    Even if you have to pay $1000, a PC offers so much more in the form of what you can use it for, longevity, uprade-ability, repair-ability, no online play subscription, more games, emulators, the option for an optical drive for only $20, and so much more that it's worth the extra $300

      $1,000 is a low point to build something LIKE the ps5 (pro). The reality is games will be more optimized for console than for pc. Also the repair part is bullcrap for both, pc components AND consoles last for years even without proper maintenance/cleaning. The benefits of pc over console are the library of games and emulators. Most people only need a $200 laptop for their daily lives that's the reality. Also pc parts are MUCH more expensive outside the US

      Personally, I don't buy any games that require an internet connection. The live service game model is inherently anti-consumer. It is designed to maximize corporate profit, while giving players as little as possible. I also don't trust Sony to not delist and/or remove digital games whenever they feel like it, or charge whatever they want because they have a monopoly on digital games, as there are no other digital options on their console. Sony is getting sued in the UK for that monopolistic business practice right now.
      Physical media gives you options, and having options never goes out of style. Fail to learn this at your own peril.

    • @landmine36
      @landmine36 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      8K is already a thing, just games, computers, and consoles can't process it fast enough to be used, TV's / movies can.
      And unless you're super budget, basically every TV/Console/PC already support HDR/UHDR, and Ray Tracing is rapidly approaching being right there beside it.
      8K is pretty pointless though, and if anything doesn't need to be developed any further, but tech/tv manufacturers *have* to, because if they don't once they make 8k UHDR OLed etc etc panels, and they all become so affordable people have them and aren't upgrading to the latest and greats yearly they will go out of business.
      So because of that Display tech will continue to be so far ahead nothing can fully utilize it, if someone bought an 8K + extras today, that display would be beyond usable spec for atleast 10 years.

      I’m a console guy myself, but I’m afraid I will need to disagree with you here. You don’t need to build a gaming PC, you can buy them ready made very easily if you’re a ‘plug and play’ kinda person. As well, there’s quite a bit more a PC can do that a console cannot. Consoles are fine if you are only interested in gaming and streaming, but a gaming PC can double as your work station at home. You can write documents, browse the web, and if you’re into graphic designing it’s already set up to run whatever you’ll need. I’ve always been a console guy but I must admit, with the easier accessibility to mods and the promise of doubling as a work station, I’m nearly ready to jump ship 👀

    Disclaimer: I am a PC player and long ago abandoned consoles (PS2 maybe? lol). I have long said and continue to argue that PCs are better for gaming in almost every way - even if you want to game on your nice TV from your couch with a controller. However, there is something console players get that PC users will never get - optimization. Because a console is locked down with proprietary software and even some of the hardware, every console should behave the same way every time. Yes, obviously there are outliers just like there are with literally everything, but in general that PS5 sitting on Jay's desk should behave the same as any other PS5 in anyone else's house. Because of this, games released on consoles can be ultra optimized by the devs all the way down to the most miniscule of tweaks in an attempt to squeeze the most performance or the best looking visuals on potentially lesser hardware - and it should be rather consistent from machine to machine. This is why a lot of console gamers believe they're getting the better deal because they didn't have to do anything other than plug it in, and turn it on
    Look, we ALL know more than one person in our lives that we just wish DIDN'T have a computer because they're so tech-illiterate that they're always asking for help. Do you want THAT person gaming on a custom gaming PC? Absolutely NOT. There's also just something to be said for the ease of use and convenience of a console - and for some people that's worth it even if they know they could be getting more with a PC
    Anyway there's something for everyone, and I truly believe that the argument of "which is better" is literally the stupidest argument ever because they just aren't made for the same people for the same purpose
    TY for coming to my TeD TaLk

      Well said. Good balance of pros and cons and pointing out the whole different strokes for different folks thing.
      I am also a PC gamer, (5900x & 3080) and love the high quality visuals and FPS I get @3440x1440.
      I'm still going to be buying a PS5 Pro. Why? As you said, optimization and plug'n'play. A benefit you left out are the few exclusive games (if you care about the exclusives, which, yes, I do). There are also some game publishers (Looking at you Ubisoft and EA) that have launchers and unoptimized/laggy games with Jedi Survivor being a perfect example of unoptimized/laggy a year and change after release, when my pc should have a smooth high FPS experience. On PS5, I've heard it plays a lot better, and bonus, doesn't have the stupid launchers. Also, I will be buying the UHD-bluray player for 4k movie night which is something my pc CANNOT do since I can't find a 4kBluRay player for PC (that reads 4k movies, ask my UHD-bluray read/writer for my PC on the difference *exasperated sigh*). FInal reason for buying the PS5 Pro, I have an OG PS4 with a ton of games for it (some on discs) which will benefit from the PS5 Pro's backwards compatability and uplift in visuals/performance.
      Disclaimer: If I already owned a PS5, I wouldn't buy the PS5 Pro, just like I didn't buy the PS4 pro because I have an OG PS4.

      With a PC, you just brute force your way through the bad optimisations, I dropped consoles when they stopped making real mod chips for them, PS2 and OG XBOX if I remember, I much prefer to own my hardware and do what ever I like with it, versus this locked down eco system of consoles today, even if I have to pay twice as much for it, a powerful PC doesn't just play games, it has a crap ton of other uses, so much better investment in my opinion, I run a HTPC with Bazzite on there and it turns my TV into giant Steamdeck, very console like experience.

    Remember, you HAVE to compare this to the PS5 digital (which is $399), because the PS5 Pro does not have the disc drive. It's actually $780 if you want to compare it to the $499 disc version. Thus, it's $280-300 more expensive. It's not $200 more.

Imagine if a console didn't get 'bundled' with a controller! Look, I game on PC, Series X and PS5, but trying to mislead the PC community into believing that you can create a build close to the PS5 Pro for the same money is deluded. Yes, a PC is a far more capable platform for many things, but we have to accept that if you want access to the latest games on a budget, it simply cannot compete with consoles as a value proposition. Anyone trying to tell themselves otherwise is misguided. I would have been genuinely interested in a fair comparison, but this is ridiculous.

    Total Cost: $750.92
    However, I personally would upgrade most of the parts if I was building a PC in this region. I wouldn't class any of the parts as being great or reliable.
    This was just to show that you can get extremely close to the PS5 Pro's price, specs and performance. If at the expense of sacrificing some RT performance and build quality. In fact you probably could hit that $700, if you went even cheaper on lesser branded parts, looked around in sales, picked up a combo deal from MicroCenter or obviously bought some used parts.

      Option 1: Change it for Gigabyte B550 M K and pay $4 more. Yeah, it gives you PCIe 4.0, which allows you to eventually upgrade it with a faster SSD and faster RAM. However, you lose out on 2 Ram slots, it's onboard VRM's are terrible and it's general build quality is poor in comparison (Did breifly consider it).
      Option 2: Is to buy a low-end B550M motherboard by ASUS or MSI for around $20-$50 more, instead.
      However, that then defeats the entire purpose of trying to keep it as close to the price of the PS5 Pro, as possible. Also, a B450 motherboard is more than adequate for the rest of the components that I listed. It's also more than adequate to be used in a build that equals or beats a PS5 Pro. Sticking the parts that I used into a B550 motherboard instead, would barely make any impact at all to it's output performance. It would only open up a few more upgrade paths.
      I personally wouldn't cheap out on parts for a build that at equals or betters a PS5 Pro. However, it's $700 overall cost was a major constraint. So I went for as cheap as possible components, while still using well renown brands. In doing so, I also wavered away some possible upgrade paths. But let's face it, the PS5 Pro is still far more limited in that regard.

    Actually you don't gain performance using GDDR on a CPU because of they way it is tuned/optimized for graphics which creates higher latencies when used with a CPU .... That's why you never see GDDR RAM sold by computer memory vendors ..... Believe me if they could just slap GDDR chips on a UDIMM and gain higher performance they would have done that long ago
    Another thing you got wrong is the PS5 Pro has AI cores and will use AI upscaling ( PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) like DLSS or XeSS although we can't say yet if Sony's AI upscaler will be as good as DLSS .... Frankly I think this is actually AMD's AI upscaling co-developed with Sony and will eventually be FSR4 and AMD is simply holding it back from PC users so Sony would have first crack at it. The reason I believe that is the 7000 series GPUs have the same AI cores but they are not currently being used. I suspect they won't be used until the next gen AMD GPUs are released and then AMD will also release FSR4 which will be an AI upscaler like DLSS

    I really think that the mentality of "Consoles vs PCs" has always been such a strange mentality for people to have. They serve different purposes, despite having an overlap in both offering a way to play games. For anyone who just wants something that they can plug and play (aside from setting up an account, now, I guess) and expect it to just work, without the relative complexities of Windows/Mac/Linux on top of whatever games services for a PC, and whatever potential tech support issues they may find with getting controllers/peripherals working on different games/services, and any of the other potential oddities that can come with PC gaming.
    I love gaming on my PC, but I would never suggest PC gaming to the less tech savvy people in my life, because I know it would simply mean constant headaches for me for however long it took to get things working for them, and whenever anything went wrong. Meanwhile a console just works. Obviously on the other hand, if someone wants more than just a gaming machine, then they're already not going to be looking for a console.
    Realistically, I think the PS5 pro is mostly going to be a very low-yield product, that is going to serve as a way to make the cost of the base model PS5 look less daunting by comparison for parents going to the store to buy Christmas presents, or people looking to get a PS5 so they can play the exclusive games/play online with their friends. The PS4 pro sold around 15% of the total PS4 sales, and it was a much bigger (or at least more significant) jump over the base model, at a smaller price jump (obviously at a very different economic time in the world as well). So I'm guessing Sony is expecting the PS5 pro to sell _less_ relative to the base PS5, which is why they've priced it higher, both to bring it closer to their cost (or even sell it at a profit) and to - as I previously mentioned - have it be the "big intimidating price" next to the (relatively) lower priced base model that will even be bundled with a game (or multiple) this holiday season.

      It's a matter of pixel density that prevents most from using a larger display like a 65" 4k TV as a monitor. Sure they are much better now then in the past with latency. BUT I don't feel like sitting 10+ feet away from the display in order to not see the pixels. A 65" 4K TV is unusable when you are too close, and at a proper distance to prevent seeing the pixels, you're basically turning your 65" TV into a usable 27 - 34" display. SO for me I would rather just slap three 27" 1440p monitors in front of me. At the typical desk sitting distance (about 3 feet)a 27" 1440P monitor has enough pixel density to not distinguish the spaces between them. So as long as you are happy with sitting that far from your display, cool. Also If your TV was 4k and 40" or less then pixel density wouldn't be an issue, but then you would have to sit much closer, weight of a TV would be the main concern at that point, as most quality higher pixel dense TV weigh substantially more then a monitor. Since they tend to forgo the speakers, TV tuner and other things that add the weight to the TV.

    So just for fun I went on pcpartpicker to see what I could achieve for similar money to what a PS5 pro + stand costs in europe, while trying to match or beat the PS5 pro`s specs as much as I can. For this I made a few assumptions: the cpu is equivalent to a 3700x, the presumed gpu is essentially an rx6800, the ssd is pcie gen 4
    What I ended up with is as follows:
    -ryzen 5600x (costs basicly the same as the 3700x so is interchangable for the purposes of this excercise, I chose the 5600x because of better single core performance).
    -16gb ddr3200 ram, the cheapest ram I could (because AM4, and I needed to save budget where I could). Turns out it`s corsair ram though, which is good. Also, 30ish euro for 2x8gb feels really cheap, even if it`s DDR4
    -2tb patriot p400lite (was the cheapest pcie gen4 2tb SSD that showed up, don`t know how good it is)
    -some cheapo zalmo case, costs 40€, comes with some fans, good enough
    -the cheapest 80+ bronze 650w power supply that showed up. It`s an MSI PSU and has an actual rating, so I assume it won`t randomly explode. It`s 55€ btw, so not suspitiously cheap either
    -the GPU: I ended up chosing the 7700xt because it seems to perform slightly better than the rx6800 while also having newer features from AMD like their latest FSR and frame gen. You can substitute the 7700xt for a 4060ti (8gb), if you want to sacrifice a bit of raw power for better ray tracing, upscaling, and frame generation tech. A quick google search suggests the RTX4060ti might also perform similarly to the rx6800. Vram might be an issue for 4k, which is part of why I went for the AMD, but maybe with some extra sacrifices elsewhere a 16gb variant of the rtx4060ti might be more doable
    -the mobo was the cheapest one I could chose, once again. It`s a Gigabyte board, so I`m sure it`s fine.
    So, to be completely honest, the total cost according to pcpartpicker is 870€, or 50€ more than the PS5 pro and it`s stand, and you still need an os (windows can be had for 20 bucks from a site like instant gaming, and Linux is free) and either peripherals or a controler. Bear in mind that I had the site set to only pull prices off of amazon france (my local amazon, so to speak), meaning the same parts can maybe be had for less elsewhere, or other storefronts have cheaper alternatives. I also don`t think any of the parts I chose were on sale, meaning that there is room to spend less on these componants, or to get better hardware for similar money, especially with black friday coming up. Also keep in mind that simply going down to a 1tb drive will also get us back within budget. I also don`t feel at all bad for going over budget a bit, because we don`t benefit from bulk purchase pricing like a manufacturer like Sony does, and each individual componant costs us significantly more than it costs them. Also, it`s a pc, which means it can do so much more than just game, which in of itself adds extra value to the pc, that easily offsets the fact I went over budget, as well as the fact the console`s price includes a controller, which I would still have to buy, on top of the price of the system itself.
    With all that said, I am genuinly curious to know how well I did, and how well my config would hold up vs the PS5 pro. I`m personally pretty confidant it would be comperable in both visual fidelity and performance, but I guess I`m going to have to wait until benchmarks and hardware comparisons betwern the console and pc hardware drop

    You downgraded the gpu, and the ram, halved the size of the ssd, and didn't include any peripherals, when the console comes with a controller. You're just contributing to the noise.

      @@angrygnome4304 absolutely, and he wasn't using Digital Foundry's PS5 equivalent settings, or considering the fact that console games generally increase the quality to target 30, or 60 fps. Which is fine on a controller. I'm definitely much more sensitive to frame rate with a mouse.

    Hey Jayz team, it would be cool if you could run a part 2 showing how much improvements you get from upgraded RAM and GPU.
    The upgradability is a big selling point for the PC.

    I will never _not_ find it hilarious that console fanboys exaggerate the costs of PC while claiming their consoles are more than powerful enough for any and all games while pretending they don't get nickel and dimed for just existing by their console overlords, but then fall all over themselves when a "Pro" version comes out so they can buy the performance PC would have given them in the first place for a little more money.
    PC: The Pro version was always available.

      How is it exaggerated? Jay's video even shows it. He's not using the 3700X, has no bluetooth, has no wi-fi, has no Dualsense, has no OS, doesn't even have a mouse & keyboard. He made a ton of concessions & didn't even attempt to compare what a potential console version would perform like. Fact that you don't know or didn't make these observations show that you have no business laughing at anything.

      @spaghebbio More like $700 but keep exaggerating fanboy. And now you have to spend ANOTHER $700-$800 for the PS5 "Pro" to be faster too, while an $800 GPU will annihilate the Pro. Now you're over $1200+ invested. So you say you can sell your PS5? Yeah well I can sell my old GPU too. Keep proving me right console fanboys. Just cause you failed 3rd grade math doesn't mean all of us did.

    • @zodwraith5745
      @zodwraith5745 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @spaghebbio When the PS5 launched that was _before_ the crypto boom that made GPUs skyrocket. A $700 mediocre gaming PC was _VERY_ possible. That's something I can _easily_ disagree with because I've been building and selling PCs for over 25 years so you can't BS me.
      The $1200 point was because I knew that's exactly where you were gonna go because I constantly saw the same fanboy argument with the "pro" versions of PS4 and XB1. I made it _because_ it's a stupid point.
      You're free to play your console all you want, but don't try and BS me that it's better, because it's simply not. PC is faster, can do stupidly more tasks, and it's cheaper in the long run. The ONLY advantage console has is the low cost of entry and the console fanboys latch onto that because it's all they have, and even that's a lie because the second you account for online fees and higher game prices, console quickly passes PC in costs. Do _you_ only play 1-2 games a year and they're always offline?
      I insulted that idiot because he was spouting straight up bullshit pretending to know WTF he's talking about, but I notice you didn't mention one iota of that huh? Unless you also think a "Wi-Fi" motherboard doesn't come with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and the 3700 is faster than a 12600k.

    • @zodwraith5745
      @zodwraith5745 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @spaghebbio If you have to get into technicalities of exact dates to fall perfectly into the couple months PS5 was out before affordable GPUs launched then you also have to account for the fact PS5s were essentially _impossible_ to buy at anything close to MSRP, completely destroying your cherry picked date. You're cherry picking so hard you're starting to tear off branches.
      I'm sorry PCs are too complicated for you to set up. Maybe my 13yr old daughter can teach you.

    • @zodwraith5745
      @zodwraith5745 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @spaghebbio _You're_ the one that said PCs are harder to setup, not me. The fact you have a PC which I very well remembered only makes it that much _more_ pathetic that you're reaching that hard to desperately come up with something consoles are better at.
      You still missed the entire point that if you have to cherry pick dates where abc was easy to buy and xyz wasn't you've already lost the argument. It's disingenuous at best and an outright lie at worst. Traditionally, and much more significantly *_TODAY,_* I can build a PC for roughly the same cost as a PS5 Pricey Edition that will be every bit as good at gaming, but capable of a whole lot more while being cheaper down the road thanks to cheaper games and no online fees. Then you have to add SOME level of value to being able to repair it yourself, upgrade it for less than a new console, play your games the way YOU want to play via mods, and the bazillion other tasks a PC can do that a console can't. I highly doubt you do your taxes on your PoS5, and I sure as hell ain't running compile and compression workloads on a console.
      Console fanboys have to pretend only games exist, and they have to only compare to full new build PC prices because they can't upgrade their consoles. Once you're in the PC ecosystem it's cheaper to stay there with upgrades over time than buy an entire new console every gen. That's much more an argument against laptops, not PCs.
