Beautiful footage, as always! Nice description and names of the fish, better than reading about them in some 'fish' book. The Taylor family all look fit and fine in spite of the larder being slightly empty! Hope your shipped provisions turned out fine. All the best to the Taylor family! Jerry
Hi Jerry. Thanks for watching. It is always interesting to do some research about the fish we have seen to learn about what they eat or how they benefit the reef. We are looking forwards to uploading our coconut crab video.
Unfortunately, my dear Shawn, I'm afraid that will be a permanent installation at Fakarava now. It has NO residual value. Even in good condition this titanic would be 40-50k euros. Like THIS, it's not worth anything. If it had legacy insurance from its hey-day, the owner got twice that much for the wreck and has already forgotten he ever had a yacht. If this was bought recently by some budget cruisers, they probably only have third-party insurance. Judging by its condition, I doubt they have money to refloat it, not to mention repair it. I REALLY want to be wrong.
I am with you on that and really hope that we are both wrong. Solution would be for every country to charge each yacht a wreck removal insurance fee for the duration of their stay. Pay up front for the luxury. The downside is that suddenly this excludes a large portion of great sailors on a small budget.
@@SailingMokara And then you don't have 50 boats in every harbor learning to play an electric guitar at 6am!?!?!? And they don't ram into you because they only learned to anchor on an internet course!?!?!? OMG! What a tragedy that would be! There must be an international effort. But I can bet that damn boat that the people that would most benefit from it would be most vehemently opposed to it because it means fewer people buying fresh baguettes and overpriced produce. Even my brilliant mind cannot find a solution to that problem. Did you notice what flag that boat was flying?
I see that the supply ship's name is Cobia 3. Have you guys ever caught or seen any cobia (aka lemon fish and ling)? I caught many when I worked on offshore platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. Very tasty fish and hard to catch on a hook. We mostly speared them with a harpoon from the catwalk of the platform.
Hi. We haven't seen or caught a Cobia. It must be quite something fishing off the offshore platforms. It looks like a great fish to catch. How successful is harpooning from the catwalk? that must take some practice?I assume they are found in the Pacific hence the name of the ship.

Amazing reef exploration. Especially liked the colorful fish communities hanging around their coral neighborhoods. I wonder what the local fishermen are targeting from the dock. Best of luck to the unfortunate fellow who ran aground! The Crown of Thorns not welcome! Good to see the boys keeping up with school. And thank goodness, the supply ship returns.
Hi Frank. There seems to be a reasonable selection of fish around the dock. I don't however know what they typically catch. We have seen a couple of very big Tiger Sharks at the dock so there is really a mixed bag. The grounding of the yacht is bad news and I hope that it is off the reef now. We have seen quite a few yachts on the reef whilst sailing and have been involved in getting yachts off the reef in Panama and thankfully still floating. We have watched a few videos of the Crown of Thorns and it is surprising how much damage they can cause if there are too many. Despite the damage they do, they are impressive. We were impressed with the locals in Tahiti setting up a shopping service in Tahiti that they would then put on the ship for you to Fakarava for you to collect. Just send them your shopping list and they send you the bill once everything is purchased and on the ship. It worked very well and it meant that we didn't have to buy too much of the stock from the shop this time.

That was highly annoying and is a common problem with the Honda engine covers. Doesn't happen with Yamaha as much. Not 100% sure about the cause though I think it is from manually tilting the engine up. I do wish we had a cover on that as well as the whole tender.
