    8:16 What a lovely picture of family day out! Daddy wandering around mumbling into the camera, Mom tying knots on hammocks, youngest child swings an axe in the background. The only thing missing is the oldest boy walking out of the forest dragging a dead shark behind him with a blood trail.

      Thank you for watching as always. Yes, a like or comment is easily forgotten. We appreciate all of them though. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all of us.

    2:55 Should sell this scene to Spielberg. Sharks slowly swimming towards an unsuspecting tourist who's nonchalantly speaking into his go-pro. Blood bath ensues. Do you have huge family jewels to throw overboard in the last scene? AND a door for Shawn to float on?

    Your videos are wonderful! Fun to watch a family just living (sailing) life. Quite neat the way y'all adapt, such as the driftwood Christmas tree. Just makes me smile. Wife and I never spent more than 2 weeks liveaboard at a time on our sailboat, but we were in the Great Lakes. Had we been amongst atolls, we might just still be there years later. Thanks, and best to the Taylors!

      Hi Jerry. I hope you are well. I must give Claire full credit for the tree. Great idea and nice to have a small family project onboard that involves power tools and epoxy. It must be amazing sailing in the Great Lakes. What boat did you have? I assume it was a mono hull but I could be wrong. The Tuamotus are very hard to leave. Sadly over the next few episodes we have to do just that. One more trip back to Fakarava then we have great videos of amazing places. Thanks for watching

      @@SailingMokara Sorry I missed your reply timely. Umm, Great Lakes sailing, compared to what we've seen on your videos?... aw, come on! But we had fun. On home port of Lake Erie, we had a 25' cruiser power boat with outdrive and V8 power, but always seemed to be idling along at hull speed. Idea! Sold that boat, bought a 25' Lancer (project, as usual) as our sailing experiment (stubby little 'shoal keel' absolutely could NOT go upwind, but we sure could throw a fast tack!). One year later we traded up to a Pearson 30, which we really loved for 8 years. Yes, mono-hulls... cats seemed somewhat 'wrong' at the time. Finally realizing that we were paying dock and winter storage fees 12 months a year, and working full-time, we started chartering, let someone else maintain/store, etc. And that allowed us to charter in Florida. Biggest charter we did was 38' Irwin center cockpit, 9' daggerboard, could really head upwind! Now living full time in FL, we've had several power boats, again because it got us on the water fast; evening dinner floating 10-15 miles out in the Gulf was easy! Retired now, had fun when we were 'spritely', sort of "been there, done that"! Best!

    A silvery Christmas morning (chimes might be appropriate?), with glassy clear waters. "No need to snorkel on a day like this"-- yes! Wow to the pretty corals. The islands you traverse are exquisitely lovely. At least, until you find the trash washed ashore-- a shame. Crayfish hunting is interesting, better luck next time.

      Hi Frank. We all agree that this was one of the most perfect days we have had at that point. It is so nice to paddle board and watch the marine life below going about their business around us. The Nurse Sharks seemed to make this Atoll their home. We. wish we had seen baby turtles, that would have been amazing. Can't complain though as we are very lucky to have been here. We had great fun doing the Crayfish hunt. Dylan and I had a busy day and got back to the boat had dinner and then neither of us felt like going out. We decided to leave it up to the flip of a coin to make the decision to go or not. Heads we go and Tails we stay, Heads came up so off we went and despite not catching anything we loved the adventure.

    11:39 It's always SO much fun to see the mentality of sailers (sailors?) shift. I doubt your boys have ever been farther than 500 meters from Mom before this journey began. 🙂 Now they want to go fishing to the other side of an island in shark infested waters - SURE, kids, just be home for dinner... unless you find something to eat in the jungle. AND JUST IMAGINE how many police cars with how many NSPCC agents would come running if a boy in Newcastle or Chichester said something like "I prefer the axe".

      Ha Ha... I totally agree with you. It felt strange giving Nathan an Axe and Machete for his birthday. I we did that whilst living in the U.K. I think I would be serving a prison sentence.

    Plastic on the Pacific Islands is SO unfair. At least in the Caribbean they generate the plastic they are polluted with. In the Pacific, especially Polynesia, plastic comes from all those "Asian tigers" and ends up on beautiful islands.

    • @SailingMokara
      @SailingMokara  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Way too much plastic for such a small population to deal with. It is not as bad as San Blas in Panama though. They have amazing islands in San Blas but we would find plastic bottles 3 or 4 deep in the sand there. We did however manage to do some great beach clean ups.

  • @Maloy7800
    @Maloy7800 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    15:52 And are you going to tell that story on EVERY island you visit? The islanders are clever people. They fish them out and put them on trees so they are not washed by waves or tides (NOT Xmas decorations!!!). When they needs them again, they pick them up and reuse them. They are also good for floating your anchor chain. I can lipsynch to that!
    And by the way you say it's the NEXT best thing to use. What's the best thing? Quroc inflatable boards?

    • @SailingMokara

      The one Claire is in is made for a family of 4. Technically we over catered but none of us enjoy sharing a hammock in these hot climates.
