Meanwhile Nintendo has had more time because the OLED was just a different type of screen with sharper black coloring. The Switch 2 is going to be closer to a handheld PS4 with Nintendo games that is backwards compatible and will still use physical games. What handheld does Sony have? Oh you have to be near the PS5 for it to work? What the hell is the point? Sony should make a new PSP.
honestly, this announcement has kickstarted my interest in building an upgradable gaming PC. $700 for a game console is insanity. if console manufacturers aren't subsidizing their proprietary platform anymore theres no point on buying one
I wonder if people in 1977 spending the equivalent of $938 today on the Atari 2600 also thought the price was insane. Probably not since it sold 30 million units
Yeah, the PC is going to run the older games from 06-2020 a million times better than the Pro. I want to upgrade my 4k60 tv to hdmi 2.1 tv but there isn’t enough horsepower in any console to actually get nice graphics settings & high(90+) frames. So many really cool ps4 era games will be running at 30fps on the Pro. Like , no way sim spending $800 on hardware that’s gonna run AAA multiplat games from 2017 at 30fps low settings 🤣. Sure the newest aaa games may have parity between Pro & PC but the PC is gonna run those older games like a rock star.
I hope the switch 2 is 400. The PS5 Pro is going to need to prove itself when it comes out. Every game that comes after the release of the PS5 pro needs to take advantage of every single feature it has. Sony needs to go back and add support for as many games as possible. If Sony doesn't push developers to do that, The PS5 pro will flop hard. 700 dollar price tag is making me think Sony wants to scoop the money from the people that will be okay spending that amount on the PS5 pro. Then, after Sony feels like they had enough, they will drop the price.
@@captaincrunch1707 Still not as high as the competition which is a good thing. The cheaper console tends to win. Lemme give you some examples. Sega Genesis was cheaper than the SNES starting out. Genesis sold more that year. PlayStation was cheaper than the Saturn. PlayStation sold more that year.
Brief off-topic bit of a longer comment: The Xenoblade series are at the top of some of my favorite games, best experiences I’ve had in gaming, I low key be getting emotional thinking about what an XCX remake or XC4, or XC3 upgrade for Switch 2 would look like and how damn beautiful it will be. But more in topic of PS5, story time: During my senior year of high school I took a seasonal scare actor job at a haunted maze type attraction. Over the course of those six weeks, working 4-6 hours a night, 4 days a week for 6 weeks (not trying to make it sound hard, it wasn’t, I would just be tired asf at school), I made just over $1,000. I then got a PS5 and half of my money is gone like that. I wanted a PS5 and I was a high schooler, didn’t need that much money yet. But imagine like someone in a similar situation, a lot more of a PlayStation fanboy than I am cause I usually prefer Nintendo, they work for six weeks to buy a PS5 Pro, then they want a disc drive, stand, and have to pay tax. After all that work being left with literally being left with just enough money to buy MAYBE two games.
GOD an XCX remake on the next switch would be incredible. adding this to my personal hopes and dreams list now, thank you. and i totally know what you mean. when the xbox one launched i spent like MOST of my savings at the time on it. after finishing the titanfall 1 campaign i started to realize there wasn't much left to look forward to in the pipeline and i learned a very important lesson about being an early console adopter.
Have to add to this, I never would have played a game like xenoblade then a friend of mine said I just had to try it, and I do keep an open mind. And just literally wow, xenoblade just has to be one of thee most greatest game achievements of all time, not only is the story unremarkable the mechanics and world building and aesthetic is out of this world amazing. A def must own game. Any remake or new game of this IP is wanted so badly from me, hands down.
@@davidm.schreckii1426Yeah people usually mostly compliment the story, the music, the characters, but it’s world exploration and combat are just as engaging, especially in 2 and 3, and it’s an absolute technical marvel and simultaneously a tragedy that Monolith Soft has put this series out despite the limitations of the Wii, 3DS, Wii U, and Switch with minimal sacrifice to their creative vision. I think XC3 has the most glaring sacrifices and shows the Monolith really deserves to have the shackles of underpowered hardware be released.
Back in 2020 I predicted that we wouldn’t get Pro consoles this generation because the consoles are already powerful for the price. We won’t run into issues like Control running at 9fps on PS4. Sony made one anyways and it’s not just pointless, it’s a borderline scam.
It’s funny how Cerny talked about what game developers want, but multiple developers have said they don’t even see the point of the PS5 Pro. This probably isn’t the no compromises system they may have hoped for, because the CPU is still going to be a bottleneck.
Sony have been "Apple-ing" this entire console generation. Botched the launch. Relied on remakes. Botched the VR2 and killed it. Dropped a streaming handheld that nobody wanted, with earphones that HAD to be bought seperately, regular Bluetooth headphones don't work. Killed the momentum of Helldivers 2. Messed up Concord completely. Removed the disc drive and started selling them seperately. My point is that people are SUDDENLY shocked they're releasing a $700 refresh with no disc drive and no vertical stand. The writing was on the wall.
Short answer: It's for shareholders. It's a showcase of PS6 price and being all digital. People will rant about it now, be angry about it, digest it, cope with it, accept it. And then they easily swallow $649 all digital barebones PS6. Simple.
I would have bought the PS5 pro at 700.00...the deal breaker was that we have to buy a separate disc drive just to play the physical games....I'll guess I'll wait to find it at my local pawn shop or disc replay stores💁🏾♂️
I've given some light initial thought to getting a PS5 Pro specifically for PSVR2. As an explainer, there are essentially three tiers of VR price range. T1: $149-600 for a standalone headset from Meta or Pico or a cheap headset to use with an existing mid tier PC. Low fidelity, but good enough nowadays to get the full experience no problem. T2: $1000ish for a very solid headset or a PC hardware upgrade to run your existing headset at higher fidelity. T3: Actually like $5000 to go full sicko and get like a Pimax Crystal, RTX 4090 GPU, etc. in order to do actual top of the line VR. A PS5 Pro and a PSVR2 either on its frequent sale or secondhand is pretty much exactly $1000 for a device that is just barely below the full extent of T3, a headset i can use with my PC to play my existing library, and the already great and growing library of PSVR2 games on PS5 with maxed out performance.
yea ps5 still feels like it really isn’t out yet. i remember when i was a kid and people had gaming consoles i wanted to own one so bad and felt like i was kind of missing out. the ps5 makes me feel completely different i really don’t feel that bad not owning one and i almost have no reason to want one (only reason being gta 6, which isn’t even out yet)
@@michaelvargas8656 So none of the games that came out in the last year like Spider Man 2, Baldur's Gate 3, Final Fantasy 16, Stellar Blade, Final fantasy: Rebirth, Wukong, Astro Bot, Rise of the Ronin, Helldivers etc does it for you? None? Almost all of them high scored and considered amazing games but no killer app and you are only waiting for just GTA6? Really? Then is not the games is just you that seems to only play just GTA.
@@SIPEROTH i’ve been playing my switch and gameboy sp recently. before that though i was playing dishonored 2 (i got for $6 recently) and fallout 4 on my ps4. a couple of the games you mentioned do seem interesting, like the final fantasy ones and maybe wukong, but three game or maybe 4 isn’t enough for me to by a ps5 yet. i haven’t played gta 5 for maybe 5 years, but gta 6 seems like it’ll be really fun to play with my friends. a lot them don’t have ps5s yet or don’t play too many games but when gta 6 comes out i feel a lot more people will get a ps5.
Chiming in as someone who is going to buy one. This is for people like me who have a 77” OLED tv and want the absolute best experience we can get. I liked FF7 Rebirth a lot but the performance on that was rough. I have a hard time playing games at 30fps unless it’s a low paced game, which generally isn’t the type of game I play, and the performance mode for Rebirth looked so bad. I don’t love the price, I expected it to be $599 and even though that’s only $100 difference it would have been a lot more palatable. That said the that that actually puts me over the edge to buy it is because my roommate is going to buy my launch model PS5 which will cover around half the cost. And I’ve got some cash laying around from other stuff to cover the rest. If I didn’t have an easy way to get money out of my current PS5 I don’t know if I would buy buying the Pro, especially at launch.
I have a 77” OLED and an Xbox, but never pulled the trigger on a PS5. I’m in my 30s with a good income (making ~$250k/yr), so I’m not super price conscious. I care a lot about graphics, more than performance. So, I MIGHT go for the PS5 Pro. But even then, it feels like I’d get more value out of just a regular PS5 Disc version. I’m such a casual player without enough time to play much anyway, so I’m not sure it’s worth the extra few hundred bucks. I feel like I should be in their target demographic, and even I probably won’t get it because I already have a solid gaming PC if I really want amazing graphics and performance. I feel like they’re going to have to get it under $600 to move these.
@@Pythonzzzas a self described casual player, the regular PS5 is definitely the better play for you. Gaming is my number one hobby, and where I spend most of my time that I’m not working or hanging out with my wife and our dogs. The target demographic, in my opinion, is people who get annoyed with performance issues. Which is definitely me. I also have pretty nice PC that runs a lot of games at over 60 FPS on an ultrawide monitor so it’s super noticeable for me when a console game is locked to 30. I liked Gotham Knights a lot more than most people but it is very rough to play that after I play a game that runs at 60.
I’m in the same boat. Black Myth looks pretty bad in performance on a 4k tv. $700’s a lot but still valuable as 4 year investment I’m going to be spending the majority of my free time enjoying
@@theicon2125 that’s true, I guess the casual part puts me out of their target demographic. It just seems like their target is too niche at that price point to move a lot of units. I guess we’ll see how it plays out. Have fun with yours when it comes out! It’s going to look pretty sweet on that tv.
Now the base PS5 owners get to know the same bittersweet humility that Series S owners have. Will they say that the PS5 is "holding Playstation developers back" from taking full advantage of the "Pro"? The Series S was 300$ and plays every game worth playing exceptionally well as long as one is ok with 1440p, which I am until the next Gen.🐿 Consoles used to be very unique in style with proud design, but modern consoles do not feel worth investing much into. If a modern Playstation is 700$, then I'd pay 900$ for a new Dreamcast. Even 1,200$ for a modern equivalent of a Neo Geo AES would find a customer base nowadays. People like quality. We just need better competition. Great take on this interesting development👍
Its genuinely mind boggling. The people that would be interested in a ps5 pro would be the more hardcore gaming enthusiast type, but at 700$, why not just build a pc at that point? If your willing to spene that much and want as good of performance as you can get, you would just get a pc.
I agree 100% with the discourse surrounding this announcement and its price. With that being said, I am honestly one of those people that will probably pick one up (maybe used or refurbished) when GTA 6 or an exclusively current gen FromSoft game drops. I got a used PS4 slim days of play edition in 2019 and installed an SSD a couple years later. It has served me perfectly fine and still runs very well, and so due to the lack of games on the PS5 and also owning a switch I never saw a reason to upgrade because I had plenty of games to play. I prefer having my games digitally and also would have the PS5 lying flat anyway due to the configuration of my TV stand, so those factors don’t really bother me. I figure if I’ve waited this long to upgrade (would be in 2025-2026) I might as well get the best version of the thing possible, and I imagine there will be sales or deals by then that will bring the price down if Sony themselves don’t do it.
I'm one of the few who will be getting one. I'm actually hoping (i could be wrong) it'll make PSVR 2 games better. Plus I have a huge backlog of newer games i haven't played yet. Since i can, i figured "what the hell, why not?" I'm not worried about sending Sony the wrong message because I'm sure most people won't get one and have no problem with people thinking it's generally a stupid idea to get one. I had a PS4 pro and there was a huge difference for PSVR from the OG. Maybe I'll luck out and that'll be the case again this time around.
Ps5! What games does it have? It has no games. It's using the ps4's library. Ps5 pro should be called ps4 ++. And the ps6 should be called ps5 original.
I like this video but your take on the failure that was the PS3 seems ill-informed. First of all according to your top10 it sold better then the xbox360, which comes as no surprise because in Europe it did just as well as the xbox360 and it dominated throughout Asia. Don't know about South America and Oceania, but as far as I know it only did poorly in the US. The issue with the PS3 was that it was hard to program for while the xbox was very similar to a PC and could build an excellent library of multiplatform games whilst also having outstanding exclusives. I don't think the Ps3 flopped. Having said that, it's the 360 that set a new benchmark and like you pointed out, it was Sony who caught on to that with the Ps4.
Even if I was really interested in the PS5 pro, the fact that there is no disc drive just kills it for me. Playstations have always been the movie disc playing system and moving away from that seems like a huge mistake.
PS5 is one of the ugliest consoles of all time. I was hoping with the Pro, we would get a redesign. We got the same dumb looking system. I guess I will pass on it. The PS4 is still a great system, with tons of great games out for it.
So if you don’t want to buy this your poor? Erm no! Dont want to waste money. Both Xbox and Sony lied about the ps5 ,series x. No more 30fps. These things will do 60fps 4k. I was taken in too. Bought series x. So Jan this year bought Alienware pc i7 and 4080, 8TB, 64gb ram. I’m good for many years. Fook these consoles.
It's for fan boys. Exclusively for them because nobody else is seeing the value in a $700 box that makes the background more detailed. It just doesn't justify a higher price tag. And now people are concerned about how expensive the PS6 and next Xbox is going to be. Because I imagine to improve the CPU it will cost even more money compared to a simple GPU upgrade.
You know if they just knock $50 off the price and have the 699 model include the disk drive in the box, I’d buy it. Haven’t seen anyone mention that but I think it’d be a pro move to build goodwill in the community.
Its 940$ (usd) in Sweden. I own no gaming console or Pc at all, if i buy Ps5 Pro i e got ALOT of games to play. If it gets 60fps in Monster Hunter Wilds its worth it to me (if base Ps5 get 30fps) A game i know i will spend 3000+ hours playing. That said, i will probably get a Pc instead cuz i want to play games with mods.
My reasons for buying a Switch 2 so far, is that I heard Switch 2 games wouldn't be playable on OG Switch. No choice to buy it now, but if that turns out to be wrong, I don't think I need to upgrade.
Absolutely no reason to change to pro if your ps5 disk version. Also, nobody will get ps5 at 800+, at least 1200+ because of the bots. Remember ps5 initial launch? I got mine at 800 bucks after almost 8 months.
@@zoiuduu I waited 2years+, then 800 at that time was at the lowest. But now, I don't think people can get pro at 800 bucks before this bad 9th gens end. Really not worth it.
I think at some point developers forgot what the point of consoles are. This goes for Sony and Microsoft, too. Convenience is key. There's little convenience in PS and Xbox these days. Game developers need to make better choices making their games, too.
I’m not getting one but I understand the appeal in some cases. The WiFi and storage also help justify the price. I think if you have paid a premium for a tv or nice display you want the best a console can produce if you aren’t interested in PC. Especially if you are in the Sony ecosphere already.
I don’t think the hardware is good enough even on the PC side. a 4090 can’t even run every new game with Ray tracing on at 4K hitting over 100 FPS. Hell, even with a 4090 you can’t even max out the new Star Wars and hit a constant 60 FPS.. Hardware is not good enough even in a PC .
The theory I've seen a bunch of is that Sony is banking on GTA6 and in particular some bespoke "ps5 pro enhanced" mode to push pro units. (Pro + stand + disc drive + game + tax = about $950. Which, holy crap.) Maybe. I've a (wholly unsubstantiated) pet conspiracy theory of my own: given the long development cycles of modern AAA titles, manufacturers no longer view taking a loss (even on the front end) on console sales as a sustainable model. I wonder if the PS5 Pro isn't the sacrificial lamb for a market reset; it'll flop and absorb all the angry blowback (which couldn't have come as a surprise to them) so that when the PS6 launches at $599 (or $649 or whatever) we'll have already been sufficiently desensitized to this new norm in console pricing that we'll barely bat an eye.
I think the biggest takeaway from the PS5 Pro is as you said "This generation didn't need it", and I'm *really* hoping for both Xbox and Sony to release entry-level models in the next generation. I think the Xbox Series S was absolutely the right answer, and it inadvertently even solved for the problem of how badly inflation would fuck us all up. Let the Xbox Series X be for that "hardcore" crowd, let it be for the people who need the best, let it be for those who are "Xbox for life" and have massive physical game collections. Let the Xbox Series S be for those of us who are just starting to dip our toes into the platform. Similarly, next gen, if we had a PS6 and PS6"S" and an Xbox 10X and Xbox 10S (btw yea I'm assuming Xbox may do some silly naming like 10 because it'll be the 10th gen of gaming, because that's also what Xbox does, we'll call it the XXX and XXS tho because "lol XXX") Let the PS6 and XXX be for the "myplatform for life" crowd, the console warrior douchebags, etc. While the PS6"S" and XXS would be for those of us who either don't feel we *NEED* better, or are just getting into that platform. We can say "developers hate the XSS" and so forth, but like, if *both* platforms went with this structure, yeah, we'd have one machine for the hardcore who want to push it (like Pro people do), and one machine for those who just want the damn game to run on the console (XSS players) Also, we'd get both machines from both companies at the *START* of a generation, which is just more value for us in the long-run, no thoughts of yikes a $700 pitiful upgrade released with an expected 2/3 year lifespan? Nah, give us the $700 machine that has a 7 year lifespan, alongside a $300/400 machine that has that same 7 year expected lifespan.
Series S was a Mistake. Doing the mid gen upgrade allows PS to offer 2 consoles at different price points appealing to the hardcore improving tech as the generation moves forward without holding the generation back. Tech in pro is a preview of the future base console. ML,PSSR,Ray Tracing,Frame generation, will be mature with PS devs gaming experience in real world results without having to wait until a new generation starts.
Digital only is dumb because consoles that play physical games can also download digital games so really the only thing that matters here is storage capacity. If companies can just wave a magic wand and take away your digital games, wouldn't it make more sense to keep physical versions around just so you can reinstall them or play them?
I'm buying a PS5 Pro because it will be the first PS5 I own. I deliberately waited for the pro version, because I knew for a FACT it would eventually come out. Why buy an inferior version of a console, if you can wait a few years and buy the superior version? I will never buy a first edition console. The PS4 Pro taught me that lesson.
Can we please just not count the stand? Every time i see everyone mentioning the stand i can't help but facepalm. I even heard people making videos and saying completely brainless things like "what if i want to put it vertically?". I felt like i was living in ins4ne land. Just put it vertical, it stands just fine, why is everyone mentioning that god d4mn stand like they never touched a PS5 console before? I got my PS5 with a stand and i didn't even use it. I threw it back in the box because i just put it vertically next to the TV and is fine without it, it doesn't wabble or anything. It is solid as hell. What is this pointless stand obsession? Why is everyone mentioning it? I feel like am taking crazy pills here.
@@SIPEROTHSo you’re okay with paying for less? Doesn’t matter if it seems useful or not. The base PS5 came with it and then they started to sell it without it because they are greedy so are we supposed to just be okay with just paying for less?
@@Oneserioustiger Sorry but that is the most silly "paying for less" i have ever seen people get upset about. First, is something you don't actually need at all. You lose zero functionality not having it including standing it vertically. Second they didn't really give you less. The original stand they had was mostly for putting it horizontally because PS5 actually doesn't sit properly horizontally, NOT vertically. So it needed something for horizontal positioning. They just added the functionality of working vertically as well since they put the thing in the box anyway. they basically just went the extra mile. But with the slim(and the Pro) they just started putting on the box those little plastic feet that do the job of horizontal placement so they didn't need to give you a stand because it never needed a stand to be placed vertically. So they still give you something for your console to be placed horizontally which was the original purpose. Third, we are all pretending like all our consoles have been coming with stands and suddenly we are outraged not getting one when they never did. Does Xbox SX comes with a stand? Does the Switch? Xbox ONE had a stand for vertical placement. Guess what. SOLD SEPARETLY! PS4? Same. Maybe they gave it the good old days? NOPE. PS2? Sold separately! PS3? Sold separately! So they just gave you one for the PS5 original for the first time and it wasn't for vertical placement, it was actually for horizontal and suddenly you act like is for granted they should give you one for a placement where your console doesn't need it?
My only reasoning to get the ps5 pro would have been to enhance psvr2 games framerates and resolution. But sony has pretty much abandoned VR game development and now that it works on my PC there is REALLY no reason for me to get the pro.
I feel the PS5 Pro was designed for people like me who play almost every day and love visuals, Iv been waiting a long time for a 4K/60fps to play all my Alien, Predator, F1 and GT7 franchise games but the thing is i wont pay another $700 plus stand plus disc drive when i already own a PS5
Any older game like alien predator game isn’t gonna run much better on the Pro unless it’s patched. Maybe it’s got a dynamic resolution or unlocked frameRate so the new Pro can automatically run it better. For many older games though, they’ll be forever locked to 30fps. An $800 pc is likely gonna run alienPredator at 2k120fps.
@@captaincrunch1707 Alien Fireteam Elite is a PS5 game so i think it il run at 4k/60fps, now for Predator Hunting Grounds and Alien Isolation im not sure how it will look since they are PS4 games
You could only justify it if, and only if it formed part of your exit strategy for leaving the console market entirely. And just giving up on gaming. That's literally the only time you could justify spending this much money.
There are two games I really really want to play. They're both 3rd party and one was just announced for PC. I'd rather deal with a PC before buying a PS5 at this point.
I'm getting it. I'll just sell my day one version and upgrade to this.. it's a $300-400 to upgrade. Yeah it's alot but I prefer having the best version of the console. Especially if the ps6 won't support Blu Ray which is a strong possibility.
Well for the US is kind of in the "expensive but i guess if you really want it is not the worst thing you could do" but in the EU is more like in the "if i buy it i feel like a sucker" territory because along with the drive is over a thousand dollars. I am interested in having it because i like having all the cool hardware etc but over a thousand goes way too far. Thankfully although i was planning to get it i wasn't planning to get it right now anyway because i am not first day adopter. I bought my normal PS5 about this time last year so i want to enjoy that a little more and i plan to have the Pro the first few years of the PS6 since i am not an early adopter. This means i still have two-three years to wait in the hope that i will find a good discount on it or the price drops a little etc. Honestly i was calculating 600 to 650 euro but it went up to 800 without a drive. So unless it falls or i find a discount to at least 650 i probably will not buy it and just stay with the normal PS5.
@@nothingincommon Not free since i get healthcare taxes cut out of my paycheck each month and is not all that is crack up to be when you need a doctor or an operation and they tell you in six months(if they don't cancel and rearrange it half way) even though you may die in six months. And if you don't like it go pay somewhere private if you can find it. That is the moment you realise you have been paying taxes for low grade service and you still need to fork out big cash to get actual healthcare. Free healthcare is only good for minor stuff or sudden emergencies where you won't need to pay a fortune if you fainted and they took you to the emergency room or something.
@@SIPEROTH I honestly don't know why they charge more in EU. You'd think they would charge the same within a few % plus or minus. Does the 1000 euro include the VAT or you still have to pay more on top ?
@@nothingincommon Yes the tax is included but the US will still pay less even with tax. The Eu has a higher sales tax which is why i guess it ends like that but they usually didn't raise it that much because the euro is stronger so some that gets absorbed by the currency since 800 euro is 880 dollars etc. So if they charged us the same price as the US but in euro it will still be higher than 700 dollars so that covers a little of the higher sales tax and they could have just put it 750 to cover a little more of the tax etc but not only they didn't cover even 20 dollars worth of tax but they are even making a little on top. They went all middle finger on us and is probably because in Europe Xbox is almost completely dead so they take us fully for granted. Most stores don't even sell Xbox consoles. My country isn't even supported by Microsoft services. If i pay for Game Pass etc i have to lie that am from a different country, so we mostly have Nintendo and PlayStation but even other Eu countries that have Xbox services barely have any Xbox. Many stores in Germany for example have stopped ordering Xbox consoles.
I'm getting the PS5 pro because it has WiFi 7 and I have a wifi 7 router and for the 2tb SSD I have the slim and the 1tb drive is already full and I don't want to expand it yet
The PS5 Pro is for people who want to play in fidelity mode at 60fps, and do not want to purchase a Gaming Pc. Although an equivalent spec pc isn’t that much more expensive, maybe $1000-1500, to get a PC that can run PS5 games on the Steam versions often requires better hardware rather than equal. Most pc ports of AAA console games are poorly optimized for PC. My PC struggles to run FFXV at max settings despite my gpu and cpu being about 5 years newer than the game itself and miles ahead of the PS4’s hardware specs, because the game was poorly optimized. The PS4 arguably runs better than the PC version on my PC with a ryzen 3600x and RTX 3070. With that in mind, the PS5 Pro isn’t that crazy on paper, it’s actually a good value compared to an equivalent performing PC, but unlike a PC, most games wont take advantage of that extra power, and already run at good enough frame rates on the original albeit with less graphical fidelity. For games that are hard locked at 30, the PS5 Pro is worth it if it means playing at 60.
I was initially turned off by the price, but after simmering, I think I might dig the console. PC gamers don’t get shamed for spending a lot on their rig to get the best specs/performance, why should console gamers?
The only people that will buy this are the people who are looking for validation because there is *LITERALLY* no reason for anyone who has a PS5 to buy this. To add insult to injury they even had the balls to show this console with *NO NEW SOFTWARE* 🤯 When you have studios who haven't delivered in 5yrs now. That's when you know your at your peak of cockiness and need to be brought back down to earth. 👀
They need to be honest about the price. With a drive or stand we are looking at $805 plus tax. For that, I can buy or build a decent computer which can play games. It might not be 17 teraflops, but it would be adequate, and also a computer. This is not cost-effective unless you have money to burn and are fanatical about console gaming. Both Sony and Microsoft promised 4K gaming at up to 120 FPS. Now Sony is telling us to spend $800 to get real 4K gaming at 60 FPS. It might be too strong to say that they lied to us, but I am feeling misled. The PS5 Pro would need to be twice as fast to do what they are promising. It is only 67% more powerful than the PS5, which is why they claimed "near fidelity mode" at 60 FPS. The PS5 and XBox Series X are good consoles. I see very little reason to spend $800 to get a better frame rate in fidelity mode. Neither will anyone else. The PS5 is four years old. Chip technology has improved a great deal in four years. After four years, they should be able to give us a more powerful system for the same $500 price.
Yes but chip manufacturers like TSMC etc has also raised their manufacturing prices two to three times this last four years. So that kind of killed the ability to go cheaper due to chip development. It is basically the reason none of them dropped the prices of normal consoles. Also i have a feeling Sony doesn't care whether people find it expensive or not. they are probably sell it at cost so they won't get financial damage of it and think of it as an extra choice for those willing to pay while still treating the normal PS5 as the system they actually want you to buy. In their mind they may be thinking "What is everyone whining about? We aren't forcing you to buy it, we are just giving you more choices. Go buy a normal PS5 if you don't like it."
It's for me...I bought the PS4 pro so I'm getting the PS5 pro...I want the be PlayStation on the market especially after hearing FF Rebirth is like "night and day" on the pro compared to the old dusty blurry base PS5 version.
The only reason I'm thinking of saving up for a PS5 is because they're going to stop development for the PS4 next year I'm more than happy with my PS4 it's not even a pro but I guess I'll have to save for the PS5 even though it's probably only got 3 to 4 years of life left in it.
I think minimum it has 4 years. I don't see them releasing as PS6 at least until the end of 2018 and there is a chance they may even push it at end of 2019 depending on circumstances. Personally i bought my PS5 end of last year and i think it was the best moment because it was from that moment that most PS5 only titles started coming since we saw from last year summer to this summer titles like FF16 and REbirth and Spider Man 2 and Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin and Astro Bot and Helldivers and Wukong and BG3 etc. Before that the games PS4 didn't get were counted on one hand but suddenly like 10 titles and more in a year ignored PS4 and great games that you really want to play at that as well, so i feel like i bought it just the right time to enjoy myself.
so when i said i can’t believe it’s running on switch because it looks so good, but that i wished it was running on more powerful hardware so it would look even better you only heard that second part, huh?
I have had my PS5 for less then a year now. Would i upgrade to a PS5 pro the answer is no because there is no need for a pro. It's not guaranteed that all games running on PS5 pro are going to hit 60 fps or even 120 fps it's all unnecessary. Even if i had the money which i do I still wouldn't buy the PS5 pro. With £700.00 i could build my own gaming pc or go out and buy a gaming laptop that can hit 4K 244 fps with ray tracing and that would destory a PS5 pro. Everythink that's being promised with the PS5 pro.We should of got with the PS5.
The only thing for a PS5 Pro at 550$ is an exclusive deal with rockstar for a 2y Playstation release. Bobody should buy oveerpriced tech with no good software on it (which you could buy elsewere too like PC),
I was waiting for this and skipped all the previous models. Over $800 with tax and so I can use my discs, means I don't think I will bother with anything. I bet next gen Playstation will be only digital and Xbox will want everyone to go Gamepass so Microsoft will sell streaming sticks for hardware.
even if i won the lottery i would just get a normal ps5 because i don't really want to support a scummy console like the ps5 pro. it is overpriced and misses some basic things, i don't want to see the market become like that
To be fair is not that is overpriced, is that it is not subsidised by Sony at all. I mean a similar GPU will be close to the price of the whole console so is not that is overpriced considering the hardware but usually this consoles sell cheaper because the makers sell them with a little loss on their side to get them into people's homes and make money back the money threw games etc. Nintendo is only one that don't do that and make profit on hardware sales which is why the sell weaker hardware that is cheap to make. Sony for the first time just pushed all the cost to the consumer like Nintendo but unlike Nintendo they did it with a pretty strong expensive hardware which means quite a high price. Now why they didn't subsidize this at all can be for quite a few reasons. 1)Maybe they think they can sell it as such prises just fine. 2) Maybe they don't care if it doesn't sell that well since they make their money threw games and subscriptions therefore whether you buy this or the normal PS5 is none of their concern and they see it as just a niche product for their fanatic fans. 3) Maybe they can't afford to subsidize it because Jim Ryan destroyed their profit margins by raising their expenses very high with investing tons on live services and live service studios like buying Bungie and Firewalk etc that until now brought no return on investment. Or maybe is a little of all the three above.
$700 with no vertical stand is absolutely diabolical.
the stand is like $30 and i keep wondering how much it costs to actually manufacture like... just put it in the box dudes
Like 2 bucks to produce
Do you even need a vertical stand for it to stand vertical anyways?
Do you even need the stand to place it vertically ?
You know the PS2 vertical stand also didn't come with the unit
I mainly feel bad for the poor marketing team that in 4 years will have to try to show how much better the PS6 graphics look compared to a PS5 Pro.
Exactly
honestly, this announcement has kickstarted my interest in building an upgradable gaming PC.
@@proggz39This inflation adjusted argument is nonsense. It's a false equivalency. Tedious.
@@proggz39 the avg price of a home in 1977 adjusted for inflation was $250 000. these arguments are moot.
@@proggz39they were thinking that they are getting a bargain, as computers back then were far more expensive that they are now.
Just like psvr2 pricing = start high & lower as needed.
Its the Concord tax.
Sony made one anyways and it’s not just pointless, it’s a borderline scam.
i justbought my firxt Xbox ever... got a Xbox one yesterday, used
Big fan of this long form gaming content, keep it up!
thanks for watching!!
Lacking a disc drive not only means no more physical games, it also means no more physical movies and tv shows on blu rays.
If Sony does announce Zero Dawn remastered, that might push some PlayStation gamers over the edge.
Short answer:
It's for shareholders.
It's a showcase of PS6 price and being all digital.
People will rant about it now, be angry about it, digest it, cope with it, accept it.
And then they easily swallow $649 all digital barebones PS6.
Simple.
Sly Cooper deserved to be a Saturday morning cartoon. If Sony does turn anything into a show, Sly Cooper is prime for it.
i would LOVE this
"I don't say I wish this was at 120" sure, but many people want 60 over 30
I would have bought the PS5 pro at 700.00...the deal breaker was that we have to buy a separate disc drive just to play the physical games....I'll guess I'll wait to find it at my local pawn shop or disc replay stores💁🏾♂️
You could get two switch oleds for the price of one ps5 pro.
I don't even know who the ps5 is for. 4 years in and I can't name one killer app.
yea ps5 still feels like it really isn’t out yet. i remember when i was a kid and people had gaming consoles i wanted to own one so bad and felt like i was kind of missing out. the ps5 makes me feel completely different i really don’t feel that bad not owning one and i almost have no reason to want one (only reason being gta 6, which isn’t even out yet)

I'm pretty jealous of astrobot not gonna lie. That game looks great. Hoping it comes to pc next year.
@@SIPEROTHDon't mention multi-plat games when shilling for a single platform. And no none of those is worth dropping $500.
If I didn’t have an easy way to get money out of my current PS5 I don’t know if I would buy buying the Pro, especially at launch.
having someone to sell your ps5 to definitely helps in a big way, totally get you!!
Good vibes, subbed for switch 2 content.
Its for people who want to play in fidelity mode with higher frame rates
If the Switch 2 is slightly over the power of a PS4 still portable that would be more than enough to beat the competence.
Since i can, i figured "what the hell, why not?"
I'm not worried about sending Sony the wrong message because I'm sure most people won't get one and have no problem with people thinking it's generally a stupid idea to get one.
It's worth it for me. 45% faster GPU, better ray tracing, and pisser

@PapaLazarou10 It sure will thanks to scalpers 🤣
Its for me baby. Cant fkn stand when games are 30 fps as standard , 60 fps should awlays be MINIMUM.
I'm literally buying a PS5 for Astro Bot :3
(And other reasons to justify my purchase i swear they make sense lmao)
Great video my new favorite TH-camr for gaming
I will skip the PS 5 pro.
Iin 4 years since ps5 been out I still haven't bought one
Sony won the 8th gen because their opponents committed seppuku even before they were released
this is such a good breakdown. I find myself just agreeing with you on every point. What in the world are they thinking?
PS5 is one of the ugliest consoles of all time. I was hoping with the Pro, we would get a redesign. We got the same dumb looking system. I guess I will pass on it. The PS4 is still a great system, with tons of great games out for it.
If the PS5 Pro was 1 million dollars, the die hards would still buy it, and make fun of poor people.
@@Mr.Eldric I'm using die hard logic in my comment. It's up to the developer themselves if they want to do 60fps.
I think the ps5 pro is so expensive so they dont have to lower the price of the base ps5
Its 940$ (usd) in Sweden.
I own no gaming console or Pc at all, if i buy Ps5 Pro i e got ALOT of games to play.
If it gets 60fps in Monster Hunter Wilds its worth it to me (if base Ps5 get 30fps)
A game i know i will spend 3000+ hours playing.
That said, i will probably get a Pc instead cuz i want to play games with mods.
I keep seeing people talk bad about the Pro but then justify why they are still going to buy it for content or whatever.
My reasons for buying a Switch 2 so far, is that I heard Switch 2 games wouldn't be playable on OG Switch. No choice to buy it now, but if that turns out to be wrong, I don't think I need to upgrade.
This is why I look forward to just getting a Steamdeck.
Absolutely no reason to change to pro if your ps5 disk version. Also, nobody will get ps5 at 800+, at least 1200+ because of the bots. Remember ps5 initial launch? I got mine at 800 bucks after almost 8 months.
if u paid 800 bucks back then, there is definitely lots of ppl who will buy for over 800 dude
People that will buy the ps5 pro are the ones that bought the ps portal......people that want the newest gadget at allcost without any reason
Me and my friends finally got a ps5 for monster hunter wilds. We was all happy playing on ps4
Similarly, next gen, if we had a PS6 and PS6"S" and an Xbox 10X and Xbox 10S (btw yea I'm assuming Xbox may do some silly naming like 10 because it'll be the 10th gen of gaming, because that's also what Xbox does, we'll call it the XXX and XXS tho because "lol XXX")
Let the PS6 and XXX be for the "myplatform for life" crowd, the console warrior douchebags, etc.
While the PS6"S" and XXS would be for those of us who either don't feel we *NEED* better, or are just getting into that platform.
We can say "developers hate the XSS" and so forth, but like, if *both* platforms went with this structure, yeah, we'd have one machine for the hardcore who want to push it (like Pro people do), and one machine for those who just want the damn game to run on the console (XSS players)
Also, we'd get both machines from both companies at the *START* of a generation, which is just more value for us in the long-run, no thoughts of yikes a $700 pitiful upgrade released with an expected 2/3 year lifespan? Nah, give us the $700 machine that has a 7 year lifespan, alongside a $300/400 machine that has that same 7 year expected lifespan.
Series S was a Mistake. Doing the mid gen upgrade allows PS to offer 2 consoles at different price points appealing to the hardcore improving tech as the generation moves forward without holding the generation back. Tech in pro is a preview of the future base console. ML,PSSR,Ray Tracing,Frame generation, will be mature with PS devs gaming experience in real world results without having to wait until a new generation starts.
Watching this while playing my portal
Yes mr wavelenght is on fire!
Ive been really wanting a ps5 pro until I saw the price. $1200 in Australia and $1400 with the drive and stand. Standard ps5 is $749
Can we please just not count the stand?
I like the Bach and Chopin in the background, lol….
chopin is my guy
@@itswavelengths me too! My mom played piano and he was her favorite. Mozart is my favorite tho….
Nintendo with terrible marketing and Xbox with Don Matrick.
@@SIPEROTH at least you get free healthcare
Pro tip, wait for the switch 2.
You are clueless the PS3 out sold the xbox 360.
The Xbox 360 sold 83 million consoles and the PS3 sold 86 million consoles
Yes it rocked, bought it on day 1.
Balls
I think im getting a ps5 pro just because I dont have the ps5 and you know... why not at this point
Who is the PS5 Pro Actually For? ..
I know , I know .... BLIND People !!
It’s a big no for me being $950 Canadian, along with owning a pc and base ps5. I wanted to upgrade to a pro but not at that price.
@@SIPEROTH You make good points.
It's not a racing stripe the ps5pro is ribbed for the ponies pleasure
It’s for those with deep pocket’s! 😂
I like your vibes! Insta sub!
Dude xenoblade 3 looks great, Don't lie about that just because you want a switch 2
so when i said i can’t believe it’s running on switch because it looks so good, but that i wished it was running on more powerful hardware so it would look even better you only heard that second part, huh?
It’s for me I’m goiny buy one , was contemplating the SpongeBob Xbox console with no upgrades at 700 but going for the ps5 pro for 700
I'm only considering the PS5 Pro because of Monster Hunter Wilds and Dynasty Warriors Origins.
Why get ps5 pro when you can get 7 nintendo alarm clocks instead 👍
I'm waiting till GTA 6 to buy a ps5
I have had my PS5 for less then a year now. Would i upgrade to a PS5 pro the answer is no because there is no need for a pro. It's not guaranteed that all games running on PS5 pro are going to hit 60 fps or even 120 fps it's all unnecessary. Even if i had the money which i do I still wouldn't buy the PS5 pro. With £700.00 i could build my own gaming pc or go out and buy a gaming laptop that can hit 4K 244 fps with ray tracing and that would destory a PS5 pro. Everythink that's being promised with the PS5 pro.We should of got with the PS5.
not for me
another banger
The PS5 Pro is for "content creators" to make videos about.
Xbox S with 2 TB card 285€. I only buy games in promo at 20€.
PCMR! Skip expensive, locked, unperforming consoles. It's a trap!
The only thing for a PS5 Pro at 550$ is an exclusive deal with rockstar for a 2y Playstation release. Bobody should buy oveerpriced tech with no good software on it (which you could buy elsewere too like PC),
The video was mostly good, but i think Jim Ryan ruined Playstation
I was waiting for this and skipped all the previous models. Over $800 with tax and so I can use my discs, means I don't think I will bother with anything.
I bet next gen Playstation will be only digital and Xbox will want everyone to go Gamepass so Microsoft will sell streaming sticks for hardware.
I dont think its worth for one game. Sony cancelled loads of IP'S its abit hypercritical of sony that japan studios, resistance, killzone
even if i won the lottery i would just get a normal ps5 because i don't really want to support a scummy console like the ps5 pro. it is overpriced and misses some basic things, i don't want to see the market become like that
To be fair is not that is overpriced, is that it is not subsidised by Sony at all.
For me
But at that price point not so much 😅
Playstation is starting to become an Iphone....
For me
