who’s stopping them from getting investors and doing it themselves if it’s that in demand?
@@madkurious We have more control over corporations than you might think. Like you said, vote with your wallet. And the outrage within the community over the ps5 pro pricing will not go unnoticed. Sony will not drop the price before launch, because that would signal defeat. But they might lower the price a few months after launch if the initial sales do not live up to their expectations. Sony already messed up with Concord, they can't afford another flop in the same year, their stock will suffer if that happens. Their stock has been going up and down over the last few years, not making any money for their investors. It's easy to say, well build your own then. That's impossible. Game consoles are a dying market and you will not be able to compete with MS, sony and Nintendo. There might be some space for "indy" consoles when the big companies switched to a cloud gaming platform where they don't need to offer physical consoles, just an app on a smart tv is enough. Microsoft will be the first of the big 3 to switch, their cloud gaming platform is already fairly mature and good enough to do away with the console all together somewhere in the next 10 years. Sony will follow and i expect nintendo to be the last to do so. Eventually, dedicated hardware at home for gaming other than peripherals will be a thing of the past, and only be relevant to a select few that want to relive the golden years of gaming. That might be an oportunity to "do it yourself", but still not as a competitor to the corporate giants. Unless you find an investor that thinks burning a few billion dollars for a 1% chance of ROI is a smart business decision. Anyway, I will vote with my wallet and not buy a ps5 pro, I hope many people will do the same, it's the only way to show who's boss.
The original digital ps5 is a complete non-starter for so many people and people aren't mad that they "took away" the disc drive they're mad that a Pro console doesn't offer the complete feature set that the previous Pro console had and that a lower end base ps5 has which is a disc drive at a $700 price point.
If you only have $40 in your pocket and you are choosing between a $30 plastic stand or the latest $40 hero shooter from sony...the stand is actually a pretty good value.
Should of just made the ps5 pro with the disc drive by default instead of complicating it and giving the consumer extra trouble, buying a separate hard drive and having to install yourself for £800.
Just stumbled on ya . glad i did 😁 . i share and agree with your perspective as well. 100 difference vs the 80 on the disc drive. And the convienice of console vs pc. Amd thier different purposes. Ill be using my 20% off. I received from sony in hopes of getting the 30th anniversary bundle . for my collection. Also i am enamoured by your MAD presemce.,intelligence, and of course beauty.
Exactly. Everyone has different ideas of value for money. Let’s say someone is gaming 6 hours a week. That’s over 300 hours a year. That’s $2.2 per hour of entertainment (plus the game cost) for the Pro. This is definitely more than the $1.6 per hour for the OG PS5, but both seem reasonable. If someone is a heavy gamer, they’re likely putting in far more hours than that, and then the cost is cents per hour to them. People see a big number and automatically think “oh this can’t be worth it,” but they’ll go out and buy drinks that cost them $20-50 for a few hours and call that worth it even though it’s far, far more expensive per hour of fun. People have to stop lying to themselves.
Lol
nothing wrong with voting with your purchase power. But this is a pre order day one for me. Can't wait! Good to have the option though?
how much did @SONY #SONY pay you to make this vid?!
The price tag on the PS5 Pro is due to :
1. A complete lack of competition from Microsoft
2. Sony wanting to make an actual profit on this piece of hardware

This is the reasonable analysis!
A couple hundred more for a couple upgrades some will want. It’s that simple.
Region issue, the price difference is 280 bucks, if it is not worth it for you, don't buy it ,period
The standard PS5 will get the same exact games so most of the people who are complaining like you are literally fighting with a ghost
Well if you think a lexus isn't worth it, then the toyota is for you. 🤷♂️

Microsoft, on the other hand, has made it a total mission to even get their current-gen console with a disc drive (Xbox Series X) and to add salt on the wound? They began to close down their Physical Media division iirc
I’m still pretty happy with my PS4 Slim and outside of Demon’s Souls (which came out ON LAUNCH DAY 2020), there’s quite literally no games worth buying the PS5 for…base versions, Slim, or Pro.

That would be crazy
People buy 4090s at $1500 being a 23% increase over the $900 7900XTX. That $600 difference is justified. People seem fine with that but twice that uplift for $200, and it's the end of the world. No consistency.
@jiggerypokery2962 People justifying this purchase are gonna be the blame when the ps6 cost an outrageous price
@@jiggerypokery2962 It's not. PC Gamer's hardware choices are heavily romanticized on the internet. The largest reason most switch to pc is value and a lot of pc gamers don't see the value in the 40-Series Gpus either.

The dollar sign goes first in US currency. Are you ok?
@@szymonm.8138 That one time on startup is enough to be e-waste, something that shouldn't have been required to begin with.
Just... don't... buy... it...
@@n8tivesun673 oh I wont. Definitely not for 700. Sony has gone kanye.
Shameful that they don’t include an $80 disc drive with the 30th anniversary edition. Absolutely shameful.

Sony gotta nickel and dime you - it's the Concord tax!
The optical drive is 50 dollar extra if it's included. 80 dollar extra as standalone :)

Digital is not the future it is only a point in time while the content is accessable. Anyone who thinks digital is perfectly fine is Naiive. Also it would be nice if we could go back with not needing to install everything, if we can sort out the microSDXC/disc speed/drive read speed, buffer, cache and ram allocation that everything can work fast and quick resume and not need to be installed, we could use the storage drive space for other things like dowloading, storing and playing back media, recording gameclips/gameplay. etc.
Looking forward to getting a Pro for GTA VI and of course, that also depends on reviews on the Pro when that officially releases.

100% agree! This is a perfect response. They likely decided between this, a more expensive model, or making a lot less money. They decide on the experimental model that has the most monetary potential, since there’s a lot of upside, and the risk is all a learning opportunity before next gen.

When you try to explain these things, you might include a 800 euro price in my country without that stand and disk.
You looked from a single point of view. The digital version. Try the price in the UK, Europe, Canada, and remember that our currencies have greater value than the U.S. dollar.

I personally think people have lost the true meaning of the word “scam.”
People are equating scam with what they consider to be overpriced.
110 for a Game you own vs Half priced game you dont own

I just use pc for the epic games free games(rtx 4090) and content creation but buying games on pc is stupid retarded And the worst thing is that PC users let themselves be fucked, they don't complain and yet they feel superior to console users.

They didn't make any overclockes to the processor or added cores and the video card specs are TBD
Every game takes advantage of the hardware. These consoles don’t have any secret sauce that’s gonna let them do anything.
I'm getting ps5 pro, because since day one, I've played in performance mode...can't wait to actually see some awesome details.
If Sony had included a disk drive with the Pro then some will still complain why it's $800. Cause it's a fun trend to complain 😆😆😆
Sony did the same with Ps3, the fat one with 40 gig, then 60, and 80 gig; then they made the Playstation slim.
Amazing, one of a kind explanation. I got PS5 back in 2021 with disc dr (digital wasn't available), owning about 40 games since. I have 0 disks. I was able to pre order PS5 Pro and absolutely don't care about the stand or a disk drive.
Let’s go! Love to see a gamer who’s confident in what they want. Hope you enjoy it!
In my country it can take about 60 hours to do the same
This math is great but don't apply to Europe market.
Meh... gaming is hobby. Gotta pay to play.
I think the point you are glossing over with people saying "just build a PC" is that sony and xbox clearly want to move gamers to an all digital future. Sony has already stated ps5 is in the back half of its life cycle and they're already looking towards ps6. I wouldn't be shocked if ps6 is digital only.
The point is if video games will be all digital in the near future regardless of being on console or
pc, PC is the much cheaper option over the course of years buying games and not having to pay additional subscription plans to play online.
@@madkurious
To say "neither is better" is VERY disingenuous and straight up a lie.
Claim: "sony wants to move gamers to all digital"
Evidence: "they're going to make a PS6" (naturally)
"I wouldn't be shocked if PS6 is digital only" (speculation)
You can literally go buy a laptop right now that spanks the ps5 and ps5 pro at 1080p to 1440p for $750 right now XD
I've rambled enough I think. I hope sony stops being so arrogant and taking advantage of its fans. It's the ps3 days all over again.
You have the CPU wrong on the Pro. It has an over clock function and its 3.8 Ghz.
Awesome! It’s all about knowing what we want and doing it. Don’t let the rage baiters stand in your way!
Awesome! It’s all about knowing what we want and doing it. Don’t let the rage baiters stand in your way!
So many people acting like a console is a necessity, when it’s a luxury. You’re not entitled to have a console be affordable, and if you don’t think it’s worth $200 more then move on, and stop crying.
Yes! If this were housing or food, I’d be telling a completely different story here. But luxury goods? Buy it or don’t, there’s 0 reason for upset.
Very well said. Thank you!
Appreciate the kind words. Thanks for watching!
Its not 100 for the ssd you have to buy a 2tb there is not a free slot you have to replace the original drive. The cpu frequency stats and memory bandwith figures are also wrong.
well, the stand was there in the og ps5 and it cost now 30... meaning, stand plus disc drive on the pro is actually 110.
but the stand was present on the digital ps5 og.
How come noone mentions the 2TB SSD in the pro?
2tb is a good start
It’s definitely worth something! $100ish for the extra 1TB if the consumer buys it themselves (I have an external for my OG PS5, myself)
It's not just the Disc Drive. It's also the Stand. For a Console that was made to stand up, it's actually a spit in the face if you need to buy that extra. And in comparison about the Prices with the other Versions, this should be incl. since the Base PS5 has the Stand incl.
Funny how it’s made to stand up, but I’ve never stood mine up
@@MarcusWarcus40 to be honest, i would it also not stand up, but the marketing of this Console say something different.
You get it!! People are spending double a PS5 on just GPUs and then hollering about price😂
Also they probably would have had less blow black if they could have offered a $50 expansion disk drive (like the price differential in the slim) but then of course with scalpers
now gobbling up disc drives in order to resell at double the price-there are those considerations as well.
The main problem is that consoles are 200-400 dollar normally. Now it's ~800 dollar with optical drive. Before tax. It's too expensive!
Still helluva sticker shock, But I seen enough digital foundry videos to be comfortable with my purchase and watching this video I suppose is the icing on the cake😅
You have one more new subscriber.
Hope you’re enjoying it! Thanks for watching!
It's cheaper than I would have thought thanks to inflation
Yeah, inflation is truly awful right now. And most incomes aren’t rising with it.
In europe the original PS5+ Disc drive was €500. The Pro+Disc drive is €920 after 4 years for a slightly better experience
Please do more of this . We need more Michael Pachters in the gaming community.
I couldn't care less about the disc drive. Is the newer GPU and storage worth $200 more? 🤷🏻♂️
well, $100 for the storage cost is *very* fair, so just $100 for the massive GPU upgrade plus PSSR etc, *and* you get wifi7 for faster DL which is nice for 250GB COD etc. Seems to me that it couldn't possibly be interpreted as a "bad" deal.
This isn't true in the UK. Digital edition and non-digital difference is £100, and the drive is on sale for £100. Cool idea, but seems to be USA only.
Exchange rates would be another interesting topic! It seems like the UK and possibly other countries are getting a poor deal in this.
So glad I could help!! Hope you love it. I’m not planning to get one just yet, so I can’t wait to see what people think of it when it releases.
Ooo thank you for this awesome background. I’ve never heard of this before! Learned some things from this comment. Thanks for watching!
I loved this video and everything you explained!
Thank you for coming across my feed =.)
The bigger issues is the $200 - $300 dollar price jump between the base ps5 and the pro.

I think you misspoke at 2:27, you said "the digital is actually $50 more"
Nope, I was comparing Slim and OG. the Slim Digital is $50 more than the OG Digital.
Pin of shame?
PS4 release price is USD 399,
3 year later PS4 Pro release price is USD 399.
PS5 release price is USD 499,
4 year later PS5 Pro release price is USD 699 (without disc)
Seem like people paying 200 Concord tax to cover Sony failure game
This is true except for those who want physical games for game preservation. The modular disc drives require online registration to be operable. The original PS5 with a built in doesn’t require it. PC doesn’t need physical because it isn’t a closed ecosystem where you can only get your games from one source. The modular slim never entered into many people’s calculus because they’d prefer the physical with the disc drive unable to work without phoning home to a server that isn’t guaranteed to be there.
storage nvme do cost a lot too pro does seem nice
Realitywise just look back at each every last past gaming console "Pro's" versus their originals to know all what to expect generally which is mostly *Cosmetics* that they should have done 1st place, no?

And the stand i did buy at AliExpress for 9$ with adapter for OG version, and this stand is the same as the original one. The big price hit is for the New people thst don't have a consol yet.
Sounds like a great plan! Hope both of you enjoy! Thanks for watching:)
Doesn't seem like much of an upgrade at the moment
The original digital ps5 is a complete non-starter for so many people and people aren't mad that they "took away" the disc drive they're mad that a Pro console doesn't offer the complete feature set that the previous Pro console had and that a lower end base ps5 has which is a disc drive at a $700 price point.
If you only have $40 in your pocket and you are choosing between a $30 plastic stand or the latest $40 hero shooter from sony...the stand is actually a pretty good value.
😂 RIP Concord. This was too funny
Finally a more comprehensive video about the ps5 pro! Great info. Ppl on youtube are just on that hate train
Thanks for watching! This is exactly why I made this video. I’m exhausted of rage bait content, so I’m starting to make more of what I want to see.
Thank you so much for the kind words!!
People pay more for a mobile phone and is a phone really worth it..
